it's so good to see Rutger again. He was such a versatile and natural actor. I don't know how you got him to participate in this but thank you for letting us see him in his brilliance again. Fantastic story. The writing and direction is spot on. ❤️
The Black man out-acted him by a million miles.
Well, Rutger does know about fast-grown clones and artificial memories...but it would have been even better if the guy getting scanned had said "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain..."
@@lonesomephreak69 they will not ....
Anyone up for Lady Hawk?
💯💯💯
It doesn't matter what film he is in. It is always a joy to see Rudger Hauer perform. :)
One of my all-time favourite actors.
R.I.P Rutger Hauer. He was like this Clone. His memories live for Ever,A DAY
Rutger Hauer in short movie...that's wow!!!
“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.” Rest in peace Rutger.
His death totally went under my radar... I thought the dude was still around. Damn... :(
Amen. He had an awesome voice and his ability to deliver lines in a unique way that was kind of soothing.
I liked the blind guy in the casino in one if his movies

I see Rutger Hauer, I click immediately!!! :)
RIP Rutger Hauer. You are greatly missed and one of the greats.
Excellent. Forever and a day. Thanx Rutger!
That was some very good acting to the gentlemen on the chair.I actually dropped a tear.
He conveyed a lot of compelling character and emotion for such a short film.
I think he stole the show. Even with the great Rutger right beside him.
Great job!
There he is...one of my all time favourite actors! When Blade Runner came out in Germany, i was twenty and made a copy from a VHS rental cassette to a Sony Betamax. It became even darker and more sinister, loved it! The times of Billy Idol, Sade, Robert Palmer, David Bowie...unforgetable and never replicable.
Yep you da man
...seems that you only listened the tip of the iceberg fella
Bin ganz mit dir. Bin 1954 geboren.
David, in the cinema first or only on tape? Subtitles or dubbed?
I missed seeing this in cinemas, same for Alien. 😥
mulțumesc canalului Dust și You Tube pentru acest film
Thank you for showing this , with the Late Great Rutger Hauer.
He was truly one in a Billion, he could play anything or anyone.
Godspeed Rutger G.B.N.F. Ever.
Rutger is the best...good story..we ARE our memories...
RIP Mr Hauer, who played a legendary android that helped influence the cyberpunk genre by leaps and bounds. This story is a solid existential crisis for modern audiences, and it reminds me of a Twilight Zone/Outer Limits episode where they proclaimed they'd invented teleportation to allow instant travel between worlds/stars, but in fact all they'd done is clone people at their destination while executing the original body to prevent doubles.
The Outer Limits "Think Like a Dinosaur"
That's essentially the plot of Clifford Simak's "Way Station".
I always had this idea that the teleporter in Star trek kills the original and creates a copy :)
@@ix12 Yes because one in one out if it teleported but it created two James Kirks in one story and two William Rikers in another story.
Sounds like "The Prestige" borrowed a bit from that as well.
love seeing Rutger Hauer!
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
Wonderful short! And so great to see Mr. Hauer again!!!! ❤❤❤
Always love seeing the brilliance of Rutger Hauer.
DUST has surpassed ALL other programs for short sci-fi films in this gendre.
Anything with the great Rutger Hauer is a treat - a rare talent. He is missed by many. His memory lives on.
Well done short 10/10. Makes you think about what make us...US, and what happens when our consciousness leaves our bodies or even what REALLY happens when we sleep or die.
Only thing better if there was a part 2 to see what happens when the patient is in his new body.
I may have missed the idea but I understand he will not have a new body.
Then why does Hauer say he will have to replicate the scar? Seems like he wants the clone to think he is the original when he looks in the mirror.
@@yoda5477 he will have a new body. they should put another clone on the other table and tell him all went well and he survived the surgery.
this is also what would happen if you teleport. you have to die and be rebuilt on the other side.
@Chickens and Gardening I have wondered what I would do. What possible reason might be worth the teleport. What if I was going to TP to a space station around Saturn, or another star system, or to live in a wonderful place or something. How much excitement and interest in life I could give to my cloned self, who would remember me, being me, and still get to do these amazing things. In some stories, they are only TPing to go to work and stuff. booooooo lol
loved watching Rutger Hauer and Deobia Oparei and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker. loved the story too.
Just the name Rutger Hauer in the opening credits brought a smile to my face that lasted the duration of this entire short.
Epic!
RIP Mr. Hauer 💐
Many thanx 👍👍
A brilliant little gem! And what a pleasure to see Rutger Hauer once more. He's always very good. Congrats to all involved.
Rutger Hauer is an absolute Legend. The Hitcher, Blade Runner, Hobo With a Shotgun, and sum other stuff...
In "The Hitcher", Rutger Hauer brought me the most terrifying movie monster in my experience. In "Blade Runner", he brought me Roy Batty, the artifact more human than most humans.
Exacly
He can *really* do 'sinister' so powerfully, even just silent / still, just with his eyes........Yikes! '@_@'
Rutger is excellent in The Escape from Sobibor as well!
@@greyhoundfriend123 Yeah, even in more schlocky B-Movie fare like *The Salute of the Jugger* (1989) (called 'The Blood of Heroes' in some territories, or so I've heard) he really strikes a powerful, deft presence in what overall is a pretty silly / hard-to-make-work role (He plays an nomadic, post-apocalyptic Mad Max-y sports-hero fella....Where the 'ball' is a dogs head) '😄'
- Also the only other place I've seen 'Josie Packard' from the original Twin Peaks, in another role as his partner (if memory serves)
Fun movie tho, if you like B-Movies 👍
@@greyhoundfriend123 I actually have that on DVD. lol
Unbelievable cinema photography. So impress.
You had me at Rutger Hauer (one of the greats), Bolliger. Pleased Mr. Hauer joined this production as he's amazing. Clones is a solid short w/a good premise, fine direction, acting, casting & more, It feels primarily like a platform for Rutger to shine upon all too briefly and then disappear....like tears in rain, leaving us wanting more.
Love it when big guys, Rutger, help out new peeps in the bus.
Rutger Hauer, awesome.
So good seeing Rutger Hauer making a movie. Great stuff, I really enjoy Dust's selections.
He is one of my favorites
Very good. The story was concise and thought-provoking--like SF from 50 or 70 years ago. It asks questions (without actually asking them) that make us think about the limits of technology and our place in the universe. I miss stories like this.
The acting was, obviously, of high calibre.
The cinematography caught my attention, without taking me out of the story. I appreciate how it starts out with wider shots as we're introduced to the situation, and then slowly tightens in as the story becomes more personal--eventually being all close-ups of the 3 characters as they deal with the situation... only to pull back as the doctor returns to being clinical.
Kudos to all involved.
Rutger Hauer had a way with the timing of his delivery that worked every time. He could make a mediocre film look like gold just by being in it.
love. Rutger
I miss Rutger and his talent. This short is very well done.
Rutger Hauer... that smile !!
- "We killed him..."
- "We saved him... Forever and a day..."
So deep on many levels. Fantastic short.
Rutger brings authenticity to these high class proceedings
This is the kind of thing where SciFi really shines, ethical and moral dilemmas with futuristic piossibilities
I'm fed up with it. All these half arsed artificial pseudo philosophies. And most of them have been done to death. If the story had other elements that are primary to hold interest and the pseudo theory could even be leveraged to add to the story it can work but if the entire film is just a presentation of a miniscule idea that hasn't even been developed it drops to the floor with a thud. What's further ridiculous to this scene is that it's the mental backup, supposedly taken to protect against failure to remove the tumor, that actually kills him. Hopelessly contradictory. No actual story. Just a half arsed germ of a concept someone had down the pub one day and never developed it further.
Well we are currently living in sci fi horror movie globally and there is complete absence of ethical and moral!
*assed 😊
@@nihilistic7840 The mental backup is not a safeguard against failure of the procedure, it IS the procedure. And the question posed is: What is a human being? Is it an individual with intrinsic value to himself and others by virtue of his consciousness and experience and all the little unique bits and bobs and imperfections, or is it a cog in the machine, whose value depends on it usefulness and the functions it can perform?
If the first, this was murder, if the second, he was saved. Forever and a day. But since it is both, this is at best a huge ethical dilemma. It is easy to see why you would want to preserve the mind of a genius, for the sake of his problem solving skills. And if he had a "brain tumor the size of an apple", copying it over into a clone was maybe the only way. His attempts at thwarting the process and the nurse's reluctance and grief illustrates the individualistic angle. If all he was, was his usefulness, he would rather die.
Kind of like the people who refuse to let their organs be transplanted after they die, perhaps?
@@nihilistic7840 this is what you can get in 12 minutes.
Tip of the hat, good to see Rutger! And that soundtrack… Immediately took me back to 2001: A Space Odyssey.
It was so good to see Rutger again even if only for a short while,
this is one of the finest most well presented pieces on Dust yet, i was gripped by this & it left me wanting more, this has the basis for a full feature, everything was there in the right amounts from the acting to the graphics to the sound,
outstanding !
So,... Rutger Hauer...
“I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”
His performance in the film Blade Runner (1982)...
Incomparably magnificent.
This was thought provoking.
God Rutger is such an underrated actor. He is phenomenal in everything sci-fi he touches. If you're not familiar with his work on the TV show Lexx, I suggest looking up clips he is amazing in his little time he did on that. Also I'm pretty sure as a kid one of my favorite movies was always split second.
My favorite Rutger Hauer film is, and always will be, Ladyhawk.
Aw yeah! Bog is the king of Pattern!
@@greenaum he's not sad that he's gonna die, he's sad cause he knows he can't have anymore pattern
He was amazing on LEXX. Such a brutal, creepy episode.
Absolutely phenomenal movie.
This was a great short and you had the great privilege to work with Rutger. This is what sci fi is really all about not that star wars crap. 1000 thumbs up
RIP Rutger Hauer! ❤️😢
Hello👋
How right, we are just a collection of memories, all too easily lost like tears in the rain.
Rutger Hauer R.I.P. Great Actor!
This is so appropriate for Rutger Hauer, as similar questions of existence and memory were posed in Blade Runner by Roy Batty and the other replicants. "Did you get your precious photos?" I love this type of existential examination, and it's so good to see Rutger again. What a treat!
Yeah.... was thinking the same. Being self aware has drawbacks.
also imagine Rutger developing the whole transference process fueled by coffee and toffee, basicly coffee and sugar like the cop char Harley Stone he played in "split second" to preserve his partner :O
Yes he's one of my favorites
This is similar to an old episode of the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. They had invented teleportation. What they didnt realize was it digitized you and created an exact copy (including all memories) at the other end as opposed to actually transporting you. By the time you realize what's really happening it's too late.
Evil magician?
And how could you ever know the difference?
@@edbouhl3100 Well the newly created copy would never know. But the creators of the technology would either know or, in the case of the episode I'm thinking of, they would figure it out and then have to wrestle with the ethics. In a different OL episode on this subject, an insider misuses the tech to create a copy of his wife after she gets badly injured and ends up in a deep coma. Surprise, she recovers and now there are two. What to do. I think that episode was called Think Like a Dinosaur.
wow .. really love the music .. good stuff ..
It’s kinda odd that he waited until the day of surgery to ask the important questions 🤨
With the whole shut him down thing and the brain tumor maybe its not the first time theyve done this. Maybe the tumor is the cause of his absurdly high iq. So it has to be copied to his clone and the clone like the original body doesnt last long. Also theres no way they let someone with over 400iq to die even if it means doing this. Unethical sure but the advances hes making in his field are certainly unmatched.
right?
Blind Fury was always one of my favorites.
The good ones always make me cry. Rutgwer Hauer merely showed-up, Mr. Freeman killed it.
I literally clicked on this for Rutger Hauers name alone. So glad I did. Great work here!
Wish this could be made into a full film. Thanx.
WOW. Excellent and impressive. Thank You
There's a thing called patient consent and preparation but I guess this area of space doesn't fall under that jurisdiction. :)
I was expecting Hauer to start singing about "Pattern".
I love these shorts, they actually give more meaning than the large 2 hour films.
The last…of the great Rutger Hauer…if….we could only…..have cloned……………..him! 😔
welcome back mr hauer to the age of the virtual clones...you are the first.
This needs to become a hit movie. The graphics, acting, directing all of it was so well brought together I loved this! Definitely a favorite!
Excellent! Bravo!
How many times has this same philosphical question been raised in sci-fi stories about transporters?
THE PHILOSOPHICAL QUESTIONS ARE MIND-BLOWING
WOW! That was really good and having Rutger Hauer playing in it just took it to a whole other level.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. Wonderful sci-fi films continue. Thanks.
Thank you for this little film, and for the chance to see Rutger Hauer one more time.
Hello👋
I had largely ignored this channel until I saw Rutger Hauer starring, but I’ve subscribed taking it more seriously now.😊
you'd think he would have considered these ethical dilemnas before signing up for brain transfer surgery tbh
Uhhnazin
Missed watching Rutger Hauer again
I grew up on his vhs movies all Excellent
I was thinking shouldn't Mr. Freeman's proper title be Doctor, and be addressed as Dr. Freeman? A Physics Professor would have a PhD.
Rutger probably thinks of "doctor" as a job description (his own and his colleagues'), and if Freeman has earned the title "professor", it's perfectly appropriate to use it, especially if it avoids confusion.
In the Navy, a Marine Corps captain riding on a ship will often be called "major" by the crew, as Navy tradition says there's only one captain on a ship.
Rutger the Legendary Roy Batty..."I've seen things...
What a great actor he was. Whenever he's delivering some heavy lines I'm just fixed on the screen in total emersion. Brilliant.
Also I just watched this in bed and now I'm scared to fall asleep incase he's right. 😆
EXCELLENT!!!! Mr Hauer made it!!!!!
Rutger delivered the last and best line again, miss him. This was good, especially the actor in the chair. The techno-babble bit "taking down the mainframe" etc was a bit meh, but overall great.

Excellent!
Rutger Hauer. He's the reason I watched this film. An amazing actor! Thank you everyone who made his role possible. I would like to see a behind the scenes look at how he was brought into this project and any comments he has to share. This was a really big deal and a great surprise! It just seems there should be a little more in the making to top it off. That said, this was a great film. The director and cast did an excellent job in bringing the characters to life and making the story believable. Set design, tech, lighting, special effects, camera angles. It's all there and it's all incredibly good! Thank you Dust!
I was like "Rutger I haven't seen?!?!?". Been a fan since I saw "Nighthawks" when I as a kid. Always wanted to see him and Greg Henry in a movie together.
Also - iirc, Rutger was the kind of actor who would take any role that paid, just to be acting, kind of like Walken. And like Walken, always gave his all.
