Can we just talk about the fact that HIMYM had the most absolute PERFECT music choices? So many times throughout the series I found myself trying to discover what song was playing in several different episodes. And they could not have picked a better song to end this legendary series. ❤️

HIMYM had easily the greatest soundtrack for any TV series ever made. They found some deep cuts I used to love and forgot about then reminded me how much I still love them. They also introduced me to bands I hadn't heard of that have since become some of my favorite bands ever.

I thought it the finale was totally appropriate. For people like me who know the show inside and out, it made perfect sense. I think most people who didn't like the ending were more casual fans.

It has many interesting plot twists (the divorce, Barney's baby, the mother dying...) but I hated how they ended the character development of Ted, Robin and Barney (and Lily and Marshall got many endings scenes in the whole season but no closure scene in the final episode). I loved the ending. It wasn't a cliché happy end. Instead, the nostalgia intertwined perfectly with a refreshed twist.
I disagree. If you look at the show as a whole, and compare it to other sitcoms, it was a cliche ending. How many sitcoms introduce the main love interest in the first episode? So many shows introduce the character that the main character will ultimately end up with early in the series. I loved HIMYM for many reasons. A big reason was the fact that Ted's soul mate could be anyone. We had no idea who he was going to end up with. When we finally met the mother, I thought I had finally met the person meant for Ted (which she was). I thought I met the character who would give Ted, and the viewers, a great happy ever after. However, Ted still ended up going after Robin, his first choice. After many episodes dedicated to Ted finally letting Robin go, even an episode where he literally let her go into the air. Disappointing.
Nathaniel Lackey and how many sitcoms do an on/off relationship with those characters before one of them spends 15 years with someone and has children with them before the person dies and then brings it back to the love interest introduced in the first episode?
Nathaniel Lackey I see what you're getting at. Sometimes you meet the right person at the wrong times, e.g. people or circumstances interfere (read: Barney). I also thought he had let go of Robin for good and final met the one, which he did. Too bad she died rather abruptly though.
Jon Sinclair I'm not saying that their idea is not original. It is definitely something that has never been done before and likely never will be done again. But the way I felt when I watched it was that Ted's perfect relationship with Tracy was thrown away. All of the "destiny moments" that brought them closer together seem less important. Ted and Robin did not work together for many reasons that they brought up a lot throughout the series. It seemed as if the creators were trying to make everyone realize that they were not at all meant to be together, and then they put them together at the end of of the show.
James S Yes I agree with you completely. I have to feel bad for Barney. At least he got his daughter. That scene was wonderful. But yeah, I just didn't like the finale haha. It's my opinion. There's arguments for both sides, but I am going to side with the one I relate to the most. Can't wait to see the alternate ending that they release with the box set.

When this song came on and they showed the pictures of the character’s first appearances on the show I started crying. Seeing them so young again after seeing them age for nine seasons was such a beautiful and nostalgic moment. I love this show!!!

Literally every song they have used inside HIMYM has some kind of magic touch to it, I don't know if I get hooked because the music is really nice along with the show and after you listen to it you really like it, or they just pick great songs.

That scene in HIMYM where Ted confronts Victorias fiance' for leaving her at the alter (Farhampton - Season 8) and he explains what Lebenschlager - Schicksalschatz is, and The Funeral starts playing in the background, made me re-love that song all over again.

Its been well over a month now since the HIMYM finale, but still this song is stuck in my head. Every time I listen to this I remember Robin's face smiling outside from her window with her dogs peeping out. Perfect ending to a perfect show. Miss you HIMYM :(

Barney to his Legendary baby queen
The Red Boot, The Yellow Umbrella and The Blue French Horn.
The red symbolises the ups and downs of one's life. For Ted, it was the adventure of looking or searching The One. That journey, albeit rough, teaches him lots of things. It rewarded him with friendship, memories of loved ones and people that come and go in his life.
The Blue symbolises willingness and what lies at the end of the journey. What Ted wanted was to be with The One. He didn't know who or how he would met the one. We all thought it was the mother that he would end up with. But no, it was Robin. He avoided the feelings. When Robin was with Kevin, The Male Newscaster or even with Barney. He, at his best, denied the feelings, denied the feeling that Robin signalled the kiss earlier in the season. But, in the end, fate conquers all. Yes, it was a pain to see the mother had to go that way. But Robin and Ted was fated.
The Yellow symbolises a phase. An obsession. (At least to me). Remember that one girl you had a crush back in high school? The one that you promises to stay forever? That phase? Contrary to the Blue French Horn that was Ted's love life (driven by fate), well, this one was driven by Ted himself. He the one that seek the mother. believing she is the one. That was the phase I was talking about.
Altogether, the hue of Red, Green and Blue (the primary color), you will get white. To me, it represents this life, this moment. That what's make this show special. Without realizing it, it hints you with lots of these kinds of stuff.

Anybody hatin' the finale just got trolled for 9 season or they're just not bright enough.
Seriously, the very first episode say it all. Watch the whole 9 season then watch again the very first episode. The way Ted and Robin behave to each other is very clear. Yes you don't say "I love you" in your first date, but if any girl can make you silly to the point you say "I love you" in your first date, that must be something very special about that girl.
Wow, I never considered the colors! I've been a fan/supporter of the ending, despite the backlash and eye rolls from friends...
To me, it was a message that life can be rough, has just as much downs as ups. In the end, everything is okay. I'm summing it up, my thoughts go a bit deeper lol.
It was always about Robin, and I commend the writers for sticking to what they wrote in the very beginning, whereas typically most shows sellout based on popularity.
Something else to consider if you believe in the afterlife, Tracy already said she found the one before Ted. So I took her passing as finally being with her "one" while Ted can be with his. With this, everyone got to grow and be who they wanted to be (Robin her career, Ted a father). Win win. Love is versatile.
Yeah. Tracy was fated to be with the guy that she used to love. The one she looked up to the sky and asked whether Ted is meant for her. The premise of this show was fate. It evolves around it.

Why do people not like the ending? Ted always loved Robin, she just didn't want the life he wanted.. so he had it with someone else. Life took her away (and yes I always want to skip multiple scenes because it breaks my heart), he was left alone for years, and then ends up with Robin who is finally ready to be with Ted, the only guy that made her question her devotion to her unbelievable career. It's an amazing ending. People lose their spouses and end up with someone else all the time, so it wasn't too far fetched either.
Regardless of how you feel about the ending I think there's one thing we can all agree on.. the outro is arguably the best ending credits for a series ever. The shock of how it ends, leading into pilot footage and seeing how young the cast was and how long you've been with them on this ride (essentially their whole adulthood), and then this song just perfectly capturing the moment. Ugh. Time to start rewatch #26.

One of the only reasons HIMYM trumps FRIENDS is because Friends sometimes ruined sad, heartfelt moments by adding unnecessary jokes. HIMYM didn't do that. It let them play out and it wasn't afraid to let the audience shed tears and sometimes tug at their heartstrings.
Why is everyone hating the ending of himym..Ted and Robin at the beginning wanted a different things that's why they broke up in the first place...however in the season finale they both got what they wanted and Robin even realizes that letting Ted go was a mistake...his feelings for Robin were strong..but Tracy is his soulmate as long as she was around his feelings for Robin never mattered 'cause he loved Tracy more than anything...at the end Ted And Robin reached a point where both of them wanted the same things so it's perfectly best that they ended up together...so suck it up haters..you guys hated it because u didn't get to see the ending u wanted..when u don't understand the beauty of the actual ending making the show ONE OF A KIND

This is why I love photography. I remember back in high school & group of my friends would ask me to tag along & take pictures. My parents hates that because they felt like they were using me & I should get paid. Honestly I never really cared about the money. They saw what I loved to do. All I wanted to do is capture & save the memories. Rather it's good or bad. Travel love laugh love, cry & get angry. It sounds crazy I really wanted to be like a Nomad.
The final episode was impeccable and brilliant. Yeah, the aim of he show was to have complete, lovely ending with a caring mother like Tracy but if you watch all the seasons Ted was really in love with Robin. The girl who hated olives, loved dogs and quoted Ghostbusters. Definitely, my favourite show and ending. This music made it more perfect!

Dude, how i met your mother had one of the best endings ever. But personally the office (U.S.) was the much more emotional ending.
***** Yeah. The reason why The Office was more emotional is because every single character makes an appearance, they have an ending, Pam's mural was awesome and Scott returns in the most memorable way possible after his extremely emotional goodbye. But to me, The Office is one of those shows that you only should watch once. But himym is a show that is timeless, a show you can watch over and over without feeling that it gets old.
Sorry man, the finale sucked. And it makes Ted look like a horrible person for telling his kids the story of how their mother died just to get them to be ok with asking out Robin again.

I think it was sad that his wife had died and all I just didn't really like that he just eventually ended up with Robin again after having been with her multiple times. I really wish his wife hadn't died though.

HIMYM came at a point in my life where I was living my best life, but still missing something. I felt a part of HIMYM. Now rewatching, again, it’s like memories of friends I forgot about. But in real life it’s memories I wish I could return to. Things I miss. People I miss. Better times. Maybe one day I can tell my story.

fessdaman Nah, I'd say Blue French Horn because Ted ends up with Robin. Tracy was some side character that was there to introduce Ted and Robin's love, which I hated. All that character development was gone the last two minutes of the finale... The music made up for it, though...

That's because both the shows are in different era. I always find friends to be lame. But it was fun when it launched. I bet after 20 years humor will follow a different direction and people like us who laughed seeing HIMYM would think the gags are back dated.
Although I thought the HIMYM ending was pretty crappy, I do understand the reasoning. Ted and Robin had always been in love with each other, there was just one conflict preventing them from being together. Ted wanted kids; Robin did not. The show made it seem at times like Robin or Barney had turned a page (Robin with kids, and Barney with one night stands), but in the long run they were not cut out for what the viewers wanted. The only thing standing between Ted and Robin was the kid issue; but once Ted got what he wanted from a woman he loved, there was nothing blocking it. After 6 years of being without a wife, especially for a hopeless romantic like Ted, it must be hard. But Ted always had feelings for Robin, and once they cleared the conflict, it was time. However, one thing that I thought was unnecessary was Barney becoming a dad. This was prone to happen, and in real life would have happened earlier, but I feel like it being squeezed into 5 minutes was a waste. So, all in all, I wasn't completely satisfied by the ending, but I definitely see where the creators were coming from.

I think people need to see the picture of how everything doesn't stay the same, I know a lot happened in one episode, but everything fell into place, Marshall ended with a job he loved, Barney and robin was never going to last, Barney wanted kids and robin didn't, with them getting divorce led up to having the women of his life, his daughter, and with Tracey it's just real life, everything can't be a fairly tale, stuff happens, and why end it with, kids that's how I met your mother, it's a romantic!! Comedy, so you'd just want it ted and robin being lonely? No they wouldn't do that because it's a ROMANTIC comedy!

Rewatching the show made me realize how special this show was despite it's ending as those good times always end bitter or in an unsettling way.Not always a good ending but a suitable one to say the least.

Just finished re watching HIMYM and confirmed its greatness.. love it for ever and ever! I love the end and when you are watching it for second or any time it's just too clear that Ted was meant to be with Robin
