This is like a warm hug from Floor and Nightwish. Tuomas wrote this in 2021 after his fathers passing. It's a tribute to them who was here befor us. It's also a tribute to life it self. Great to se you again Scotland. Take care. Cheers from a finn in Sweden.❤🎉
I was thinking of him and kinda everything I have been through recently. I nearly lost my dad 3 times in the past 14 months (like serious complications with cancer) and although I didn't know Tuomas wrote this for his dad it defo made me think of mine.
Great reaction again. A wonderfully beautiful song. In regards to the stopping and starting. I like the idea of going back 5 or 10 seconds. Gets you back in the groove of the song I think.
A lovely, beautiful reaction! You are so spot on about Tuomas's and Floor's ability to make us feel things, even against our will. I played this song for my 23 year old daughter a few weeks ago and in the middle of the song she hugged me so tight and held on until the end. I get so emotional every time. Floor also got super emotional and broke into tears when Tuomas explained the song, it's meaning and first played it for her. It took multiple takes to record her vocals because she kept breaking into tears. Final song from the final album of the trilogy. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tuomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. A number of references to Auri and other Nightwish songs. Auri is a side project of Tuomas, Troy, and Tuomas's wife Johanna Kurkela ( a well known Finnish pop/folk singer) that makes beautiful atmospheric mood music. "I am in the light and flood" and " I am in the four winds" IMO are shout outs to the Auri songs Light and Flood and The Name of the Wind, very beautiful instrumentals that have a similar feel. For me the line "I am you who climbed off your back" gives me Decades in the Sun vibes and of course "To the meadows I go" is tapping into the same symbolism and meaning as Meadows of Heaven. Heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy. A beautiful tribute to Tuomas's father and all that are the lantern light for our journey through life. I agree with Tuomas, if we have lived a life of joy and meaning then we shouldn't be sad at the end but celebrate a life well lived. I think this song and Epica's Tides of Time will be the songs for my funeral when I pass. You should definitely check out some Auri as well as one of Tuomas's side projects, The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck (Tuomas wrote the album as a soundtrack to the Scrooge McDuck graphic novels by Don Rosa). For Auri I would recommend Desert Flower, The Space Between, and The Valley. For Scrooge I would recommend A Lifetime of Adventure.
You never annoy me, putting the video back slightly would also help you capture the flow I would think. I'm here to watch you experience and react to each song. Lanternlight is breathtakingly gorgeous ❣️ Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul. It’s so fragile and strong at the same time. What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor. Tuomas said that Lanternlight is a song of love to celebrate live of the people that passed. When Floor goes into her emotional mode you can sleep in the finnish winter outside in the woods and still be warmed by her voice and feel comfortable. Much Love from Germany to you and your passionate reactions!
The interesting thing when you discuss Marco v Troy is how Tuomas takes whatever the lineup gives him--Troy, Marco, Tarja, Anette, Floor--and creates a "Nightwish" around that but one that does not try to recreate the old but takes the new baseline and grows from there. He forms Nightwish to the current talent but it is still Nightwish. What an amazing group.
Well, here in the UK we will probably never hear this song over all the bubblegum that is played endlessly. I wish our only hope, Jools Holland would invite Floor to perform on his show. One can dream!

Hello Dear Lady, yes indeed Floor Jansen can make anyone weep, but tears of Joy and happiness, A bit of background for you. Tuomas rote this song when his father passed over, a few years back, and it was the first song he wrote for the new Nightwish Album, Yesterwyned, Also Tuomas Played the Piano when this was recoded, and it is so Beautiful. Thank You so Much, I Loved it. Also, you said some time back that you were going to the do, TGSOE But Live from Tampere, as you had seen the Wembley version of it, please, please do it when you have the time, you will Love it, and so will All your Supports x
Floor's voice only became better during her pregnancy, she stated in an interview that even the lower registers were more pleasant so sing than before. She recorded all her vocals for this album at home, 6 weeks after the birth of Lucy. Sitting, as she still had problems standing, but her voice was in shape as you can hear. About (part of) the movie scenes in the background: I recognized pope Leo XIII and wiki is saying: "Leo XIII, who was born in 1810 and was thus 86 years old in 1896, is considered the earliest-born person ever to be captured on film. The images of him are well-known, and recently were enhanced and colorized on-line.”
Thanks for explaining the relevance of the Pope Leo XIII footage. Not immediately obvious given Tuomas’s Lutheran background. The fact that it’s in false colour seems to fit with bringing Darwin’s natural history collection back to life in the Perfume of the Timeless video.
You sell yourself short 😀I don't know where it came from but it does kind of work. I love Floor, she is literally a generational talent. Emppu, Kai, Marco, all the rest are top tier. But Tuomas is so dammed good at what he does. I've wondered if Tuomas should find a comparable strong, classical metal voice to replace Marco. Mainly for the older songs. Somebody like Dan Vasc might work (and he covers a lot of Nightwish as well). But that's not really Tuomas' style.
This is another Tuomas Holopainen masterpiece. He only keeps on getting better as his talent and vision matures. Absolutely stunning. This composition is as deep as the Marianas Trench and has more layers than a baklava. It is exquisite. I'm 73 and I am the last man standing in my family. I am the last of the Dorrity line. So this performance runs deep, cuts deep. I understand the feeling of loss, yet I still live with hope and intent. No small thing to live with intent. Nevertheless, Floor's voice and this composition is akin to an emotional depth charge to the heart. There is a tenderness and vulnerability there that I have not heard before, and it just breaks you. And her face, good Lord, her beautiful face so expressive and adorned with nothing save her heart and soul just melts me to my core. Look at her gestures, her hands. So tender, so expressive. Her hands are speaking to you as well in a language unto its own. I am not ashamed to say that this staggeringly beautiful composition and the meaning behind it makes me want to cry on Floor’s shoulder. I’m sure she would understand. The poetry of this song is also heart-rendingly exquisite. It is a poem, a prayer, an elegy. Listen to it. Just listen to it. Tuomas’ poetry can easily stand alone. Some of you get it. Some of you don't. I do, and that's all that matters. Kiitos to all of you in Nightwish for delivering such epic and emotional story telling. Addendum: This is more than a song, more than music, really. This is art and poetry of the highest level. in some respects, it is Tuomas' Finnish soul laid bare.
Tuomas said it was Floor's idea for this to be the third music video, and she has also called it her favorite song on the album. So needless to say, she connects with it very well. It will be amazing when they/she gets around to performing it live. I only wonder if it will make it to her solo shows while Nightwish is still on hiatus.
@@themetalmuse I hope so! It fits perfect into her solo setlist, and I've no doubt it will get there eventually. The only question is if she'll perform it before Nightwish has a chance to perform it.
Laternlight, the last song of the Album, hit me like a brick. For me, this song is like a farewell, a hug, a consolation, a hope, a regret, a moving on... a source of strength. Although I already knew the song, the video hit me like a wrecking ball. Floor's gentle yet powerful voice combined with the visuals and Floor's vulnerability... Troy's voice at the end also fits very well for me. The grabbing of the film roll at the end of the film.... For me, this song symbolizes the farewell of someone who is leaving us at the very end of their life (they say that at the moment of death you see your life flash before your eyes, which the video somehow symbolizes for me). It symbolizes the sadness of parting, but also the promise that you will somehow always be with those left behind (family, children, friends), because no one leaves the world completely. Don't mourn for me, i had a fullfiled life, but be happy that we were able to spend our time together. Think of me ... for I am in the snowflake in your hands ... in the soil of your garden ... and I go before you in the circle of life ... to new shores, a new journey ...
Floor's lower register is my favourite part of her range. Tuomas started writing the album in Jan 2021 and on Feb 6th his father died. This song is at least in part a tribute to him, but aldo, in keeping with the whole theme of the album, a tribute to all our ancestors. There is a lot of reference to how people live on in the world around us (atoms and molecules recycled into moss, stream, water etc). It hits me because it reminds me of my father's death in 2020 from Covid. My favourite track from the album and I think, that of many others. Your videos are never annoying, always beautiful. Going back a few seconds helps re-establish the flow.
10:44 "Just gimme Floor". Oh absolutely. The only thing I liked abt Troy on this track was the use of his low hum as a sound-effect. That's about all it should be. He's simply not a lead vocalist and should have the good sense to refrain from getting in Floor's way. The overuse of Troy as a vocalist on this album has also been addressed by Floor herself in a recent interview. She talks about missing Marko while wondering how some of the new songs would've sounded if he had sung the male parts instead of Troy.
Hi Dom, greetings from down south Awesome reaction as always. I love your 'ramblings' because you are trying to articulate a feeling and you do get there (eventually) 😁. I really appreciate the way you try to accurately describe what you are feeling, no matter how long it takes Regarding the pausing and rewind, Personally, I think if you stopped because you admire something you just heard then by going back we can all enjoy that moment again. If you stop and the comment doesn't relate to what we just immediately heard, then feel free to carry on from that point. As I say, just my personal opinion there Floor is not just a singer,, she is also a damned fine actress. Her slow movements and full attention absorbed in what she is doing all contribute to her telling of the story. She is captivating
Musical perfection - as I'm sure someone has told you, Tuomas wrote this for his Father following his passing in 2021, he said its a tribute to and a celebration of a life well lived, for those who lit the way ahead for us. With regard to Troy's vocal towards the end, i have a feeling that is to represent Tuomas's father, the lyric 'i walk now towards the tree's, the night falling at my feet, into the forest of Yesterwynde'. Thats how i feel this anyway. For me, this is possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard, it doesn't get better.
The feedback you asked: You are definitely doing the right thing by backing up after a pause. It helps to maintain the flow of a transition. And first time listeners have no idea where the key, critical transitions are going to be, so more often than not, a pause is selected right at a key moment that breaks the mood. A backup fixes this issue nicely. A convenient way to do consistent backups is to use the left cursor key. It will reliably drop you back five seconds for each click. Makes no difference to us on the listening end, but it prob'ly makes it easier for you.
I have tried to imagine what this would sound like live, Floor in full health, full power.. I mean, the track generates tears, live might spoil my enjoyment of other music thereafter. Tuomas and Floor are an incomparable pairing of composition and emotive interpretation:)
You need to go back exactly 7 seconds when you pause.🤪 Seriously, I think Nightwish folk get scared by reviewers that don’t rewind for fear of killing continuity. IMO, stopping at a paragraph (sentence -> phrase… paragraph -> ?) does not need rewinding. *Excellent* reaction!
Blimey - you had me going there for a bit😅. But seriously, I think Nightwish were a little worried when a lot of the reactors and subscribers were crying - so much so that Tuomas produced a short video explaining that it's not a sad song but one of happiness. I think of my late Father when I hear this, with fond remeberence of his life and how he moulded myself and my Brothers into the people we are today. I think coupled with Floor's voice - it would melt the hardest of hearts don't you? 😊
As I said on your last video - this is THE song of 2024 for me. Marko is a great singer, of course. I like Troy's voice and think it suits this type of song, albeit in small doses. I'm not sure I would feel quite the same with Marko doing the same lines. But then I guess we'll never know how that might have turned out.
True. However, Marko sang some soft gentle melodic stuff in Hamburg this year and I was like "oh wow I didn't know he could do it like that too". He was really impressive on stage and so was Tarja.
After you listen to the whole album I think you'll understand why Troy is featured on this song. Vocally he plays a much larger role this time out, singing on several songs together with Floor and their chemistry together is woven throughout the album from the first song to the last, to great effect in my opinion.
Yes, it was a Pope. Not the current one, but one of the first people ever to have been filmed. Tuomas had remarked that seeing colourised images of old black and white photographs made him feel a connection to those people. He wondered if there was a word for that feeling, so he and Troy concocted the word Yesterwynde to describe that winding path that everyone travels on between birth and death.
Backing up a few seconds is a good idea. It's more for you rather than us. If you pause just before an epic change, it will lose its surprise value to you. Yes, it was Pope Leo XIII (1810-1903). Good catch. Floor recorded her vocals in six days for the entire album in her home studio after giving birth six weeks prior. Wonder Woman! 😄🤘
11:05 There is a big misconception among some people that "Troy replaced Marko" and therefore they are unhappy because Troy's voice is different.. But, firstly, Troy sang in the band for quite a long time (the first song with him was "The Crow, the Owl and the Dove" from the 2011 album, Imaginaerum, when Anette was still in the band), and secondly he didn't replace Marko - yes, he had to sing some of Marko's parts in old songs during the last tour, but otherwise those songs would have just been thrown out of the setlist. But on the new album there were initially no songs written for Marko because Marko had already left the band by that time - Tuomas wrote all Troy's parts specifically for him, keeping in mind exactly Troy's voice and capabilities. I think Troy definitely doesn't deserve the dislike in many of the comments and reactions I've seen, since the release of the new album, just because people miss Marko.
I think Troy was perfect for the end of the song. I love this song...and as many times I have listened to the CD, this song brings tears to my eye's! So don't apologize for crying! Yes..there was a Pope in the last part of the song! Tuomas is writing and composing some of the best music with his last 3 albums! To me....there is only one other musician / composer I have heard in my life that Tuomas can be compared to....and that is "Sir Elton John!". His album, " Blue Moves" is spectacular! Try listening to his song "Tonight" and "I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues!" Pure beauty!
Tuomas wrote this for his late father and I think Troy's part at the end was on purpose (not just to give him something to do), to have older man's voice finish the story (and album).
Yes, Troy vocals are unnecessary in most songs, he doesn't have the voice to sing with Floor. But it seems like Nightwish is becoming Troywish & Tuomaswish, it seems like Troy wants to sing in almost every song, contributing almost nothing with his vocals, and Tuomas accepts it.
The song Sway is the weakest song in the album and guess who sings it... Maybe one of the reasons Marko left is because Marko's voice was being underused in the last Nightwish albums and Troy's voice was and is being over used, even though Marko is a much better singer.
Floor can touch your soul...she means and lives every word she sings.
Thanks for the great reaction❤
This sad song is full of happiness and gratitude ❤ We Finnish people have that kind of state of mind ❤✨️
Not only is this masterpiece becoming my favorite Nightwish song it is becoming one of my favorite songs of all time. Floor is the best hands down.

I have secured myself a ticket for next year, so I am hoping she will sing this.
@@themetalmuse I hope so! It fits perfect into her solo setlist, and I've no doubt it will get there eventually. The only question is if she'll perform it before Nightwish has a chance to perform it.
italy still here 😉❤
Laternlight, the last song of the Album, hit me like a brick.
This whole album is amazing. I didn't know what to expect without Marco. I honestly like just Troy and Floor singing in tandem in this album.
Great reaction! Stunning vocal from Floor - so what else is new, right?
10:44 "Just gimme Floor". Oh absolutely. The only thing I liked abt Troy on this track was the use of his low hum as a sound-effect. That's about all it should be. He's simply not a lead vocalist and should have the good sense to refrain from getting in Floor's way.
The overuse of Troy as a vocalist on this album has also been addressed by Floor herself in a recent interview. She talks about missing Marko while wondering how some of the new songs would've sounded if he had sung the male parts instead of Troy.
Hi Dom, greetings from down south
Awesome reaction as always. I love your 'ramblings' because you are trying to articulate a feeling and you do get there (eventually) 😁. I really appreciate the way you try to accurately describe what you are feeling, no matter how long it takes
Regarding the pausing and rewind, Personally, I think if you stopped because you admire something you just heard then by going back we can all enjoy that moment again. If you stop and the comment doesn't relate to what we just immediately heard, then feel free to carry on from that point. As I say, just my personal opinion there
Floor is not just a singer,, she is also a damned fine actress. Her slow movements and full attention absorbed in what she is doing all contribute to her telling of the story. She is captivating
Hi TMM, please check out Floors Sister Irene Jansen with the song Rise
You need to go back exactly 7 seconds when you pause.🤪
Seriously, I think Nightwish folk get scared by reviewers that don’t rewind for fear of killing continuity.
Floor Mamma Goddes caresses our ears again.
A 'Magic Lantern' was the name of an early film projector. I wonder if the film behind Floor is a compilation of some of the earliest films made?
The album begins with the film projector sound & ends the same way. Please react to the entire album it's excellent.
"Jack of all trades, master of none". Floor is a "Jill of all trades, master of ALL".
Thanks
I kind of agree with you on Troy's vocals. I love the man as a musician and love his background harmonies but I don't think he's a strong solo singer.
Floor's contralto is equal to her soprano - and equally affecting.
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
You should really make reactions to songs which don't have a video but are on YT. I think the weave will also blow your mind.
Also, a slight correction to your description notes. Yesterwynde is their 10th studio album not the fourth.

Pope Pius XII, I guess.... I'm old enough to have the same thought. And you're not...but nevertheless...
I see nor hear any "Mucking"
Find myself humming some of the songs from this brilliant album 😊
