- Hello, Crafty Friends!
I am happy to be sharing the first in a series of tutorials showing how to make 4 different sized album bases from 2 sheets of chipboard. This pretty beach themed is made using the 6 ½” x 6 ½” pieces cut from those 12 x 12 sheets of medium weight chipboard.
My intention is to bring you one tutorial every week for four weeks…hopefully posting on Thursday, but, as I have realized with this posting, sometimes life and technology aren’t as cooperative as I would like, LOL!
The next tutorial will be for the 5 ½” x 7 ½” mini album and I am so excited to see how that will turn out since I haven’t even begun working on it! 🤣
Thanks so much for embarking on this journey with me!

Hello, I just wanted to say thank you for taking time to film this and to explain everything in detail for us who want to learn but have no idea on how to start.
Carolyn, you have made the best mini album videos that I have ever watched in the last three or four years that I’ve been working with paper. Your meticulous work is inspiring. Your designs are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing all of your talent.
Thank you for your awesome tutorial!! Love the way you explain step by step instructions!! Love you, many blessings!!❤🙏🙏🙏
Such a great tutorial. Your instructions are so clear. I can’t wait to try this

Thank you…you are a fantastic teacher.
Thank you so much for sharing with us! This is such a creative project - you’re very talented 🎉 I’m excited to watch many more of your videos!!!! I cannot wait to get started on this project. I own almost 40 different full size paper pads by recollections, however, I somehow do not own the two you have just shared with us 😂 So…. now I am on a hunt for those 2 paper pads!!!! I hope you have a wonderful day XOXO 💕
Awww! Yay! I’m so happy to meet you, too.
Thank you so much for your very kind and encouraging comment. I’m truly grateful.
Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year!!!

✨✨✨
lWdy so beautiful you make it sound so easy to do it's more than super cute!!!
Loved the video. Your creations are awesome. I am a newbie and the detail is a little overwhelming on the hinges. I will keep watching till I get it. Thank you!

Excellent tutorial! You are getting so good at this ;)
Thank you, sweet friend. 🌻((hugs))
Excellent 👌🏼
I just subscribed! 🥰✨🙏🏼
I really enjoyed your video, you are very engaging and you have a lovely smile.
A fantastic video. Where can I purchase the metal bar for the bevel. Cuts
? It is not listed below your video. This album is on my list to complete this month. I can’t wait to gather all supplies and “Get it Done”
That’s what I came to look for too
Caroline, I came across your tutorial and your channel for the first time. I HAD to become a new subscriber. I have been crafting for more than 40 years and teaching for more than 30 years. You are a very talented individual. Honestly, your attention to detail is extraordinary - you can tell you have had experience in finish carpentry. I really appreciate that you explain your reasons why you would do a particular thing in a particular way, like the way you attach the pages to the spine - an elegant solution to ensure proper movement of your "signatures". I don't know why there are not 100,000 other subscribers! Well done, and I can't wait to watch and learn from your other videos.
Isn’t she amazing!
She’s the best!
Your channel was recommended by RUclips. Your instructions are great. I have never tried this type of hinge because people use double sided tape and it looks so.complicated. thanks for sharing. Would you mind sharing what type of glue you use? Thanks. Have subscribed 💕
Awww. Thanks for your kind feedback and great question! Is so nice to meet you.
I use Reptile glue and Art Glitter Glue interchangeably. I feel they have nearly identical properties.
Here’s an Amazon link to the Reptile glue:
amzn.to/3MQ8G9h
And art glitter glue:
amzn.to/3Dg3WXq
One word of caution, however. Both need to be stored in temperatures above freezing. I don’t recommend having them shipped when temps are at risk of falling below freezing.
I prefer using liquid adhesive because it allows you a little more time to get it positioned just so and it also bonds the fibers of the paper in a way that I prefer. But it really just comes down to personal preference.
Thanks, again, for the great question.
Hope you are having a lovely day!
((hugs))
✨🌻✨🌻✨
@@CraftingCreatingWithCaroline thank you for giving me tips about the glue you are using. Really helpful for a new crafter like me. You have inspired me to try using liquid adhesive. Happy Friday from NZ 😊
Yay! I’m so glad I was able to help.

✨✨✨
I just discovered your page. So happy that I did. Could you share where you get gold your cardstock from? It's been hard to find a high-quality variety. Many Thanks!
I love the page designs!! I'd planned on using this tutorial to make a masculine album for my son. However, The Simple Stories Lakeside stickers, ephmera and paper came yesterday (it's AWESOME!) and I find I'd really like to have a bigger album. Have you done an 8 x 8 lay flat album????
Hi, Carole!
I have, but I don’t think I’ve done a tutorial for a full album. I think the stand alone lay flat album tutorial I did last year was 8x8?? But might have been 8 1/2? It’s definitely on my ever growing “to do” list, lol!
Hope to have some relief from my crazy work schedule soon and I’ll try yo post one.
((hugs))
✨✨✨
Caroline - I LOVE your projects and your binding method. I'm still trying to figure out how to do the gusset attachment math for different size albums. Do you have a tutorial on that? Most of my albums are 6x9 or 4x6 with 4-6 pages
Thank you so much, Christina. Sorry for the delay…I just returned home from moving my eldest daughter to college. That’s a great question. I need to do a video about that asap.
The height of the hinge and hinge attachment are always equal to the height of the pages you want to make.
For the hinge width, I add the gussets, and 2x the hinge height for each page. For example if I want 3 pages with 5/8” gussets, a hinge height of 1/2”, and a 3/8” gusset between the front and back covers, I would add as follows:
3/8 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 5/8 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 5/8 + 1/2 + 1/2 + 3/8 = 5”
From that I would determine my spine width by adding all of the gussets. For this example the spine would need to be 2”.
3/8 + 5/8 + 5/8 + 3/8 = 2”
To determine the width of the hinge attachment, it is 2x the spine + 1/2 inch (2 1/8” gussets plus 1/2 the width of the hinges on each side of the hinges.) in this case:
1 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 2 + 1/8 + 1/8 + 1 = 4 1/2”
I hope that makes sense. It may be easier explained by showing than typing.
What kind of magnets doyou use and where do you get them. Thank you
I use three different sizes depending on the application.
12mm x 1mm
amzn.to/3zaO6Kl
10mm x 1mm
amzn.to/3oGRQy9
And sometimes I will use 12mm x 2mm
amzn.to/3PUCzFy
Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching.
🌻
Is this beach paper currently available? I love this.
Where did you get the large burnish tool
Gosh, you sound just like me!!!!!
Caroline, is this the gold cardstock that you used... if not, would you please let me know the link where you found what you did use? Gold Metallic Shimmer Paper, Double Sided, Letter Sized for Arts and Crafts (8.5 x 11 In, 96 Sheets) from Amazon. I'm thinking this one is the wrong one because it's 110#'s
This is the paper I used:
www.michaels.com/gold-shimmer-8.5x11-cardstock-paper-by-recollections/10624380.html
But you should be able to use any 65lb shimmer you like.
Thanks for the great question.

@@CraftingCreatingWithCaroline Thanks so much Caroline!!

Aww..thank you so very much, Elizabeth!
I’m truly grateful to meet you.
☺️
Wishing you a joyful weekend, too!

Uu
I love this! So many people who do mini albums go so overboard on stuff. Your albums are so my speed. Just right!
Aww…thanks so much, Stacey!
I really appreciate your kind feedback.
Hope you are having a great day!

I love the way that you are so precise! And the way you so thoroughly explain everything 😊😍
Thank you so very much, Mary!
✨🌻💖🌻✨
What was the paper collections name ?
It’s a Recollections brand hot buy paper pad from Michael’s called “Neutral Coastal.” I believe it was out a year or two ago??
Hi Caroline! Oh I'm loving the different camera angles it was so fun to see you. Beautiful albums. I love how you were able to use those 12x12 quote pages that we aren't ever sure what to do with! The waterfall does look fun😁. I'm going to take some time this coming Sunday to watch through. I think I should watch first before I dive in. I tried that last time with a super simple tutorial and ended up still messing up 😅🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️. Hope you are having a fun busy Summer. 🤗🧡🧡🧡
Thank you so much, Krystal!!!
Yay! You can do it.
I mess up all the time…remember it’s just paper and making mistakes is the best way to learn. When I can’t fix something, I just modify it, lol! My projects are always sporting a “Bob Ross happy accident” or two. ☺️ Let your creativity shine, sweet friend! ✨
If you get stuck at any point, let me know and I’ll help in any way I can.
I hope you are having a fantastic day.
((hugs))
I love the way you instruct and also think you are adorable!! Love your personality
I love the way you explain things. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you so much. ☺️
I subscribed to your channel.
wow, that was an amazing tutorial! I am just starting out and getting ready to start my first album and this is going to be so very helpful. I really love the way that your explanations were so clear and truly appreciate your time and effort to make this.
Where do you get your acrylic spacers? 😊
Just found you. Your ideas are beautiful!
Brilhante, aprendi depois de muito tempo.
I love your system and I appreciate how you share all your techniques. I love the way you cut your paper. I think you do an awesome job and you’re a very kind person. Thank you.
is the shimmer Rdstock on sale???
Love your tutorial and I have seen many because I am just beginning. Now I can do both methods of wrapping chipboard❤️❤️❤️
Yay! I’m so happy to meet you, June.
✨
Thanks so much for your kind words. I’m fairly new to papercrafting, too. You can do it! Just be patient with yourself, celebrate the mistakes and focus on your progress. This is a craft I will be learning and honing for the rest of my life. I hope you find as much joy in every step of the journey as I have.
((hugs))
✨🌻✨🌻✨
Are there written instructions for this?
I'm in awe of how straight you apply a bead of glue so close to the edge.
Lol! Thanks. Keep in mind that I’ve had some practice. 😉
You can also spread the glue to the edge with your if that’s easier.
Hope you are having a great day!
((hugs))
🤣
the hot buy paper pads are so pretty!
Thank you so much for teaching this. I make a lot of albums and I have done the covers different. I love this.💕
Thanks, Sue!
This makes me so happy. Hope you have a great day!
((hugs))
✨✨✨
I love this one, Caroline! Not just the seaside theme which is great, but all the interactive elements too. I've made several of those mechanical waterfall elements in the past but you've added some new features which are super-useful. Also I'm really keen to try the pop-up element you made on page 1. That's really cool and so much fun! You have so many useful tips, like extending the tag die, using tape to enable you to trim narrow strips (that's going to save me sooo much trouble!) and your little ribbon tabs etc. Such a professional finish, and the albums are always full of delightful surprises. Sooo much inspiration!
Wow! Can you get any better? So amazing. I just love your work! 💕
Oh my goodness. Sue you are so sweet! Thank you!!!
((hugs))
✨✨✨
A very beautiful album. Lots of detail.
Thanks so much, Margo!
((hugs))
✨✨✨
love the proto-type, such pretty paper and great elements!
Aww…thank you. I’m still experimenting to find out how many albums I can make from a single hot buy paper pad so you’ll probably see more of that paper in the future, lol!
Thank you so much, Rhea. You have been supportive and encouraging since my very first videos. I’m truly grateful for your kindness and most of all for your friendship.
Big hugs, dear friend. ✨🌻✨🌻✨
Love this journal!
Tha is so much, Debbie!
🌻✨🌻✨🌻
Thanks for the very clear instructions and your clean style! Can you tell/show us how you cut your chipboard for the covers of your albums?
And your binding system is unbelievable it’s awesome great job way to go
she's great with the camera eye contact
I am so excited!! I have that same paper collection!!!
Yay! I’m glad you like it. Jamie’s papers are so fun to play with. Hope you are having an awesome day!

This was such an awesome tutorial. I watched it from beginning to end. You are an excellent instructor. Your camera angles are absolutely outstanding. I will definitely follow your tutorial when I get ready to make a mini album.
Thank you so much, Linda. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Your kindness is truly appreciated. 🥰

Enjoyed watching you work that paper. I learned a lot even though I have made a few albums, but the way you glue is exquisite. Thanks
