Easter eggs at @10:03 depict eight fictional characters as gold medal winners in the Gorgon Rodeo "hall-of-fame". Can you name all eight?

Playtested! I ran this trap twice in a Basic D&D / BECMI game at the Founders & Legends convention in 2024. Both times, the players' curiosity triggered the trap resulting in some fun, memorable moments.

Never expected to see Wally riding a bucking gorgon! That's real commitment to the bit; amazing!

Haha, well, now that I'm in the hall of fame, I'll be retiring from gorgon riding. I definitely put some top-notch acting into this one, thanks for noticing. Cheers! :-)

    Love it!
Add a rod half sticking out of one of the barrels (that registers as magical via Detect Magic), and removing that rod from the barrel causes a red bullfighting flag to appear on the rod, which also affects the gorgon.

fun trap, with risk. could see this at a carnival. They offer potions to remove the petrification, but they are costly, or have to promise to do a deed or task.

Yep, I dig the idea. The alchemists are making some serious gold on those stone to flesh potions, lol.

I'm new to D&D and DMing. Not sure what you mean by "initive count 25." Awesome idea ! The door out doesn't open until someone can ride 8 seconds! 😅

Hi Jim! Welcome to my channel, its great to have you here. And, congrats on being a new DM. :-) . So, for this video, this is what is called a "complex trap". In D&D 5e, a complex trap is one that is run like a combat encounter. The players roll for initiative so they know when their turn is, and then on a specific spot in the initiative, the trap gets a turn to release its effects. By the trap (in this case the gorgon) going on initiative count 25, it all but guarantees that it gets a chance to act or release its effect before the players get their turn. Hope that helps clear things up. Be sure to check out more of the complex traps on my channel, I have a playlist of them. They are really fun to run. Cheers!

Hey there James, welcome back! It's great to have you here again and I'm excited for you to be running games again. What are you running? A published adventure or homebrew? Anyways, I'm stoked to know that you decided to watch my channel again. I hope that you find my newer content entertaining and helpful. Chat again soon. Cheers!

@@WallyDM I'm running OSE! I think I first subscribed to you in 2017-2018? It was a long time ago. I never unsubbed and occasionally saw a few videos here and there. I'm doing a homebrew hexcrawl on OSE which you probably recognize as D&D B/X. Thanks for keeping it classy all of these years.

@@jaems3697 Ya know, I was about to ask you how close OSE was to Basic D&D. I've been wanting to create some puzzle adventure pdfs with a 5E version and a Basic/BECMI version. Maybe I'll reach out to the OSE folks and see if I can convert some of my monster stat blocks to OSE.
But regardless, thank you for being here with me for that long! I've got plenty more videos coming soon. Cheers!

@@WallyDM This may help you out. The 1980s Basic/Experienced books are identical to OSE's classic fantasy ruleset. The only changes are an occasional change for contradicting rules in the original. It is 99.9% identical. They have a ruleset called advanced fantasy which adds some new classes/monsters/items and so on to OSE's classic fantasy. Very much a good time. Cheers!

This sounds like a fun trap, i'm not sure if it a trap, technically a trap if the players interacts it.
Questions what happen if the pc uses sovereign glue to stick on the back of the gorgon or some very creative uses to stay on it

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  2 месяца назад +2

Sure thing, if they want to use sovereign glue, I'm all for it. I want them to be creative. And, let's not forget, the trap (gorgon) is most dangerous to those that aren't riding it. The party members on the ground have a greater chance of being turned to stone from the petrifying breath.
Also, I plan on continuing to expand the definition of traps over the next few years. I have some fun ideas that still fall into the Complex Trap or the Trigger/Effect/Countermeasures. Stay tuned. Cheers Isa!
