The sound design alone just made this whole short feel so real and grounded. Amazingly grotesque and crunchy!

At the point when the woman was leaving the table & she dragged a fingernail along the bug's back, I distinctly heard the scraping noise too. Attention to detail.
True... made them bugs feel even more out of place, scarier... I was expecting some screeching the whole time, honestly.

Actually, NOT so "dumb & goofy." More like a "fictional characterization" of the GENUINE BEHAVIORS and activities of the psychopathic elitist NON-HUMAN filth currently manipulating, deceiving, torturing and enslaving humanity.
The attending personal slaves in this "short film" and their "righteous, calmly rebellious retaliation" is EXACTLY how things should be done to keep the people from suffering even more horrific abuse at the vile whims of these monsters.

Close up on the bugs, moving around the table during the bug conversation was really nice. Subtle facial expressions on the people too hinting at a certain revulsion or dislike. And the chopping, cracking squelching. Giving the blender a wack sold it for me.
The French Resistance allegory is so well done. And it becomes even more unsettling when you realize that those could very well be human soldiers in another context.
In war, the ability to dehumanize your enemy is often essential to victory, but the costs are high.
Dehuminizing you enemy comes without costs mate. The only cost is the production of propaganda

Best animated short I’ve seen here this year. I love the alien-bug designs and the carapace clicks and crunch sounds whenever they move; its both well done and disturbingly creepy.

My only gripe is that bugs would most likely find us as unattractive and unappealing disgusting as we find them.
But it could be one of those exotic twisted kinks the ruling elites have being demoed here, things like Beastiality and pederasty which were exposed in the Epstein case. So I can buy that the bugs despite looking down on us would still engage in "forbidden" delectable acts with us.

Great short! Reminded me of Nazi's being tricked into a dinner just to be killed by resistance fighters one by one but with the "cockroaches will inherit the earth" theme. Loved it.

The title, "Resistance" defines who the good guys and bad guys are. With a different title, the resistance fighters could have been the bad guys, murdering some innocent bugs having a night out on the town.

As the saying goes, one person's freedom-fighter is another person's terrorist. For all we know, the giant bugs in this video could have been taking a well-earned break from saving humanity from its own idiocies, and the three humans are xenophobic asshats who previously hated humans with a different skin colour or religion, and now are killing aliens in gruesome ways because they get their rocks off on that.
Résistance is in French, the bugs are clearly nazis or at least german officers.
The title is here to deceive us; we're clearly shown that average people can do fiendish things when they dehumanize others, the resistance fighters and the bugs are the bad guys,
it's just that we're not shown the evil the bugs do on a daily basis. Anyway the message is that everyone can be evil and there's no thing a human wouldn't do if brainwashed or motivated enough

@@acecharmer418 Dude, don't take my comment too seriously. My comment was like the reverse Disney stories told through the eyes of the villain, where they make themselves out to be the victims. I wasn't seriously defending the bugs. (I also don't think bugs would be sexually attracted to mammals, but that's another line of discussion.)

I loved the opening scene which looked so much like the room Dave Bowman finds himself in at the end of "2001 A Space Odyssey". The short films Dust provides are so thought provoking! Love this channel.

If you hadn't grabbed my attention with the very Kubrick-esque opening shots, you had me when the giant insects came in! Marvelous. Great story, the actual characters themselves were awesome. This was top-notch!!! Even the sound was spot on. Excellent insect click and crunch noises, and not a single word spoken! Brilliant. THAT'S how you tell a story.

Or you could interpret it in a more metaphoric way. The insects are the elites ruling over the small people. They are cold blooded, hard, show just as much greed and voraciousness as the common man; despite the elitist etiquette which they will drop when amongst themselfes anyway and living in a world and speaking in a language that look and sound downright alien to the average man.
Those elites see the common man as a means to an end, as either a tool that can be ignored as long as it serves its purpose, like the waiter for instance or as a means to satisfy their appetites, like the lady, having them at their command as they please. While being all too ignorant and oblivious about the fact that in the end, they are at the mercy of the very people they look down on.

No, this is a story about the current narrative in the world. Well told and hopefully more people will understand and see beyond the visual.
Everything was superbly created and "executed"! Right down to the scene being offered by the reflection off the knives on the wall. Every detail was perfect. I can't praise this short enough. Very well done!

Me too. It’s hard to pull it off without expressive faces but it was done by other moments and sounds. They did a stellar job with keeping them creepy yet hold some distorted humanity.
THIS is what short films are all about - great sound design really selling the fantastic animation. Easy to follow, no dialogue lesson in shot selection and editing. Cheers to those who made this.
This short should definitely be on Netflix's anthology series Love,Death & Robots

Definitely not something for people with a fear of bugs, but the metaphor is of course absolutely accurate. A brilliant piece!
More intrigue, atmosphere and tightly-paced storytelling than most major blockbusters achieve in hours with unlimited budgets. Amazing!

I was reminded of occupied France and what the French Resistance did during that time.
This is so symbolic that it allows many interpretations. In some slangs, bugs mean tycoons, so the reference to totalitarianism in the film's description makes one think that democracy, with such an actual inequality, is just a brand of perfume or wine. And this is such a laconic art that it looks more like slogans on the barricades.
WOW. I literally gasped at the title credit at the end. Résistance! Amazing, perfect, brilliant.

The waiter was like the waiter in the Monty Python skit with the exploding man. Loved the use of cockroaches.
Lol. This was good, the little things like hitting the blender to get the head farther down made me laugh.
Incredibly well done. The 3D models and rendering are absolutely spot on, as good as any high end production studio animation I've ever seen, rendered together with a, well, unique story. I enjoy most of the productions that DUST selects for presentation, but every so often they select a truly spectacular example of the artform . . . this is one of those examples.
Couldn't help thinking about the Garthim from "DarkCrystal". excellent short.

I'm always amazed how the plot is still interesting even if there is no dialog between the characters.
Very original and cinematically, it's a great short movie, without dialog, conveying a lot of emotions and power. Really well done!

The short film actually tells a quite straightforward story. Unfortunately I did not read the backstory before watching it.
When the bugs entered the room the first thing that came to my mind was Kafka's Metamorphosis; A story about a man who one morning finds himself transformed into a giant bug.
The story goes on to tell his ill fate and how he is despised and hated because of his ugly and dehumanized shape. Of course the Film's actually intended story line soon became obvious and that's what made it quite confusing: Part of me felt for the poor murdered insects while at the same time I hoped that the heroic humans would prevail.
Note to myself: Always read the video description before watching a Dust short. ;)
if you have to read the description first to watch something, it's not a good film.

Using Beethoven's 9th, second movement was absolutely brilliant and using the concept of a resistance movement was as well ., was this on Earth or another planet that humans were inhabiting at the time and this was resistance against the invading Force? So many questions there needs to be a part 2

As this is a French production titled 'Resistance' and the description mentions domination by a totalitarian regime, I have my own views on the basis for the story.

The fact that the "femme fatale" is Asian and the fact that she reveals close-cropped hair at the end shouldn't be overlooked, I think.

Maybe we were influenced by the asian aesthetic to create the "femme fatale" but the goal was'nt to give origin to this character. She just represents humanity. When she shows off her real hair we wanted to show off her double play. Like an actress after a show, she changes her appearance after having seduced her audience and becomes herself again.

And during the war, female "collaborators" had their heads shaved in Italy and I think France too. Some in the underground got this treatment because they played their roles too well. I think too much! 😆

I liked the obvious metaphor & the fact that this can be interpreted in countless ways. The insect design & details are impressive. However I would have preferred if the bugs where able to put up just a tiny bit of resistance themselves ;) & if the general bug where served to his officer bugs, before they were killed too.
Great short and totally thumbs up, but why would giant insectoids have ANY sexual interest in mammalian female physiology?
Let me answer your questions with another. Why do humans seek fetishes with other creatures?
The Insectoids could be representive of Nazi SS officer's dining in some French or Polish restaurant during WW2 🤔

They made disgusting act appear acceptable by showing targets of violence as bugs. Basically dehumanizing them as much as possible.
One of the best short films I've seen. A quirky and original story backed up by amazing animation, and the sound was incredible.

Distracted by luxury, lust, gluttony, and overconfident in the effect of their control . . . they got lazy, and laziness means relying on others to do the work i.e. providing a window of opportunity.
They have the "Gravity gauge". They can drop big rocks anytime they like. Eventually, the string of outrages fosters a "go ahead, we don't care anymore." attitude on the part of the humans.

There was a Japanese man dated a cockroah he named Lisa for 2 years. Sentient bugs might have similar fetishs. At least we would hope bugs would need intelligence to become kinky.
They symbolically depicted as cockroaches.. probably they are just Nazi officers.
Cockroaches (& most if not all other bugs) would find human meat attractive as another meal...In this case, they were probably thinking "desert."
