- Music from Australia and New Zealand in the year 1963:
The Bee Gees performing 'I Want You To Want Me' on the TCN-9 program Bandstand - broadcasted on the 7th of September 1963.
Note: The Bee Gees were British migrants that had started their career in their homeland. However, like many British-born performers (Billy Thorpe, Olivia Newton John, Frank Ifield; to name a few), the Bee Gees became a household name in Australia prior to international success.
Note: Bandstand, was an Australian musical/variety television show which screened from November 1958 to 1972. It was produced at the studios of TCN-9 in Sydney and eventually became a national program as Nine Network expanded into other Australian cities in the early 1960s and was hosted by Brian Henderson. Later shows from the mid 70's was hosted by Daryl Somers.

An that is so sad
I believe you meant to say he's the only one Staying Alive
Only the good die young!
Rob always makes me smile!
IT WAS FORETOLD.
"IN THE END, THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE"
It's so hard to believe these 3 are the same 3 that sang Staying alive.
Wow.
lol 😂
Everything changed so drastically from the 50s to the 70s
Yeah, I love this, it's so wonderfully awkward, I mean in a good way! :)
Or had those beautiful blended harmonies before moving to disco.
Just 14 years later
I can't get over how nerdy and geeky they and those teeth 🦷🦷🦷🦷😀👍😀🇬🇧
All of the billions of dollars, and they never fixed their teeth 🤷🤦
I think their Dad had big teeth.
🤣
And nobody cared back then, because that was the norm.
Teeth are so genetic.
Was I the only one expecting the Bee Gees did the original version of a Cheap Trick song?
no you werent. and i am not only disappointed but a little frightened
yep, got me too lol
Yep, but I'm glad Cheap Trick isn't tainted by these proto then anti-rockers.
@@peaceonearth8693 Would have made a Cheap Trick cover cooler if they'd had to dig their version out of an original with a stuttering falsetto croon. "I wa-a-a-ant you-ou to wa-a-a-ant me-hee-hee; I nee-hee-hee-d you-ou to nee-hee-hee-d me-hee-hee".
I think the members of Cheap Trick were still filling their diapers when the BeeGees made this!!
The Bee Gees deserve far more credit than they get. They existed through several eras of music and successfully adapted to each one. Unfortunately they kinda get stereotyped to the disco era but they were so much more than that. The only thing that could have made them better is if they had done grunge music in the 90’s.
"Far more credit"? The Bee Gees are world renowned bro. Internationally famous.
I'm forever the BeeGees fan!
how could you be a fan of them after seeing this?
Im sorry but this has turned me off everything they've done ever
@@drt162 To each his own.
@@drt162 They took any gig they could get. They worked hard to make a name for themselves, and they eventually succeeded. Again and again and again.
The blending of their voice at their very young age. They obviously steal the show but there's something about Robin which outshines his brothers on this performance. His confidence, charm & charisma. I can't take my eyes off of him.♥️ The way he looks at the camera.♥️💞 It's Priceless.💖 They deserve to be given the break they were given. They made the most out of it. Well deserved.♥️💖♥️💖♥️💞💞
. . or from another perspective, it's just creepy.
My family sounds pretty good when we sing together too because like voices blend easily. Just none of us lacked enough self-respect to sport that pompadour hairdo.
I agree. When a youngster he did outshine his brothers. I think he was made to do musicals too.
How can you mend a broken heart! Smile an everlasting smile! I started a joke! All their disco songs! Great writers!!
So love the older era, where people did not have to have perfect teeth and had heart and really, more character and respect for others. Love, love.
By 1963 they were fairly big in Australia and had cultured a kind of more polished image.
Look at the earliest performance of them from 1960 here on RUclips and you'll see how much they changed.
Back then they actually looked like ordinary kids, a lot more than here, with hairstylists makeup and designer gear
How lucky were the osmonds tho...perfection just naturally... I just can't help being distracted by their teeth...etc...
Back when men beat their wives and people were racist, beat their kids into submission, and we're closed minded. No thanks! Glad those years are gone!
Now today, I can watch videos like this that didn't show on te 3 TV channels people had bad then. And how could you see how white people's teeth were with a crappy black and white TV?
The “respect” for others was a bit questionable during that era on the greater scale of things.
that excited shout from one of teen fan at the beginning😂
Such confidence by Robin! You can tell he is digging every minute of it!
Agreed
He did look like a complete goon, though, regrettably.
Their voices were deeper as kids.
They had balls then?
@@dixonbidenzmouth4115 😐
Maurices wasnt maurices got deeper
Those jackets were so short waisted. .....cute. With the skinny ties. These nostalgic clips are precious
And I remember those shoes boots.........everyone wore them
Probably the greatest song writing, singer group in music history. They have 100 of their songs in the list of pop music’s most popular songs. ! How great is thst .
I doubt that
@@JackDavenport-e3j They have written well over 100 number one hit songs (there's a video of them) but the total counts the same song in different territories, the same song reaching number 1 in Australia, the US, and the UK was counted as 3 number ones. Still, it's an impressive record, very few acts get anywhere close to that.
And those 3 kids went on to be one of the best bands ever! Absolute legends! R.I.P Robin and Maurice
These guys were part of so many different eras in pop music. From early '60s doo-wop to late-'60s flower pop, to disco, to using synths in the '80s. They had their last hit in the late '90s, for crying out loud! They went out of style a lot, but then had a lot of comebacks. Having good songs will eventually convince people to let you back in. Only death could finally stop this band, sadly.
I love these men. They are quite a group. 50’s,60’s,70’s,80’s 90’’2000’s up to the present. Can a one imagine this?
Yeah it was back in 2012 that I heard Robin had passed away gosh I wish I met him before that
12 years later they recorded Jive Talking, a masterpiece.
I Love brasil
When The Bee Gees were touring they sent a trunk via air to Key West Airport to me to change the heel bases on their boots from straight to more like a cowboys pitch. I was told one pair were very special, and I later found out that one pair were John Lennons boots wore in Hard Days Night, that John took off at party and gave to Maurice shortly before John was murdered.Apparently, I'm told, Maurice liked Johns boots. I kept the heel bases, not knowing but.....Oh my claim to fame HAHAHA. But Maurice later sent me a pic of him in the very boots after I changed the bases. Next year they sent another trunk full off boots to change for the next tour..I'm a retired shoe cobbler and one of my greatest memories of being a female cobbler for 30 years was all of this...
Very cool, Pamela!
Awesome story. Do you still have those heels?
Wow! Very unique experience I must say. I'm curious. If you read this later. Let me ask you:
How did they know/find out about you, to hire you to take care of their boots?
They must have received a very high recommendation from someone to get in touch with you; to do their boots for them.
Great story.
wow... amazing
Thanks for sharing that - very cool!
No way on Earth I would have thought they would have made it big.
perseverance
Lots of bands had those kinds of songs in that early 60s, pre-Beatlemania era. .Reminds me of Gerry and the Pacemakers.
Passion + persistent + faith = greatness
Don’t know the reliability of this, rumor or ?. Thought I read, heard they were about to give it up when they were asked to do Saturday Night Fever. Set me straight if you have the deal on this.
@@petegregory517 SNF was their mega sales but they had many many hits before that. Disco likely saved them as a touring group for many many years.
Sort of the Pre Gees. In a few years they would become an international sensation and their talent would soar.
Robin is the dorkest looking kid but I think he has the most charisma and showmanship out of the three.
You can tell that Robin loves performing. RIP
May God The Father let his soul rest in guidance of lord Jesus Christ Amen.
True but what a tough face to look at.
He may not have been handsome like his brothers, but he makes up for it in enthusiasm. From everything I've heard, Robin was a sweetheart and very likable. When that Saturday Night Fever soundtrack came out, it was all we could talk about. They were SO good!
@@LazyIRanch 'may not have been handsome like his brothers'?! Robin was the most handsome Gibb boy! Those Heavenly brown eyes & that brilliant smile with those adorable crooked teeth.... GAH! How can you _say_ that?! I feel so bad for him, being compared to Barry all his life & never measuring up. IMO Barry & Andy were attractive enough but Robin was sexy & more attractive. Don't take my little rant seriously, I just like to defend him since not many people seemed to when he was alive & I do think he was a gorgeous man. He was an absolute hellion as well!
@@tangibleandroid285 donald trump
Oh my goodness. The super young Robin Gibb. the most gifted angelic voice of this century.
así es!!de pequeñito fue grandioso el dulce Robin...!!!
These dudes had an wild career, from their early beat days like this, rock/psychedelic stuff in the 60’s, funk and pop in the early 70’s then their disco stuff in the late 70’s
It's an absolute MYSTERY how these three ever made it big with a start like this.
Because they were tremendous song writers, harmonists and preformers. Even tying records held by the Beatles that were even respected by the Beatles and even Mo played on Abby Road. You must be new here.
@@williamchiafos3889 The comment had to do with this specific performance. It was absolutely banal, especially in light of the work they would do later.
I agree. Not sure how they made it onstage with a performance like this.
@@johnpatmos1722 mostly agreed
Robin is the most adorable goofy-tooth kid ever.
They were so young and handsome. I barely recognized the tallest brother. He later had a beard and mustache. Also longer hair. He was also a very sexy man.
Com o passar do tempo, a harmonização desse trio beirou a perfeição. Na minha humilde opinião, eles estão entre os melhores de todos os tempos.

Perfeito
Estão, sem sombras de dúvidas.
Robin has the most endearing overbite in history.
Lmao.. that was very endearingly described 😂😂
Could eat an apple thru a chain link fence 😂😊
Robin is born to perform .
And he's so adorable.
Astounding that in a continent the size of Australia only a little more than 10 million people lived there in 1960. That's 2 million more than New York City! And yet to have produced all that talent.
Robin was so sweet. Such a little comedian.
Gott wie niedlich die Mimik heute noch genau so ich liebe💞 die BEEGEES🌹 danke 🗣️🎤🎥🥁🎻
Robin's being cute and always funny was a life long thing. Bless his soul RIP
Karen Kmiecik dont you mean Maurice 🤔
Both of them!
@@judykhan5922 They were practically the comedians of the Bee Gees.
@@aaronsmith5954 - Robin had a biting, clever wit and didn't have to be drunk to use it as Mo often did. Glad Mo got straightened out..
That's why he was my favorite, he seemed the most fun. I love being around witty folks.
holy smokes! another example of success is not an overnight thing. For some reason I thought the band was so good that basically they just came on the scene in the 70's with smash hits out of no where
pretty amazing the transformation these guys went through - they were only four years away from "To Love Somebody" and "New York Mining Disaster 1941"
I never would have guessed that this vocal group would amount to much. 😊
Robin was my favorite. I loved his voice and he was such a little ham when he was young.
He was my favorite too🦋
All these boys wanted to do was entertain Australia with their singing talent, and I think it's absurd that 58 years later, the world is bullying them for their looks. How shallow has the world gotten that not even young boys cannot entertain the world without their looks being criticised.
I am so happy youtube was not around back then. Reading these comments I can only imagine the complex these boys would have developed if reading the rubbish you people are saying about them. We may never hear Staying Alive, Jive Talking, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Island In The Stream, Emotion, I Started A Joke, and all their other wonderful songs.
If youtube was around in the 60's, these boys would probably need therapy.
You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.
The entire comment seciton is just a whole lotta fiddlesticks!
@@desi1641 I could say more than that. It's bullying bullshit.
Social Media,--- built mostly for the comments of the insecure, or the politically biased. Also information supplied that is 90% inaccurate. It's a sham & a mess.
I was going to bully them for their looks, but then I read your scolding reprimand and it made me stop and take a long, hard self-examination. After I did so, I decided instead to bully them for their sound. I wouldn't call what these boys did "entertainment". I only wish RUclips was around back then. Maybe the complex resulting from the comments would have discouraged them and spared us from being exposed to anymore of their noise. Their whiney singing sounds like sick and dying cats. Have a nice day!
@@5thBeatle WELL THANK GOODNESS YOU WEREN'T AROUND IN THE 60's BECAUSE YOU WOULD HAVE RUIEND THE 70'S with your comments! Everybody has to start somewhere and talent doesn't just grow over night. MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE ANOTHER LONG HARD LOOK AT YOURSELF, SIR
Wow those young faces!
Für mich mit die Größten.. vor allem Barry. Wie gut, dass es Zahnärzte gibt.. :-)
Amazing old footage thanks
Barry: In his element.
Robin: Hamming it up.
Maurice: Petrified.
Amazing to see how they went from this to "Staying Alive", "Night Fever", "Alone", "Jive Talkin'", "Tragedy", etc!!
This is strangely addictive to listen to over and over. The video is great for this era
I love Robin. He was a great performer, when he was young. He was gorgeous as he got older. Rest In Peace Rob and Mo. You are truly loved and missed. ❤️🌹❤️

TIFF TIFF HERE LEADING THE BEE GEES ARMY THEY BECAME ICONS WOW THE ORIGINAL BOYS TO MEN ✊🏾
Robin was my favorite. Robin is the first voice of the later sixties. A great voice and a well-known voice and favorite cane from the brothers The Bee Gees. Thank you Robin.
Robin, was so cute, and funny. He knew how to work the cameras. His facial expression were hilarious.
Barry started as a basso profundo and ended up a soprano. Seriously though I love these guys. I got to spend 3 weeks in the studio with them in 1986. One of the finest experiences of my life.
Lucky!!

Is it bad that i love old songs more then modern songs? Im a kid.
I was born 27 years later. Before I watched this video, I have seen clips of the adult Bee Gees and Robin seems so serious that I can't believe he is the bright one in this video. He is so good to watch.
Wow!! That was excellent!
Never seen them this young
Amazing. I didn't know they started so early. This was 14 years before Saturday Night Fever. Amazing.
@toniomiklo2406 They started already in the 50s. All three of them dropped out of school quite early.
"Low wo" and "go wo"
They don't write 'em like that anymore.
Thank God.
Wow. To see how they matured and grew as musicians and world class songwriters is amazing. Thanks for posting this. I'm sure Barry tears up when he sees this.
I am so glad the 70's happened. This is cool to see but the Bee Gee's were way better later on.
Barry 17 yo, Robin and Maurice 14. Barry sure ate his Wheaties.
Wow, they harmonized so well even since they were kids.

I must say that Robin was quite the charmer. I saw some old home movies of he and his family. Even when he was little he was performing for the camera, and very well. What a talent.
The kid in front is quite a showman! He always proves he belongs out in front coloring the performance. He seams to just wrap it up perfectly everytime. 🙏

SPEECHLESS..... in so many ways!
if you told people back then, they would eventually top the charts and be huge during the 1970s, they would look at you like you were crazy and say they won't be around by 1965.
I love the BeeGees more than any boy bands before. But among the siblings, Robin is my favorite till now (RIP).

Since the beginning of their careers they already shone as great stars of world music.
Hi
This is simply fascinating.
Robin's confidence and sense of humor are amazing!
How fun!! They were so young and cute, but already had those fab harmonies going on.
Hello Lesa Beaty, how are you doing?
They were really the fabric of each other’s lives. How can you not? When you are brothers and performers for over 45 years.

Who would've guessed that these guys would've wound up being the musical 'beasts' they became in the 70s, jump-starting the Disco era? They went from here, to the STRATOSPHERE!!
@Fred Forbes They were decent, good people as far as. I know. I can only assume their spirits rest in a better place. Their music effected people in a 'happy', uplifting way. (Not evil). 🌹
@Fred Forbes There are many roads that lead to the same destination, now your question is, did the ones who passed chose the 'right' road? We may never know, but let's just hope that WE do.
@Fred Forbes that is true, Brother.
changed American culture. that is almost hard to wrap your mind around. That is a feat fit for the Gods. Just come across this, didnt even know they were that far back in time. What incredible parents they had, they looked incredibly awkward and not the lady killers they would become, but clearly were happy and very confident, bullies werent able to break them. What a gift for humanity and music. I'm thankful they shared with us. js
@Fred Forbes I heard their souls dwell in "White Mountain National Forest" Maine. But I can't confirm. I haven't checked.
It is something to think this remarably talented family probably never would have gotten a chace today because in their teens they werent particulaly handsome, and in todays materialistic, vanity driven entertainment industry looks are everything. An engineer can take care of musical weaknesses in the recording.
I love old footage of the Bee Gees when they were younger and I think it's just silly things were different back in the 1960's when music was so much different than any decade of music that I had experienced and I never stopped listening to their music or watching RUclips videos on their music videos in black and white or in color
Can't help but smile watching this :)
I love the hairdo’s and short jackets. What a life they had ahead!
The brothers Gibb, truly fantastic singers. Great songs, great musical artists.
They already had amazing stage presence even as kids
After watching this I don't think they have a future in the music industry.... time might prove me wrong...thanks for the video...
Robin was toooo cute. 😍. 3 so young, music and maturity grew into greatness...
I love these guys.
I grew up to the earler BG's and was not a fan of their disco music or any disco music. They made some of the best music in the world and will last forever. Robin is such a ham! One of the few bands that I never got to see and regret not seeing them live..Rip..Robin, Maurice and Andy.
