why is it called the gate lmfao
Very well done. One of the best shorts I have watched recently. The warning on 'un-regulated' products is clear. However that opens another rather large can of worms.
There is a fake news in this documentary: the website of Pfizer hasn't been shut down ...
Where the hell do I find that drug? Sounds like a great way to jumpstart my mutant army.
*xSlowday*
A gateway drug, possibly, also linked to the gates of hell, maybe?
🤪😂
The office one was scary because it seemed to be more human and somewhat aware of what had happened to it. It had fear and confusion in its eyes as if it knew it had been changed

The office mutant really freaked me out and oh my gosh well done to those who made this short film. Brilliant, absolutely Brilliant! There was a good sense of the "Dead Space" game franchise in this but with common problems and the abuse of drugs. This was a very investigative movie and the actors, I could hardly call them actors. They just looked so real. I can imagine that there were lots of meetings such as this when the Covid-19 began to spread.
Lol, no
Then your a coward
bro at the end of the film the last monster looks like scp 096 but it kills people even not looking at hes face lol
@@rhinzparena9673 i dont even think the last one killed anyone, did you see how fast that last one was, it would have caught up to the running woman about instantly, yet we see a shot of her running and what im assuming is calling the dude above, then he looks into the dudes office and runs off, im assuming that they still have a conscious but are just evolved and dont know what to do.
i could see this being a full blown movie
This is one of the aspects I love about sci-fi. The ability to take modern issues and frame them in a way that drives home the dangers and pitfalls without feeling "preachy".
@@YTubeCheese Agreed... a little preachy, but not really until the end. Up until that point, I was really drawn into the story and the production is top-shelf. When the text appeared, well, I was just a little disappointed.
*YTubeCheese*
👏👏👏
@@nvrumi Agree with U 2, not sure how I feel about the end. A bit Preachy to say the least. (even if true...)
@@MrStevos I would have gotten the point if they had left off the text screens at the end of the short. It was all there in the dialogue. I think that would have improved the film quite a bit.
@@nvrumi Same. What's the "Gate" in the title, then? I was all ready to hear about demonic incursions or whatever it was. PSA about online pharmacies, yawn. Sigh. Shame because production value and effects up til then were great.
I LOVE the monster designs. They’re just perfect, and the balance between human and alien features is amazing. For some reason they make me uncomfortable and trigger a fight or flight response I’ve never gotten from a design before.
It might be the human teeth and eyes that help instil that
@@bertiesaurus The eyes def have something to do with it. When the monster was staring at that girl in the office silently with his predatory gaze made me want to cry. Guess it’s just unsettling seeing human eyes look like that.
Uncanny valley is probably what’s making you uncomfortable about their designs. We’re especially disturbed by things that look just human enough
A bear is scary, I bear with a deformed child's face is much much more disturbing
It has a third one
Freeze.
Candidly one of the most limiting factors in a lot of shorts is the acting. I really enjoy sci-fi shorts but often turn them off after a minute or two because the acting is so poor. In this particular short the acting was incredible as was the casting. Frankly it was the best short I’ve ever seen. And it’s not just the acting. All aspects of this short were excellent from the editing, directing and the whole story
I watched Suicide Squad recently and I have to say that even a mediocre Dust short produced on a shoestring budget is better than that was 😒
Agreed - all but the editing. Some of the out-of-focus shots could be timed better or even eliminated as well as some jump cuts. The whole "handheld camera" on scene is great for immersion - but in this instance it seemed oddly directed, especially when paired with the whole sci-fi future theme.
Dusts actors are always often good and realistic. That's probably what makes them so damn good.
I've been impressed by the acting for the most part.
the point they make is sub-terranean, hating on generics but not mentioning mRNA experimental drugs in 2022 is akin to being in cahoots.
Amazing. The creature design, the sound design, the editing, the cold rationalizing of something so absurdly horrifying, its all done very effectively
This was actually a really good short, the acting was a whole lot better than many other shorts I've seen. Well done guys!
And some movies ngl
Fr dude it was creepy but the acting and how they managed to get the actors to look like those
I remember watching this short YEARS ago and then not being able to find it again! It’s still so great all these years later!

@@milimuller3348 it's a matter of how much time the writers can write and how a show can carry on with it's base premise. That and investing time in a show is a huge factor which movies don't need to do. Even then a show sounds more promising, as instead of focusing on a main cast of characters it can instead do unique tales from survivors which would be fascinating for the audience to watch.
How the hell has no one got this made into a feature length? Absolutely brilliant.
An interesting story, with superb acting and great special effects with a relevant message. Well done to everyone involved.
I would rather refer to it as propaganda over relevant message. It's the legalized drug dealers that get immunity and profits and thier long term war against holistic medicines that impede thier profit margins is no secret. A false flag operation by an advanced pharma lab to sway beurocrats is far more believable.
@@strayblackcatsmeow True. But do read between the lines. Nowadays we must duck to make it through censorship.

thanks, you saved me the bother
I agree!
this should be a series like the walking dead or war of the worlds or a movie...i want to see more.
Everything about this short is great. Pacing, storytelling, theme, visuals, acting...
Powerful. The actors were brilliant and the VFX jaw-dropping. The forensic style was extremely effective - the cues for "crime drama" trigger a sense of recognition, a conditioned reflex that amplifies the suspense and the viewer's sense of anticipation. The impact of the real world message at the end was like the cannons in the 1812 Overture. Boom!
I’m amazed at the entire DUST channel…the acting is just so good! Many/most of the actors are just every bit as good as ‘famous’ ones. And the plots and stories and production are amazing
No this is rubbish we want more sequels, remakes & marvel films... NOT!
Has this been put in for a movie yet? They did it with Lights Out, I want THIS next! 🤩
nice to watch a short film like this that is more entertaining and interesting, tells more of a story and has better character development than a lot of the big block busters coming out these days :)
@@georget4556 11 minutes of action and entertainment is better than 90+ minutes of boredom and pure meh nevertheless ;)
@George T Regardless of anyone's attention span, modern blockbuster movies simply doesn't have anything worth paying attention to. Little to no plot cannot be compensated with multibillion dollar CGI. Same goes for main protags, who lack personality and development and are as plastic as a Barbie doll.
@@NihilusIUA quality over quantity as the old saying goes ;) :)
*cough* matrix *cough*
what character development?
An extremely well acted short with incredibly slick production. The effects, especially, were of such a high level of quality (despite the presumably minimal budget) and quite beautiful to witness.
Fantastic. Beautifully shot. Nice lighting.
What needs to be regulated is the outrageous cost of Pharma medicinals thus reducing the need to buy from unlicensed sources.
Wholesale retirement of the pharma is in order ... as well as the technology illustrated in this film ...
Big pharma are making big bucks from selling experimental medical products, which is being administered to millions.
The short provoked many thoughts on the subject and certainly that's a valid one too.
@Grim FPV Consumers are better off deciding for themselves what to use, so why regulate them at all ? we regulate them to protect the population. ...........preventing or mandating medications is productive. , dont you mean profitable ? of course it is productive , countries around the world have regulation and tests and checks. it " seems " that only in the usa, are the big pharma allowed to sell products at a huge profit , thereby forcing people to lok elsewhere for more economical products. and where people look outside regulation for products , those with lower morals will take advantage of that. regulation of standards and costs is required , so that everyone has access to safe , affordable medicines. this happens outside of the usa. . why am i having a go at the usa? i'm not , i'm just pointing out how the usa works and how countries with a universal healthcare system works. , which is every country outside of the usa. " but thats socialism !!! " if it is so bad, how come every country except the usa uses it? this short film has shown an example ( possibly far fetched ) of what might happen , when unregulated drugs are used. ... now think if it affected those with the most common blood type , not to this extreme , but to the world war z type ?
@@richard6440 The regulatory and licensing requirements aren't about protecting people, except incidentally. They are about ensuring that certain people and organizations hold exclusive privileges on the revenue stream. Chances are that most of the stuff - good and bad - which is sold through unregulated sources is still made in the same Big Pharma labs.
The story line is intriguing, the plot is good, the on/off camera really brings in the suspense. All elements, from lighting, actors play, to the sound… I wished it would be longer. Great job!
Man I’d love to see a full length movie around this
Two times within 2 weeks? Another hit film short? Actual sci-fi horror that's visually appealing with a great pace and good actors? No fee-fee dialogue tossed in for no apparent reason? Congrats on another winner! 👍🏼🏆🥇🔥
Watching this short is like reading poetry. Thank you so much to Matt Westrup and his team! ❤
Incredible context! A good "Sci-fi" is to reveal how weird and strange the human world is ..... Two thumbs up!
Indeed ! Most people watch movies and stories for the entertainment aspect, Like my dad use to tell me in the 70s before anything like what we see today with the ongoing world experiment of a biological weapon to wipe out humanity. It has played out like a well written scifi movie by a handful of wealthy reptilian hybrid oligarchs because of their lust for money and their insane thinking that they are above everyone else. Btw we do have a god given Immune system that learns how to handle pathogens and viruses but what we see today is people doing the govts bidding on the indoctrination that we do not have an Immune system.
And these days none can see the games being played by propagandic fake news and fake political Bravo Sierra...
And they did speak of DNA manipulation, Something that the Anunnaki has been doing for centuries.
This is the stuff that makes Dust worth coming back to. We do have to sift through lesser material, but stuff like this makes it well worth it!
I absolutely LOVE this!
As much as I want to say "SCP Foundation," this is more like what the Global Occult Coalition would be like
Well, the foundation would act like this too, if the mutants were not the primary anomaly being contained.
@@daphnejyothi4795 Very true!

Standing ovation. I was in need of a SciFi fix and this was perfection. Mostly conversational with very cool special effect used in flashbacks. This short film format is so effective for those film makers who embrace it. Succeeded in posing thought provoking comparisons to our current reality, ie Pharmaceuticals and our proclivity towards various meds/vaccines/performance enhancers.
Saw this years ago, still fantastic. The quality of the CGI is driven home by the excellent performances of the review committee, who easily suspend your disbelief and give it real weight. The real-life stinger at the end leaves it resonating. Quality at every level.
How did you see this years ago?

This short was incredible! The story was interesting and clever, and the acting excellent! You can tell a lot of work went into this movie short! I think it should be made into a full length movie! Bravo to everyone involved in this kickass video short!
a very left handed message to everyone who has the eyes to see, the ears to hear - what the message of the movie is - sad to say in the comments I am reading most are taking it at face value and not deep diving into what the real blueprints of the script are pointing at - and of course I can't come right out and say it because that cancels the way the movie was made to point but not shout what it's message is - if only if only we were surrounded by those who were in the world but not of it. -- thank you Matt.
Right you are! If you know you know. 😉
Wow, this was very impressive. It looks professionally made and cinema-grade. Well done! As has been noted, the acting as well as the script were superb
The one in the office seemed to be different, it seemed conscious. It seemed like he knew what happened to him. Quite horrifying.
Excellent! All aspects of this short were very-well handled.
I literally noped out of that video after the first scare jump
Lovely bit of storytelling. Great cast. Fantastic Baconesque special effects.
(Baconesque = the artistic works of Francis Bacon.)
I too thought the creatures looked like uncooked bacon. I share in this observation with you fellow viewer. It has caused me to initiate my hunger cycle. I will update you on the subsequent actions I take henceforth to remedy this. Until then, I bid thee adieu.

@@lmarshall9093 gotcha. There was a philosopher with exact name born in the 1500s 🤷🏻
A very effective sci-fi/horror short. As others have pointed out, it's well-acted. More than that, it comes to a conclusion rather than being a cheap cliffhanger. And the monsters are both visually believable, and strangely pathetic: Note how rather than attacking people, they seem confused, disoriented, in terrible pain, and quite credibly like individuals suffering the onset of some horrible, inexplicable medical condition.
Incidentally, the "Martin Wiseman" monster (~ 7:28) resembles a gigantic version of Octavia Butler's Clayarks.
This film really gave us chills here's. There's so much to unpack without having too many details as we the viewers, need makes it all the more maddening!
There is a lot to be said for subtlety and very few people are able to effectively hide their primary "weapon," (the mutant) from the cast AND the viewers.
You folks did a smashing job with this. The way you showed only what you had to made the story even better and it seriously scared the crap out of me!
Whilst I was watching for one thing to happen, another thing leapt out and gave me a heart attack when I wasn't paying attention. How I would have LOVED for third movie to have about five minutes more of this film to get a chance to see the effect spread on a global scale. (A new 'I Am Legion,'?)
This short deserves to be longer. Acting and good direction helped glue this one together. would love to see more from this team.
Now here's something I haven't thought about in like ten years
One of the best shorts I've seen in a while. The acting and script gave gravitas to the story. This could easily be a prequel to an action horror movie.
"This has been a public service announcement..." I just loved it... Serious, well done, extremely interesting. World governments, take heed.
This needs to be funded heavily and a full movie needs to be made this was amazing!
Well done Matt Westrup ! This time I am really grateful to the RUclips algorithm. Wow ! This has enough elements to become a Series, once you stick with the original team and develop the characters with the original actors. Phenomenal visual effects .I found myself counting down the minutes, I just did not want it to end so soon. I was actually pulled into this film, the way it was done, it felt so real. This Short has unlimited, untapped potential. Bravo !!!
This video had better acting than most movies, and had a quick and to the point story development. I would absolutely love this to become a movie of it's own with more horror elements. Perhaps as a sequel to this, considering Mr. Ackerman did warn it could happen again. The CGI was actually pretty amazing and gave me feelings of multiple games and movies, one of which was mentioned in a comment, the game "Dead Space". Anyway, excellent work to Matt Westrup and his crew, and I hope they continue their great work! Thanks for posting this DUST!
This is a really good short. One of the best I've seen in a bit.
If I had any criticism at all, it's the jump between quiet dialogue and loud sounds - which is pretty brutal on headphone wearers.
That is my only critique, as well.
That's pretty much standard these days, unfortunately
@@80s_Boombox_Collector what else is pretty much standard, these days. Thanks in advance.
I must applaud for this production. The acting, the light, the sound, kust splendid.
The best I've seen on DUST for a very very long time. This has fantastic potential for a full length film.
Don't know what to say other than this is a seriously terrifyingly superb work! The amount of creepiness of the situations presented in a somewhat flat narrative made it even more haunting. Excellently done this is!
One of the best shorts I've ever seen. I love every aspect of it and the deeper meaning is not too hidden (like in many artsy fartsy movies around here). Awesome work!
Bravo!
Full length please.
Build upon this world and take us for a ride.
Absolutely remarkable. Very well structured story, a solid purpose and great pacing and acting. One of the best shorts I've seen.
Brilliant concept! This has the appearance of having a generous budget. But I think excellent planning and expert resource allocation was most likely employed. You got the most out of VFX and the very few locations you had. Incredible work. This is a masterclass.
Wow, glad I found this again! I remember watching a much shorter version of this film in school in 2009 after finding it in a Cracked article on great short horror films. So cool to see the HD version at last, and with a lot more new footage as well. An excellent bit of horror, there are still times when I'm alone at night and I remember this film and it drives me to terror. I still think the PSA at the end is a bit naff, you established the subtext very well, we didn't need it spelled out for us so bluntly, but it's not a deal breaker. Breaking it up with the brief shots of horrific monsters keeps it scary at least. Excellent work!
Top notch production! The mixture of the intelligent sobriety of "Bourne Identity" with the gooey horror of "Alien" was a fantastic idea, and pulled off with precise camera, effects, editing, sound, and directing. Excellent!
Extremely good, and VERY thought provoking! Kudos for another excellent addition.

Most excellent short film. It quickly got to the heart of the manner in a way that was easily understood, and the acting was excellent. Two things that are sorely lacking in many short films! Great job and I look forward to seeing more from Matt!
Love the story telling, cinematography, security uniforms and associated animation. This would make a great Netflix X-files special agent type series just better.
The water negotiation was a short masterpiece. I learned of this channel in a comment on a movie recap channel which referenced the aforementioned short being similar to the movie being presented. I think I'm in love with this channel.
Well done on all fronts. Strong dialog, story arc, technical/science details, CGI, editing, acting, lighting, etcetera. The only tiny issue is that when confronted with the transformed individual in the office building there was no reaction. No scream or exclamation. You read in comments frequently about a short having the potential to be made into a full length movie. That is surely true for this wonderfully done short film.
My thought was the 2 individuals that came across that transformed human were so shocked, that they were speechless!
The fact that this short film is better than a lot of movies today scares me-
Not at all what I expected. Very well done. Thank you.

Some of these talented people should be recruited to bring this Magic to the big screen. A lot of us are waiting and hopeful to see this!
i like how this film shows that even though lawmakers claim that more laws and restrictions are for the greater good, and for public safety, laws dont stop criminals from committing the acts, only making it harder for law abiding citizens to defend themselves
Amen brother, amen. Lock and Load.
Depends which country you're in. In the US, those laws are simply nonexistent or not being enforced, because too many people complain about "big government". For example the dietary supplement industry is virtually unregulated.
oh ffs guys, the entire point of the film was that the government wasn't doing enough and didn't care. Pharmaceuticals are different than guns. The former can be logically regulated, and the "self defense" argument is inapplicable. The latter is where the "self defense" argument is applicable, and where regulation is less logical.
This is about pharmaceutical drugs that need regulation, not guns
LOL, so naive
The mixture of uncanny valley and back rooms environment in the office created such a good eerie feel that kicks your fight or flight into overdrive. Wow was this a good short!!!
