Shitty dysfunctional broken game launches and user experiences should never be considered the acceptable norm. The problem is, gamers have routinely allowed game developers to get away with overcharging for games that are effectively in a beta development stage at best when they are released to the public. If you want to call it a beta launch, then I could see gamers excepting that as a standard, some things will not work correctly, user experiences will be buggy or intermittent etc. But when you market your game as being ready for launch to the public, it should work almost flawlessly and seamlessly. I bought the aviator edition which is a $200 USD purchase. I spent well over an hour yesterday in a queue that had no method to exit before the game would even begin to load because of the saturated servers. Then, when the game finally did start to load, it got about a third of the way through, which took another 20 minutes, before kicking me from the server and giving me a server error. This is completely unacceptable when you have paid $200 for a product it should work perfectly.
Yep...ask anyone old enough (like me) that went from FS 5.1 to FS FOR WINDOWS 95 all those decades ago. Hell...it was so horrendously bad with the pausing and studdering I went back to the DOS based FS 5.1 until FS98 came out three years later. Same ole' same ole'. I learned my lesson about these "new and improved" versions almost 30 years ago.
It should work perfectly not matter the price, the game is advertised as working. So people who buy the game in a $10 sale in 5 years time should be able to play the game straight away. So price is not the issue its crappy developers pulling another fast one.
@@edwardhalverson6343You are right. This is the Cloud service gaming they tried selling when they did Crackdown 3 multiplayer. It's like when you try to play the world is just buffering and the 11gb is just the physics and the planes.

Hello, I am a software developer with one of the leading third-party companies that create add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Unfortunately, during yesterday's launch, everything that could go wrong did. It was a huge disappointment, as I was unable to debug the products now available in the simulator. Instead, I spent 10 hours stuck on a grey loading screen. I hope to see some improvements when I launch the simulator today; I'm just about to boot it up. I enjoyed this video - keep up the great work!

I was expecting a rough launch, but this is beyond broken. Especially now that they have a lot of experience with flights sims and massive server infrastructures.
I don't understand why they insist on releasing it worldwide at the same time. Why not release it at different times in different time zones? I know there would be people who would subvert the system, but it seems like it would at least help smooth out some of the overload issues.
This would have made sense or stagger the PC and console launch even just for a few days, there would have been a lot of people who log on once and never again anyway with most things at least those people would not all have been trying to get on as the same time as people who will play the hell out of this, also though lets not get our panties in too much of a twist give it a couple of days and the numbers will drop anyway, that is what I am going to do
I think the game just sucks. Let's see if it even works next week, no let's try next year. I think the online only is the issue here and now. Too many things buffer.

Spot on fellah. I worked in IT for 42 years and been working with computers since the Sinclair ZX81. The problem is the fantastic development in game/simulation fidelity has not been matched by the 'make sure it works' fidelity! Thank you for this emminantly sensible video!
This ‘we didn’t anticipate the amount of users’ is nonsense. They had the exact figures by sales. It just doesn’t work and they’re pretending it’s demand. Why are people missing content who actually got on.

No disrespect to you GM because I agree with what you say... but it feels like video could be made back in 2014 This (the situation, not the video) is literally the definition of insanity... we, as gamers, are doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Preorder (or buy or install on release date) and then complain about the state of the release. Perhaps it's time to change that 'thing' and look at our own purchase decisions? How many time did we pull the 'this is unacceptable and disrespectful' string? Come on. At this point we are partially causing this. We should all know the risks of release date version by now.
I always check the reviews day 1. I’m fine with buying on day one if the reviews are positive. otherwise I’ll just wait until the game is fixed (if ever).
Personally I have already done this a few years back I finally put my foot down. One of my favorite games of all time Kerbal Space Program was releasing a sequel KSP 2 but a different developer and I knew it was going to be bad. The game turned out exactly as I expected because I knew the people involved where not up to the task. I simply do not purchase games without extensive research.
First - Load Bar Lovers is a great band name. Second - everything you said in the first 2 minutes was comedy gold and yet also absolutely bang on. Third - I feel sorry for the poor mid-level management /upcoming talent that delivered what will inevitably be the subject of a billion nostalgia videos 15 years hence but right now are more accursed than the French in a Blackadder Special. Despite all the drama I did manage to load a flight tonight. It was after 2 crashes, and later crashed again, so all points made in this video are valid. But... also. Maybe - just maybe - there is so much beauty here - and so many beautiful brains behind it - I'm willing to forgive the fact they didn't have a worldwide launch for 7 billion people absolutely perfect from the start. I know it's their job, I know we pay good money, I know we deserve better... but still. That first flight was so spectacularly beautiful I forgot to complain about framerate and just enjoyed a sunrise soaring above the magnificently broken ridges of Seceda in the Dolomites. Still those low paid customer service types can expect a strongly worded letter in the morning, as the game crashed before I did. How Awful.
I've managed to get the game to sort of boot a couple of times and I'm kind of flabbergasted that it seems that just about everything requires permission from the server if not outright requiring data be pulled down remotely. Sometimes only half the menus load in, I can only see a couple of planes etc. Why would they do this? It seems so needlessly wasteful.
They said they didn't realise how excited people were and underestimated the load, how is that possible they know how many they sold and they know how many people from gamepass used the last game
Need to add another comment: This video absolutely reflects my opinion. Thank you!! Oh man, oh man, oh man… They've got quite a bit of work ahead of them. I have to say, MSFS2020 also spent maaaaany hours downloading on my end before I could even start flying. Now I’ve taken a flight around my 'home airport' with muddy graphics but some level of recognition. It has potential, but for it to run smoothly... well, I’m curious to see. Setting up the HOTAS was more comfortable than in MSFS2020, but still pretty awful. Maybe it’s just a matter of getting used to it. The Tobii head tracker doesn’t work yet… only in combination with Open Tracker. Well, at least that works. But in the main menu, I have to turn it off again, or the Earth spins like crazy 🤣 - it keeps zooming past the frame. All in all... terrible. Early access at best. They really botched this release… and badly.
Day 2 and I’m still grounded. Stuck at 97% loading. Yesterday maybe excusable with launch hype. Today nope. This is more than teething issues and cache. Rather than launch a polished product, this is beta testing with the customers. Released too early imo. But saying that how can they go from the tech alpha to this mess? Btw I meant to say good on you GM for speaking out. Needs more people to do this.
I bought the premium Deluxe version but have no idea how to get the content installed through the useless UI. A real Sh!t show by MSFS 2024. It really is a sign of the times sadly.
The problem is that as computers have been made more capable this increase in capability has allowed developers to become less skilled. Way back in the beginning of the World Wide Web I was one of those people who created websites, we used to optimise each page to download at an unacceptable speed over a 300 baud or 1200/75 baud connection. (look them up if you don't know) but now that 'everybody' has gigabit fibre (lol?!) this optimisation is not done. We need to get back to where we used to actually test download speeds in real world environments........ Also a damn Windows Store game which has its own downloader? wtf? stop re-writing the loader....... a £200 game had better 'just work' at launch date or expect to get clobbered by UK Trading standards........ ALSO.... Kids today? huh? Get off my lawn? etc........
Similar here, the thing is you can tell even now when a website is well optimised. It's just snappier, elements render correctly and in an appropriate order, and you don't get ads plastered over every single pixel of your screen. Many people are using things like Squarespace or Wix and the sites they produce are horrendously optimised for the end-user.
Theres someone streaming this live right now and the people in his chat aren't even talking about the loading as if the games working well. I even commented in the stream and got ignored. I can load it but not get into any game.

Got in this morning. Can’t make an avatar and can’t load past career intro video. Can’t select any activities. The only button that works is Quit to Desktop!
Well, at least you have something to download. Those who bought the Limited Edition and paid more than $300 to receive the game on the day 1 have not even received the tracking code from the post office. And if paying an average of $40 per shipment is not enough, those who received the tracking label are receiving the cheapest possible shipping, around $12 to $15.
You're bang on and It's still broken now at 1pm UK time - I did manage to get into the game just now after a 15 minute load, but then it crashed to desktop at the character creation screen (Aviator edition). Edit: And tried again, doing the exact same thing, crashing to desktop when you click on the avatar. :/
Just put in for my Aviators edition refund. Didn’t even try to download. When this hot mess settles down maybe in a few months will purchase. Word is it’s so buggy even if you manage to stream it’s a disaster.
I saw the announcement of your FS release stream 2 days ago and I knew at that point this is just going to be loading screen. Does the ingame download still max out graphics card like it used to?
Having worked with MS for a very long time I can tell you that a poor tech guy will have told them all about the issues but management will not have fully understood the technicalities and risk and has then insisted on ploughing on regardless of any problems just to meet arbitrary deadlines. It's been like this for years, they never learn.
Thank you for your honest opinion. I’m totally fine with what happened yesterday. Here is the most important thing: They decided to format everything in the game and now you have to do full time job to configure every button in the keyboard every single stuff in the other devices you have. Here’s another: I’m from KSA. I did a flight from Jeddah to Riyadh just to enjoy the new A330 (the one that failed to be for human use in 2020) you know what? Night textures and lighting was a disaster, a few clouds in the horizon was so cartoonish, airport taxi lights were visible from a long distance. Map tiles were low quality. Also, do I have to remove covers and check everything outside for an airplane fly in a virtual sky carrying ghost passengers? I mean c’mon get me up to the sky and let me enjoy the game. I guess I’ll stick with 2020 until they did something better than simbrief, navigraph, gsx, and beyondATC. Future is supposed to be easier, more improved, more enjoyable. This new stuff not! Fancier for Xboxers that’s it. Sorry for the negativity
I was LITERALLY about to buy the premium deluxe package when i turned your stream on and saw what was happening. Thanks for rescuing me! haha I'll wait until they get their chickens together before i buy it 🤔
This is the worst release I've ever seen. After three hours of loading, I finally managed to start a flight. When the airplane finally spawned, the pilot was outside of it sitting in the air five meters above the plane. There were no trees, just green cubes everywhere and I couldn't even take off, the plane was uncontrollable. It swerved to the left and crashed into a building.
I agree with every word that you’ve said there. 2020 was terrible for the whole download fiasco. And 2024, as you say, neither really playable offline in any meaningful way, and the online mode is (currently) unplayable. It’s a mess. And a foreseeable one at that. Especially for a company the size of Microsoft, and with the vast resources that they have. They should’ve anticipated this WAY ahead of time. Give me a Megadrive, a cartridge and no internet. Cheers!
12:35 Every time I said a downloadable base map and offline mode are essential for a flight sim, I get these apologists in the replies saying "but it will look ugly". I wish I could send this part to them.
Pretty much thats one of the things that really annoys me working in IT, managers are too scared to inform people of problems. They would rather try avoid it. Well its going to be uncovered soon enough when people cant do the things they trying to do. Why not manage their expectations properly which makes people far more understanding and less angry?
@@BobberbroozerYeah when I finally got into career mode I was melted into floor of plane unable to move while being told to press lb+B to enter plane which didn’t work 😂
Thank you for voicing this! I m gradually getting a little bit further each time I close and restart, but still haven't actually got into an aircraft. I get the map and I can choose an airport etc but then I can't start a flight - the option is greyed out. When I choose a departure from in the air though, the Start Flight bar lights up, but when I click on it the game crashes. Absolutely atrocious.
And when I go to the Training Activity, I can't start that as apparently I haven't selected an aircraft. There is no option to select an aircraft. It's truly awful at the moment.
This was always going to happen even if they let people download the game early. Because tens of millions of people still would’ve attempted to access the servers at the same time they don’t build their infrastructure for the day one demand they build their infrastructure long-term for what they think. The average player count is going to be and day one is never gonna be average
That is not the issue here. MFS2023 base game is like 150gb and up to 400gb. with add-ons. And on top of that the map is streamed online. MFS2024 installation is only 11gb. This means that each time the game is opened, it has to be downloaded from scratch.
I simply cannot STAND that they tried to make this into an Xbox "game". That single decision, instead of having two separate releases, caused many many more issues than ever should've occurred and is another problem that is going to plague this forever unless they finally decide to have two separate releases.
Very sensible take, GMV. Getting past the load and hanging on 'Customize Identity'. (sigh). 18 hours and counting... The 'we didn't expect people would want to use the sim' excuse is not washing for me...
I don't agree GM ... it's one of the best games ever. You're lifestream yesterday was the best ever... talk about multi-player... hours of gameplay guaranteed 😂😅
I have to say i disagree with what most had problems with. In my case downloading a lot of files world updates etc. regurlary was my biggest issue with 2020. But i agree they should make the online distinguishing more clearly.
I found on new releases of anything that waiting a while before jumping in helps me maintain a normal blood pressure. 2020 wasn’t worth having in the beginning. It wasn’t as bad as what I’m hearing about 2024, but by waiting I got into 2020 when it was working well.
This is why I always, always wait to get my hands on a brand new product to see how it plays out. Whether it be a game, CPU, GPU, phone, camera, whatever. In this time and age where profit comes before everything, bugs are bound to come out at launch no matter which company is behind it.
Hello I will tell you what is unacceptable the fact that you did not mention once about the deer 😂.Was funny watching your live stream tho.Have a great day and all the best to you and your family.
Sounds like a dumb thing to do, when obviously the servers were overloaded, did you seriously have nothing else to do, you could not possibly have waited a few days for server load to dissipate.
@@Valhura77 well I didn't need to just sit there watching a loading screen lol I alt tabbed played call of duty and watched videos till one time after alt tabbing to see if I was in, I was!
Spot on take. I have 30+ hours logged in Steam for MSFS, and maybe 30 minutes of flight time. They simply don't care about making it playable for a casual user. Unless you have time to stay on top of the required updates you are out of luck. Looks like this is more of the same.
In theory, and I stress the in theory part, if they sort their stuff out then this move will mean you don’t need to download updates anywhere near as often as the sim gets updated on the server and streamed to you. Clearly at the moment it’s a complete travesty however.

Windows it terrible in 2024. You can have a 16 processor pc and it still wont prioritise user input and be waiting for keystrokes to register. Ha ha ha.
I've been on the MSFS 2024 twice this morning. Each time only took 3 minutes to get me to the main menu, which is actually better than my MSFS 2020. I'm in rural Arizona, only 120 mbps download speed, have the Aviator edition for PC and all my planes are in my library including my previous MSFS 2020 purchases. Admittedly, yesterday was kind of a struggle, but I did play the sim 4 different times. Hoping that all those experiencing the delays will have a 3 minute load time very soon.
TOTALLY agree with you about the downloading issues and the sizes, etc. THIS is all because of Xbox integration. Guaranteed. And I hate it. AND ESPECIALLY agree about the apologists. They need to take a long walk off a short pier...into shark infested water. As someone who prepaid well over $100 USD for the "Aviator" version, I totally expected SOMETHING to be playable yesterday. It was not.
I'm still stuck on the IRL loading... Waiting for my Collector's Aviator boxed Edition to be 'loaded' onto an IRL vehicle to start it's journey to me from a warehouse somewhere in the world. Asobo nailed it as I knew they would after FS2020 - its 2 for 2 incompetent launches, 4 years apart as well. That's some level of commitment to fubar, even in the games industry. All snipes and jokes aside, I think most of us around for FS2020 knew this was going to be another dumpster fire of a launch again as Asobo just don't have the chops for this kind of a project. As a fellow Brit yes, everything's better with tea! But even a bangin' cup of Yorkshire can't save this launch 😕
It started really bad with not Being able to play for hours on end. But, i have to say once you get in, the game is amazing. From the sound of the planes engines to the new lighting in the sim. Totally immersed now. They did such an amazing job
I only opened MSFS 2020 sparingly and eventually un-installed specifically due to the update/file verification system. I loved the sim once I could get in, but if I wanted to hop in on Saturday with friends, we all had to open it on Friday night and let the sim update/verify files so we were able to actually play on Saturday. And God forbid that an update got pushed that night after we did that whole thing. We'd just end up playing something else the next day instead of wasting the day updating and verifying again.
30% is the expected failure of any GaaS. 50% is thenfristration of error handling not being sufficient enough to tell users what's happening and failing to set expectations. If I were told the wait was two hours or more l, Id have soent my valuable free time doing something else.
A successful launch for Microsoft, they'll have made a fortune from all those lovely pre-orders. Delivering a polished and ready product is clearly secondary. This won't be the last time I offer this advice... "NEVER pre-order", it usually goes badly and it removes the developer's hunger to produce high quality and reliable games.
The nicest thing I can say about the game launch is it's a mammoth cluster...k. I left mine going overnight and it was done when I got up. Set up a flight from London City in the Cessna 172 and it crashed on the runway......twice. Set up another one from near Lake Tahoe in America, same plane. Successfully did a circuit and landed. Back to London City......took off, just got to the dome and ctd....... It's shockingly bad....
Ah, wouldn't be a GM video without some existential dread at the end :D 100% agree on all your points as well, especially that cinema analogy. Apologist fanboys are the worst.
From what I've seen of the interface, controller setup and half my peripherals not working I actually prefer MSFS 2020 and will be sticking with it. I bet Austin Meyer and the gang over at X Plane are having a good laugh.
I'm not apologising for their behaviour, it's pathetic and I've not and will not pre-order a game ever again. I'd go stronger than that if I could. However, at the same time, we all know this too, so expecting any game to work at even 50% around launch is naive and the sooner we understand this, the sooner game publishers/devs will have to change their ways. Consumers are facilitating this BS behaviour unfortunately.
I mostly "play" Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2 on my PC deliberately disconnected from the internet. I don't like having to be "live". I have put up with being online with MSFS 2020 for the beautiful realistic scenery but I didn't like MSFS 2024's cloud design much so I probably will just stick with 2020
The other problem with large file sizes is long loading times, no we don't really like long loading times, but our technology limits us I guess... even with the fastest nvm2 with the sim and a bunch of mods, could take 10 mins from launch to the actual flight

It´s not a DDOS... its designed like this.

@ the mention of the price I paid was incidental to my point. The spirit of the point that I was trying to make agrees with you 100%
That's why I've stopped pre-ordering......I just wait for a sale now
It'll be in the bargain bin sooner rather than later.

Hello,
I am a software developer with one of the leading third-party companies that create add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

@@seandavis73 You're part of the problem. If nobody voices their irritation with not being able to use the thing they bought then this problem will just get worse and worse.
I was expecting a rough launch, but this is beyond broken.
Especially now that they have a lot of experience with flights sims and massive server infrastructures.
I've been a software development project manager for more than 20 years. Pretty sure if this was my launch I'd be fired.
@ I plan to check back in mid January and decide whether or not to buy it then.
People sometimes say, that Cyberpunk 2077's launch was terrible, and yes, it was buggy but at least you could actually play the game...
i never had any problems with cyberpunk i 2077 on launch but i recognised that others did. A lot of people cannot do that, if the game works for them other people's experiences do not count.
@@Mulberry2000 same here, had it on pc, a quite beefy one indeed, so yes, it was unpolished and some bugs were definitely there, but it was totally playable...
I think the state of game launches recently isn't an excuse for Microsoft, it's an indictment of the state of the video game industry at present.

No disrespect to you GM because I agree with what you say... but it feels like video could be made back in 2014
This (the situation, not the video) is literally the definition of insanity... we, as gamers, are doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
Its not gamers its "we the public". Remember a lot of parents will be buying this game for their kids.
I’m just glad that someone is finally talking about the idiots in power, I 100% agree!
This is the best rant I have seen on the MSFS 2024 thus far, and it's a crowded field.
Sounds like a complete ball ache, a real debacle. Glad I sat back on this one.
I handed my credit card to my wife to prevent impulse taking over.
Learned my lesson with Starfield. Will never pre order a game again.
How Awful.
In reality this was a beta test for AC Evo release.

It really is a sign of the times sadly.
@@pointblankracer6274 you need to download it in the content manager
You can't. It is all streamed at the moment. But right now that is not working of course. :)

Don't forget that the person who said all was OK for the launch was some pour tech guy not the guys managing the project.
Having worked with MS for a very long time I can tell you that a poor tech guy will have told them all about the issues but management will not have fully understood the technicalities and risk and has then insisted on ploughing on regardless of any problems just to meet arbitrary deadlines. It's been like this for years, they never learn.
Just give me a fucking grey grid where i can take off and fly 😂
Thank you for your honest opinion. I’m totally fine with what happened yesterday. Here is the most important thing:
They decided to format everything in the game and now you have to do full time job to configure every button in the keyboard every single stuff in the other devices you have.
Pics or I call shenanigans!
You don't want to quell potential sales from the marketing hype.

Oh hang on - it's now populated itself with a Cessna 172. Start Training button is greyed out though. Baby steps...
Msfs 2020 has sold about 1 million copies. No way tens of millions bought 2024
@@davidforman6191 ok not 10s of millions but they did say that had 15 million unique users of MSFS 2020 so that’s obviously more than 1 million lol

I simply cannot STAND that they tried to make this into an Xbox "game". That single decision, instead of having two separate releases, caused many many more issues than ever should've occurred and is another problem that is going to plague this forever unless they finally decide to have two separate releases.
That's not the reason for this.

I can't believe this.... 24 hours plus..... Beyond required specs.... Still 97pecent via steam uk

They must have hired the top brass from EA/codemasters. The experience is spending not playing.
That's where they got the no mouse curser idea from 😆
I must say I find very impressive to be able to talk 15 mins about something not working. Would like to have such speaking skills.
The sarcasm was on point
This is similar to the situation when bots were buying all the PS5's and the vast majority of us were left in the lurch due to inadequate prepatation.
30% is the expected failure of any GaaS. 50% is thenfristration of error handling not being sufficient enough to tell users what's happening and failing to set expectations.
If I were told the wait was two hours or more l, Id have soent my valuable free time doing something else.
And it’s very clunky, missing features from 2020, in my experience
i got in the game last night flew from Heathrow to Edinburgh and the game crashed not the plane lol.
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the donation , really apricated ! $5 is a whole box of tea
I was sure it would be a mess, that's why I didn't buy it. I tried the sim in the game pass and uninstalled it for now. Staying on MSFS2020 for now.
Any launch you can walk away from is a successful launch.
Ah, wouldn't be a GM video without some existential dread at the end :D
100% agree on all your points as well, especially that cinema analogy.
I think people expected the game to load past 15% within 3 hours though to be honest.
@@GamerMuscleVideos Yeh, it is a particularly bad example of a game launch, I'll give them that.
when more people actually start playing it they’ll release it’s terrible compared to 2020 version.
My theory is that they rushed it to get holiday sales and not be buried by GTA6 next year. Msfs24 likely needed another few months of polish.
