Wow! Very nice! And some really nice tricks with the reuse of the wine glass bases, and the painting of the clear glass in light green to match the existing glass. How did you cut off the wine glass bases, and how did you cut through the center of the rondell and the glass stem for the edge pieces? Also, you may not have a glass grinder, but they can be used to reduce the diameter of the rondell. So, I guess you may have quoted a price for the job. Since it took extra time, did you increase the price or go with the original price? Rondells are costly in the US, and often cost between $6 and $12 each. Another shape that causes problems is the hexagon or honeycomb. Lots of wasted glass there. Sorry about all the questions, but am interested. Thanks!
So, I took the glasses to my local glazier who chopped them down for me. I did consider using 'proper' roundels and reducing the size but, as you say, they are expensive and they weren't a particularly good match. I chopped them in half with the usual score and snap method - although I scored on both sides to help matters. Worked better than expected actually. I'm going to do myself a hex window one of these days - time allowing. I fancy painting a few bees!
@@SophiesStainedGlass Thank you for answering my questions. Looking forward to seeing your hex window with bees! Please let me know if you figure out a way to reduce glass waste with a hex pattern.
Beautiful rondel windows I really like the look!! Feeling your frustration as the novice I am have only done foil but watching your expert work has encouraged me to try led with some rondel's ! T Y for sharing this 25 min frustration. 🥳😘
Did you number the roundels? expect you thought they were the same size. If not, a lesson in numbering them and treat them as a normal window. Love the finished panel. Looks good. Good use of wine glasses! Some jobs are set to try us, but you won!.
Actually I did number them... but I had to soak them overnight and proper scrub them to get the cement off so the numbers melted away. Also the tiny bits in between were too small really so their places were lost. It would maybe have been better if I could have saved the numbers.
Good question. I would have organised the roundels by size and tried to distribute the bigger ones more evenly. I didn't realise when I started that there was such a variety.
The finished product looked brilliant 👍🏻. Some jobs are sent to test us, and that was a stinker.
Absolutely!
❤ thank you for showing the struggles, too
My pleasure. Thanks for watching.
In a word “WOW”!
thanks :-)
Thank you Sophie! This was exactly what I needed to see! Hope I can get my rounds to fit as well 🙂 Yours turned out beautifully!!
Thanks for the encouraging words!

Beautiful job. Appreciate that❤❤
sooo hard!!

Thank you :-)
Awesome! very inspiriting.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for sharing. I’m glad you were able to make it work.
Me too!
Estaría bueno que las explicaciones esten tambien en español?muchas gracias
Everyone is different what a job! Looks nice though.
Thanks!
I was getting so anxious and stress just watching.
It was the a window from my nightmares!!
How did you cut the base from the glass?
scored, snapped, grozered, ground. I had more glasses than I needed so I could pick the most successful ones.
Great, thank you. I always learn so much from the difficult ones, anything you would do different next time, to make in less time?
Good question. I would have organised the roundels by size and tried to distribute the bigger ones more evenly. I didn't realise when I started that there was such a variety.
That was so painful. I really felt for you. But didn’t they look great once they were fitted!
It was a dark time in my life!!
That looked a right pain in the ass. After chopping off the stems, how did you smooth those areas? Ever consider learning torch work??
Interesting...no I hadn't thought of that. I just gave the pointy bits a bit of a file. Grinding them gave the wrong finish.
You say " It's not an old window, it's not traditional " Could you explain what you mean by this?
It's is only about 30 years old (in my estimation) and not a traditional design - although still very in keeping for the property.
@@SophiesStainedGlass What age is the property and is it listed?
@@johnm4891 Not listed. Turn of the century
I would of held it to ransom until the owner paid me double 🤣🤣
At least triple!
👏👏
:-)
You've topped yourself. This is the most realistic video on stained glass on the internet. The rest, well lots of them anyway, are staged a bit.
Well, it's the way it goes sometimes, as we know!
I hate this panel on your behalf. It did turn out, though!
Thank you for sharing the hate!!
