As an automotive historian, I must say that many of the companies mentioned here do not actually make cars. They make commercial trucks and/or utility vehicles.

So when we look at it in that way, TATA is a company owning certain other brands which is originated in other countries but under the company TATA presently. People need to stop confusing the brand with ownership. A foreign company (Say, Tata) might own a brand (Jaguar/ Landrover), but the vehicles are still designed, developed in the UK, it's country of origin, so it's a British car brand owned by an Indian company.

You are shocked because you don't travel the world. Nothing wrong with that. Just that it's the reason. In the Caribbean, Japan, Central and South America, Toyota, Honda, Nissan has a crap load of models that never, ever made it to the USA. As it relates to what us in America call luxury brands... similarly, in Europe, BMW, Audi and Mercedes have a crap load of models that are not in the states. They actually refer to them as premium brands and not luxury brands. The hype is not the same over there where they are made. Clearly a lot cheaper too. The S class etc is just a higher level car of their premium brand. If you want what they refer to as luxury brand, you go Bentley, rolls royce etc. The fact that you have a cheap Mercedes in europe and a higger class one slaps the brand itself into premium category. Same for Toyota in Japan. They have higher levels of Toyotas that never came to the US. For example the Toyota Crown etc is one of their highest level of luxury. A fully loaded one rivals any top Mercedes and BMW and even higher than their own Lexus. Just dropping a little knowledge for my fellow American car fanatics that haven't seen the world of cars. I have been to Europe multiple times and the so-called luxury brands are common everyday cars with a very wide range of models and engine options that are not available in the states. They control what we have access to here and keep us from knowing that you can buy Mercedes and BMW branded cars that are as cheap and on the same level as some cheap Toyotas, Hyundais and Hondas. Every one of those supposed luxury brands have a model that rivals VW, Toyota, Honda etc.

So when we look at it in that way, TATA is a company owning certain other brands which is originated in other countries but under the company TATA presently. People need to stop confusing the brand with ownership. A foreign company (Say, Tata) might own a brand (Jaguar/ Landrover), but the vehicles are still designed, developed in the UK, it's country of origin, so it's a British car brand owned by an Indian company.

I'm surprised to see how big the luxury brands are compared to those common everyday car brands.
You are shocked because you don't travel the world. Nothing wrong with that. Just that it's the reason. In the Caribbean, Japan, Central and South America, Toyota, Honda, Nissan has a crap load of models that never, ever made it to the USA. As it relates to what us in America call luxury brands... similarly, in Europe, BMW, Audi and Mercedes have a crap load of models that are not in the states. They actually refer to them as premium brands and not luxury brands. The hype is not the same over there where they are made. Clearly a lot cheaper too. The S class etc is just a higher level car of their premium brand. If you want what they refer to as luxury brand, you go Bentley, rolls royce etc. The fact that you have a cheap Mercedes in europe and a higger class one slaps the brand itself into premium category. Same for Toyota in Japan. They have higher levels of Toyotas that never came to the US. For example the Toyota Crown etc is one of their highest level of luxury. A fully loaded one rivals any top Mercedes and BMW and even higher than their own Lexus. Just dropping a little knowledge for my fellow American car fanatics that haven't seen the world of cars. I have been to Europe multiple times and the so-called luxury brands are common everyday cars with a very wide range of models and engine options that are not available in the states. They control what we have access to here and keep us from knowing that you can buy Mercedes and BMW branded cars that are as cheap and on the same level as some cheap Toyotas, Hyundais and Hondas. Every one of those supposed luxury brands have a model that rivals VW, Toyota, Honda etc.
