It still feels a little weird to me that this zone has the same name as an official zone. Granted, the official zone is from Sonic Blast (8-bit), which people tend to want to forget about, so it is what it is.
Late reply, but in Blasts Red Volcano, the rocks seem more purple. Plus SRB2s Red Volcano (atleast the current version), is way less generic and stands out more.
Very good video, I really like to watch the long history of one the best and longest fangames ever created (this game is older than me just by a month!) But just like some else mentioned in the comments, I think you should have included Blue Mountain, considering it was gonna be the Act 2 of Red Volcano. I remember the many frustrations I had when playing 2.0, dying at the very beginning and seeing my way blocked because the lava rose. It's gonna be interesting to see how you tackle Egg Rock Zone, considering it has been pretty much the same for the past 10+ years, only removing a few sections to make shorter and easier for multiplayer (the blowing fans section on 2.0 Act 2 was hell to do online, too much lag made it almost impossible) Also at 10:23 if my memory serves correctly, the outdoor section also existed in 2.0, however it was only a small section of land that had a few extra lives, an elemental shield to go back safely through the same place, snd I think an emerald token too? I could be totally worng, it's been like 7 years since I last played that version.
i think that iteration of the outdoor section was specifically in 2.1.6, and it became a full section in 2.1.7. the section didnt exist at all prior. but im just going off memory from srb2 the past so i could be wrong lol.
I absolutely love the changes of this map over the years, from the previous indoor volcano with a very hidden secret outdoor room in v2.1.7 to a prehistoric indoor and outdoor volcano in v2.2 with many new badniks. I know that the Unidos got introduced in v2.1, but Pyre Flies, Dragonbombers and Pterabytes were introduced in that version.
I like these Throughout History videos of yours, they are so entertaining to watch. How about making next Throughout History video about a bonus stage like Aerial Garden or Pipe Towers? I just think that Egg Rock history might be not too interesting, considering it have barely been changed since its debut in version 2.0
@@midi_feline Could be, my memory is a little fuzzy since I used to play during the era of 1.08 moving to 1.09.4. Having to move back and forth between versions to play on different servers. Since in this video it says Final Demo, I assumed to be 1.9, but you might be correct.
Ah yeah, I remember the "Jump on that random roof and you get banished to the super hard volcano bonus level" XD And now it's one of the best levels in the entire game. Genuinely cannot wait until we someday see an Act 2.
Making the lava solid makes sense anyway, because that's how it is in every Sonic game I know of. Might even be that way in real life as far as walking on it goes; of course if you were trying to walk on lava in real life you'd have much bigger problems.
In real life, lava is really viscous and behaves like jelly (jell-o) so while you could sink in it if it was runny enough, it would take some time, plus lava hot enough for that would literally turn you to steam if you touch it so you wouldn’t get the chance to immerse in it. In Shadow the Hedgehog, Shadow sinks under instantly and in Sonic P-06, lava’s realistic jellylike prosperities are simulated by making it work like Dusty Desert’s quicksand, with the except that it also slowly burns away rings like the tornado in Crisis City does. The lava in SA2 is weird because there’s a constant updraft that prevents Knuckles & Rouge falling in. (Lava only appears in Meteor Herd and the character boss battle that takes place there)
