Guys, I am really EXCITED about this video! If you've ever thought about getting a ceramic coating but don't really understand everything that is involved or why it's such a valuable way to protect your vehicle investment, this episode will give you a great overview of the process and connect you with an expert who can answer all your car care questions!
@@karmendimas5274 while I generally agree with you the post-COVID market has sort of bucked that trend. But regardless, I'm not only referring to resale value but the enjoyment of actually protecting the paint on a $30,000 truck and having it still look great even after many years.
Cactus Gray is the best!!! I would definitely recommend a coating. It's amazing how good it looks and how easy it makes it to keep the truck looking great with regular maintenance washes. Make sure to use a certified and experienced local installer with a good reputation.
Thanks for being such a good sport about having me over your shoulder all day. I appreciate the time and care you took in making my new truck look so great!
IGL Ecoclean Blizzard car wash shampoo was used for the foam bath and wipe down. Prior to that, IGL iron fallout remover was used on the paint and wheels to decontamiate. Other than that, the only products used were the polishing compounds and IGL ceramic sealants. He has a whole shelf full of various polishing compounds. I honestly can't remember which ones he used. As for the IGL stuff, you can find all about it on their website here: iglcoatings.com/products/ecoclean-blizzard
It really depends on the condition of your paint going in, and what coating you choose. If your vehicle is relatively new and the paint is in gret shape, the detailer will not need to spend much time polishing out swirls, scratches, marring, etc. So, that makes the job easier and cheaper. If your vehicle is in rough shape, the detailer may have to spend 4-5 hours polishing with different compounds until the paint condition is restored as close to perfect as possible. The other consideration is the ceramic coating you choose. A 1-year or 3-year coating is going to be more affordable than a 5-year or 7-year coating. That said, you should expect $600-$1,000 or more, depending on your area and your particular product. I've also noticed that if you live in a rural area like I do, the prices of things is more reasonable than it is in NYC or LA, for example.
Very nice. I've watched several videos showing prep steps and ceramic coating, but I have yet to find one that mentions cost. SO ON AVERAGE, WHAT DOES A CERAMIC COATING, INCLUDING ALL THE PREP STEPS, COST???
@@themaverickhntr I’ve been doing my own polishing/ceramic coatings for the past 10 years. Since I have the supplies, it’s basically 8 hours of my time and $100 in coating. If you’re in Pa, you should really consider paint protection film for the front end/hood. That’s the game changer since ceramic won’t do an anything to stop rock chips. Great work & your truck looks sweet!! 🥇👍
Great video. @ questions.... 1) do you need to do the cut/polish prior to applying the base coat? I have a 1 week old Maverick and I'm not anal about the finish and factory is good enough. 2)once the coating wears off/breaks down, what's the process for re-application? Thanks, Brian
I mean, you don't HAVE to cut/polish before application. However, no good detailer is going to tell you to do so without it. Even if your truck just came from the factory to the detailer, I guarantee your paint is not in "factory" condition. It rode on rail cars, sat in lots, was driven a little bit and probably washed at the dealer before you picked it up. There are most certainly some small scratches and other imperfections on your clear coat that need to be corrected. If you coat the vehicle without doing that, you are "locking them in" below what is essentially a sheet of glass. As for your second question, after the coating has worn out, you'd simply use a cut/polish to remove what remains, get the paint looking perfect again and recoat. Obviously, the life of any coating depends on environmental conditions and how well the owner maintains it with regular washes and care with quick detailing spray at home.
Leaf blower for drying is better then when ypu are done use a soft cloth to polsh off any remaining water stains and blemishes. I have a very powerful blower that does wonders
You can expect to pay roughly a grand for a 5-year coating from a certified installer. Prices vary greatly by area, quality of installer and quality of product applied. Check around and see what's available in your area.
I’ve been thinking of doing this to a tremor I want to order when the order banks open up. I wonder if it would be worth it, considering I will be off roading it quite a bit. I’m sure I’ll see some scratches over the years.
I've wanted a Maverick since day one and found and bought one just like this one today. It's a loaded 2022 AWD XLT and I love this color and can't wait to bring it home in a few days.
I'm not aware of any ceramic coatings for the exhaust system. My guess is that the high temperatures would significantly degrade the effectiveness. You might be able to use a high-temperature paint to protect the exhaust, but I am not an expert in this area.
Was not necessary as truck was brand new. Went straight from the decontamination and wash to polishing. My installer did evaluate the paint for any debris but said it was very smooth and so there was no need for clay bar which does cause some minor marring.
Well, TBH, a detailer will tell you NEVER to go to car washes with brushes period! Those brushes scratch the snot out of your clear coat. You don't want that. So no, I will never use a brush on my truck; just a microfiber mitt like in the video. The coating makes the truck super easy to clean because stuff doesn't stick to it very well.
@@stevemauch4133 might be ok but I wouldn't trust them on the regular. What kind of chemicals are they using? Is the water clean? Too many questions for me personally.
Awesome job AAG Auto Detailing! You brought that Maverick from baseline off the market to top line immaculate! That shine is next level 🔥 Very nice job documenting the process and captivating the necessity of a ceramic coating. It’s important to invest in your investment!
Nice work but my brother has a good friend that works for zeibart and he is going to give me a good deal on rust proofing and ceramic coating when I get my maverick also their ceramic coatings and rustproofing lasts 10 years but you have to take the truck or car back once a year for a touch up on both its not much for a once a year touch up
About $1,000, but keep in mind coating prices will vary by location and product. In this case, the 5-year coating is the top-of-the-line product from this installer. I could have gotten a 2-year coating for several hundred less. In larger urban areas, you might pay $1,500 for the same job. Best bet, if you are interested in options, is to reach out to some well-reviewed detailers in your area and compare your options.
@@mightymuskrat yeah, the one I installed on my wife's Outlander is like that. And there is one for the Maverick like that too, but I looked at it and I didn't think it looked as good. So, I went with this one, which incidentally is the "official" Ford accessory. It just comes with double-sided tape on it, and you just peel off the other side and stick it down onto the hood.
I bought custom emblem overlay decals on Etsy. They are available in your choice of color combos. I went with a matte black background and light gray Ford lettering. Then to eliminate the remaining chrome around the edges I bought a set of black plastic ABS chrome delete overlays. Just search on Amazon you’ll find them.
Let us know when your truck stops beading water with that 5 year Ceramic coating. I had the same thing done to my Wifes CX30 (5 years ceramic) and it stopped beading after 1 year. I am thinking 5 year is BS
The longevity of a ceramic coating has a ton to do with how well you maintain it. You can't just coat a vehicle and think of it as a magic bullet. You have to do regulsr maintenance washes and then applying a quality detail spray after washing hrlps a lot. I can say that my truck still beads water as well as the day it was coated. When it doesn't bead as well I know it's time for a wash and then the beading comes back instantly.
Coatings are very affordable! I install them all the time! We also don’t live in a super high income area so I definitely feel like it’s something most can afford!
Yeah, I know in big cities people are paying $2,000 and $3,000 for these coatings, which I think is insane! If you find a good installer in your area, explain your situation and you might be surprised at how affordable you can get a 2- or 3-year coating. Its also worth noting that while this video was on ceramic coatings, there are a lot of really good wax products out there that provide nice protection and look great. They won't last nearly as long as a ceramic, but you can get them for a fraction of the cost. The important thing is to put some protection on that paint!
Apparently my Ford dealer did this ceramic coating in 2 hours it doesn't sound like they actually did what they said they were going to do I feel like I got ripped off now if it took eight hours for your guy to do it and four did it in two what does that say
Every time I see a Maverick video I Just remember the Markup added on my order by the dealer Westway ford almost 12000$ and 3000$ add-on , which made my truck 52,000$ for a Lariat Hybrid the msrp was 33,000$, had to walk, Worst part is the dealer just gonna get away with it
Truck looks amazing! Awesome work and great product.
Thank you!
That’s Cactus Gray right?
Quite a process and great results - those wheels really pop!
What kind of foam cannon was that?
Not sure. It's my detailer's. But I bought an inexpensive one off Amazon and it works great I think it cost me about $15.
