SOCOM did for you. That was a requirement the Virtus had to pass for winning the SURG contract and it makes this one the most reliable tactical carbines on the planet.
Let’s get that endurance test going when you can Ian. I have been looking at this for another rifle and if it does last 20,000 without an issue or even a few issues, I’ll be impressed. Great work as always!
Yeah man. Run an endurance test. I’ve burned out 5.56 barrels in less than 10k rounds so I’d be very interested in that test. I’d also be interested in a deeper dive into the components and specs. Thanks for another good video.
Lol. That barrel was required to hold 1.5 MOA for 5 consecutive 10 shot groups at 300 yards suppressed after 10,000 rounds fired for the SURG contract. The reliability, accuracy and heat cycling contract requirements for the SURG were so demanding that this was the 3rd time SOCOM had held the SURG trials because up until now no one could pass. soldiersystems.net/2018/08/02/first-look-socoms-new-suppressed-upper-receiver-group-from-sig-sauer/
I have two MCXs, and I love them! Which is good because my wife saw the receipt and was pretty clear about the fact that those would be the last guns I will ever buy. 😢
Yes of course we want to see it. Check the parameters of Sig's test on the gun...do they mean 20,000 without cleaning, cleaning after X number of rounds, what lube, temperature that components shouldn't get beyond, what ammo used, etc. Even if it doesn't make the 20,000 on your test, it's still a sick rifle.
20K round test please I own 3 MCX and so far they always run. But the MP suppress usually at 500-600 rounds needs to be completely taken down and clean.
Just put a scope on the 16" version and you are good for 700m if you know what you are doing, yeah ok it's going to be a peashooter at that range but still :D
So... Cal x change kits are showing as Discontinued all over the internet.... is this true or will they be shipping again sometime in a COVID-less future?
Eugene Ray this is a re-upload. This video is years old, from when the Virtus first came out. Wish they would’ve given a disclaimer, but I’m glad I stumbled onto this video to stop the misinformation.
US military has been fielding it in small quantities for years. Lots of police agencies too. Many militaries and police agencies in other countries as well. It’s done been took off lol
@@zachattack2775 Yarpt, SOCOM use 300blk version, SAS alagedly use both 5.56 and 300blk (unable to confirm that though), German special police, UK special police, Danish navy special forces, Finnland Special forces etc etc the list goes on, Many are using the MCX and the MCX virtus allready :)
This video is a bit late. Like by a year. The information is out of date in reference to caliber exchange kits and modularity. Their barrels are showing discontinued all over the internet, not sure if that's due to the pandemic or just them not being able to keep up with production. It concerns me though, as Sig is a powerhouse with manufacturing and r&d capabilities and is not able to keep up with it. I'm concerned that the MCX will turn into another Masada ACR rifle in the promises of modularity and barrel swaps only to find out that they're non-existent and then it goes by the wayside. You buy into the system, need to swap a barrel out because it's has a manufacturer defect or you just want something better, if you're going to have to go on the adventure of a lifetime to find one. same goes with hand guards whenever you swap out the barrel you'll need to swap out the handguard as the porting for the gas block adjustments is different from barrel to barrel. The handguards are just as difficult to find in some cases. It seems that this weapon system is on the low end of Sig's production agenda. Same can be said with their MPX line, which gets changed every single year. First we have a 8.5 in 9 mm with key mod, then we have a 4.5 in PDW, then we have this copperhead thing which I don't even understand the need for. Regardless you can't find anything but the newest item that they're pushing out, when everybody wants the old stuff. I haven't met one person that's all hot and heavy on the new copperhead version. I don't understand why they didn't stick to the original or a Gen 2 Virtus MPX and just offer barely exchange kits and handguards like the MCX. So much potential, only to waste it on different variations every year and fall behind in production.
Yeah, not sure why this videos is just now coming out. Only thing I can think of is that there's been a lot of interest lately (Trex Arms, Garand Thumb, MAC) and RecoilTV wanted to get on the bus.
@@djsity True and it's a popular Call of Duty gun too. I've always wondered why it weighed 7.9 pounds but I guess that's how you get a 20k round service life.
Ryan G true, I think the video game did it. I just bought the 11.5 virtus pistol yesterday. It’s much lighter then I expected. Out of the box with their folding brace and no mag it weighs 6lbs 11oz. They advertise it weighing 7.4lbs. So I’d imagine is lighter then the 7.9lbs advertised too.
@@ryang8040 The reason why it's so heavy is because of the things they had to have to pass the SURG contract requirements such as a reinforced upper and heavier barrel. The 20,000 rounds without parts failures was a contract requirement and they also had to hold 1.5 MOA for 5 consecutive 10 shot groups at 300 yards suppressed after 10,000 rounds had been fired on the rifle. Look into the contract requirements they were probably more strenuous than anything like it that came before it the heat cycling, accuracy and reliability requirements were insane. This was the 3rd time SOCOM had held those trails because no one could pass them until now. That said the Virtus is definitely a bit chunky my Legacy MCX Patrol weights 6lbs 9oz naked compared to 7.9lbs of the Virtus which is 1.33 lbs heavier. Compared to the front heavy Virtus the Legacy's front end feels like it's flying during drills. soldiersystems.net/2018/08/02/first-look-socoms-new-suppressed-upper-receiver-group-from-sig-sauer/
