"I can't reveal that to you" that's awesome
you know inside he’s thinking no I would love to win the draft lottery and get a franchise center 😂
Cmon Helene... what kind of question was that? Stevie is so well spoken and patient.
that's all of her questions .. they're brain teasers
She’s been pretty bad for years.
@@paulmartin6209 Maybe somebody could write down questions for her in advance. Ughhh
@@paulmartin6209she’s awfullllll
How the hell she have a job a 8yr old could do better
How does Helene still have a job as a professional sports journalist...
...because you have yet to take the time to hone your own writing skills in order to replace her.
Stevie should just say “Helene, I am no longer taking questions from you.”
Exactly
Because she’s a woman.
@@eleanorcat9982 Emotional questions are insulting and uninteresting for Yzerman to answer and for fans to listen to. It would be cool if they pressed interesting answers, regarding the game of hockey itself for more information. When Yzerman says that this kid has "good hands", it would be interesting to listen what this kid has that made him superior to the other players - more questions about all the aspects of hockey playing I would find more interesting and it would be more useful to the youngsters listening...wondering how this guy they drafted got such good hands.
Can we boycot Helene? Elementary level questioning
what a great place to hold an interview !
St James put some nuance into your questions. My God is it awkward
I know right? Like she makes me believe anyone can be a sports journalist. Year after year I dread her poorly worded, bland, nervous-sounding questions.
Helene St James needs to not.
She’s brutal lately
@@Ryan-gc6jclately?
I wonder how many artless, pointless questions Steve has fielded from Helene over the years. His patience is otherworldly.
She has to retire at some point, you'd think. Does she read comments about her dumb questions?
@@scotey I'd rather have that than these softball questions the other people ask. at least she has courage to ask tough questions
Reminds me of Biden.
@@azizshavershian2065 If you think her questions are tough, you haven't been following her very long. The entire Wings media corps is pretty softball. Helene differs mostly in her tortured syntax and weird run-on statements that she seems to think are implied questions. Beyond that, it's not about asking tough questions. Yzerman is guarded enough that he'll reflexively filibuster every tough question. The best questions are subtle and well-structured such that Yzerman reveals insight simply because he views the question as not particularly dangerous.
Steve is a Class Act.
Helene St James should not be allowed to be a part of the media group. Absolutely ridiculous questioning and the way she tries to manipulate answers is absurd.
Was he number 1 on your list 😆 🤣 😂
aha, nearly shit my pants
@@Clyde_Frog that was a legit question he answered "NO"
This women is a horrendous journalist
Like what the fuck was that lmao
We need new sport journalist, it's embarrassing to watch
I’d watch this video just to listen to Stevie Y talk hockey. 4 hours would go by like 4 minutes he’s such a nerd for the game🤓. I love it.
NHL turn the music volume down for cry'n out loud!!!
Can we find journalists that can form a sentence?
Damn said he didnt want to get rid of Gibson when asked about the Walman trade... something definitely happened there.
Dude seriously. People act like they know what goes on behind the scenes. Yet they distrust Yzerman when he said he tried..? He's the most honest person in sports I know of lol
Heres my opinion on the walman trade...he soured the management....they traded him to dump salary...we get future considerations...which i believe will end up being holl getting claimed off waivers so we lose that salary also, IF we need to clear it....if we dont sign the free agents he wants and we end up not needing to clear holls cap hit and roster spot then the future considerations turns into just a future pick and/or prospect. 🤷🏼♂️
Helene makes up questions on the fly in her head. She can’t even finish asking them because she doesn’t even know what they are. Every question she asks is open ended. It’s brutal to listen to. Is she even able to write articles with these questions she is asking?
Man Walman fucked up somehow, Stevie completely ignored the Walman aspect of that question and just focused on the prospect, dudes dead to him lol
Exactly. People choosing to trust the judgment of some twitter accounts over the man Steve himself is alarming. Walman f'ed up 100%
Hi hit the griddy 1 too many times
Whoever asked the Walman question THANK YOU
and now it is clear as Mud.
The more I hear about the trade, the worse it gets . Without doubt the worst trade Stevie ever made. Especially now, knowing that he did not want to trade Gibson either.
@@richierich398 Please someone ask him "why not even try Waivers???!!!"
Max Bultman of The Athletic 🫡
Yzerman said "it is hard to move money, I tried I really did". He is right, it is so hard to move money if it is Chiarot or Holl. Should not be the case with Walman and unless you think it is all lies, other sources said their teams were not contacted and they would have given a draft pick for Walman in a real hockey trade. If several teams are saying they were not contacted and he did not try the waivers route, did he really try? This was a slap in the face to loyal fans IMO. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt all along thinking it would all unfold and make sense but I think it was just what we all witnessed and nothing more than that. If he signs both Kane and Stamkos though, water under the bridge. :)
“Was he number 1 on your list?” Man, that made me cringe 😬😬😂
We believe in you Steve🐙🐙🐙
I trust Hakan and the European scouting team
There it is - SJ wanted the Wings to retain salary for Walman and the 2nd rounder is what it took for them to take the $3.4M in full. These “experts” all worried about having to add the sweetener are morons.
Helene is so annoying 🤣🤣🤣
But probably not as annoying as the Red Wings 'fans' who endlessly whine on about her beneath videos like this one?
HSJ's: a solid hockey writer; a Wings veteran writer with over a quarter of a century of experience behind her; a published author; and while she's maybe not always the most exciting, flashy question poser in these kind of situations, several of her questions here really hit the nail on the head as usual, nonetheless🎯. Overall, the lady's a consistently decent, hard worker when it comes to her hockey coverage work in Detroit (and, as here, out on the road).
Maybe you and the other HSJ-knocking rocket scientists present here could actually raise some 'Red Wings'-related points of interest, questions, etc, once in a while, eh🤔? That'd sure be a nice change, wouldn't it, now👍?!
@@HAL9010-sv1gh
Helene burner lol^^^^^
@@HAL9010-sv1ghdude she asked if he was number 1 on their list and also asked how important it was that the guy is a 2 way player. Yzerman has always said they want 2 way players

Number 1?!?!?! Cmon 🤦🏻♂️😂😂
I would of said we wanted Bedard lol
Great question
@@yzerab19 yeaaaaa very great lmao
Can someone explain to me why the number 1 question was so bad? I'm not really understanding 🤔
Seider for captain.
it's funny that on the left side of the screen, the Red Wings logo never disappears like the others around it.
The Zaddy of the NHL. 😍
Can we respect this man c'mon folks
How is everyone feeling on this pick ?
Absolutely luv it
He's gonna be good. Solid fireball with 2way game. Stevie likes his Euro players.
Bored.
Good solid pick
I'm sure he'll do great on the 2nd line in GR for the next half decade.
its hard to move money? They why were GMs telling reporters that they would have loved to get in on the Walman deal?
Still can't find a reliable source for these claims I'm seeing around the internet. These claims of other gms willing to pay came from some random puck report page on Instagram or something. I find it extremely hard to believe Steve didn't ask around the league. But we're supposed to believe internet rumors gms were lining up to pay for Walman? Yeah, I don't know.
there is more to the deal
There has to be more to the deal, Yzerman isn't stupid
signing Kane, Seider, Stamkos, Raymond
Maybe we shouldn't listen to hacks like Sean Shapiro who says anything for clicks.
Was he #1 on your list? What a ridiculous question. Doesn’t sound like Stevie tried hard enough to move Walman without giving up a 2nd. Seems like he could have been more patient. Guess we’ll never know for sure.
The guy has been IMMERSED in the NHL since '83. You don't think he knows just about everyone and guaranteed he garners mad respect for the LEGEND that he is as a player and a GM. I mean, his reputation is based on fleecing other GM's for ridiculous deals favoring Detroit.
He probably didnt want to give walman to an eastern team that could bite him
@@godridesponyswalman could have been sent on waivers and sharks would have been able to get first grabs. It’s an inexcusable trade unless we hear more
@@DONWASABIJUANwe don’t need to hear anything . Holl contract was a mistake no one wants it . Walman is not responsible defensively on a consistent basis . He’s a second or third pairing guy . The amount of people who are mad need to get over it period . We don’t need to hear a reason why , the trade is done and it’s time to move on . Thanks for the memories Jake .
@@DONWASABIJUAN you ever think maybe Yzerman thinks the prospect they got in return was worth close to a 2nd round pick? Also, they got a 2nd round pick right back by unloading a defenseman prospect (which they have an abundance of). And they got rid of Walman’s salary to make a bigger move in free agency.
Disappointed with how ineffective our GM is on day one.
Takes what on paper is considered the best player available, instead of making a trade to moves up like other GM's did. There were several who could think of making a deal here.
MBN is ~3 years away from being an NHL player, if he even reaches that level. Played in youth hockey and in HockeyAllsvenskan, a tier below the SHL.
From 24/25 he is in the *Skellefteå AIK organization together with ASP in the SHL (*Champions). MBN only has a 1-year contract with Skellefteå today, which then covers his participation during 24/25.
So trading Walman at a deficit value wasn't about having access to move up during the draft. Soon it will be Monday and the open market will open, hope S.Y will be present then...
Two-way player is more of what's needed in the league. This is why Florida won and Conner along with Leon did not.
Florida also had players at ppg and above. We don’t and don’t have prospects that project to be that
Yeah, this kid isn't going to be a Barkov, or a Reinhart, or a verhaege, or a tkachuk.
@@joechriste7052Oh shit. Joe got the crystal ball out early.
No he wasn't number one on our list, that was Celebrini...next question.
No such thing as a stupid question.
Except the idiot with the dumb question
I want to hear max boltmans questions. Everyone else is so god awful
This is cool and all but please Resign Kane and get Stamkos 😂
Helene Didn't Earn It as a journalist.
Well if he just were out after money why he pick wallman? Could sen away holl
NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE HOLL. Yzerman himself knows signing him was a mistake, but there's no point dwelling on it. Obviously something behind the scenes happened.
Because who would take Holl? Disaster in Toronto, disaster in Detroit. That gets around the league and GM's aren't going to take a difficult player who's got 3.4 million coming for 2 more seasons. Trading the 1st round from last night plus a top prospect (Berggren or Sandin Pellikka, something like that) could maybe bring that about but it's too steep a price on the future. People aren't perfect, Yzerman made a huge mistake with the Holl contract and the money saved from Walman might be used to buy him out. Nobody is happy about it. But consider picks like Raymond, Seider, Danielson, Cossa, Johansson, Sandin-Pellikka, hopefully Nygard. Yzerman has done a good job putting this franchise on the right track.
@@aaronhoepner3154 true i dont get why the hell he tok him from Toronto in first place
@johanblomfeldt7681 stop-gap measure. I personally think Yzerman bowed a bit to the pressure over making the playoffs. If the kids in Grand Rapids weren't going to be ready then best to sign some experienced NHL defenseman until they're ready. Toronto is a horrible place to play when it comes to pressure so the reasoning that a change of scenery could help Holl was sound. It just wasn't the case at all. It looks like the Jacob Trouba to Detroit rumors are starting to heat up so it might turn this into a positive.
@@aaronhoepner3154 exactly
Everyone crying about losing Walman lmao. Is it bc he did the griddy when he scored? If he did the griddy every time he gave up a goal you would have seen him griddy ALOT more lol
Kid had 8 goals in 41 games…another low ceiling pick for the rebuild that will never end.
No he definitely wasn't number one lol
Yzermans plan is so close, just need another 13 years
10year rebuild 😂😂😂😂😂
he said 7 from the beginning and he just completed his 5th year.
Walman was horrible asset management. Absolute waste. And we still have holl/petry. For all the great moves he makes, he makes some atrocious ones.
Helen......smdh. Women........
That lady consistently asks the worst questions - why does she still have a job???
Steve I love you, but I hate you for the Walman disaster.
You don't know what goes on behind the scenes. This could've very well been warranted, and needed. A lot can change in 2 years. That's why you do what you do and hes making what he does to do this.
@@MyHandleShouldBeLessCharactersExactly, if people listened Stevie said he's tried and it's really hard to move money in the league right now
@@MyHandleShouldBeLessCharacters It was a decision he had to make and said in terms of skill the player we got is supposed to be just as good if not better then walman
@@MyHandleShouldBeLessCharacters Some fans don't understand what goes on behind closed doors that's not spoken on, with not being able to movelneu around the league as Stevie said he tried my guess is Walman was only player under contract without a trade clause and was only player we were able to get rid of in order to free up cap space to retain a draft prospect
