The presentation of this board compared to the CIY X77 is night and day. This looks like a great intro into the more premium custom keyboard experience. CIY should be on more people's radar and up there with the likes of Akko and Keychron and GMMK.
I agree! Building this board is such a premium experience for a budget board! I really like the output of my mods on it as well. Great review!
Oddly enough, I have had great experiences with my newer Keychron screw in stabs, even stock. The V1 I got had such good stock stabs I didn't even bother tuning them at all. No ticking, very smooth, and actually well balanced wires. That being said, the CIY stabs are also pretty solid, just take the time to ensure the wires are pretty balanced and there are no sharp burrs on the ends, and they are serviceable for sure.
This sounds great for those of us wanting to dabble in a full custom keyboard build. May try this one someday.
One negative about this board is that the case screw holes are not metal reenforced, so you're screwing into plastic. This is fine for first assembly, but you might not want to open it up repeatedly as it could cause those holes to get stripped out.
Absolutely right, I definitely should have mentioned this!
@@ConsumerTechReview AKKO lavenders will fit to?
@@Whip001 yes they will fit
@@vicenarycave awesome ty :D
this board is mad value... what could anyone ask for more at this price...
Was literally just looking at this to build a budget board this video coming in clutch!
Do it! It's so cheap and it looks exactly like a KBD 67 lite. I got a green one with super clean black on white keycaps It looks so good!
this keyboard ran me around 80 bucks including shipping to the western United States, and completely stock with the included dampening plus some l+f gat yellows sounded really thin, but after picking up some polyfill, foam, thicker gaskets, and tape, it sounded very good. I wouldn't recommend this for someone who would rather just plug and play, and the price certainly got up past things like the v1 and mk870 due to the extra things I had to buy, but if you want to put in the effort this board is incredible. the v1 is certainly a better buy if you just want to throw some switches on there and go with it, but the gas67 wins in many other areas. the included stabs were great, the case looks cool, and the unboxing was great too.
however, the buying experience was an issue for me. I had to re-order it 3 times for it to just show up approximately 2 months after I initially ordered it. furthermore, the lower cost of included good stabilizers was nullified by the fact that I couldn't re-use my cherry keycaps from previous builds on it. I wouldn't say it's near-perfect by any means, but almost no board at this price point can either. if this was south-facing, and available through more vendors, then this is a top tier board.
omggg sick! I might buy this keyboard it the future
Always the best vids of the day come from CTR
I'm tempted to buy this keyboard now, damn, for that price point, quite a steal.
Great vid… love the board!
great content man. keep it up
I literally think that God has listened to my prayers because I commented on one of your videos about this board and here it is lmao great video as usual!!
YES FINALLY
im waiting for that board review
i laugh so hard when he mention "why would you buy (insert board name)"
i gotta get this board, PE only + tape mod em and throw kailh box jade on that with cherry profile keycaps (hopefully the jade box have no interference issue on this board with cherry profile)
@@kiboshinji1203 for QMK, which is very much missing on that one
you almost said out my comment on your V1 video out loud :V
Thanks for the review though. Been eyeing on this kit for a while. now I can close in on the purchase decision 👌🏼
Great vid!
Amazing! Actually eagered to buy it 😄 I actually just bought the Akko 5075s barebone, which you should also check out! Its also a 50-60€ board, and comes with alot of the same offerings! 🙃
I wanna get into gasket mounted keyboards for a while. this might be it.
I picked it up on Ali yesterday. Much better offer than the skylong kbds.
Oh my god! It's an incredible keyboard and the price... I just wish it was 70 or 75%, then it's an instant buy for me
Watching this again make me excited on what if I won the give away
most long pole stem switches will not have interference with cherry profile caps like one that comes to mind is the Tecsee ruby and sapphire switches just to name a couple
my jaw literally droped on the stab sound test
me too. im so tempted to order these now i think i might, theyre on sale for me for $65 CAD
I don't understand why so many reviewers consider north facing LEDs a bad point... With so many keycap and switch options it should be just a minor consideration.
yes,i am using ciy67 right now and it is a good keyboard
well done, very nice
currently using it today as of watching your vid
Which one do you think will be better when it comes to acoustics a
nd typing feel between the Gas67 and the RK84 when the same mods are done.?
( The mods being the same ones you did to the Gas67 in this video)
I think should try better stabs Idk because of the stabs or the PCB but when screwed in tightly the stabs can be err slightly rotated towards the right (screwing direction, clockwise), causing mismatch between stabs and switch -> scratchy/mushy. The included stab pads are also bad because it will make the PCB too thick for the stab clip to properly stay, thus when screwed tightly the clip side will be lifted up.
If you want to use cherry profile keycaps, you need some switches with a shorter travel, like akko radiant reds, anything under 4mm of total travel
Well isn't your comment timely. I ordered Skyloong Glacier Silvers an hour ago together with the board, and I was worried if I should or not order Cherry keycaps which I fell in love with on ali express. I'm guessing it should be fine right?
@@TheAlixSH yep,all good
If you like budget gasket keyboards, there’s a 80% keyboard called the James donkey A3 Gasket keyboard Kit you should check out!
Looks nice
I bought this board without doing any research on switches and the north facing leds, will Akko jelly blacks have interference?
btw are the akko keycaps good for gaming? ive been wanting to get them but im not sure if it suits my needs.
Did you just lube the stabilizers or did you preform any mods to them?
thank you ctr for listeing to me
This looks insane!! I wish I was this confident in building or modding keyboards but I have zero experience
Give it a try with something cheaper, it's a lot easier than you think!
I ordered this keyboard to be my first build and it arrived as defective, it would not turn on :/
is there any software for this board and if the key is remapped is it will works too with other computers?
finally a review
I LOVE YOU!
I want to buy some Pudding Keycaps for my Akko 3068. But which should I buy?
Are the Ajazz peach you used here thockier than the Akko jelly black?
How would you say this board's RGB compares with the Redragon Fizz?
Do you know the shortcut of how to change the Profiles on this keybaord ?
can you compare this to the akko acr 75 and is this kit more deep sounding than the akko
hey dude my gas67 lights up but doesnt work any tips? thanks
One thing I which really frustrates me a lot is all the mods I tried to put in switches into the keyboard and some of of the pins broke cus it’s thick so recommend (my opinion) not take out the switches and just leave it be
You should check out the feker alice 80! For $107 you get:
- a knob
- tri-mode connectivity
- gasket mounted
- south-facing LEDs
- Dye-sub PBT keycaps
- Good pre-lubed switches
WOW!
Built this board with almost identical mods 2 days ago. Super thocky though I'm running akko OEM keycaps.
The reason why yoursdoesn't have a TON of flex is because u used the silicone dampener if you dont it would be little more flexible
bro im in europe and youre the only one giving international links!!!!
Off-topic but there is a budget mouse i would honestly like to see you review, I'm not sure if its available in your area. It's the Tecware Pulse Elite.
Man this is mad... I'm soooo tempted to get this as my first custom built keyboard.... it sounds absolutely insane! Edit: and suggestions for more budget key caps that would work? Or atleast a manufacturer? 😊
xiami and kbdfans
@@akbarnanda4874 thank you 😊
You have to get long pole switches if your going with cherry profile keycaps
@@bajafishtaco that makes sense, thank you 😊 I've been watching custom keyboard builds for ages, but still getting my head around the compatibility 😊
@@bajafishtaco not really, gateron new mold didnt have any interference for north facing pcb with cherry profile keycaps
what deskmat brand is that bro, it looks fire
I need this in 75% form dang it.
Any suggestions on budget wireless with knobs? Was hoping for a 65% (w/ arrow keys right?) Or higher. I currently have an RK84 but I need the knob for lowering music sound when my boss is walking towards my desk.
try looking at the LK67
Hey pls review Redragon Brahma K586!! It's like a corsair k95 but waayyyyyy cheaper and a bit worse, i want to know what you think about it
Hello!! Does Zefal bike pro lube work on switches?
Bro the gasket should be on the case not on the plate and i also did the mistake the first time , if correctly install very flexible
could you do a review on the Akko 5075B board please
Just curious, what word does it describe with those sound?
Are box jade compatible with reddragon fizz??
updated top 5 budget mkb!
Are you gonna make a review of Akko pc75v2?
What is the size of pcb? 1.2 or 1.6?
Is there a case replacement for this board?
Wow .. this might be a good beginners DIY keyboard.. maybe..
but I still need the F1-F12.. so I'll go with the CIY tester 84..
this could be a good alternative for the CIY tester 68 if you want wired connection.
Good vid 👍👍
Their X77 is a great TKL as well.
@@johnperish thanks for the info man.. sadly the x77 doesn't sell in my asian country lol..
although we have a lot of OEM TKL brands like Fantech, DA meca, redragon, Sades, Rexus. tecware etc..
they're also quite good for the budget with a bit of mod.
I don't think you were supposed to put pe foam on the PCB. That white mat that you put before the pe foam is supposed to act like pe foam but you basically just doubled it.
Now im using gas67 for typing
all the keyboard from ciy is cheap but it is helpful for usage
the gas67 in china is only 199yuan(about 28$) "not for sale"
That just is soo good i think i shouldve spent my money on that and not akko switches and redragon k530
The day aliexpress boards finally come with via/qmk instead of some shady proprietary software is the day i quit high end customs
One minor notice is that the scew driver for this one is kinda suck and will destroy the screw, so use a better one if you don't want to ruin that beautiful case
At this price point, it’s probably worth it to try out Ali Express huh? I’ve been skeptical about that site but this feels like a no brainer for a DIY kit with what you get. Solid review CTR 🤙
No problems with my order. Came in 2.5 weeks and the build was SO fun. Great quality. Great customer service, great tracking system. Aliexpress is good in my book
@@Spacebarf thanks for the input! Might have to pick this up for my next client build
For aliexpress as long as you get it from a reputable seller is fine. It’s good he linked the one he used
i had my reservations with ali express at the start myself but after having bought a lot of stuff from there from numerous sellers, ive never had a single issue just don't expect amazon levels of shipping time
Please review the new RkG68 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Please do try to review the gmk67 by zouya this is kinda new to the market
How is this compared to the akko 5075s
Just got one, i have done few custom KBs in the past inc making my own Franken switches but I have never tried a gasket one. It was this or the GMMk Pro, I like the look of the GMMK and with white keycaps it makes it look so upmarket. This will probably be a fun build for the spare PC.
LETS GOOOO
is it ok with xda profile?
VIDEO IDEA: best switches and keycap sets for tecwear phantom 87
WOW 👍👍👍👍👍 😻😻😻😻😻
It has anti Ghosting?
Are the switches factory hand-lubed or did you hand-lube them youerself?
He said in the video they are not pre lubed
Are the stabilizers good enough or should I get asceny stabs too?
I think should try better stabs Idk because of the stabs or the PCB but when screwed in tightly the stabs can be err slightly rotated towards the right (screwing direction, clockwise), causing mismatch between stabs and switch -> scratchy/mushy. The included stab pads are also bad because it will make the PCB too thick for the stab clip to properly stay, thus when screwed tightly the clip side will be lifted up.
Got it and wow, 1 I hate bouncy boards it seems, feels really cheap, and 2 who thought it was a good idea to screw butter screws into plastic to close the case? I don't think there's actually any value in this, even if I wish QMK/VIA budget kits makers take note of the great pcb/plate/silicon/dampening combo which itself is cool. But it needs a better case.
It's probably the gaskets. I've had good experiences with less flexibility gaskets
Hmm, it's 61€ for EU and has no qmk, vs a bm65rgb that has less good stuff but qmk for 75€. Looks like great value but I'll pass until south facing LEDs + qmk (keychron does it but I'm not looking for more large cases that protude out of caps so much)
As someone who has used both, BM65 is definitely a worse value. I am a big user of VIA/QMK, and it weights pretty heavily on my choices with boards, but the BM PCBs are known to have fairly inconsistent QC and the case is just insanely inferior here. THat being said, the best/cheapest way to get the GAS is through importing through TaoBao, but not everyone is going to want to do that.
@@pyrobunny_mdpl ok thanks for the input. Searching a bit more I found it for 53€ on AE... At that price I just had to get one tbh, what can go wrong heh
can u please mod the ep 84
what switches fit to this keyboard?
can outemo switches fit in this kit.
Yes
Hey. Please mod Redragon K599
BRUH I LITERALLY JUST GOT MY 3068B 😭 don’t tell me this is a better board
Def better
But dont get me wrong 3068B is great as well
3068b will have better build quaity and it comes with nice keycaps from the jump, the gas67 is more for somebody that really wants to tinker a lot to make it good, your board is good right out of the box
Me: Guess the price of the keyboard?
You: 200
Me: No 80
Tecware veil mods plz
tecware weil 80 when ?
Can i buy it off you for $70?
somehow i recognize those colors lol
Looks like a plastic version of Gingko65 by Wuquestudio....
Mechanical or Optical? No one ever seems to mention that
Optical isn't very popular so unless they mention it, it's almost certainly mechanical. You can also tell by looking up the switches that somebody uses. If they're mechanical, then that's your answer.
Worked out for the best...cherry profile keycaps suuuuuuck
