Oh my God. I can't believe I found your channel. You are by far and away my favorite miner/person on Bering Sea Gold. Steve is awesome too. Can't wait to check out your other videos and content.
This answered a lot of questions I've had over the years. One that I'm still not clear about is that people have a lot of money into their mining operations but then you see them using simple unpowered cameras (without thrusters, not film cameras) to scout spots before sending a diver in. While they're not as cheap as their flying cousins, there are a number of underwater drones that would seem more practical for finding your cobble spots to mine on. Amazon has plenty to choose from for under 5k and even a couple for under a thousand. Is that still too much to spend on a camera to save time. Another I've wondered about is if you're on good gold and get chased off by the weather, wouldn't it be worth dropping a 20 or even 40 lb weight with a bright colored float where you were mining? I'm thinking of about a 5' cord on it so it's above the bottom, but not visible on the surface. (so you're not sharing the spot with other miners) The GPS should get you to the right area (supposed to be accurate to under 5 meters most areas) while this would mark the exact spot where you were seeing gold. Is GPS less precise that far north? Is it illegal to leave markers on the sea floor? Would a 20 to 40 lb weight with a marker move around much in bad weather?
Always insightful and honest! Great job keeping the keyboard miners in check. You probably saved a few people thousands of dollars! Lol all the best from Maine

@@stuartstuart866 thats how TV works , get a character that acts like an idiot enough so more people will sit on the edge of the chair and shout abuse at the electric box in their lounge
I don't know when Nome appeared, but it's been over 100 years, way before any dredging with divers. Just because the town is on the that bit of coast doesn't mean that's the only place there's gold. The waters around places like Sledge Island have until now been more difficult to get to, that doesn't mean there's no gold.
A sail boat converted into a sailing dredge and Sledge Island. Sounds like someone who once lived in a Yurt by the beach and who might maybe have been a former partner/boyfriend (can we say “The Clark” and now the “Black Swan”?).
I felt pretty honored a few years back when Vern contacted me for some input and knowledge on helping him with his operation. Good luck emily ..hope you have a record season coming up. I don't give input unless I'm asked. I travel alot helping small miners set up there operations all over. Yeah that about sums it up. There's a good reason why most people who set off in search of gold fail. Multiple learning curves, And the effort is far more than an average person can imagine. I've never known any venture that has more roadblocks than gold prospecting, a person must truly love doing it 1st of all.
its also 100 % psychology. Everyone will claim to be a winner but to some degree their subconscious loser streak will get them making choices that sabotage success
Long time viewer and you guys seem to have it nailed ….don’t know anything about mining but know a fair bit about technical diving, my only suggestion is to get some bailout for the surface supply. A small reserve tank and gas switching block would prevent most of the scrappy emergency ascents that we’ve seen throughout the series. There have been a few close calls, that said your divers would need to be familiar with it.
Geez Emily. Why don't you just invent a super powerful gold electromagnet and get ALL the gold? LMAO! Love what you do and wishing you the very best success. Your dad is a nut too but, how can you not like the guy? Have a great day!
I love how instead of just going "ha ha trolllll" you give fact/experience-based answers 🙂. Sometimes the comments section is good, most of the time it is junk.
Very interesting Emily. Really enjoyed your informative video. Got to laugh at the "mining suggestions " that are sent to you. You and your father did a great video.
Hi from THETA TENNESSEE I live in a 32 acre valley with 4 waterfalls and quartz everywhere several veins I've done a little panning but nothing serious I have a backhoe but the waterfalls are so beautiful I'm not sure if I want them destroyed 😃 been watching you guys for years and I really appreciate the hard work that you've had to endure hope all is well just wish I could tell if I'm sitting on a huge pile of gold lol
Hi Emily! Big fan here. I have a question for you. Since I only get to see what the editors of the show choose to put it, it appears that you guys only go out for 8 hours a day? Or is it longer? If your on the water, on good gold, weather is permittable do you ever pull an all nighter?
I told you about using thick felt for fine gold, it worked for me. Nevada has hard rock deposits in thin veins. When crushed most becomes super fine, flaring out the sluice using felt works. You have a great setup but I think you should raise up your pontoon boat and increase the length of your sluice box, flare out the box with fine expanded metal. Especially when nome is known for flour gold! You are one of the best miners up there and doing a great job!
I understand what’s wrong with all of these ideas but I don’t get what the problem with fixing a suction hose and a camera to the end of an excavators boom and mount it a a barge rather the using the bucket to dig
The diameter of the hose would have to be massive to suck out the material. So you would have to have one purposely manufactured from scratch. That would be costly. Imagine if it broke due to the weight of material in a rock jam and you had to buy another one or improve the design and remanufacture another. Who would unjam the hose anyway a diver? There are in place laws about the number of horsepower a hose can have in various depths. Would that number of horsepower in the depth you have chosen be enough to suck the material up through a massive hose?
I designed a submersible lithium powered rover that processes gold on the sea floor app controlled from the comfort of your couch through satellite and bluetooth. As soon as I close the deal with Elon for the batteries I'll send you one lol.
@@demondavejeep it has a rock jam auto-unjammer feature. Also has a built in remote controlled articulating arm with a 7 finger mechanical hand if the auto rock unjammer feature can't handle it.
These letter writers must have dated my ex wife. She was into the “bigger is better” and the “more expensive something is, the better it is” lifestyle also. No wonder she left me before the year was out.
When I get these types of comments I try to remember they are made to be “helpful” and say “thank you for that suggestion, I promise to give it some thought”. Oddly most of their suggestions are something I have already contemplated to some degree but dismissed.
@@JT_70 I think Steve is probably a little eccentric in real life but I doubt he's as dim or wacko as he portrays himself to be. He does it because the producers like it and obviously they pay him for his participation.
7:27 My first Submarine experience, 1975 Guam spent 5 days under a hurricane at 400’ deep with nonstop 30 degree rolls from p to s. Many were sick. Submarine duty was the best - go for it if you think you can handle it and if you think you will even qualify to be on Subs. Mt-2 (SS) Polaris.
Right, NOME is just barely south of the ARTIC Circle 143 miles or so. I’m with you Reidels the weather and summers are punishing and very short lived. Don’t be a chump and jump into the Bering Sea! YeeHaw 🤠
Interesting but mostly highly flawed ideas put forth to you guys. But i do have a question or possible idea that may help: Is it possible to weld bars on the openings of your dredge hoses to prevent large rocks from entering and clogging the hoses?? That to me would seem like an efficient 💡! Cheers
Wow! Didn't know there was armchair miners up there also. Yikes!! You poor people:) Yep. You guessed it got them down here in sunny Arizona. Our placer deposits are in layers. You can walk up and look at the cut in the bank and literally SEE the different "blanket deposits". Each flash flood brings more gold, exposes old deposits, or simply washes away the top layer and re-concentrating it further down stream. Yet everyone wants to go to bedrock. What happens if the wash you are working was up over there at one time? No, we got to get to bedrock. Hear it all the time. Yet with a little finess, i can carefully take off a layer at a time until i hit that golden streak, that puts a golden smile in my pan, one on my face, and of course a smile on my way to the bank. I'm surprised nobody has suggested to get a huge detector and mount it on the front of your dredge. Yea!!! Take the guess work right out of all of it. There ya go armchair miners. I thought of that one. Dah......!!!!! You kids are doing great. Stick with plan (A) Why change a good, workable thing. As you said:"Increments". Lol. Peace.
I don't think your dad has heard quite enough about the "virgin" ground of sledge island LMFAO only watched a few episodes and saw you guys fighting, glad to see that it was due to work tension and didn't destroy any family connection
Can be done Emily only you need split the hose by two ways we long extended pipe for both 2 in 1 connect and can be close or away apart I wish was there!!
It seems that for many miners they increase their capability by buying bigger and better machinery and therefore need more gold to pay for it. In effect they spend most if not all their money on depreciating assets in order to get gold. And so the cycle keeps repeating.
Ok serious question, could I come up to nome, start high-banking on the beach and survive? Try to get hired on a boat, learn to dive and dredge and survive? Save up and buy my own boat go out on my own, hire a crew and survive? Buy 3 boats hire people to run then sit back and thrive?
I know the best way to mine gold in the Bearing sea. you take a rope and tie bananas to it. then you go out in a dingy and drop the bananas down to the sea floor and wait for a couple days. when you pull the rope in you will have gold bananas. Trust me people you might be able to come up with ways to get the gold but they have already been thought of and most likely tried. the way they are doing it is the most viable way found yet. I'm not suggesting giving up on finding new ways, just do some research to see if it's already been tried and how it worked out. This video is a great starting point in to that research. but don't forget to try the banana idea.

Love your content...your both characters ..sending hype from New Zealand 🇳🇿 😍
Shout out to New Zealand!
Thank you! Glad to see you in our community
I love that you are a voice of reason steve! Nice change!
Raise up your pontoon boat? What are you going on about? Why would you want to do that?
@@ciaranbyrne62 make room for a bigger sluice. There not enough room under it to go bigger or longer
@@patdexter9188 Ahhhh 👍🙂
Hey Pat if you fill the sluice runs with mercury you increase gold recovery
@@ciaranbyrne62 Ha! 👍
^^^^^ this is the feedback we're looking for
@@demondavejeep it has a rock jam auto-unjammer feature.
My girlfriend left me because I was too big and rich.
You should mention how long it takes to get to the hospital from Sledge island when something goes wrong.
nice to c u both looking well, love from yorkshire uk.
When I get these types of comments I try to remember they are made to be “helpful” and say “thank you for that suggestion, I promise to give it some thought”. Oddly most of their suggestions are something I have already contemplated to some degree but dismissed.
I’m sorry so much ideals, theories just like you see in books ,no hands on experience just doesn’t mix with reality 😂😂😂😂 needed a chuckle thank you
Your dad is funny. I like him cause you Love him. I'm sorry but I think he is stubborn and not too smart. Love ya Em !
Yeah, he's a wacko.
@@augustreil I wonder if we are seeing the real Steve or the Steve that the producers created for entertainment.
@@JT_70 I think Steve is probably a little eccentric in real life but I doubt he's as dim or wacko as he portrays himself to be. He does it because the producers like it and obviously they pay him for his participation.
Great job! Loved it! Loved it.
YeeHaw 🤠
The dunning Kruger effect has taken a strong hold on these arm chair experts.
I’m no expert, but I’m wearing more gold around my neck than Todd Hoffman ever mined.
A 2,500 oz necklace?
Nope, you're no expert.
I bought groceries today and thought about you the whole time :) Things are cheap here in Toronto!!!!!! I was happy to buy frozen pizzas for $3.
Sick burn on Zeke about the sailboat
YOU ALL ARE GREAT !!!!
This was such a fun video to watch.
Interesting but mostly highly flawed ideas put forth to you guys. But i do have a question or possible idea that may help: Is it possible to weld bars on the openings of your dredge hoses to prevent large rocks from entering and clogging the hoses?? That to me would seem like an efficient 💡! Cheers
That's a really good question! We'll keep it in mind for our next videos :)
Slow Clap for your brilliant Thumbnail!
Lol. Peace.
I don't think your dad has heard quite enough about the "virgin" ground of sledge island LMFAO
only watched a few episodes and saw you guys fighting, glad to see that it was due to work tension and didn't destroy any family connection
In any particular season how many actual days do you get on the water, mining. Looks to me viewing the show, not many. Thanks..
Yeah Just keep tweaking your dredge equipment and your technique will become more efficient. BRAVO EMILY AND HER FATHER STEVE!
Can be done Emily only you need split the hose by two ways we long extended pipe for both 2 in 1 connect and can be close or away apart I wish was there!!
huh. had no idea she was still mining. stopped watching tv years ago. wish her the best. seems like she has a practical grasp on things.
With innovation comes failures.... and a few Darwin awards with occasional entertainment value.
Thanks for this channel, great fun.
Ya know, I always thought I’d rather sand paper a tigers asshole in a phone booth then hire your dad to gold mine. This video changed my mind!
