That would definitely explain the bracers on her arms being a separate piece, the F4 look fits it perfectly. Lots of She-Hulk designs have different boot styles too, lots of re-use potential when you can just pop on different boot pieces.
Byrne's massive curls and forelock/Jen's expression almost makes me hear her declare: "I'm six foot seven and bright green!" The FF repaint/resculpt is a MIB and one to open. Haven't done that in a long time!
You were right, Robo, the Iron Man w/ Mega Man like boots is similar to his look in the Captain America & The Avengers arcade game. That's what I remembered it from.
Don't know about the game, but it certainly is based on the Romita Jr. version of the model 9 during the Byrne/Romita Jr run, circa the Armor Wars 2 and other stories. The thickness of the boots is clearly Romita Jr.'s depiction of the mark 9.
@@JustARandomCollectorThe "MegaMan" boots were featured in the comics. The slimmer boots, as seen on the older release he compared it to are a closer match to the way the boots appear in the arcade game, and as they were remodeled in the comics as well.
Wasn’t gonna order any of these. Was very tempted on She hulk when she was revealed. Seeing you review them made me go order Model 20 and She Hulk. Damn you robo!
A little bit of info: the 'Model 20' is actually erroneously labeled. It, and the old Toybiz one at 31:36, is actually the Model 24 that debuted in 2003 and what Tony wore when he became Secretary of Defense. That armor came to be known as the 'Modern Armor' The Charles Bronson-Tony Stark head was previously from the ML 20th Anniversary Proto-Classic Iron Man and you are right, Robo, it's more of a Bronze Age Tony than early Silver Age Tony. The more appropriate head for the Model 01 grey and gold would be the more Howard Hughes-Tony head that came with the 80 Years Alex Ross Iron Man and classic Stealth Iron Man.
It’s weird because this one isn’t even accurate to the Model 24/Pentagon armor but it IS accurate to the Toybiz one. I wonder if they were planning on doing more 20th anniversary figures and then moved it over here instead. I hope we do get a comic accurate one down the line, it’s just a matter of the abdomen needs to be red
I read somewhere earlier (might have been a Reddit post) a theory that this "Model 20" armour is possibly named as such due to the Model 20, 24, and 25 all being very close in design, and so it's meant to be an amalgamation of all three designs. It wouldn't surprise me if that were the case, given the figures we got for Model's 2, 3, 4, and 7. All of them more or less share the same molds, with the major differences being new helmet designs for each release just due to how close those armours are to each other, even if the "nipple" details are in the wrong places for most of them lol.
The *only* reason I didn't get the grey Iron Man is because it wouldn't fit in any display, so I want this one for my classic Avengers. Nefaria is an Iron Man villain but he fits that "catch all" Marvel villain category for me. He can join Kang, Ultron and Loki. And She-Hulk... finally. I don't even really care about She-Hulk, but I just want her for my Avengers, and another hero to go with Hulk. Love the sculpting with the muscles! The colour is great too! I hope we see this retooled into a Red She-Hulk.
Hey Robo! I don’t know if anyone mentioned it so far, but after looking at a couple figures, the Model 9 Iron Man has the same arms and legs as the Retro War Machine that came out a little while ago! Thought you would like to know! Great video as always!
@@RoboDontKnow If it's any consolation, they also used those arms first on the Deluxe War Machine and then on the Modular Iron Man, which I remember you reviewing back in 2021
I think the best figure of this wave is the count nefaria and she - Hulk figure . And he is an iron man villain and avengers villain . Both of these figures. Are very accurate to the nostalgic 80s and 90s 70s comics . And done well . I think the count nefaria wins it for me . In this wave . With she- Hulk second but it's a good wave . Nice review Bro 👍🏻
Your Thunderbird-to-Nefaria comment: "You son of a..."; dammit, you made me truly LOL. Agreed on association of Nefaria to Avengers vice X-Men for me as well. Great review! Got 1/2 the wave so far; awaiting Whiplash, She Hulk and Iron Man Mk 20 - next few days! Appreciate identifying the cape issues; had the same issue with Nefaria. Keep on keeping on!
Awesome review Robo. All in all the pretty good Ironman wave. I have to pick up the She-Hulk. She look too good. Is it just me or is that iconic Tony Stark head sculpt looks like Charles Bronson. Lol. Maybe it's just me....
Actually Robo, Whiplash has been 2 different people, the original is Marc Scarlotti who changed his name to Blacklash at some point, the current Whiplash is Anton Vanko, although not the same person as the original Crimson Dynamo, they just have the same name for some reason
Great reviews. FYI , on Pentagon Armor Iron Man the neck peg is backwards. Just reverse it so the neck detail is facing front. And good that you got Neo-Classic Iron Man- one of the most important armors not to get a good figure yet!
A particular Hulk look Hasbro has not made that I think would make for a good opportunity to make him in that bright Gamma Green: mid-80s style Hulk all big and buff with the little purple shorts (or alternately, 60's style, thick & stocky in little purple shorts ala Avengers #1). Now I'm thinking, we need an Incredible Hulk retro wave next, many important Hulk comic characters could be released that way, like a Rick Jones, and a Doc Samson, they haven't done him since the Fin Fang Foom wave during the dark days. They could also do another Leader, update the orange/black look from the ToyBiz Face-Off figure, have it packed with a long-brain head and an alternate scrotal-head.
The Iron Man model 09 is one of my favorites as it was introduced right around when I started reading Iron Man back in the 90's. The original design was drawn by iconic Iron Man artist Bob Layton and is much closer (both in color and boot size) to the other, older Iron Man you have by comparison. The "Mega Man" boots on this armor came when John Romita Jr. took over pencils. His early style was very chunky and gritty and perfect for the 90's. I love both versions, but you're right in that this version looks very video gamey, especially with the chromatic yellow rather than gold, but that's how they colored him during JR jr.'s run so it fits.
I'd talked myself out of She-Hulk after the initial reveal, thinking I want the modern one piece swimsuit costume, but damn if this one doesn't look amazing. Model 9 Mega Man moon boots Iron Man is one of the last armour designs I want. The two villains are real nice but not must haves. I'm really torn between the grey original armour or this gold one. Not sure I need both. Agree we definitely need a Hulk in that green. I'd be very down for them finally doing the Smart Hulk from the 90s in that colour.
There are two versions of the Mo. No. 9. Both versions were released in the older toy you showed, the one that's scaled way too small. Both versions of the boots appear in the comics. The slimmer boots are the version of the No. 9 that appears in the Captain America and the Avengers arcade/SNES/Genesis/NES game. I really hope we get another release of this Suit with the different boots.
I don't really collect many Marvel Legends but I'm definitely getting the Iron Man Model 09. It reminds me so much of the Iron Man armour from the 90s arcade game, Captain America and the Avengers :) :)
Rotate the model 20s neck around. It's on backwards and you get A LOT more motion out of the neck when it's assembled correctly. Also the 20 has ball jointed ankles that you can turn side to side.
From what I've been able to deduce from some Google Searches, both of those Model 9 Iron Man/Neo-Classic Armour figures are accurate to certain artistic interpretations of that armour in the comics. The old Retro one is based on the original interpretation of the suit, while the new Iron Man Retro figure is more accurate to later issues. The biggest differences between the two are the forearm and lower leg armour designs. Idk if there is an in-universe explanation that helps divide these two designs, like the Model 1 with its MK I (built while imprisoned), MK II (tweaks made after returning to the US), and MK III (gold repaint with kilt) variants, or the Model 2 variants (MK I had the "cat ear" faceplate, while MK II had the early "widow's peek" faceplate design with the added addition of the two hip battery-things).
The peg for Nefaria's cape is slightly bigger than the peg-hole so you'd have to use a bit of extra elbow grease to get it in firmly. Once in, it is very stable.
This wave looks really nice, only real bummer is Hasbro continuing to use the rock hard plastic capes. Hopefully the just announced Doom/Taskmaster/Iron Patriot wave is the beginning of the end of those with Doom getting a cloth cloak but ofc Taskmaster still has a hard cape 🫠
I was just reading a trade paperback were Nefaria takes on the Avengers and the Thunderbolts, and almost wins! And Nefaria's daughter Madame Masque was there as well.
Hey Robo, the model 9 Iron Man is basically the same Armor as the 1st retro carded version you have. Originally, Tony started wearing model 9 after Silver Centurion was damaged at the end of Armor Wars. Eventually, the art team changed from Bob Layton to John Romita Jr. who started drawing model 9 with the goofy giant boots and gloves, and sadly, subsequent artists kept those elements until the primary armor became the modular armor.
My favorite has to be of course She Hulk because I like the head sculpt and that suit design and the Model 1 Iron Man in gold looks cool too but my friend might get me that She Hulk figure so she can go in my very own Avengers display, Fantastic review on this Iron Man retro carded wave Robo.
Yeah the "model 20" is something of a popular armor, but also obscure too. Tony wore that armor in the post heroes return era in the comics in the lead up to Avengers Dissassembled and inevitably civil war. You might also recognize that armor from the ML Series 8 Iron Man from way back in the toy biz era 20 years ago, as well as from the first Marvel: Ultimate Alliance video game.
Sometimes I wonder if it would be feasible to have articulated long hair. Have a piece glued onto the head and a hinge at shoulder length. And if we're getting real crazy, use a soft plastic with some strands hanging past the hinge to help mask the joint. Ah, it'll never happen...
Can't wait for the fantastic four she-hulk repaint. Although I think the power princess buck for the red she-hulk. But if they do a retro hulk with this green, take my money.
Some day someone will figure out long hair movement via some new slider scalp tech for the heads so you can get some more articulation. As always, amazing review of the wave Robo. 👍
Some other uses I'd like to see with this She-Hulk mold are FF She-Hulk, Secret Wars She-Hulk (just because I read that story for the first time about a week ago), Red She-Hulk, and possibly Muir Island Saga Lorna Dane/Polaris (that point in Uncanny X-Men when she lost her Magnetic abilities but gained super strength).
28:46 I believe your She-Hulk has two left shoulders. The right shoulder muscles are angled the wrong way. They should be angled forward like the muscles on her left shoulder.
Just thought of this, but I might grab a 2nd She-hulk to make a custom George Perez Wonder Woman. Very few times they've gotten nice curly hair like that correct, plus with that musculature, it would be one imposing but hot WW.
Damn I didn’t want the gold one but I want that classic Stark headsculpt, but you know why not have an extra Iron Man armor? If I find it in the wild I’ll pick it up. I think that headsculpt will work great with the Model 9.
I really hope we see a mid 00s She hulk on this body. Ive got the blob baf one but maybe its time for a redo. Whiplash is the pinless version of the Spider UK body. Really disappointing that Hasbro hasnt fixed any of the range hindering clearance issues with the joints.
You could repaint that She-Hulk head to make a custom X-Men TAS Rogue! The hair is a bit long in the back, but it's got that same exact fluffiness. (And I don't mean '97, I mean the original animated series.)
I think this is the 5-6th wave I have yet to see? Mindless One, Void, Zabu are all “exclusives”, and Target isn’t carrying anything but a few Spidey retro. I saw NWH Ock twice, once during a sale, so grabbed him. Yeah, last whole waves I saw were NWH, X97, and MCU re-issues. There are figures from older waves (Ant/D+) clogging pegs that stores refuse to clearance out. I prefer to buy at retail, not preorder online. IF I ever see these: def buying Jen, Nefaria, Whiplash, and mk9. Gold is a pass. I’d need to see 20 in person WHICH IS WHY I LIKE BUYING AT RETAIL. Jen: Titania and Volcana are the only figures I can think of that MIGHT reuse this body. Neither would need a different forearm, aside from the spikes on T. (Maybe some of those Sister Sin cronies from Waid’s Cap run that are totally not Marvel’s Female Furies?) Nefaria: what, no Evil Strange jokes? 20: I can’t help but see that Diamond reactor and I’m mentally repainting him in blue for an armored Superman.
They should have used that bottom torso crunch with the upper torso swivel for that iron man. Whiplash toros kinda looks like it could be Destro reuse. I'm so tempted to pick these up
I really like the Model 01 Gold armor. But the unmasked Tony head... That's 80's Tony. Would've been better if it used the Alex Ross Iron Man figure's unmasked head, which is based on the 60's Tony. Also that Neo-classic armor looks dope.
@@RoboDontKnow cool! Guess I’ll continue to keep my eyes open to see if she’ll appear on eBay, Amazon, or if Marvel ever decides to reissue her at some point. Thanks for the information.
I wondered if we're ever gonna get an updated classic Mary jane Watson figure soon but also a Gwen Stacy with a soft goods coat and skirt too by Hasbro?

That whip accessory could be used for Senyaka from The Acolytes.
I'm guessing they would reuse that She-Hulk for either the obvious choices such as FF She-Hulk, Red She-Hulk. They could also reuse that for Titania.
18:13 that sculpt looks just like Crystal Ball from GI Joe!
I don't collect ML too much but I needed to get 90s Iron Man and Nefaria!
The neck on the Iron Man Model 20 is backwards, you have to turn it around.
(Maybe some of those Sister Sin cronies from Waid’s Cap run that are totally not Marvel’s Female Furies?)
Nefaria: what, no Evil Strange jokes?
20: I can’t help but see that Diamond reactor and I’m mentally repainting him in blue for an armored Superman.
The Nefaria is BRIGHT WHITE
Is it wrong to want just the Count Nefaria to put the head on a suited body for evil insurance salesman or conniving lawyer? 🤔
Approved!
You mean his original "costume"? Haha!
@@RoboDontKnow 😂
They should have used that bottom torso crunch with the upper torso swivel for that iron man. Whiplash toros kinda looks like it could be Destro reuse. I'm so tempted to pick these up
Not Destro torso. He has some more design work on his. Plus, his medallion.
I really like the Model 01 Gold armor.
But the unmasked Tony head... That's 80's Tony. Would've been better if it used the Alex Ross Iron Man figure's unmasked head, which is based on the 60's Tony.
Also that Neo-classic armor looks dope.
It'd be funny if as you opened your figures they'd say things like "Be careful!!" or "Don't you dare lose pieces!!". XD
Secret Wars anniversary this year... rumours of a Secret Wars wave... She-Hulk would be perfect as a repaint for Titania...
@Robo. Where were you able to get a 6 inch Red She-Hulk? I’ve been looking for her for years.
I got it when it came out, whenever that was.
The third iron man figure of this wave is from avengers disassembled through siege of Asgard.
Hoping for a Thundra and Valkyrie revamp on the She-hulk.
THUNDRA! That's who I always forget about. Yup, NEED.
@@RoboDontKnow I think, there was a comic where Thundra appears and tries to kidnap Ben/Thing to mate with him. So for posing, an easy tug o war between her and she-hulk for ol' blue eyes.
Model 20 will be my only pick up.
I really want She-Hulk.
They are based on the toys from the 90's cartoon. I wasn't much of a fan of it, but I loved the Toy Biz figures. I assume we will be getting HULK retro figures, hey hey, Doc Sampson. 🤷
I think the bottom legs on the mark 20 is reuse from the MCU mark 3 armor. Not sure though.
Also before anyone says it, shout out to "Indigo R Kelly Montoya" Whiplash. You can't unsee it now. 🤣
Maybe if I knew what the hell what you were talking about, haha!
Wonder if they will use that She Hulk body for Valkyrie and Thundra
Now I just need hasbro to take the exact She-Hulk and repaint it to her fantastic four costume to mach the retro wave
Yup, that's gotta be the plan.
