Olympus has been killing it this year with the Em5 III, Em1 III, and now this Em10 IV. It's sad to see them leave the photography business but at least they're giving us a strong farewell. This Em10 IV looks like the perfect companion to my Em1 III. Excellent camera!
I couldn't agree more. I take my Em1 Mk III everywhere and the Em10 IV would be a perfect companion for casual outings. This looks like a excellent camera.
I just bought the camera to replace my old Canon G11. Great pocket camera! Love it, but there is one issue: sync-speed in combination with Godox Xpro transmitter. I only get 1/160 sec as fastest sync.speed! To get 1/250 I have to use HSS, and loss of flash power. The XproO has no choice for setting single contact mode. (It works fine with Godox X1N for Nikon when using single contact mode.) Have you tested this combo?
I like my all metal constructed E-M10 mk 1 but the updated AF has got me interested. How good is the Face/Eye in tracking mode? I have the Lumix Leica 25mm F1.4 with the shallow DOF you need it grab focus on the pupil.
How do you program your EM10-IV camera body so you can adjust the 14-42 zoom lens by using the arrow keys on the back of the camera body? I keep trying to fiddle around with my camera but I can't figure out how to accomplish this.
Can we change the settings and operate the camera through touchscreen like the Fujifilm xt 200a...and between these two which is better for photography?
One of the things that annoyed me about the EM10 MkIII was that silent shooting is not available except in AP mode, and I know many other users complained as well? It WAS available in all modes in the MkII. Including it in AP seems like a backwards move to me.
Great video and looks like a worthy upgrade, Gavin, but if you can please tell Olympus the in-body panorama stitching and adjustable art filter features really need to be added to the E-M5 iii too. Cheers 🙂
I understand it’s a fun camera for beginners but how easy is it to quickly change manual settings for more advanced users? I currently own a Sony but by the time I go through the menus to change settings I usually end up missing the shot.
Very easy indeed. It has twin dials to change the most common settings such as aperture and shutter speed, and the touchscreen "Super control panel" (SCP) can be called up using one of the "Fn" buttons, which then gives you fast touch access to almost all of the other shooting parameters
So many critics on here. Some people forget Olympus make good cameras for photography. Not everyone likes to vlog. Sony is sometimes a bit too expensive, but some of their colors are more realistic. It seems Canon just has a better marketing team than Sony and Olympus. Olympus is still good in the Asian market. Cell phone cameras took over the general consumer market. I like cameras. The main reasons to buy a camera are for zoom and prime lenses. It really depends on what the individual needs.
The one point everyone seems to be side stepping is the body material. Is it plastic as is now the 5.3 or does it maintain it's metal body? Since it is supposedly lighter, one would assume it is now plastic. For me, that means looking elsewhere since plastic isn't even a consideration, especially with the 5.3's propensity to break around the tripod mount.
It's plastic but good, strong plastic. It does feel somewhat "hollow" though, the Mk II feels so much more substantial. Nothing wrong with using plastic, even aircraft manufacturers are using it for structural parts these days
I normally skip new camera review videos since I'm poor and a Nikon die hard but I saw that Walking Dead esq still and had to give it a watch. Lots of fun!
Thanks for the comment. I don't own a Sony to be able to compare but in my real world testing, the Olympus EM10-IV did a great job and felt nice and snappy even with the basic kit lens I was using.
Simply no. The Sony A6100 costs 600 bucks and has more than 2.5 stops iso advantage over the Oly. Sony has 425+425 pdaf+cdaf points. Class leading. Sony also does 14bit raws.
I agree Christopher, maybe Olympus has tuned to microphone set up for bloggers. I didn't do any audio editing or even make any effort to adjust the default camera settings. Talk about being lazy 😉
I can't fathom why they don't put a mic port on these e-M10's. The video specs are pretty decent but this seems like an unnecessary handicap (many 'entry level' cameras have one of these as standard). This type of thing is probably why they couldn't make their business profitable - it certainly lost them my money and handed it to Panasonic and Canon.
a great vlogging camera you say Gavin? how is that, the screen flips down so when vloggers put their little tripod on what exactly you gonna see, i do not understand at the design stage why certain cameras has this tilt feature its totally useless. there is only one way to go and that is the canon articulated screen you cant go wrong with it, this is why i will always keep my canon 600D its still an amazing lightweight camera. I certainly wont be upgrading my Olympus OM-D E-M 10 MKII, not a chance. its gathering dust in a drawer.
I get what you're saying about the flip screen direction and tripods, but then I also know street photographers who passionately hate fold out screens. I guess the perfect camera for absolutely every photographer has yet to be invented 😉
Isn't Olympus sold and dead??? :D This one is not my cup of tea (or better coffee), I am somewhere between Om1x/Om1/om5 BUT it is quite interesting as a backup camera.
Apparently no one's told Olympus that they're supposed to be dead 😂 This isn't aimed at your photography needs (or mine for that matter) but I agree it would make an excellent budget back-up body.
Companies get brought and sold, that's how business goes. I don't know what the future holds for Olympus but I do know they have a plan and today that plan is to release some a new camera and lens.

Looked like a fun photoshoot! Thanks for showing us the new camera. Love that Olympus is still innovating.
Thanks ED. Considering how tricky it is to organise short notice location shoots right now, this one went surprisingly well from my point of view to 😁
A HUGE improvement over the MKIII. It's an amazing entry-level camera. The eye focus works great!!!
Hi Ed. Yes, the AF is noticeably better and that's great to see.
Excellent review, altough the camera is entry level with the 100-400mm shows all its potential.
Greetings from 🇮🇹
I love my Em1 Mk3, but this Em10 Mk4 would be a great back up camera!

Gavin, i think you are the most informative blogger (is that the right terminology)on u-tube. Thanks.
Nice seeing this from Olympus. I’m not a fan of the body, but definitely something worth trying out for beginners

Glad to Olympus still getting some love 💕 looks like a cracking little 📸
Nice review fab pics, even the panorama looked great, Rich
Really enjoyed this video. I'm looking forward to upgrading from the II to this one. I do enjoy these fun and convenient cameras :)

Hi Ben. The EM-10 IV has silent shooting on P,A,S and M modes as well as AP mode 😁
Great video and looks like a worthy upgrade, Gavin, but if you can please tell Olympus the in-body panorama stitching and adjustable art filter features really need to be added to the E-M5 iii too. Cheers 🙂
I'll pass that on Izuan, thanks for the comment 👍
@@GavinHoey you've made my day, Gavin. Thank you!
This looks better than I originally thought. In particular the improved continuous af which has always been really poor on the previous versions.
Thanks for the comment Steven, the AF surprised me too!

In 4k video mode, does it use face-detect focus? Thanks
any suggestions on video settings
A new EM10? Awesome!
and Olympus is offering a free kit with purchase with case, memory card and extra battery.
How you put it on self mode to
I can get mark 3 for $300 cheaper.. Would you recommend spending extra$300 on mark 4

24mm is a bit too tight for vlogging in my humble and correct opinion. (Thanks for the great review!)
Has it 4k photo as gx9? Thank you
Looks like it time to update my EM10 Mark 1
I normally skip new camera review videos since I'm poor and a Nikon die hard but I saw that Walking Dead esq still and had to give it a watch. Lots of fun!
Thanks for the watch and the comment Dylan. The walking dead, that's what went through my mind as we were shooting 😎
Excellent video - many thanks 👍
Is there autofocus as good as sony? I am considering to buy this and autofocus and dynamic range is my priority.

DeepteshLovesTECH and no IBIS more expensive glass
Love the video
Thanks Kirsty, it was a fun shoot at a great location. There's an outside chance we might get the Olympus UK Cla(i)res to go live from there 😳
@@GavinHoey your welcome

whaaaaaat??!?!?!? just as i was thinking of jumping ship.
Well there you go. Olympus is full of surprises 😉
She's pretty! The camera looks nice too :)
Nice & Thanks :)
Seems like an excellent step up from cell phones to a real camera.
The microphone doesn’t sound too bad.

@@GavinHoey He's just a troll lol.
I thought Olympus called it quits.
Not quite. They'll have a new owner later this year with plans to drive the business forward.
Interesting that you are now doubling down on Olympus despite the risks. The company has been sold to an investment firm.

the model is left-handed just sayin
Why anyone would use Olympus in 2020 is beyond me. So many better options out there.
No real gun? 😝
