Not gonna lie. Most impactful scene in HIMYM. The thing that hurts the most is when they zoom out and show Ted alone in his new building that is the same height as the Empire State (which is his lifelong dream) and just on the other side there's the WWN building where his best friend and the woman he loved (at that time) just got engaged. Because you see at the end no matter how tall that building is or was. What Ted always wanted was another thing entirely. Something that Marshal and Lily already has. Seriously I love the series so much.

@@emmad421 there's a moment on the last episode when everyone is sitting at McLarens right before Ted and Tracy's wedding when Marshall hands Lilly some money (presumably in reference to the bet)
I was going through a bad period of substance abuse back in 2015-16 and every time I hear this song, I’m taken back to all those nights where I watched this show and felt sorry for myself as I ruined relationships and pushed the girl I had feelings for away. Nobody knew I was in trouble and I kept it that way. HIMYM was the companion that kept me sane and alive and for that I will always be grateful. But this song always reminds me of both how far I have come and how happy I found out I was capable of being.
I know the lyrics of this song are sad, but whenever i listen to this song i feel like my journey towards my dream is about to start.. and it made me so so happy :)
I can see how it can be seen as sad, but I think the purpose and power of this song is the opposite. It starts in the darkest parts of you life to lift you up.
It was like 5 am when I was watching the finale so I was like half asleep I didn’t notice the hints telling us that Tracy was sick like for example when they went back to the hotel Barney got married at and Tracy said: “what mother would miss her daughters wedding and ted just cried “ but when the shot of Tracy in the hospital bed showed.. my jaw just dropped I wasn’t tired anymore and tears just rolled out like a river...
"when you met the right person, you know it. you can't stop thinking about them. they're your best friend and your soul mate. you can't wait to spend the rest of your life with them. no one and nothing else can compare ".
Songs like these make me feel bittersweet. Bitter because at the moment I am lonely, but sweet because I know she is out there waiting for me. I'm coming! Also, I Iove HIMYM
Idc about when it was airing I just wish I could go back to the day I first started watching it which was like last month so I can watch it for the first time again :/
I still suppose how it would be coz i was 11 in 2014 and didn't watched english shows now im on season 9 and crying already thinking of that experience
“It’s just a building.” That line subliminally told how Ted really felt about Robin. That his ultimate goal was always to win her over and make her happy. And building the skyscraper was something big to achieve...however at the end of the day, that didn’t make Robin happy. It was Barney. So if letting Barney propose to her was going to make her happy, he would give up having her as his date to the most monumental thing he achieved in his life at that point. EDIT: I believe the building also symbolized the amount of love and effort Ted put into trying to win Robin over up until that point. Just for her to be called to another building which would be remembered for where she got engaged. Thus why he still stated over and over that his building truly was “just a building” cause it wasn’t good enough if it couldn’t suffice Robin.
This is one of the songs which will make us feel strong in this 2020 situation.. Before, Many of u like me came from seeing HIMYM & especially 'Ted' and fell in love with the song, But now I am one of few who like this song much and relate it with now and started re-watching the series. 'Let ur heart hold fast, for this soon shall pass' - Stay strong & safe people.
This song reminds me that there is hope. During the worst bouts of depression I played it constantly. The words touched my heart. It did not cure me obviously (meds and therapy helped) but this song was a tiny flicker of hope and sometimes that's enough to get through one more day.
Every single year I complete this series, ever single year I listen to this song, every single year i fall in love with this show. Not sure when would be my last time but it would be forever for me. ❤❤❤
All I think when I hear that song is Ted.... all those years all he wanted is to marry Robin, and she finally said yes... to another man. ''Let your heart hold fast, cuz this soon shall pass...''
I never said they SHOULD be together, good sir. I said he WANTED to be with Robin. I do agree that the Mother is really Ted's soulmate and a pretty awesome gal to be honest.
I didn't mind the finale all too much. It's a painful reminder that even love, in the case of Barney and Robin, doesn't always last. I like that the writers did something original instead of going for a happy ever after. And yes, I was totally rooting for the marriage, I cried during this song.
markd315 “the creators did something original” also the creators “let’s force ted and robin again because he saw her in the first episode so he has to end up with her” something way more original would’ve been the main guy letting go of the girl he was obsessed with because he realized she didn’t loved him
A Rashed Shaker not really, as the series progressed those differences became huge and what once was just a difference between life goals ended up being simply incompatible, ted claimed that he never liked robins independence, Robin had a way better thing with Barney where she could truly be herself, etc
Lorne Pribbeno idk for a show that made such a huge emphasis on “don’t cling to the past” “don’t force what doesn’t work” “things need to fall apart so better things can exist” they really ignored al, that and threw it in the trash
8 years ago I made an ass of myself chasing after a girl and I made an ass of myself chasing after her a bunch of times since then and I have no regrets because it led me something that I wouldn't trade for the world- it led to her being my friend.
HIMYM not only gave us some great life lessons but also some good music but my heartaches every time when I am watching 'Ted looking out the window alone'
Today i lost my best friend because i told her i love her, she was something else and i dont know how to make sense of it, i heard this song and i felt like it will make sense eventually.
Everybody here is talking about How I Met Your Mother and I'm just realising that this song is one of the best i've ever heard. No matter If you're in love, no matter if you're down, no matter if you're before to do something big you're afraid of, but you know you have to do that.. It fits and it fits to another million emotions too. And I'm really happy that you need st*pid three chords to do song like this. Three chords and those right words...
This song speaks to my heart on such a deep level. I found it, like most, from watching How I met your Mother. I find myself looking out into the night sky trying to figure my life out......
watching harry potter series and all seasons of himym is the best way overcome to depression edit: and I realized that there is no way to fix some depressions, you just get used to it
This song reminds me of life in Minecraft. "In the Oceans deep. In the canyon's steep. Walls of Granite, here I stand" - Exploring a Minecraft world at it's finest. From exploring all the different ocean biomes to finding the rarely ever featured canyon like masa biomes. Also makes me appreciate granite blocks in the game more. "To believe I walk alone is a lie that I've been told." - From playing Minecraft on a single player survival world for so long, taking on all kinds of desolate narratives. I remember building a massive tower for a base, getting on top of it, and just watching the Minecraft sun slowly set, contemplating the story behind a Minecraft single player world, to be the last human exploring, in a world plagued by creatures of the undead, giant spiders, exploding four legged mobile plants, etc. Exploring the world in ways that I knew I would never be able to in real life. Mining my way through mountains. Manually swimming through massive spans of the ocean to get to the next continent. Nether portal to hell. Exploring massive cave structures. Gathering resources. Building my own house. Sustaining my own existence. I was thriving. But I was alone. Until finally, Finding like minded friends, having our own server, finally playing on multiplayer. It was like two people that started existing at the opposite poles of the earth exploring the world, thinking they were alone, until suddenly, and finally, they stumble upon each other on some random continent. It was gratifying.
SPOILER ALERT I watched the whole HIMYM two times so far and i should say, i don't understand why so many people hate the ending, it only shows that love is strange and not at all as we expect.. robin and barney dindn't end together not because of robin's work, but because barney, as it is shown many times, wanted a kid and robin could never give it to him (not only because she couldn't get pregnant) and ted and tracy both found love twice, and they both ended with their first real love, in life or death.. it sucks that tracy died, but it is really beautiful and meaningfull if you think about it.. (ps:english is my second language, sorry for any mistakes)
lucas massao "Mom, I'm not marrying some future possibility of starting a family. I'm marrying a girl. Who means more to me than kids." Episode 9.07 "The Lighthouse"And yeah, I'm sure Robin who didn't want kids will love living with 2 teenagers who are not her own who are apparently so sociopathic that they stay emotionless when hearing about their dead mother!!!!
Deeplyshalllow You do know that their mother died years ago, right? It's not like they just found out. Robin didn't want kids so she got directly teenagers. That's perfect!
Paul Muntean Oh yes, silly me! Teenagers are much easier to handle than kids! And yes I do. But I also know from personal experience that when your mother has cancer when you're 9, even if she's fine now and you didn't really get what was happening at the time, you tear up when you write a youtube comment mentioning it 12 years later. Don't tell me there isn't something wrong with those kids who act so blase about hearing a story about their dead mother.
Deeplyshalllow it's not about how she can handle them. It's simply about not liking little children. And did you ocurr to you that Robin and the kids are getting along very well? Remember that kids send Ted after Robin? Or maybe Robin changed her mind about kids. Did you remember how sad she was when she found out she can't have kids? And also remember what Robin said to Ted in episode 1 season 7 : "All you need is chemistry...and timing. But timing is a bitch.." well for them, in the last episode, finnally the timing wasn't a bitch anymore. And chemistry was always there.
A couple of years ago, this song was the legendary song for that made us remember Barney's proposal to Robin, but as time passes,we started to understand how alone Ted was in the skyscraper
Honestly Ted and Robin dont match at all. Ted is the settle down type, while Robin is the opposite. she is always on the move, always traveling, like her name "robin" a migratory bird. Its the reason why she and Barney didnt work out either, near the end, Barney discovered his true-self, he wanted to settle down also, but Robin is always traveling.
RUclips algorithm is weird. It's literally been like 8 years since this video was posted and it decides to recommend this to me NOW?! This song is great btw
This episode is one of my favourites... That moment when Robin is dissapointed and sad because of she thinks that she will lose him forever and suddenly, everything is a conspiration of Barney, everything is prepared and organized because he loves her too... It is so Beautiful...
First time watching HIYM in 2010 when i was in college. Now, i just do another re-watch..i felt a slap in the face, hurt. Its differrnt point of view when i was watching this series 10 years ago. I am the Robin of my friendship circle.
Barney and robin get engaged :) love it still hav three episodes left till himym is over and I'm still gonna watch it over for the 8th time tho never gonna stop :) tear
All these song from HIMYM have mostly comments about HIMYM, it’s amazing to see people still care about HIMYM despite it ending so long ago and the actors growing apart
I never cried, because of missing a Tv-Show. And i never missed a tv-show so hard... HIMYM is forever in my heart. Its funny and sad. Its sweet. Its everythink. And i love it.
Thanks HIMYM, now I want to cry listening to this song. Every single time I listen to it, I just imagine a sad Ted Mosby watching out over the same city that a now-engaged Barney and Robin look over. And then the last episode, this song applies to both Ted with a now dead wife, and Robin, being completely separated from "the gang." I hate this show.
Lots of people hate the ending, but imo the greatest lesson of the show is "things don't always go the way you want it to". Barney and Robin divorced, who tf wanted that? Tracy died, who tf wanted that? Ted and Robin got back together, who tf wanted that? (at least I didn't). Remember when Ted got left at the altar? Yeah that is another example. Others are when: 1. Marshall said goodbye to his old car 2. Barney's dad leaving him when he was a kid 3. Robin's dad 'abusing' her when she was a kid 4. The building Zoey was trying to defend got demolished anyway, by Ted her bf at that time 5. Every other time Ted failed to maintain a relationship with other girls, like Robin, that krav maga girl, the talkative girl, blah blah, etc
Everytime I watch this episode I come back to this song cause it is so damn good. It fitted the situation perfecetly, by far the best episode ending in the whole series!
It has been so many years since I watched HIMYM but still couldn't get this song and that scene out of my head. Each time I hear this song I get a sudden rush of emotions, still fresh after all these years.
Friends makes u feel like ur actually just having fun watching a series and laughing all the time. How i met ur mother is just " Life", and this is why himym > Friends
It was Ted. It has always been Ted. Robin's true love. His love for her is very genuine and unselfish, he always let go of her when she wants to go (travel, work and self/soul searching or even she had a quick thought that Ted's not for him) no matter how it will hurt to him, he just let go. He always made sure that Robin's gonna be happy and not pressured at the end of the day. He sees Robin more than a loved one. He sees Robin as a best friend and family. The way he defines love is the way he lives with true love. "Making your someone happy even if you're being left out." Do not get me wrong and im not saying what between Robin and Barney isn't true. It's just that people change, people changes people, we aren't perfect and lost sometime even for the long time. Lastly, wherever you go, whatever you do, whoever youre with, what's meant to be is meant to be. Divorced? With family? 10 years? 20 years? You're gonna end up with your true love. Timing's a bitch, remember?
loving this comment so much :') I really don't understand why do so many people talk about Ted as an "obsessed" or "clingy" person with Robin when in fact whenever he had to let her go or even encourage her to be with someone else (basically w/ Barney), he did, giving her all his support. And many might say that it wasn't "real support" because deep inside he kept loving her...but...does that really mean we've to blame him? he just couldn't help it, but regardless his own feelings, he put his friendship with Barney first.

I can see how it can be seen as sad, but I think the purpose and power of this song is the opposite. It starts in the darkest parts of you life to lift you up.

How I Met Your Mother has taught me so many things !!!
for example? ;)
Always use a condom on number 31. :P

that anytime you can walk out your door - and your whole life can change forever.
All my days are spent
All my cards are dealt
Oh The Desolation of Smaug
Just rewatched the episode and am now repeating this song over and over as I cry harder and harder with each replay 😭
I'm coming! Also, I Iove HIMYM
that the mentality go get her!
I hope to find the one for me too! Good luck with you
Can I go back in time to when HIMYM was still airing, please?
In my country it still airs
Idc about when it was airing I just wish I could go back to the day I first started watching it which was like last month so I can watch it for the first time again :/
@Lily Aldrin I'm watching it daily cause FOX life in Serbia is airing it he he
I still suppose how it would be coz i was 11 in 2014 and didn't watched english shows now im on season 9 and crying already thinking of that experience

“It’s just a building.”
That line subliminally told how Ted really felt about Robin.
I still cry everytime I listen to this. This song is pierced in my soul, heart and memory.
Step 83: They make a reunion movie.
nine seasons and a movie
Nice idea
It would be legen... Wait for it... dary! Legendary!
Had to come back to this song :) but now i have to say Goodbye HIMYM :( it was fun ill miss the HIMYM Family
I love this song, It's legendary.
No, it’s legend wait for a dairy

God... Its been 10 years.. and I still miss that show
This song reminds me that there is hope.
We’re glad the song is a part of it all.
Found this masterpiece during the 2020 pandemic.

10 years too late but glad ...u found it
All I think when I hear that song is Ted.... all those years all he wanted is to marry Robin, and she finally said yes... to another man.
''Let your heart hold fast, cuz this soon shall pass...''
I never said they SHOULD be together, good sir. I said he WANTED to be with Robin. I do agree that the Mother is really Ted's soulmate and a pretty awesome gal to be honest.
@@BlueMatty i dont agree with this. Yes she helped him moved on but still in his heart robin was really the one
The Robin
:´)
I didn't mind the finale all too much. It's a painful reminder that even love, in the case of Barney and Robin, doesn't always last. I like that the writers did something original instead of going for a happy ever after. And yes, I was totally rooting for the marriage, I cried during this song.
haha, your profile Pic is awesome
Nothing last forever... but we can try
markd315 “the creators did something original” also the creators “let’s force ted and robin again because he saw her in the first episode so he has to end up with her” something way more original would’ve been the main guy letting go of the girl he was obsessed with because he realized she didn’t loved him
A Rashed Shaker not really, as the series progressed those differences became huge and what once was just a difference between life goals ended up being simply incompatible, ted claimed that he never liked robins independence, Robin had a way better thing with Barney where she could truly be herself, etc
Classic Schmosby.
Did it tho? ;)
Barney Stinson though?*
***** Friendly banter, you want some? i'll give it ya!!
Barney Stinson Come on Barney, cut him some slack.
HIMYM not only gave us some great life lessons but also some good music but my heartaches every time when I am watching 'Ted looking out the window alone'
The band needs more appreciation for more songs like this

Step 2: Choose the completly wrong moment to make a drunked move
after hanging out at the strip club , and get shut down on purpose
Step 3 : Agree that you two don’t work, locking the door on any future you could have together, which will drive Robin nuts.

this song just hits harder with age and the new experiences you go through. thank you for this masterpiece.
To our man Teddy Westside.. strove for love the longest, felt it the shortest, albeit the greatest.
Today i lost my best friend because i told her i love her, she was something else and i dont know how to make sense of it, i heard this song and i felt like it will make sense eventually.
How you're good now 🙌🏻
Get over her
Hope you got over it now buddy!!
How are things going? How are you?

Everybody here is talking about How I Met Your Mother and I'm just realising that this song is one of the best i've ever heard. No matter If you're in love, no matter if you're down, no matter if you're before to do something big you're afraid of, but you know you have to do that.. It fits and it fits to another million emotions too. And I'm really happy that you need st*pid three chords to do song like this. Three chords and those right words...
HIMYM for life. i cant stop watching it, i have been watching the seasons over and over again. i love it!

This song speaks to my heart on such a deep level. I found it, like most, from watching How I met your Mother. I find myself looking out into the night sky trying to figure my life out......
"I`ve already got you, i don´t need to wait for it anymore" - Barney Stinson
watching harry potter series and all seasons of himym is the best way overcome to depression
edit: and I realized that there is no way to fix some depressions, you just get used to it

Omg that's what i'm doing now lol
M actually watching both
Same here, whenever I feel down in life, I watch Harry Potter and when I feel depressed, I watch HIMYM.
True af
I got depressed again when HIMYM ended again.
Until finally,
Finding like minded friends, having our own server, finally playing on multiplayer.
It was like two people that started existing at the opposite poles of the earth exploring the world, thinking they were alone, until suddenly, and finally, they stumble upon each other on some random continent.
It was gratifying.
SPOILER ALERT
I watched the whole HIMYM two times so far and i should say, i don't understand why so many people hate the ending, it only shows that love is strange and not at all as we expect.. robin and barney dindn't end together not because of robin's work, but because barney, as it is shown many times, wanted a kid and robin could never give it to him (not only because she couldn't get pregnant) and ted and tracy both found love twice, and they both ended with their first real love, in life or death.. it sucks that tracy died, but it is really beautiful and meaningfull if you think about it.. (ps:english is my second language, sorry for any mistakes)
***** yeah it was a good ending ted wanted to be with robin from the starting
lucas massao "Mom, I'm not marrying some future possibility of starting a family.
Paul Muntean
Oh yes, silly me!
Just binge watched this entire season again
I got to say season 8 was one of their best seasons
Awww after all these years it is still giving me these goosebumps ❤
A couple of years ago, this song was the legendary song for that made us remember Barney's proposal to Robin, but as time passes,we started to understand how alone Ted was in the skyscraper
ted is looking out the window...
Barney and Robin, Marshall, Lily and Marvin were happy together and Ted just let go of the love of his life...
The most heartbreaking moment of HIMYM for me. To see the love of your life getting married to your best friend while you are all alone.
@@trudinh9951 it's destiny. But it's not more important than LOVE
We all were bud. We all were.
Woah it's been years and this song still gives me chills
First time watching HIYM in 2010 when i was in college. Now, i just do another re-watch..i felt a slap in the face, hurt. Its differrnt point of view when i was watching this series 10 years ago. I am the Robin of my friendship circle.
the Robin 😍 i love this song
literally everyone is here cuz of himym. im not complaining. i am to. i cried when barney proposed to robin in the most best way possible
Kids I'm gonna raise a toast for Ted Mosby, if he wouldn't have exist we wouldn't have this epic story. We all love you Teedy Westside ♥️
Ted looking out the GNB building. One of my favorite parts of the series.
Mine too
This song always bring me the memory of The Robin’s. 2020 - I am still here
whenever I hear this song I remember the gang and all they went through together. It does all tied up together.
This makes me feel nostalgic
Barney and robin get engaged :) love it still hav three episodes left till himym is over and I'm still gonna watch it over for the 8th time tho never gonna stop :) tear
bet you regret your words now ;)
I don't understand lol
well they get divorced so his happiness must have come to an end
Yeah but then he has a child lol
Lol rip you dude
All these song from HIMYM have mostly comments about HIMYM, it’s amazing to see people still care about HIMYM despite it ending so long ago and the actors growing apart
I don't care how it ended because I stop watching when Barney and Robin get married
That episode was legen wait for it dary! Legendary!!
And then the last episode, this song applies to both Ted with a now dead wife, and Robin, being completely separated from "the gang."
I hate this show.
Ikr! Barney and robin ;(
And fuck u u spoiled the ending I wasn't done watching it :((((((((( god damit douche bag
I know Why!!!
WTF spoilers!!! now its all ruined
You are Darren from last seasson. You both are devils.
What a beautiful song, listen to more of their work guys. They are extremely underrated.
Nothing Suits me like a suit
Lots of people hate the ending, but imo the greatest lesson of the show is "things don't always go the way you want it to". Barney and Robin divorced, who tf wanted that? Tracy died, who tf wanted that? Ted and Robin got back together, who tf wanted that? (at least I didn't).
Remember when Ted got left at the altar? Yeah that is another example. Others are when:
1. Marshall said goodbye to his old car
2. Barney's dad leaving him when he was a kid
3. Robin's dad 'abusing' her when she was a kid
4. The building Zoey was trying to defend got demolished anyway, by Ted her bf at that time
5. Every other time Ted failed to maintain a relationship with other girls, like Robin, that krav maga girl, the talkative girl, blah blah, etc
best comment to justify the ending. i think this way as well.
This show made me cry at least 100 times
Was a great moment for Robin and Barney but Ted is the most innocence guy in the world. Hands down.
They should do the same series like this, but from the each characters point of view, that would be amazing
Everytime I watch this episode I come back to this song cause it is so damn good. It fitted the situation perfecetly, by far the best episode ending in the whole series!
Cant believe that HIMYM is about to end. Im gonna miss the old gang sitting at that table. :(
15 sec in and i'm crying. I love this show and everything about it
It has been so many years since I watched HIMYM but still couldn't get this song and that scene out of my head. Each time I hear this song I get a sudden rush of emotions, still fresh after all these years.
schmosby's life in one song.
Gonna say it-----better than FRIENDS
Friends makes u feel like ur actually just having fun watching a series and laughing all the time. How i met ur mother is just " Life", and this is why himym > Friends
OMG, I really love that HIMYM always help me to cry, because I don't know how to express my feelings, but the show and its songs do.
