Legendary shaper Jeff Clark presents his Mavericks Big Wave Gun (10’0”).

Peter Benner wrote this in his quote request:
“This a board for my father who may never be able to use it, but as his son who he taught to surf I would love to get him a custom Jeff Clark board as I grew up always hearing Jeff Clark stories.”
I worked with Peter on this unique project and talked with Jeff about the story and how to translate that into a one-of-a-kind surfboard gift.
He suggested adding a drawing of Mavericks + rocks as well as a personal quote:
"Dad, thank you for a life of surfing "
It took a while to get the blank shape, but when the gun was shaped and glassed, it came out beautiful.
I had to find Jeff to get the board, who in turn was chasing the wind on his wing foil.
After a classic case of getting locked out of your car by a friend, trying to pry open the door with surfboard fins, calling AAA to the rescue, and 1,5 hours of shivering later, we could finally record the video. We promised Peter a personal video as part of the custom quote.
Unfortunately, although the sun was setting, the wind wasn’t, hence the low-quality audio.
However, the truly challenging part of this project was shipping the 10ft big wave gun from California to Georgia.
But it worked.

When the board arrived in Georgia, it was in perfect condition and Nick (Peters’ dad) was so stoked!
This is what Peter told wrote me later about the moment the board arrived in his father's hands.
“My sister told me that he cried (major win for our part as I’ve only seen him cry once). He also bought a shirt to match the board, since he loved it so much.
Thank you again SO much for all the help, you made this the most extraordinary experience I could have imagined.”
