  • In 2021, all six World Marathon Majors were moved to the fall. Retired pro Shalane Flanagan used this rare opportunity to attempt to complete all six.
She began with the Berlin Marathon on September 26, clocking a 2:38:32. Flanagan finished the London Marathon in 2:35:04 one week later.
The next week was the double of Chicago (2:46:39) and Boston (2:40:36). She’d raced Boston five times before but never got to fully enjoy her hometown race. Flanagan recorded a 2:35:14 in Portland, Oregon, to make up for canceled Tokyo. She finished her “Project Eclipse” with a 2:33:32 in New York City. Flanagan is now a coach for the Bowerman Track Club.

If one of her goals was to inspire people to run more, she succeeded! I'm happy to see that she continues to enjoy running in her retirement.

Enjoying the running and usually racing lifestyle is a gift but just running for the love of running is a tribute...of putting it all together. Maybe on her bucket list but she will continue to run no doubt!
