    I am a hoarder myself.
I honestly don’t know what triggered mine but I suffer from Autism as well which has traits which that cause Hoarding such as intense interests.
It is a constant uphill battle.

I have a sister who is a hoarder whose hoardings started with a death of our mother.I can't tell you the sadness I feel, I for my wonderful sister. It really breaks my heart. She refuses any help or to get help. So there is nothing we can do.

Jasmine is spot on by stating that hoarding is a “coping mechanism” for something much deeper

I’d be interested to know if grown up children of such hoarders grow up with their own issues because of how they have grown up. I still have a reaction 😅 if the doorbell goes unexpectedly and I’m very tidy and minimalist.

Many hoarders are actually perfectionists, and find the task of cleaning their home overwhelming because it will never be perfect due to the hoard. So actually getting started on the task can be really really difficult.
I’m sure you must have had days when you have so many things to do, that you decide to get under a blanket and fall asleep on the sofa instead…… Well, for many people with hoarding disorder, they feel this way all of the time because it is literally such an overwhelming amount to do.

So you don't really empathise then if you can't understand
