For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself. Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.
I just bought one and I am liking it . I am in the construction trade so I use a lot of Milwaukee tools so this is one reason I went for their weed trimmer . It was easy to assemble and easy to use also no need for gas or oil . I would recommend it .
The 9ah and 12ah batteries will run this baby for days. Just got mine today and I dropped my 12ah in it and trimmed about 1800 feet of property line and it didn't flinch. This trimmer is amazing and I like it much better than the DeWalt I have been using.
I do recommend getting the 6 amp hour battery when purchasing this unit.It does go through the 2amp hour battery quickly when on the rabbit setting. But if you have several of the 2 amp hour batteries and you don’t mind the time it takes to swap a battery out for a fresher one,you can get by. It works great-no cord to pull,no fuel to mix and the power is exceptional. The Easy Load system for the trimming line is as easy as it gets.
Can someone help?, I bought a Milwaukee strimmer and I am trying to figure out what this part is in my hand, it looks like a plastic deep impact socket (smooth inside, closed at one end), a hanger at the top and a lock-unlock window in the middle, its bugging the hell out of me not knowing what it is, and nothing in the instructions!

Great review! Really liked how the head is re-strung. I've owned numerous others and most are are pain to restring. Great point on putting the right brand on string. Thanks!
Thanks for the in depth review. I'm pretty well invested in M-18 so I was going to buy this unit anyway but now I feel very positive about the purchase.
Yea the power on battery is nothing either and its not even close to up to par for professionals. I own a Milwaukee quick lock string trimmer and I love it but I only use it for edging lawns or small patches of weeds. Any larger areas I get out the gas string trimmer. I've overheated several batteries with the Milwaukee quick lock string trimmer on a hot day too. They really have their limits.
I got this after returning a Dewalt. I’m a landscaper so I put these through a true torture test. Leave the guard on or it will overheat. Don’t use heavy or thicker string or it will over heat.
Any tips how to avoid wrist pain when holding the throttle down for extended periods? Usually takes me an hour to do my place and my hand/wrist gets really locked up.
So glad i watched this. I have the original string trimmer and really want the newer quick lock model to get the edger.. this is NOT quick lock compatible - which the fuel model (2825) IS.
I'm confused, because having had the ego powerhead system for years what you're describing is exactly how Ego's powerhead operates. I'm guessing the last time you touched an Ego Powerhead has been a while, because it's instant, except the full power windup. Takes maybe 1 second to get to full speed.
It is super powerful and a blast to use. The torque it has is amazing. But it is really heavy and unbalanced. I fight with the shoulder strap to make it comfortable.
Odd that this isn't a fuel model tool, at least it's still brushless - that's the main draw. I wonder if there will be a gen 2 Fuel replacement, and that it will even outclass this one. How much more is there to really improve? and would it be worth the price increase? We shall see. This one looks good enough though.
I love my Milwaukee 288-20,however I can not get it to feed out the string. I have had this trimmer for over a year and now getting started this year, it doesn't string feed out. What can this problem be solved. I take really good care of this, had checked, no parts are broken.
I would like to try it, I have second GEN, not impressed. As a lawn care guy, the Stihl FS94 and Echo PAS 2620 put the Milwaukee split shaft to shame with throttle response and power. Plus I can’t carry enough batteries to last a day for a lawn care application. However, I love the second GEN split shaft for the pruning, edging and hedge trimmer attachments. What is the point for the split shaft that you permanently bolt together...shipping? The one handed arm thing, yeah I agree. The Stihl gas FS94 fits the same. Thanks for the great video! As always you cover it all and do a great job.
This is exactly what I want ego to do less start up speed ....trying to scalp beds when there is no low end throws debris everywhere and makes you not as accurate and you cut plants by accident at times
I just picked me one up. This is the 2and time I've used it and it was smoking from the motor. It didn't smell like a motor burning. It was early in the morning so I was wondering was it just dew on the grass have you ever noticed yours doing thism
This one has the connection coupling in the middle like the quik-lok's. Is this a weed eater only or a quik-lok. I was looking at there 2725-20. Which is just the straight shaft with no in between coupling. Wouldn't the 2725-20 be a dedicated string trimmer? What's the difference in your's and that one?
I have just purchased this and already tried once and wanted to know better the recommended holding posture of the tool which I got at the end if the vid. Many thanks from Hungary!
I'm looking at getting a trimmer and edger combo, like the Milwaukee Quik-Lok system to use at my house. You say that this trimmer is your favorite. You also review the Dewalt 60V FLEXVOLT 2 weeks after this review. Which system would you go with? Or for a multi-tool system, would you recommend something else like the ECHO 225 PAS? 2 stage fuel and engine maintenance can be a pain, but the batteries ain't cheap either. - Homeowner Lawncare Newbie in RI.
I bought one about 6 months ago. I love it. I’ve sold all my gas powered tools except riding mower. I’ll eventually replace the mower but my guess we are still 10 years off of a zero turn 60” deck with 1.5 hours of run time.
@@bret9741 agreed! I just bought 3 of the quick locks on special buy from Home Depot, total of 6 8mah batteries. Not putting the Stihl on the trailer this year, as of now :). Good luck to ya!
Good review. I think you're video got me off the fence. I read your response in the comments and if I understand correctly with the motor relocated to the cutting head the balance is better ?Thanks and have a good one from West Tennessee
Yes, with larger batteries on the back, you need so.ething up front to balance it out well. Most dedicated string trimmers that are battery have the motor in the head.
That head looks like a variation (maybe a license?) of the Echo SpeedFeed 400 or 450. I was going to ask what line you use; I’m gonna guess from the color and the sound it makes, that it originally came loaded with Echo CrossFire? I’m on my 2nd DeWalt 20V; I replaced the existing head with a smaller Echo SpeedFeed (which I’d bought for about $10 non-retail from Bourlier’s in Clinton Township). I feel like this places less load on the motor & gearbox, and maybe let’s it spun faster. I obviously can’t prove this 😀 Husqvarna string didn’t play nice with it. I used some string from Meijer’s, then when that ran out I went back to the Echo Crossfire line it had originally been loaded with. SO MUCH BETTER. It really rips stuff up and seems to last longer (at least in my mind). It does buzz much more but worth it.
@@hayden199516 In another comment he said that this dedicated version is lighter and he said he prefers the trigger on this one more. I bought the quik-lok a year ago with all the attachments: edger, string trimmer, hedge trimmer, pole saw, and extension bar. All the attachments work great. Only had it a year for homeowner use so no telling how long it will last but the attachments save storage space in a garage. I run it with two 8 amp hour batteries (high output). Power head has a low and high setting. The high setting is recommended for the pole saw, hedge trimmer, and edger. The string trimmer only needs the high setting in very thick/high grass. All attachments have plenty of power. The hedge trimmer will cut very thick branches, up to 3/4"-1", though I don't make a habit of cutting very thick branches with it to preserve the blade. I would rather just get a lopper/chainsaw. If you're used to gas, it will seem odd not hearing the roar of a gas engine and will give you an initial first impression that the equipment "sounds" weak and under-powered but not. It's jut odd getting used to using equipment that has this kind of power but is very quiet at the same time. Pole saw works great. Easily cuts large branches. Automatic oiler drools oil but that seems common these days.
@@fredcurrier5912 I'm assuming you mean the responsiveness of the trigger when using the trimmer attachement. Let me know if you are talking about something else. It's very good. It "feels" like a gas trigger. No exaggeration here. I've read that some electric trimmers don't have a responsive trigger but this is not one of them. The ramp-up time is almost non-existent, especially on the "high" power setting.
I’ve had mine for about a year now. It’s the fuel model too. Just recently it started to overheat i think. I use the 8.0 battery for about 30 minutes then switch to the 6.0. When I switch to the 6 it starts to shut off randomly and then constantly. I don’t know if it’s the battery or if it’s just overheating. I don’t know what to do maybe it’s a warranty issue or maybe I should just stick with the 8.0 batteries
Hi, will this perform with wild growth in a country cottage? the video shows it trimming low lawn grass but what if you put it to a more challenging environment with higher bits of brush/wild grass? Will it perform well with 5amph batteries?
My stihl does not have the autoload, but it can be added. The Stihl is like a brand new BMW and the Milwaukee is like a KIA. The Stihl is much more refined and smooth. They both get the job done, but are hard to compare to each other.
Currently, FUEL is quick loc and the motor is by the battery. Brushless model has the motor in the head. There will be better balance to the brushless and a better trigger, but fuel has more power.
I own the M18 trimmer and it is an animal. I have the 9 amp battery and it will easily trim my front and back yard and my backyard is very large. Usually, I have two bars left or more on the battery. The power is second to none and I am guessing it is the most powerful electric string trimmer available, however I have not used the Ego trimmer, which also is supposed to have a lot of power. I did have one time where the trimmer overheated when I was cutting heavy brush and 4' tall weeds. Other than that, I have never had a problem with it.
I'm looking to put this trimmer (tool-only) on my Father's day wish list. I already have a couple of Red Lithium XC 4.0 packs that came with my M18 Fuel drill and impact driver kit. Is there any reason I could not use these packs with this trimmer? Thanks!
You "can" run them on this trimmer but they will overheat quickly and the trimmer will suffer in power and runtime. This unit needs the battery technology and power from a 6Ah or higher.
How does this compare to the Ryobi 40V HP Brushless Carbon Fiber Shaft trimmer? Which is better, lighter, more power, longer run time, cost, quieter, less vibration, quality?

very similar experience here, but it happened after about 35-40min. I will give it another chance in about 2 more weeks, if it does the same, it is going back to HD.
So they might have the same RPM scale, but the Q-Loc has more speed from 0 to max. But the QL does not have the control in the trigger like this one. So, while I love the speed and power of the QL, I like this one better for the trigger.
I just bought ine..one... I know you said they're compatible with any line of batteries but noticed you were running red lithium... Are they compatible with m18 fuel line batteries...?
I haven't tried it yet but I got my batteries a few years ago... and seem to run my impact just fine.... I just wanted to k ow if they'll work on the weedwacker... I have yet to pull them out and try them... I believe I do have some red lithium batteries too.
@@WorkshopAddict okay yah, I got them off ebay and some didn't work on my impacg so... I figured the batteries were of a different product line from m18 fuel... But that was probably it... got to watch ebay... thanks great video...
Huh, so for someone who won't really use a hedge trimmer, pole saw or edger much(at least for the next few years), would you recommend this over their quick lock version? I have 3 5.0ah batteries, would the loss of power warrant purchasing a 6.0ah as well?
I would as this has less moving parts and a better trigger. To me, it is more enjoyable to use. I would try it with the 5.0Ah batteries and see if you are happy and then move up if you do not want to buy this as a kit. I think runtime will be less and your battery will heat up more during use with a 5.0.
@@WorkshopAddict I was having a look and can't seem to find the 2828-20 available in Australia. They have the quick-lock model and another 18v line trimmer model(M18CLT-0) but it's more your standard trimmer with the motor near the trigger and a run-of-the-mill head and spool... And it's only $30 less than the quick-lock... The fast load head would almost warrant the extra $30. I've messaged the local Milwaukee dealer about the 2828-20 though, hopefully it's just a matter of waiting for stock or something cause it looks really good.
There are two tabs that you can see on the side of the trimmer head. You push them in and pull the bottom of the head down. You will be able to see the spools when removed.
@@WorkshopAddict Some of my guys enjoy running it without the guard on. I guess it’s more comfortable. I can’t really envision a 16” swath right now lol, but they tend to leave the string pretty long for cutting steep pond hillsides or small yard fronts where it’s just more efficient to weedwack it nice and clean than dragging the push mower out. In our application the grass is mowed every week so tall grass isn’t really a factor/issue.
I ran this without the guard it kept cutting out. I don’t know if that is the issue, I returned it. Oddly enough had my gen 1 repaired my Milwaukee they replaced the motor and that one cuts out too. They didn’t send the guard back with trimmer. So I don’t know if it’s the motors or running without the guard.
No, I do not think it is more powerful. It is different with the motor in the trimmer head rather than in the back by the battery. I like the ergonomics of this better and the trigger on this is 100 times better.
Excuse me but what is the difference between a 14" guard and a 16" other than the obvious 2" but what would u need that option? Sorry for the stupid question.
If everything was equal, there is more potential to get more power from 40 volts, BUT, that is not always the case in the real world. People build fast 4 and 6 cylinder cars that would out run some V8's, but with the right parts, the V8 will normally be faster.
How does this compare to the M18 Quik Lok power head? Thanks for all the great videos. I’ve been a long time subscriber and you’re my go to channel for tool reviews.
The power is similar, but the powerhead has more overall power and much more snap to the power. The string trimmer has an amazing trigger and better balance.
@@WorkshopAddict I see Home Depot has the split unit on sale with a extra tool. Is it better to get the split or buy separate units due to power? I really need a trimmer and an edger.
@@MWDAdventures The quick look version is nice and powerful with a sheety trigger. But for what you are looking for, it will do everything you want for less than two dedicated models.
I feel like they could have gave it a little more battery life by putting the motor at the end, closer to the trim head, and put the battery on the other end, to balance it out.
Has anyone had any issues with this overheating and not wanting to run? I've read alot of reviews that mention this. They have said after 10 to 20 min this issue starts happening
I just bought one and have mixed feelings about it so far. I might wind up taking it back if the line spooling issue doesnt resolve. I havent used any weed trimmer for a few years and I do have a 10 yard old (non-bump type) Black and Decker Wired to AC 12' inch, and a landscaper that has done all my yardwork for years.. but I have a current / new need for a cordless in an area that would require 3 or 4 each 50ft extension cords in line to cover it.. so knowing this cordless trimmer avoids that cord hassle and the safety issues around storing Gas and oil in my garage.. I decided to get it since it was on sale at Home Depot for $179 in a box which included the Power Charger and a 6.0 battery. That battery alone is that cost, if bought separately, so I couldnt refuse the deal . Pro's: the trigger action, balance and ease of use are great. The battery will last a LONG time and after about 45 minutes of continuous use I'll need a break anyway, so I can recharge it then, and come back in an hour or more to a full charge. It is well built and I believe the trimmer will last. The Cons: the stupid L Shaped Torx allen wrench provided is about a half inch too short on the business leg, so you can only make 1/8th of a turn on the bolts at a time since it bumps against other pieces and you cant make a full turn with it. I fially got a power drill with the right Torx head adapter bit and that helped a lot but that stupid mistale on Milwaukee's part in not spending the 2 cents to give us a proper tool to assemble it really set my 1st impression to near zero. The next issue I encountered is that it simply would not cut the brush I was dealing with .. Its perfectly fine with grass as you can see in this video, but I was trying to clear a lot where the weeds hadn't been cleared for over 5 years and they were standing like tumble weed with 1 inck stalks growing 4 to 5 feet tall.. What I need is a circular saw blade head not a weed whacker head.. But anyway that's on me.. for normal weeds and smaller brush it worked fine on all that smaller stuff around the edges of the lot. I will up diging this tall stuff out with a Pick Ax blade because no battery powered weed whacker made can do it (I believe). and the gas powered units that can will cost 3X as much. This model doesn't fold easily NOR does it appear to allow you to use other types of heads like a metal saw blade or hedge trimmer .. and thats a bummer. The main problem I had tho was that after about 15 minutes of use ( one battery bar down of 4) I ran into a problem where the line bound up inside the circular head and "bumping" it on the ground and tugging on the lines wouldn't fixit. The line was only spooled out 1 inch on both sides and tugging on it did not help. You don't mention it in this video but I learned in others that you need to bump it while the head is spinning fast at a high rate for the cintrifigul force to expel it .. I believe I will be able to disassemble the head and unspool all the line, and re-spool it back on easily to resolve this now that I have watched a few YT vids have a clue how it works... I see how to load the line very easily and operate the tool's Bump-auto-feed properly. I need to test that today tho. If it still has clogging up issues I will return it.. I had been assuming that you'd need to stop spinning the head and then bump it .. and did not read the operators manual, so I wasn't operating it properly. Thanks for a great review video .. i gott a run and fnnish the job in that 50 by 150 foot lot full of tall brush. ug.. Update: yesterday I unspooled the clogged .95 line, and re-spooled it then went to work using the trimmer. It did a really good job gor a solid 40 minutes. I appreciate the power of the unit as it plows thru thick grasse and batterylife of the 6.0 is very good. The issue I had with the line clogging never re-occured now that I learned to bump it only with the head-speed up. I'm keeping it.
I bought the 2825-21st a month ago. The thing is a beast, and I love having the option to upgrade with different heads. The included battery gets my whole yard finished and retains 2 bars. About 3/4 an acre.
The brush guard sucks. The trimmer spits a lot of stuff back at you and the guard has big cutouts on each side that lets a bunch of stuff through. Other than that, so far so good. I had an Ego that I really liked, until the auto-load feature failed on the original and the replacement they sent me. Once it fails, you cant load string. If Ego ever fixes that design flaw, I will switch back.
@opfor5092 That is one thing I never understood about the ego autofeed. It was one more thing that could go wrong and it did not need to be "fixed". Standard quick feed heads are just fine.
Well the first thing I did was toss the head in the trash ! I went with the speed feed head a lot better head . As far as the chain saw head it’s trash . I gave milwaukee string trimmers a chance on the lawn care business and you need a ton of batteries . Things I did like was lite and quite . They are slower than gas by far .

@@WorkshopAddict where do you buy the Milwaukee trimmer
Thanks for the in depth review. I'm pretty well invested in M-18 so I was going to buy this unit anyway but now I feel very positive about the purchase.
The vibration on battery operated is nothing compared to gas which leaves your hands numb for half-hour
Lol, I use a Ryobi 4-Stroke and my hands don’t feel numb at all after extended use.
Another great video. Don't they do a shoulder sling for it for us oldies?
I got this after returning a Dewalt. I’m a landscaper so I put these through a true torture test. Leave the guard on or it will overheat. Don’t use heavy or thicker string or it will over heat.
What’s the thickest string that can be used. Can you use a 2.5mm?
Any tips how to avoid wrist pain when holding the throttle down for extended periods? Usually takes me an hour to do my place and my hand/wrist gets really locked up.
So glad i watched this. I have the original string trimmer and really want the newer quick lock model to get the edger.. this is NOT quick lock compatible - which the fuel model (2825) IS.
Any thoughts on the Milwaukee M18 DUAL BATTERY string trimmer? Please advise...Thanks.
I'm confused, because having had the ego powerhead system for years what you're describing is exactly how Ego's powerhead operates.
I'm guessing the last time you touched an Ego Powerhead has been a while, because it's instant, except the full power windup. Takes maybe 1 second to get to full speed.
I have one and love it! I won't own any battery operated tools unless it's Milwaukee and I have about 30 different tools from Milwaukee
Any thoughts on the Milwaukee M18 DUAL BATTERY string trimmer? Please advise...Thanks.
It is super powerful and a blast to use. The torque it has is amazing. But it is really heavy and unbalanced. I fight with the shoulder strap to make it comfortable.
@@WorkshopAddict Thank you...was thinking the weight would suck also. Thank you. Have a great night.
Would like to see a 9k rpm
They already have a fuel one
I love my Milwaukee 288-20,however I can not get it to feed out the string. I have had this trimmer for over a year and now getting started this year, it doesn't string feed out. What can this problem be solved. I take really good care of this, had checked, no parts are broken.
How do I change the entire line head? Other models show a pin going into gearbox but I don't see a spot for the pin provided.
I also have the PAS2620 power head. Love it, straight shaft power edger and pro torque trimmer. Beast mode
This will not accept any other attachment. The split shaft here is for easy of shipping and shelving for sale.
This is exactly what I want ego to do less start up speed ....trying to scalp beds when there is no low end throws debris everywhere and makes you not as accurate and you cut plants by accident at times
100 percent. People always think you just need lots of speed. Not the case. You need control.
I now own and use all of the Quick-lock system and Love it all .
Any thoughts on the Milwaukee M18 DUAL BATTERY string trimmer? Please advise...Thanks.
Hi. Thank you. Can you use a ordinary 6AH battery ? I have a new one or dies it need to be the high output battery?
Yes you can
I just picked me one up. This is the 2and time I've used it and it was smoking from the motor. It didn't smell like a motor burning. It was early in the morning so I was wondering was it just dew on the grass have you ever noticed yours doing thism
Is it all electronics at the top? Mechanical full bottom end and could just wash it with the hose?
Motor is on the bottom but you can wash it.
I have the version prior, non quick lock, and absolutely love it. What are the differences?
Better motor and trigger. Technology upgrade.
So if you had to choose would you go with the Milwaukee or Stihl? Also running on high how long do you get off a charge?
I obviously can’t prove this 😀
Husqvarna string didn’t play nice with it. I used some string from Meijer’s, then when that ran out I went back to the Echo Crossfire line it had originally been loaded with. SO MUCH BETTER. It really rips stuff up and seems to last longer (at least in my mind). It does buzz much more but worth it.
I use Stihl round line.
Have you used the quick lock version? I was looking at a kit of several tools included. Would like it if the tool holds up.
Yes, it rocks!
@@WorkshopAddict do you believe the quick lock version is comparable to this unit? I love my quick lock system!
@@slylockfox85 , how's the trigger on the Quik-Lok? I'm thinking of getting the trimmer and edger.
Thank you, this is the most informative video I've found on this unit.
Hi, will this perform with wild growth in a country cottage? the video shows it trimming low lawn grass but what if you put it to a more challenging environment with higher bits of brush/wild grass? Will it perform well with 5amph batteries?
in my personal experience, It will get the job done but you will need to be easy on it or it will over heat constantly.
Is the Milwaukee better than the Stihl you have ? Stihl doesn’t have an auto load feature for the string, right?
My stihl does not have the autoload, but it can be added. The Stihl is like a brand new BMW and the Milwaukee is like a KIA. The Stihl is much more refined and smooth. They both get the job done, but are hard to compare to each other.
@@WorkshopAddict so true but I would say Milwaukee is more like a Toyota, it’s reliable! 🙌🏼👏🏼 lol but yes definitely hard to compare
Used mine very lightly 3 times just testing it around the house, now it won't spin at all. Hope milwaukee honors their warranty at least.
How does this compare in power to the new Ryobi 40 volt HP brushless 15 inch attachment capable string trimmer?
it's not bad, I like the two speed button but I miss the moveable handle on my old ryobi cordless as well, then again I'm down to 3 chargers from 5.
So what's the difference with the "Fuel"version? Just the quick lock adjustment?
Currently, FUEL is quick loc and the motor is by the battery. Brushless model has the motor in the head. There will be better balance to the brushless and a better trigger, but fuel has more power.
@@WorkshopAddict Thanks for the input
I own the M18 trimmer and it is an animal. I have the 9 amp battery and it will easily trim my front and back yard and my backyard is very large. Usually, I have two bars left or more on the battery. The power is second to none and I am guessing it is the most powerful electric string trimmer available, however I have not used the Ego trimmer, which also is supposed to have a lot of power.
I did have one time where the trimmer overheated when I was cutting heavy brush and 4' tall weeds. Other than that, I have never had a problem with it.
Can you remove the guard on this? Also any issues with batteries overheating?. I had that issue with my Dewalt trimmer
How do you extend the line from 14' to 16"
I'm doing part time lawn maintenance. Do you think this could hold up to it? I already have multiple Milwaukee batteries
How does this compare to the Ryobi 40V HP Brushless Carbon Fiber Shaft trimmer? Which is better, lighter, more power, longer run time, cost, quieter, less vibration, quality?
Milwaukee is better than the Ryobi CF in all areas, even weight.
My Milwaukee M 18 trimmer turns off and on after I use it for around 16 minutes is this defective or is that a problem with all of them ?
My problem with bump heads is that they seam to be quite tall, is there a lot of space between the bottom and the line?
No, maybe an inch.

I have seen some of the new Stihl stuff. I cannot remember the numbers.
Anyone know how to take the bump feed head completely off for a brush blade? Or if he says it in this video can someone link the time stamp?
Huh, so for someone who won't really use a hedge trimmer, pole saw or edger much(at least for the next few years), would you recommend this over their quick lock version?
I have 3 5.0ah batteries, would the loss of power warrant purchasing a 6.0ah as well?
I would as this has less moving parts and a better trigger. To me, it is more enjoyable to use. I would try it with the 5.0Ah batteries and see if you are happy and then move up if you do not want to buy this as a kit. I think runtime will be less and your battery will heat up more during use with a 5.0.

Have you ever ran it without the guard on? I'm really interested in this unit but wonder if it could handle a longer string length with the guard off.
It could run without the guard. It does have the power for more swath, but 16" is pretty good. May I ask what use lends you to want more?
@@WorkshopAddict Some of my guys enjoy running it without the guard on. I guess it’s more comfortable. I can’t really envision a 16” swath right now lol, but they tend to leave the string pretty long for cutting steep pond hillsides or small yard fronts where it’s just more efficient to weedwack it nice and clean than dragging the push mower out. The line cutter can be changed to cut the line shorter or longer for runtime.
Why is the 40v less than the 18v? Shouldn’t the 40v be better?
If everything was equal, there is more potential to get more power from 40 volts, BUT, that is not always the case in the real world. People build fast 4 and 6 cylinder cars that would out run some V8's, but with the right parts, the V8 will normally be faster.

How does this compare to the M18 Quik Lok power head? Thanks for all the great videos. I’ve been a long time subscriber and you’re my go to channel for tool reviews.

So wich one is the best?
I own this setup thanks to you. That Deere looks clean in the back. What year and Model is it?

I like this trigger better. This dedicated string trimmer is lighter and more balanced as you would expect.
@@WorkshopAddict thats good. I like my quik lock but the trigger is kind of wonky. I'll have to get one of these when they go on sale
I love mine even with my 5 amp hour battery. I would agree a 6 amp hour battery would be better.
I have 5 amp batteries... so your saying 5 amps does the trick . I don't have a larger area..
How long does it last with a 5 amp?
Well the first thing I did was toss the head in the trash ! I went with the speed feed head a lot better head . As far as the chain saw head it’s trash . I gave milwaukee string trimmers a chance on the lawn care business and you need a ton of batteries . Things I did like was lite and quite . They are slower than gas by far .
There are few to none battery string trimmers that would effectively work for commercial. Investing in the batteries to do that is a serious expense.
