That was a very helpful video Peter. I got the EM10 Mk IV for travel, using it with my 12-40 f2.8 Pro Mk I. The past year has been very difficult for me with the result that I didn’t touch my camera (EM1 Mk II) for a year. I’m now retired so have more time for photography and am hoping that getting used to the EM10 Mk IV will encourage me to get out there and make some images!
This is my first camera and I’m going to Egypt next month.Please tell me how to set up the best settings for taking pictures of pyramids. Thank you! (And I bought another lens ed40-150mm besides the ed14-42mm)
Hi Peter, I have upgraded from the Olympus TG6 to the OM-D E-M10 Mark IV. With the TG6 I could pre set the focus to follow a subject on video by half depressing the shutter button to focus, hold the focus and press OK at the same time, then the focus holds when you press the video start button. The camera will then maintain focus on a moving target as long as the focal distance does not change. I have looked through the manual for the OM-D E-M10 Mark IV and do not see that option. Is there a way to pre set focus to shoot video?

Not having custom sets is very strange. Even my LX5 from 2010 has custom sets. Maybe Olympus can add them in a firmware upgrade? They should.
I just purchased this camera with12-42 lens. What lens should I up grade?

I am very pleased to hear that you mention "My settings" as a shortcoming in the new MARK IV. I hope that OLYMPUS will follow up on your comment. This is preventing me from switching cameras. Greetings from Belgium.
understand that after a while you will no longer know which settings you have entered under your different settings. I can give you a tip on how to solve that. Choose one of your settings (open) and press the info button. This way you get an overview of how you ever set it up. Do this for each setting

Hi Peter. Thank you for this nice and helpfull video. Is it possible to set minimum shutter speed for auto ISO (i.e 1/250 in A mode for fast moving subjects)? Another question : is it possible to change raw files in jpegs in camera or it should be done using external programms? Thanks in advance.
No if I remember correctly you cannot set the shutter speed limits when using AutoISO. Yes you can convert raw to jpg in camera.

I noticed in your video in the setup menu your Bluetooth setting shows running, in my camera shows stopped( I am not able to change it)

Nice gift from Santa! You need to turn it form the Setup menu. Wi-Fi/Bluetooth > Bluetooth On. If you are not transferring your images to your mobile, no need to have the Bluetooth on.
They should store custom settings in the smartphone app if not the camera. Think outside the box Olympus!
Hi: I have an EM-10 Mark II. The Mark II does have a Myset function. Am I understanding correctly that in the MarkIV the Mysets are gone ?
Yes, no Mysets on E-M10 MKIV.

What particular setting you mean?
I think the lack of my set is a big oversight as well. Not everyone using a small camera is a begginer. Im also disappointed with the lack of firmware updates for this camera. I was hoping they would add the small af point again like in the mark 2.
Mysets would add some more (a lot) to this camera.
Hi Peter, Good tutorial on best camera settings. I have a questions on the copyright setting under Edit Name, how do I delete a space or word as there is no backspace or delete key. Also how do I add the copyrighted sign in front of the name?
Use the garbage button. Copyright sign is not possible.
How do you adjust the contrast on the Mark lV Camera? Too often the highlights are all white with no color at all. Smaller aperture settings help. but I hate using F22 all the time.
You can also adjust the shutter speed. Look at the histogram to see if the exposure is ok. I have a bunch of videos about exposure that might help: ruclips.net/p/PLDi4hF9-cy6gHucRXGhcdj6d45lsr4T0J
I have a quick question for you. My daughter wants to shoot some low-key portraits and I know the old way setting iso to 200 or low and close the lens all the way down and take a shot and it should now be all black. Now all you need to do is control the flash power and take your picture. however olyumpus has a Low Key Scene and there is no way in the world that I can figure it put how to work. Any suggestions. The Camera is EM10

It is more about the light than the Low key setting in camera. Take a look at Yosuf Karsh and Victor Skrebneski. They both have made some remarkable lowkey portraits. Also the old Hollywood actor portrait style is something to look for.

If you need a new camera, yes. E-M10 KMIV is much better than E-10 MKIII.
Peter, these are the settings I got off your video to set for RAW images: In Picture Mode: Choose Muted, then set contrast and saturation to -2, C1Info settings, Info, check Image Only, Overall, Highlights and Shadows, then go back to Info settings & select option 2 LV-Info tick Custom 1, the little picture, Highlights and Shadows, go to F & Set Warm Colour Off, Colour Space choose Adobe RGB. Is this correct because when I download the photos they download as JPEGs in Photos and in Lightroom. Please help.
Have you set the picture quality to RAW?
I don’t see how to set the mark IV to RAW. I’ve been through all the settings and there is nothing that says raw.

- at today (may 2024), any new firmware update for the em10 mark4 which adds the “Mysets” option to store the favourite camera settings?…
- I like to shoot mainly black and white, could you please suggest me how to set both the evf and display so that I look at the scene I want to capture always in b&w? Also, is there in the camera a dedicated b & w mode or a setting that I can tweak for this purpose?

Unfortunately there is aonly one firmware update for E-M10 Mark IV. That is about some minor tweeks about Single Point AF. Both, EVF and LCD, should show black & white image if you use Monochrome Picture Profile. OM System does not have a dedicated B&W camera. Most likely the best options are Pen-F and E-P7.

Regarding the firmware update I have v 1.1 on my em10 mark IV, but maybe in the future at the new OM company they could decide to make a new one, who knows... Or they make directly a new OM 10 mark V?...🤔🙂
Which class of SD card is best for the EM10 Mark iv? Can it take advantage of the UHS II cards? Is the price differential for those cards worth it?
For video there is a difference, but not really any difference when photographing.
If you going to shoot continues raw u need better card , for example kids plaing football u will need to shoot siries to ovecome bad focus (uhs2) else no matter
I just got this camera and the picture mode setting you tell us to choose from in the beginning is greyed out and not available for me to select. any reason why?
You propably have it on iAuto. Switch to P, A, S or M.

If you are just starting out photography I recommend using the P-mode. That is the easiest way to photograph and have not to worry about the photography that much. More time to enjoy the views.

Unfortunately E-M10 KMIV does not support L-Fn button.
Hello, thanx for the great overview. I have the omd em 10 mk4. I had the older model before. There I was able to switch of the beeping and also switch to jpeg + raw. Now it only saves jpeg. I can not find those 2 setting options anymore in the actual firmware. Can you help me finding it?

OI.sahre app works as a remote shutter. Check the user manual on page 142.

Mirrorless is a better choice in my opinion. Is it E-M10 Mark IV or something else is another question.
Peter would you sell your 1.8 primes 17, 25 and 45mm to get the 12-45 f4 pro lens?
Why would you downgrade that much? If you want a zoom at least get the 12-40 2.8

I think he would pick primes for some tasks and zoom for others. For a vacation trip 12-45 would be so much better but for a portrait photoshoot the primes would work better. In a long run you want all 4 of them in the inventory.
dominiking32 Firstly I already have the 12-40 f2.8 pro, secondly its much easier to carry one lens than 3 and I wanted to see just how much he liked the 12-45 pro

Beep is the first thing I turn off on a new camera.
What is a nice travel camera (system) not from Olympus per se with auto focus bracketing too ! The big disadvantage of Olympus which HAS to support to auto focus bracketing / stacking which are REALLY expensive and quite rare to find.

I know this is an old video but, is anyone else bummed out that regular 4/3 lens work only in manual focus mode. WTF is up with that? I started with the 510 and bought many lens. (Yes I'm a lens horder) Then updated to the OMD m2 which uses the 4/3 lens perfectly with the adapter. (nearly went broke buying adapters for all the lenses) Now I notice that the mk4 won't autofocus with them. Can anyone show me otherwise?

I shoot Jpg at the shittiest quality since I shoot raw + jpg and the jpgs are just backup
I wish that you spent much more time on the settings for RAW or made a separate video for RAW settings. The few seconds for RAW at the end of the video aren't very helpful and are actually confusing.
I know that these settings videos are a bit too fast. It is hard to make a good compromise between length and info.

Sorry to hear this. These settings videos are quite hard to make. It would be too long of a video if I stopped for every setting. Stopping and rewinding the video could be one solution. It might not be so convinient.
