Lovely vid, cant beat a drive in an old car over the country roads on a nice evening 👌 amazing it has been in your family since new, makes it even more special 👍🙂
I love the video it's great to see the old XR . That ones got great history , sentimental appeal . I personally wouldn't put up with worn out performance. I'd definitely be tinkering with her . can I recommend whipping the engine out for reconditioning. can tell from here she's not punching. Bare minimum it would need honing out new rings , new camshaft and lifters (can't change one without the other) get the carburettor rebuilt , you can buy kits from webcon or a nice shiny replacement. Trust me the difference will be night and day- It will go like a scalded cat then 👍🏻
Cheers, new cams & lifters are on the cards with new fuel pump, exhaust and probably engine mounts. bodywork will be tidied up and then maybe a bottom end refresh. A new set of bushes are well overdue, If it wasn't obvious they're worn out at 30mph, it definitely is at 60 🤔
i have an 81 xr3 in sunburst red, they are great fun to drive, mine only has the 4 speed box to make the most of its 96bhp when new ,, a nice cheap to run classic epically now they have historic tax status , is that an xroc sticker by the rear view mirror? nice to see it on the road, enjoy
They do make you realise that a good car is not about accessories or all out power. It is indeed an XROC sticker, sure it has a matching tax disc holder somewhere !
@@grizzlywears i agree, a fun drive you can fell every input through the peddles and wheel , the brakes are a good work out for right leg, i just have to remember when i get back in to my daily driver or the first time you press the brakes you end up putting the car on its nose and locking up the wheels 😮
I grew it myself, I use it to soak up fluids that leak out the car ! I had quotes of £10K+ for this car 20 years ago, now its like £85 per year with agreed valuation

These older cars might be missing plenty of features but they definitely have something new ones don't !
@grizzlywears my 80s ones have a big missing feature this year... mot 😔 too much going on at the moment, ready for spring 25 hopefully 👍

😥used to have one back in 2000, loved it, but cant justify spending 6x as much now as I did back then!! such a good looking car though
I would even go as far as to say the mk3 was the best looking escort as standard, it's a shame no new car can look this good

WTF is with the ridiculous beard!?
Nice car-tried to buy one when I was 22; car was £1450-insurance would have been £1200 a year. 😩
