Ryoma, Rutger, Joshua's great too. But I get it. Luck-based dodging and critting is unreliable, so they're generally inferior. That won't stop me from using them and doing cool edgy crits!
You forgot the astra sword in Gaiden and Echoes. Swordmasters are good in Thracia, Binding Blade, Radient Dawn, and Three Houses. Also maybe Stefan in Path of Radiance
People been saying this for years now. "Swordmaster is actually a doo-doo class" "Swordmasters? more like.. Dungmasters" Yet, in every.single.entry. Good or bad, people still use them. Myself included lol
The actual fuck are you talking about, Rutger is one ofnif not the best unit in FE6, Ryoma can singlehandedly beat the entirety of birthrite and rev. Added crit paired with very high avo is incredibly good
@@Chrii1s The defense stat likely wont matter for swordmasters as a class because they always relied on a combination of vantage high avoid and high crit to put in work, your argument of swordmasters being bad in FE7/8 is the exception, crit added to swordmasters is only reduced in 2 of the 11 games swordmasters are in. In the other 9 games swordmasters are consistently atleast above average
But if they don't dodge then half their health is gone, crit is not reliable, low movement is an issue especially in fe4, a lack of ranged options, plus some swordmasters do little damage or have weapon disadvantage against a majority of the enemies
counterpoint:
rutger
Well, you got me there
This class is the definition of dogetanking as a vaible strategy

Swordmasters are a really cool class! I'll use them even if they're bad.
GETTING SERIOUS PTSD FROM THE SOUND BITE AT 20 SECS, POOR SUBARU

But those are the exception, other characters like Marissa and Lyn are harder to train up, are in games that have lower crit, and have low defense
