The vast Azovstal steel plant is the last holdout of Ukrainian forces in the devastated southern port city of Mariupol. Homes around it have been reduced to a wasteland littered with bodies, but despite nearly two months of siege and bombardment, Russian forces have failed to break through to the steel plant. It’s estimated that a few thousand Ukrainian troops remain in Azovstal and yet Russian President Vladimir Putin, on April 21, 2022, declared the city liberated. Why is Russia so desperate to conquer Mariupol and finally take hold of the Azovstal steel plant? SCMP explains.

There is no need for Russia to storm the plant. Just sit still and the 3k or so trapped people will run out of food and water sooner or later. The defenders need to be realistic of their chances.

There are 24 kilometers of tunnels runnning deep under the industrial zone of the Azovstal Plant which owned by oligarch Rinat Akhmetov, burried up to 30 meters deep. There is also a secret NATO facility PIT-404 and a secret NATO biolaboratory for biological weapons. NATO officers have been trapped in this PIT-404 facility. These tunnels are fitted out with a armored bunker system. There are about 240 foreign nationals inside, including NATO officers and the French Foreign Legion soldiers as well as personnel of the biolaboratory. Their security, funded by Akhmetov, numbers up to 3,000 men. The bio-laboratory under the Azovstal plant in Mariupol at the so-called PIT-404 facility was built and operated by Metabiota, a company affiliated with Hunter Biden, Rinat Akhmetov and Vladimir Zelensky. The laboratories of this facility were used to test the development of bioweapons. Thousands of Mariupol residents became "guinea pigs" in horrific tests. Moreover, it was mostly Western "specialists" who took part in these inhumane experiments. French intelligence and special operations officers failed to get their fellow soldiers out of Mariupol. This is the reason why Macron was calling the Kremlin so often and asking for "humanitarian corridors. Some French intelligence officers died during the rescue operation. The head of French intelligence, Eric Vido, was fired on March 31, 2022, for failing French intelligence in the war in Ukraine. Officers from the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey, Sweden, Poland, and Greece are now trapped in the dungeons of Azovstal.
US Lieutenant General Roger Clotier captured the other day by the DNR People's Militia out of a downed helicopter, had been tracked by the Russian GRU and SVR in Mariupol based on external surveillance of his mistress in Turkey in Izmir. A Ukrainian national, known to intelligence as Klute, used to accompany the general as his field wife, confidante and interpreter. When information was received that the lady had arrived in Mariupol, Russia launched a military operation and sealed off the city. Reports of Clotier’s capture were linked to the well-informed American Veterans’ portal Veterans Today, and were picked up by many Internet resources, Rusonline org said.
However, the Pentagon has so far responded to all inquiries from journalists about the capture of the American general in Ukraine with silence, not fitting in with its typical pattern of behavior. The only thing that leads to the conclusion that the Pentagon is keeping quiet because the truth might cause a sensation undesirable for the US administration and inevitably lead to further questions.
Question one. When did General Cloutier arrive in Ukraine, and in particular in Mariupol? Should his arrival have taken place well before the start of the special military operation, it directly points to the fact that preparations for the AFU offensive had been conducted under the direction of the US and NATO military, and had been executed from the dungeons of the Azovstal Plant. However, the war reality has turned around unexpectedly for the NATO soldiers. The second question. How many advisers - NATO officers - were in the General's team? It would be nice if the answer to this question listed the specialization of the "big brothers from overseas": ground operations, air force operations, sabotage, information operations, and the like. Once that has been done, the advisers' claims for a corridor from Mariupol must be rejected. These military personnel participated in the war as representatives of NATO and should be detained and interrogated. They are combatants, and this is a scandal. The situation must also be considered from the international legal point of view.
Question two. How many advisors and officers from NATO were in the general's team? It would be helpful if the answer to this question would list the expertise of the "big brothers from overseas": ground operations, air force operations, subversive activities, information operations, etc.

Fake news. Ukraine and many other states have tried to evacuate civilians, but Russia has stayed stubborn and refused. Even the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church offered the evacuate civilians under the banner of the Holy See, but Russia refused. Only a few civilians have been able to be evacuated so far, because Red Cross and UN asked. Soldiers in Azovstal don't need human shields, the tunnels were built during Soviet times to be a fortress.
Entering the bunkers would be a pyrrhic victory for Russia, and trying to leave the plant would be disasterous for the Ukrainians, and both sides know that.
My heart aches for civilians in this pointless conflict. All Russia needs to do is respect international law, and this conflict will end.

Dude, the city is now cleared except the plant. There is nothing to surrender. I've watched Italian, British, south American, Serbian reports from the city and the ones before Easter (apr 24) and after shows the people walking around, they explain what happened, there is a small outdoor market, people running generators to charge batteries. The fighting in the city has stopped.

As I listen to the news, several anchormen have referred to the AZOVSTAL Steel Plant in Mariupol as Ukraines’s “ALAMO”. Like the stubborn Texans, the Azov Battalion plus women & children are all held up in there against continual onslaught by the Russians.
Like the ALAMO, the AZOVSTAL will surely fall. They are outnumbered and outgunned. The fall of the AZOVSTAL will be a rallying cry for Ukrainians.
Perhaps Ukrainian children of the future will recite something like this in their elementary school classrooms:

@@warren5037 Azov battalion had around 1200 soldiers at the beginning of the war. Its obviously smaller now. Mariupol was defendes by other Ukrainian battalions and divisions. There is not only Azov battalion in the steel plant but other troops aswell. Battalion numbers around 1000 soldiers, if it has more than that its not a battalion anymore but a division. And Azov battalion is a battalion.....
Azov grow up to 5000 and there were 102000 paramilitaries in Ukraine prior to the war

It's interesting that during the defense of Stalingrad in WW ll against the German nZs, the key area the nZs could not take was the factory district with the "Red October Steel Plant" a key part. With unbelievable determination, the Soviets would not surrender.
The Germans encouraged them to surrender to save their lives but they didn't.
The defenders back then had the slogan, "There is no land beyond the Volga" meaning they will not retreat to the other side of the Volga river.

1. Российские войска не разрушали город Мариуполь, а сами военные Украины сделали это. Они прикрывались мирными горожанами, занимая их квартиры, размещая военную технику среди дворов. Есть множество видео роликов свидетельства этого у военных корреспондентов. Отступая ВСУ расстреливали дома и людей. Спросите почему они это делали со своими согражданами ? Потому что город Мариуполь пророссийский , русскоговорящий город. Его им не жалко.
2. Российская сторона много раз предлагала и предоставляла зеленные коридоры для мирного населения города Мариуполь. Но к сожалению украинская сторона обманывала население и не выпускала его. А тех кто пытался выехать самостоятельно украинская территориальная оборона (гражданские , которым раздали оружие) расстреливала их. Есть много видео роликов об этом в интернете.
А российская сторона наоборот под обстрелами вывозила мирное население из зоны боевых действий.
Тоже видео роликов куча в интернете.
Российские волонтёры рискуя своими жизнями привозили и привозят сейчас продукты питания, медикаменты и т.д. горожанам Мариуполя , когда там велись боевые действия.
Спасали, вывозили горожан Мариуполя.
3. На Азовсталь находятся не простые военные Украины, а нацбатальон Азов (почитайте про них в интернете). Это националисты, бандеровцы и фашисты. Которые совершили много плохого. Также там находится мирные жители, которых держат в заложниках. Есть свидетельства о том, что их туда насильно загоняли военные Украины. Также там находятся наёмники разных стран, которых много раз пыталась эвакуировать вертолётами, но их сбили военные РФ.
Российская сторона много раз предоставляла зеленные коридоры для выхода этих мирных жителей и военных для сдачи в плен, но их оттуда не выпускают свои же, нацбатальон Азов. Почему ? Потому что им нужны заложники, чтобы самим спастись. По зелёным коридорам вышли несколько тысяч военнослужащих ВСУ и морпехов Украины из разных частей промышленной зоны города. А скольких нашли в промышленной этой зоне расстрелянных в спину военных ВСУ, которые хотели сдаться российской стороне ( без оружия , с листовкой про сдачу в плен). Есть видео про это. Их убили свои же.
К сожалению тем, кто там находится не разрешают сдаться в плен их руководство и правительство Украины. Они их обманули. Им обещали и обещают деблокады, которой не будет.
А руководство РФ не стало рисковать своими военными. И отменила штурм территории Азовстали на её блокаду.
В Мариуполе начинается мирная жизнь. Люди вышли из подвалов, убираются завалы, расчищают дороги. Российская сторона поможет ДНР заново отстроить город.
Это ложь. Посмотри на видео, на город. Жил- был красивый город, тут зашли «освободители» из России и украинцы вдруг начали в свои города стрелять.
Открой глаза, выключи телевизор , включи мозги.
