Hi Monique! Yes this is a slight problem with naked number cakes, but there are a few things you can do to prevent this: 1) You can use a pastry brush and brush the sides of the cake generously with simple syrup, 2) cover the sides of the cake with buttercream so it isn't a naked cake, 3) ensure leftovers are covered tightly with cling film or kept in an airtight container and do not place the cake in the fridge. Hope these tips help! :)
Congratulations MK! I have a question. How would you charge for such a cake? Would you charge for the cake that you end up with or the whole sheet cake that you baked?
Thanks Urooj! :D And I would charge for the sheet cake, because in order to get the final product that's something that you have to make (therefore a cost you need to incur - and unfortunately the off-cuts can't really be used to make another cake, unless you make things like cake pops or cakesicles where you can use the off-cuts). It's different to say ingredients, because a 5kg bag of flour for example, can be used to make multiple cakes so the cost of buying the flour is spread across multiple cakes. In this case the cost of the sheet cake can't be spread across multiple cakes because you can't really reuse it, unless like I mentioned earlier, you make cake pops etc. for clients, then you can offset some of the cost onto other orders. Hope that helps :)
Thanks so much! :) I mainly use scraps for cake pops, or you can use them to make other desserts like trifle etc. I've done a video on some ways you can use cake off cuts if you'd like to check it out. Here is the link :) ruclips.net/video/PQWsbY97S5I/видео.html
Thank you so much! :D In terms of the size of the letters, it really depends on how large of a cake you want to make. The one I did in this video was the size of a full A4 page :)
I have to make an 18 cake. Two numbers. Can you advise what size the numbers should be please. Ive never done this before and your tutorials are inspiring and so detailed. Many thanks. Lynn from Northern Ireland
Hi Lynn! So glad to hear you're finding the videos helpful :D. And the size really depends on the size of the tray that you have, but to get the numbers thick enough to decorate like in my video, then I would recommend making the numbers big enough to fit on an A4 sheet of paper and print that out. Hope that helps!
@@lynngibb5704 Yep I do! In the tutorial I mention a website called Canva :) - I give a little demonstration in the video of how I print out my numbers :)
Congratulations I love you I listen and follow you .... Good morning can you tell me the measurements of the batter you use for this cake pan . I'm from Antigua and I saw you using it bought one and now I'm kinda stuck on the right measurements please help
Hi there! Yes you can totally use white chocolate ganache on chocolate cake, and I imagine the flavour combo would taste really good - just make sure your cake isn't overly sweet :)
Hi Rani! This is a oil/butter cake so is already very moist, but yes I do mention later in the video that I forgot to put simple syrup on mine (woops!), and that with these naked number cakes it is really important to make sure you use simple syrup to moisten them as they can dry up quickly - so yes definitely moisten the cake! :)
@@CakesbyMK Thank you so much MK. Also I believe if we make these as 2 layer ones... The moistening has to be less or they can fall apart. Right? Also... Simple syrup means sugar and water. Right?
@@ranisharma9510 No problem! And in order to prevent the cake layers from falling apart, it's best to add the simple syrup to the cake once you've already stacked it so you don't need to move it after that :). And yes simple syrup is equal parts sugar and water :)
@@CakesbyMK Thanks for your prompt reply. But in layer cake... We would have to moisten the bottom layer and then frost it and then put the second top layer and moisten that again... So I am not clear on this as to how could we moisten them after stacking... And simple syrup... Powdered sugar and water just to be mixed... Right?
@@ranisharma9510 you would simply put the simple syrup over each layer before you ice it :). And for the simple syrup you need to use regular granulated sugar. I've done a tutorial on this on my RUclips channel it's linked in the description box. Hope that helps! :)

What inch is your trays for this sheet cake? And did you use your vanilla cake recipe but just used rectangle trays instead?
Hi there! The cake pan I used was 12x8.5x2 inches, and yes I used 1x my vanilla cake recipe per tray :)

Hi MK
Can i ask what size ( h, w & d ) of cake pan you used for your sheet cakes please and where would i get one. Many thanks
