With the latest release of the Samsung galaxy fold, there doesn’t seem to be much buzz around what the new fold 5 brings to the table. So the question is, after two years does it make sense to upgrade from the Galaxy 3 to the 5? Or does it even make sense to buy the 5 over the 3. Makes no sense not to trade. Samsung gave me 800 for my fold 3 which made the fold 5 850 bucks and if I like the fold 6 next August they will give me 1000 for my fold 5 which is 150 bucks more than I paid for it. Again, makes no sense in some instances NOT to upgrade
You read my mind! I have handled the 5, it is a good phone but I was not blown away. Come on with the 6 and make some significant changes.
I am upgrading from F3, the 1TB capacity and faster processor being the main reasons.
A bit of advice for better battery performance.
if you are outdoors, turn wifi off as it will waste battery by constantly looking to connect. Same goes for G5. Unless you are literally under a G5 mast, switch it off, otherwise it consumes massive amounts of battery looking for the signal. Moreover, and again, unless you are very close to a G5 transmitter, G4 will be vastly faster. Also, if you don’t need Bluetooth, turn it off too.
Those tricks will give you plenty of battery to use the main screen not worrying about running out of power.

Speakers! Both the 3 and 5 have almost identical projection in loudness to my ears. If anything, the 5 has a slightly clearer sound at max volume. Bass and Treble are very close. Neither sound tinny - so if anything, the 5 has a ever so slight edge in clarity in that max volume range.

I have F3 but I pre-ordered the F5 because I have got a great deal.
With all SAMSUNG mobiles, you have to create your own lifestyle to overcome the battery issue (I.e. carrying a power bank, wireless charger in the office, and car charger...) all the time 😅 so you can enjoy the unique features of the GALAXY and the s-pen

I have the 3, and I am going to try to hold on to it as long as possible. Works great still. I have no complaints. Great protection with the Unicorn Beetle SUP Case after dropping this phone multiple times. The phone with the case is just heavier than I like but still looks like brand new, especially with the hinge protection.😊
I have the Fold 3 and you pretty much nailed every reason why I'm not upgrading to the Fold 5. Hopefully they make significant changes to the Fold 6 next year. I'm really hoping for an s pen slot inside the phone. 🤞
The spen slot won't happen unfortunately. Im Getting the fold 5 today with the spen case, and with having that case, there is no point making a silo in the phone which would make the battery smaller.
I agree! I think we are at peak smart phones. It seems like across many devices the upgrades each year are becoming less and less needed. I would also love to see the S Pen be held internally like the Note or Ultra. I'm sure at some point they will make that happen, but I bet they will push that for as long as they can sadly :/ Fingers crossed though lol
@@Gaetano.94 my dream Fold would be the cover screen which has the size of atleast an S+ or an S Ultra so they can have the s pen inside. Oh and same cameras with the S ultra would be nice.

Just bought a "new" fold 3 - replacement set - two days ago and loving it. Glad I forsook the 5 which would have cost almost 2.5x more than the great deal I got
Wish I saw this sooner, but at least its not too late I don’t think... I'm returning the fold 5 sticking with my fold 3. I hope next-gen one they make it a real upgrade... not that hard increases size of the phone closed, make it thinner, integrate pen, and give us dam current top tear camera!
I would LOVE to see a wider front display. The tall and narrow aspect is awesome to hold, but a nightmare to type with (at least for me). And of course, I don't see a reason they couldn't have made the camera better. But sadly, I think this is the majority of flagship phone brands. They dont make a perfect phone ever, they always leave a few things off, to give reason for a new device the next year. I'm excited to see One Plus' new device...but they come with their own issues in terms of software and customer service :/

Getting fold 5 upgrade from 3 today. My hinge sounds awful and a trip to the beach caused damage the the inner screen, but i still get full trade in value. Battery life has been getting worse also. I wouldnt have gotten this upgrade nornally but that $900 trade in is hard to resist, there's no way i could resell it 2nd hand for anywnere near that value.
Its an unheard of trade in deal, especially if your phones hinge is failing. Its gotta fold right ha. So I def do not blame you for taking the opportunity :D
Great review Josh. Punchy to the point and fair which is rare these days. I've had my z fold 3 screen replaced 4 times now under the Samsung warranty due to a cracked screen protector. I received mine back a few days ago and won't be upgrading partly due to your video. Nice one.

I pre-ordered the Z Fold 5. I'm coming from a S20 Ultra 5g, so for me it's a good upgrade. I got the 1k trade in, and my company is paying 200.00 toward it, as well as insurance and HBO MAX...So out of pocket for me is 650.00. I just couldn't say no.

My fold 3 isn't opening completely. Hinge got no hits or damage. Battery life a nightmare. Fold 5 feels like what the 3 should've been.
I traded in my Fold 3. I love this Fold 5. Feels great in my hand. The outside screen is definitely better. The camera is better as well.
We are at a mature phone market right now. So even smallest change matters. We shouldn't be expecting phone companies to make drastic changes on their new phones every year. Our personal improvements don't even happen every year. It may happen may be Once then we improve ourselves. Sooo, what of phones?!! In fact right now, we just need refinements for almost all phones. Iphone realized this, and people still make queues to buy their similar phones. Iphone 14 will go up to 16 may be, before they become the first company to have a punch hole front camera. Soo, Samsung has done good.
I agree ! Peak smartphones is def a thing and we have gotten to a place where maybe the leaps and bounds changes of the past isn't something to expect. As you said, not many companies make big changes anymore - so that was the purpose I guess here. Just to show that a phone, 2 or even 3 generations old will preform very well. And the need to upgrade isn't as apparent these days as it used to be. Thanks so much for taking the time to be honest and share though, always very much appreciated.

Hey, keep up the good videos. I have a zfold 3 in great condition, my question... do you think it's worth upgrading to the zfold 4 since I can't afford a zfold5 or is it best to wait for the zflold6? I'm asking because the 5 is basically an updated 4 with more upgrades coming or should I just wait for the z fold 6?
Hey there my friend, thanks for the kind words! To be honest, the consensus has sort of always been - if you have the fold 3 skip the 4. And if you have the 4, skip the 5. Now I obviously got the 5, and though yes statically there are improvements I really couldn't recommend upgrading if your 3 is still working well. I couldn't see a huge reason in my day to day, camera, battery, speed etc. The only big difference I truly clocked was the screen brightness. I'd honestly wait for the 6 unless Samsung brings back it's big trade in deals.

Hey there, in my video you can see I weigh both of the phones on a scale. The difference is fairly small and I don’t think one is more noticeable then the other in terms of weight.
I am a fold 3 user. Would you suggest me to go for fold 5 or flip 5? I am liking the new flip 5 but battery is a deal breaker for me.

I think everyone has varying experiences. I would wager though that if you watch a lot of other reviews, and take into consideration the average consumer - the battery life is not something that has been changed in terms of capacity. Technically a better processor should hope to yield more efficiency…but that’s not always the case, so only time will tell. I don’t feel the Fold 5 is a necessary upgrade for what it brings, I tried to show why, but of course it’s my opinion.
I think going from the Fold to the Flip is a totally different experience. So it’s hard for me to say on that as I don’t know how you use your devices. If you were coming from the Flip 3 or 4 to the Flip 5 I’d say go for it. As that new front display is a great and needed upgrade. But because the Fold is such a different device, it’s really hard to say.
On the Verizon page fold 34 and five are all the same price
Running the z fold 3 still have warranty until the 7 comes out so that's when I upgrade that's also when the last software update comes out. Got mine at a bestbuy open box offer sale like brand-new 270 I traded in a device got it z fold 3 for 512 GB like new. Was a great deal.

Why is your sound volume so low?
I upgraded from the fold 3 to the fold 5 this past week and I like the fold 5 alot better . One main thing is the hindge has more of a flat layout . Which helps make the screen crease less noticeable.
Not really. I have both fold 5 and fold 3. Same crease. But hinge is definitely better.

The camera looks a lot better on the 5. The chip set is a big leap also.
I had the Z3 until I got the ping pong line then I switched to the Z5. No complaints
The aspect ratio of the inner screen on the fold 3 is a bit better but thats it thr 5 kills it otherwise.
So glad i got rid of my fold 3 fold 4 has way....better battery life

How about durability and build quality?
I would wager it could be argued that the fold 5 technically has an improved build quality. But you can't feel it in the hand nor tell by looking at it. The screens and screen protectors will be something that only time will tell. Thus far both have been top notch to me.
No way, not enough reasons to upgrade it!! Stick with my F3!! Let's see next year!!! But I'm not optimistic that we'll see such big changes/upgrades!! Hopefully...
Honestly, if your 3 is holding up well…there’s really nothing earth shattering here. I think next year will be a good year to go upgrade, 3 generations in a row with small spec bumps. I’m confident the 6 should bring us something good 🤞🏼

It's samsungs official s pen case. Though I'm not a fan as the pen can easily be pushed out by your hand brushing from left ro right (or vice versa)
I own the fold 3(cracked outer screen so only use in dt mode or quick surfing around the house) fold 4(normal phone) and Razr 2022 (business)....If my Fold 3 did not not fall and crack the outer screen I would not have bought the Fold 4. If you dont have one the Fold 3,4 and likely 5 are going to turn you out so just get the cheapest one available really. Its bad in that you will stop using your tablet most llikely as the aspect ratio just kind of works and it fits in your pocket
I'd keep hold of my z fold 35g. Having compared both phones 3 & 5. it's pretty much the same thing as you'd have the same software which would be updated, on the 3 you'll get as much stuff as the 5 has. Going for the 5 would be a big loss as you would lose alot of £££. Having android 13, my next software update will lead me to android 14...

Im definitely sticking with my Fold 3. Dont really see any reason to upgrade. Now if Samsung increases the cover screen size, Include a built in S Pen, and throw in at least a 5000mah battery than i'll upgrade. Until then im good lol.

My fold 3 needed an upgrade as the screen started peeling off. So im getting a fold 5 in hopes it will last me 2 years..
The screens across the board have been hit or miss it seems. Luckily my 3 was great. But I’ve heard both on the 3 and 4 ppl having issues. I’ll be interested to see if the 5 is the same. But of course if your screen is having problems peeling, that trade in offer Samsung is offering is very tempering. Here’s to hoping the screen lasts you many years on the Fold 5 my friend

The only problem for me on F3 is the battery life. It's not better as i wish, but no complain about the whole hardware. Defenetely didn't see some special reason to buy right now F5.
YES! Battery life is sadly sub par across the whole lineup. With tweaks in habits I think we can make it serviceable, but that was one thing I was hoping for with the 5 - a better battery. Maybe the 6 will come though

Why don't you mention that the stated weight is different than the measured weight? Are you afraid to criticize Samsung?
My video was basically saying I didn’t think the new phone was worth the upgrade. That in and of itself is a criticism. I could have not even shown the weight part, I am neither for nor against Samsung. I’m just trying to give my honest opinions

The fold 3 is awful.. No one should buy this phone, I wasted $2000 on this phone, it's notorious for having the black screen of death, I couldn't even use the unfolded inside screen, not to mention the fingerprint ID stopped working, and also the charging port stopped working, the only way I could charge the phone was through wireless charging. And don't bother trying to get Samsung to replace the device or honor their warranty.. You're better off with the fold 4 or the 5, but the 3 is the worst

YES! 5 hasn't been a champ though either for me - the whole lineup needs a big bump to battery life imho. The 5 has performed only slightly better for me
@@Joshua88Graham today I woke up at 9:30 hr and since then no charging. 19:53 hr as I'm writing with 46% and heavy usage of the big screen. It isn't that bad. Performance light in battery settings though. Maybe a tip?

If you preorder the 5 and trade in your 3 on Samsung they'll give you a free storage upgrade. After those discounts you're paying just under $1k AFTER taxes for an almost $2k phone. Definitely worth it with that deal!
