Best of luck to you in the competition. This video is terrific. The meta voiceover during 4x made my whole day. :)
😂😂😂 thanks mate, that really means a lot.
I always try to make videos fun and entertaining and I thought a little bit of RUclips meta commentary would be amusing.
I wish you the best of luck for the Golden Demon award, these days the competition is intense so much harder than it was back in the early 2000s; I saw some Golden Demon (Spanish Madrid competition) winners in a cabinet at a person's house and although they were great, they wouldn't win any top tier awards these days.
Yeah, the bar for a Golden Demon has moved so far up in this past 20 years that it's absolutely nuts.
I'm not expecting to win anything but surely I'm going to try my best
Dude, your process of identifying the colors is so valuable! Would have loved watching you sculpting the hand parts, maybe its an idea for another tutorial? Good luck for the competition :)
Thanks, I will give it a thought for an upcoming sculpting video
This is a super fun idea for a video! Best of luck and let us know if we can provide you with any supplies to help you on your journey!
Thanks I will!
Amazing video ! I like this kind of video where we can follow you in this amazing creative journey. I can't wait the next videos about this project. Thank you very much for the quality (and the jokes) of this video !
Thanks mate 😘
Just what I was thinking. Nice to watch the process
Thanks 😘
Juan, this is a great idea for a series. It's really interesting and useful to see how you can up your painting game away from just brush work. The research and thought process is all part of it. Really looking forward to seeing how this unfolds :)
P.S. The narration satire actually made me LOL
Thanks, I really appreciate it.
Both things but specially the laughing part, you know that's all I care about
Can't wait to see the final result.
Me neither!
Such a bold & generous move bearing in mind the secrecy some other artists have when they're participating in GD and other competitions. Well done!
Gracias 😘
The thing when you have certainty that you are not going to win is you don't really care about those things
My God……you are actually human!
I've always been one!
My mom got me tested and everything
Eres un titan, mucha suerte en el golden demon.
Gracias guapo 😘
Entertaining video. Thanks a lot for sharing. I personally think we do not have enough of these 'behind the scenes' tutorials.
Thanks mate 😘
Much appreciated
more seriously, I love that you do this kind of video. You litterally explain how you think. It's the next best thing of following you everywhere you go ;) (wich disapoint me a bit, I wanted to that ;) (JOKE JOKE JOKE !!! ;) )
😂😂😂
Thanks mate 😘
You're like the voice of my consicence... maybe I should apply myself this diligently to...erm, "other" activities, as well.
Gracias! Y buena suerte!
😂😂😂😂
Gracias guapo 😘
And here I was waiting for all the Christina Aguilera covers. Boo!
But since I'm already here, I can go ahead and watch this boring serious painting video.
Wait, Golden Demon? Wooo! You go, mate!
Thanks 😘
Long time ago i played a graphic adventure calle "The Cave" from Ron Gilbert, Monkey Island videogame creator. In this game there´s a Voice in Off, explaining some things to do or jokes about the game. I love that game, i spent a lot of hours playing it. I only want to say you, your voice is the same that I found so fun in that game. I love your videos ,I love your voice modulation in english and, I love your miniature painting way. Felicidades Juan, algun dia nos veremos en el Warhammer de Lluria. Saludos y felicidades de nuevo.
Jajajajaja, gracias guapo 😘
I don't think that make painted background for model is good idea for GD. Maybe I'm wrong and your experience is different. You must paint back of model and than you cover it with background. Judges often goes throw the cabinets and looking on the models from behind. Think about it.
I know! I'm very well aware about that actually but this is for single model, I KNOW I'm not going to win anyway, so I just want to make the best model I can and push my limits.
I want create an illustration in the shape of a mini that's my main goal here, recreating something as perfectly as possible and learn something new.
I'm don't mind the destination, I'm here for the journey but I really appreciate your input mate, you know what you are talking about and it means a lot
I wish you the best luck for the GD, even if you don't need luck!
Great work, great painter, you deserve at least one prize.
Greetings from Italy
Thanks Mauro! 😘
Awesome work! Good luck with the project!
I've really been waiting for this video series as I'd love to hear more insight into doing a project to the max ^_^
It'd be cool to hear more about your thoughts behind choosing this specific project, how to make sure that it's 'cool enough', etc. :)
That is a good point! I might go over those in the next entry, thanks
Amazing video. Love everything about it. Congratulations
Thanks mate 😘
That intro! 🤣👌. Now having watched the video I can’t wait to see how things progress, loved the basing and the matching the paints. Something I would never have thought to do from an image. Lolling forward to the next video!
Thanks 😂
Good luck in the competition. I really really enjoyed the video. I've never painted from an image before and would not have thought of this approach to match the colours so thoroughly. I'm really interested, hooked, to see how this turns out!
Thanks, I'm really happy you enjoyed it.
Next one coming soon!
Great video! I look forward to watching your progress, and maybe even competing with you! :)
That would be AWESOME
Buenas Juan!!!
Love your channel, been a fan since looking how to paint power blades. Your content is consistently amazing. Best of luck on the competition and I’ll be sure to keep watching.
Thanks mate 😘
Much appreciated
Hola! Very interesting new video series coming up i think 🥴 looking forward to it! To be hones, the skulpted rocks in these 50 shades of grey in the end already look awesome without further paint 😂 do you make jewelry in your day time job, or how do you happen to use brass wire and silver?
I'm a goldsmith indeed, one of my jobs benefits is I can easily and quickly make small metal parts with no glue at all
I don't think this composition can win a golden demon by itself. The model the pose work and the hand alternate seems like the bare minimum. Having a nice plinth painted background is almost boring without additional three d elements to break the composition from the fore ground to the background into an interesting sense of depth. The judges are just that harsh I imagine that a simple figure painted well with a small sculpted addition or two to the base on a plinth won't cut it.
Well yes and no. First of all I'm not planning on winning really, at least not single miniature, that's a given but look at the last winner of the single 40k mini, it had a bare minimum conversion work and a super simple base, same goes for the gold in Open but with ZERO conversion this time. It's not about complexity of construction but about flawless execution.
But as I said, I'm most definitely not expecting to win anything and starting with a mini with a painting background is most definitely NOT helping as it's well known GD judges don't like them.
This is not about how to win a GD but about the journey to try, this is about pushing your limits, trying new stuff and learning new skills in the process. To me at least the destination is not really the goal here, the trip itself it's its own goal.
What a great video! Really interesting process. Serious Juan good for these intense videos but I hope the usual silliness is not good for good!
Well this video was quite silly but yeah I don't plan on changing the general vibe of the channel
Es un genial proyecto Juan!! Y es una genial idea compartir el proceso con tod@s!! Un saludo y mucha suerte y ánimo con ello! Te apoyamos
Gracias guapo 😘
That "let´s get Cracking" has my mind crazy. Manos a la obra!!!!
YEAH!! 💪💪
Great project, can't wait to see the next video. Keep up the good work, Juan!
Thanks mate 😘
This is something different from your normal content. Color me interested.
Be sure to watch the second installment as well
Good luck Juan. Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks 😘
I am excited to follow this :) , full support for placing!
Thanks Chelsea 😘
Juan! Honestly, best of luck man! You are going to rock it!
Thanks 😘
thanks for the timefiller monolog juan XDXDXD
Happy to help 😘
this was very interesting and entertaining to watch
Thanks 😘
I'm looking forward to being able to saw four times faster
😂😂
Good luck! Looking forward to this series!
Thanks! I really appreciate it, the thing when you know you cannot win is you don't care about secrecy
Thank you , Juan .
Thanks 😘
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures My pleasure .
Such hard work by such a dashingly good looking chap
Thanks 😘
I hope you win, good luck Juan!
Thanks 😘
This is a great video. It’s really fun to see the progress 👍
Thanks
Very interesting. Good luck.
Gracias guapo 😘
Juan here modelling using real silver to flex on the poor.
Super hyped about this series of videos, man. Not just for the technical side of it, but also for the journey. I was going to say "great job as always", but this is even better than what you always do.
Thanks, this video took MONTHS to make and several weeks to edit so I really appreciate it
fascinating to watch the process. thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching 😘
Juan Hidalgo contrast extraordinaire
😘
Excelente idea para una serie de vídeos!, mucha suerte!
Gracias guapo 😘
I very much enjoyed the video. I love seeing the process of how things are created and look forward to more content in the future.
Thanks, I really appreciate it
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Seeing how a competitive mini is made is something I hadn't seen before and is right up my alley!
Amazing work. Will there be a painting video? Great channel!
Yes, at some point there will be. This is the kind of thing you have to do when you feel like it
@JuanHidalgo Miniatures Nice! Something to look forward to.
A Spiritseer would looks good on the base from the newest Ahriman model, with a bit of adaption to change the scarab beetle on the part the model stands on.
I love your painting, I also appreciate you showing the construction method.
Edit: it always surprises me when high level painters like yourself paint models assembled; I can't get anywhere near your level unless I paint in sub-assemblies.
Thanks 😘
As for the subassemblies, in this case the problems caused by painting it separately would be far greater than the problems caused by hard to reach areas.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures that's a fair point. For me it's a disability issue, I only have one working arm so I find it easier to manipulate smaller parts. Plus I'm probably the single clumsiest person you could ever meet; painting assembled models would involve covering misplaced brush strokes more than putting them in the correct place 🤣
Yeah in your case subassemblies are a must for sure.
This was meta as fuck, I love it.
Thanks 😂😂😂
I had a lot of fun making the voiceovers
22:48 : or worst : poisoning from all these paintS your are licking
You could lick hobby paints for a lifetime and not get poisoned, don't worry about me.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures 1st, too late, I worry about you ;)
2nd exactly what a paint poisoner would say to make you believe it's ok ;)
Fantástico video Juan!
GRACIAS!
Really looking forward to seeing this project progress, how often will you be uploading updates for it?
It's hard to tell, because being such an intense project I will work on it when I have time and are in the right mindset. I wish I could give you a better answer.
That being said, I'm planning on releasing the second one very soon indeed, it will be a livestream to unload some of the workload and I also think the format is great to showcase the topic at hand, panting the background using oils.
So, as it seems I won't have the video I had planned for Friday (Jain Zar) I will probably make that livestream on Saturday or Sunday, I'm very excited.
After the livestream is done I will probably re-cut said livestream into a 15-20 minute video just for the sake of convenience and upload it as well but will do that when I have some time to spare.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures yeah fair enough, I know the RUclips grind lol. Trying to get my latest vid out with a new baby. Either way dude I look forward to the next instalments I only asked because I’m excited for them 😃
Thanks mate, also trust me, I've been there my friend, I know that grind of having a baby and making content, good luck!
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures hahah thank you 🙏
Shout out to Juan's wife.
😂😂😂😂
Poor woman, the things she has to put up with...
Tremendo! No puedo esperar a ver el resultado final.
Gracias guapo 😘
That voice-over :D Love!
Thanks 😘
You got this Juan!
Thanks 😘
Mate, you're my no.1 inspiration for taking a better approach to painting. I got back into WH and the hobby side of things had me a bit deflated, but these tutorials/streams got me putting paint to plastic. Now it's my fave part. Best of luck to your Golden Demon entry!
Thanks mate, much appreciated it really means a lot
Already looking forward to the next video. The process of colour matching may be one of the most valuable (as in applicable to every model) things you've done for the community. As you progress, I think outlining how long the various steps took you would be really valuable - the sheer time involved in a competition is probably way more than people think
I will give a rough estimate but I by principle NEVER time myself, it's extremely counterproductive and it doesn't serve any valuable purpose (at least for me)
Minis take, as long as they take.
Also thanks, I really appreciate it
Im glad you're going through the process like this, i've been debating entering a painting contest at Adepticon in 2023, obviously I will have a lot of planning hence the later date planned.. .but this is perfect... it'll give me an idea as to what all is involved to get my painting ready. Thanks for sharing the process bro.
Thanks for watching 😘
Is it a good idea to take a golden shower before attempting this, to get in the mood?
I don't think that ever hurt anyone...
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures you fell for my trap. This was all to identify you as an R. Kelly sympathizer.
😂😂😂😂😂
As usual, a wonderful video, it's really interresting to see what your thinking and preparing concept is. (But the voiceover is definitely the best ;) )
Thanks 😂😂
That's my favourite part as well with the "Chapter" screens
Awesome Juan!
Thanks
You can do it!!!!
Thanks 😘
A por el oro!
Gracias guapo 😘

Thanks, always happy to entertain 😂

There IS a part 2! It's a livestream.
There isn't a part 3 though..... Yet
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures How the hell did I miss that, thanks!
Your process is fascinating, o can't wait to see how the process goes and witness your eventual triumph

I agree, this can only end in triumph!
