That navy jump suit was so nice, and since most bigger ladies have bigger arms, you'd think the companies would cotton on by now, and just add a little ruffle or butterfly sleeve instead of being sleeveless!!!

Melissa, I wonder if you realize how much you help? In my youth I could wear lots of different clothes as long as they fit my small frame. I'm about 5' on a good day so I've always had to consider that. Now that I'm older and my body is changing, I find that it's much harder. First time commenting, but I've been subscribed for a while. I watched this video last year and sitting watching it again now as I'm thinking about what I need to buy for summer. I often have you in my head now whilst out shopping thinking 'Would Melissa wear this?' 😀I really don't know if you realise what an impact you have on people. I'm mid 40s with two teenage children and live in the UK and until I found your channel last year I had fallen out of love with clothes and shopping as I really didn't know what suited me anymore. I too am obsessed with pockets. I work in a school and being able to easily carry spare bits and pieces is invaluable! For the same reasons, I would never wear a white dress or white trousers. Although I am mostly based in a High School, I sometimes get sent to the primary school at short notice - where sticky, dirty little fingers soon leave their mark!

I’m really enjoying your channel and your explanations of how to balance out the body/. This is an area I struggle with. I’m a pear with a fairly small waist but also have a bit of extra weight on my arms. Your tips are definitely helping me think through my wardrobe choices.

I struggled with the wide leg pant. Tried lots on, most made me look like a clown being 5’2” with a tummy but I’ve taken Melissa’s advice, I do the tuck in at the front and only wear with heels. Also only bought from M & S in the short length so the shape is right all the way to the hem. It’s been liberating to have a new look. Thank you Melissa!

Loved this video so helpful. I find dressing so much easier in my 50s with an altering body shape since watching your channel and switching to neutrals. For anyone on a budget I got a neutral lightweight long cardigan from Matalan and I've had so much wear out of it. I've gradually replaced all my shoes to neutrals since watching you and it makes such a difference! Loved the straw clutch ill be buying that and still on the hunt for a white dress for a 5'2" with a large bust size 12 if anyone has found one (happy to pay more for this).
I found a nice linen tiered dress from Boden, knee length & I think they do petite. Also Anthropologie have a lovely dress called Somerset in different fabrics & lengths. Also Gap have a nice crinkle fabric one that you can find on Next x
Thanks for another great video Melissa. I love how you show us what not to do as well as what to do. I love your paisley jumpsuit and your solution to disguising your bra strap was ingenious but it must be a nuisance to redo it every time you go to the loo. I follow a number of stylists on RUclips but you are far and away my favourite.
I did not dress up (exercise clothes only - didn’t exercise) much for the last couple of years due to the pandemic. I picked up some of your essentials and now receive compliments every time I leave the house. I am so glad I found you. Ohio,USA.
Melisa, Don't know how much to thank you for all the help you do for the whole lot of us. it has helped me to understand my body type figure out a sense of style for my body shape and so on. I have a small request for you, from a non-fashion people like me who are just trying to figure out their style, can you make a video on how to work around with their current wardrobe? like a boxy t-shirt on a strawberry shape or a high neck blouse on a busty women.. and so on.. Would be really wonderful for those who love the particular dress or top but doesn't really work well with their body type.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments, I really appreciate it. Re your request; the problem with this is that most people are visual learners so I'd need a lot of models in the studio at any one time to be able to demonstrate this. When I demonstrate things on my own frame people moan. I'd suggest approaching it slightly differently in that if you know an item doesn't suit your shape then donate it to charity or go to a swishing event where people take their unwanted items and they swap them with someone who does want them. That is probably a better way of making a wardrobe work for you than trying to make something that doesn't work, work (if that makes sense!!!). x
I just watched this video a year after it was posted, I now see, but the clothing choices you made still work this year. They will probably work next year, the year after, and so on, as you chose mostly classic, timeless pieces. I also love your tips on balancing one's figure visually through styling. Most capsule wardrobe posters don't include them but they're very helpful.
Absolutely they are and well done for recognising that. If you choose your base colours well in timeless pieces you can have fun with accessories in order to keep your look updated. X

I live in the sweltering South in the U.S., but when I go out to eat, the restaurant is often chilly. I’m simply pointing out that while we may not need as many outer pieces as those in the UK, we may still visit places where those pieces come in handy. Great video Melissa. I don't like wearing shorts but I love jumpsuits and long dresses. I also want to be "floaty and cool" in the summer. It's the best for the hot weather or maybe it's because of my age too :) I'm 41. Oh! I love how you don't try to look absolutely perfect for us as other youtubers do and you show us your back when it's not tanned and this sort of things. You have such a great personality! I just found you on YT and watched all the body shape videos… love how you examine some of the typical rules we all hear and tweak them! Would be great to see you dress an hourglass that is more average height with larger breast and hips. I struggle to find tops and dresses that flatter me when every online shop shows their clothes on waif like models with no curves.. they never look the same on a REAL body! Great advise and lovely choices of clothes. I adore jump-suits but toileting can be a problem with the ‘all in one’. Preferably the matching top and bottom for a quick visit to the loo.
Love the video and styling tips, I learn something new each time. I have just brought new shorts, I tried the M and S ones in the video but they were quite voluminous. I did get some others in a similar length that were a bit more tailored. Could you give a few more ideas for styling shorts if you don’t feel comfortable with a crop top. I have several close fitting vest or tank tops with a scoop neck would they they work. Trying to work with what I have and buy a few bits gradually.

I too am obsessed with pockets. I work in a school and being able to easily carry spare bits and pieces is invaluable! For the same reasons, I would never wear a white dress or white trousers. Although I am mostly based in a High School, I sometimes get sent to the primary school at short notice - where sticky, dirty little fingers soon leave their mark!

I’m really enjoying your channel and your explanations of how to balance out the body/. This is an area I struggle with. I’m a pear with a fairly small waist but also have a bit of extra weight on my arms. Your tips are definitely helping me think through my wardrobe choices.

I struggled with the wide leg pant. Tried lots on, most made me look like a clown being 5’2” with a tummy but I’ve taken Melissa’s advice, I do the tuck in at the front and only wear with heels. Also only bought from M & S in the short length so the shape is right all the way to the hem. It’s been liberating to have a new look. Thank you Melissa!

Loved this video so helpful. I find dressing so much easier in my 50s with an altering body shape since watching your channel and switching to neutrals. For anyone on a budget I got a neutral lightweight long cardigan from Matalan and I've had so much wear out of it. I've gradually replaced all my shoes to neutrals since watching you and it makes such a difference! Loved the straw clutch ill be buying that and still on the hunt for a white dress for a 5'2" with a large bust size 12 if anyone has found one (happy to pay more for this).

I found a nice linen tiered dress from Boden, knee length & I think they do petite. Also Anthropologie have a lovely dress called Somerset in different fabrics & lengths. Also Gap have a nice crinkle fabric one that you can find on Next x

Thanks for another great video Melissa. I love how you show us what not to do as well as what to do. I love your paisley jumpsuit and your solution to disguising your bra strap was ingenious but it must be a nuisance to redo it every time you go to the loo. I follow a number of stylists on RUclips but you are far and away my favourite.
Yes it's a nuisance to go the loo but it's only a few unwraps - just don't leave it until you're really desperate!!!

Melisa, Don't know how much to thank you for all the help you do for the whole lot of us. it has helped me to understand my body type figure out a sense of style for my body shape and so on. I have a small request for you, from a non-fashion people like me who are just trying to figure out their style, can you make a video on how to work around with their current wardrobe? like a boxy t-shirt on a strawberry shape or a high neck blouse on a busty women.. and so on.. Would be really wonderful for those who love the particular dress or top but doesn't really work well with their body type.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments, I really appreciate it. Re your request; the problem with this is that most people are visual learners so I'd need a lot of models in the studio at any one time to be able to demonstrate this. When I demonstrate things on my own frame people moan. I'd suggest approaching it slightly differently in that if you know an item doesn't suit your shape then donate it to charity or go to a swishing event where people take their unwanted items and they swap them with someone who does want them. That is probably a better way of making a wardrobe work for you than trying to make something that doesn't work, work (if that makes sense!!!). x
I just watched this video a year after it was posted, I now see, but the clothing choices you made still work this year. They will probably work next year, the year after, and so on, as you chose mostly classic, timeless pieces. I also love your tips on balancing one's figure visually through styling. Most capsule wardrobe posters don't include them but they're very helpful.
Absolutely they are and well done for recognising that. If you choose your base colours well in timeless pieces you can have fun with accessories in order to keep your look updated. X

I live in the sweltering South in the U.S., but when I go out to eat, the restaurant is often chilly. I’m simply pointing out that while we may not need as many outer pieces as those in the UK, we may still visit places where those pieces come in handy. Great video Melissa. I don't like wearing shorts but I love jumpsuits and long dresses. I also want to be "floaty and cool" in the summer. It's the best for the hot weather or maybe it's because of my age too :) I'm 41. Oh! I love how you don't try to look absolutely perfect for us as other youtubers do and you show us your back when it's not tanned and this sort of things. You have such a great personality! I love people who are genuine, natural, honest and practical as you are. You remind me of an English lady that was my boss and my friend when I was in my twenties. She was an inspiration for me.

I just found you on YT and watched all the body shape videos… love how you examine some of the typical rules we all hear and tweak them! Would be great to see you dress an hourglass that is more average height with larger breast and hips. I struggle to find tops and dresses that flatter me when every online shop shows their clothes on waif like models with no curves.. they never look the same on a REAL body! Cant wait to dive into your other videos!

Great advise and lovely choices of clothes. I adore jump-suits but toileting can be a problem with the ‘all in one’. Preferably the matching top and bottom for a quick visit to the loo.

Love the video and styling tips, I learn something new each time. I have just brought new shorts, I tried the M and S ones in the video but they were quite voluminous. I did get some others in a similar length that were a bit more tailored. Could you give a few more ideas for styling shorts if you don’t feel comfortable with a crop top. I have several close fitting vest or tank tops with a scoop neck would they they work. Trying to work with what I have and buy a few bits gradually.
