I'm Australian and I did a DNA test on my ancestry since I was curious. I can't remember the percentage but I have 25% Ukraine thanks to my grandfather, and I have Irish DNA which I never knew I had. For years I have been trying to piece together who that Irish bloke was. 😂

I'm a white guy who grew up watching LeVar on Reading Rainbow and seeing him as Geordi on Star Trek. I admired him as Geordi so much and how his genius and moments of heroism saved the ship so often. I especially admired the episode where he was stranded on a hellish world with a Romulan soldier and how they learned to overcome their differences in order to survive. I also loved when he met Scotty and how their different races meant nothing between them, and that the younger modern Geordi learned so much from Scotty's legendary experience and wisdom.
Somewhere along the line, we as a society forgot these messages of rising above our petty differences, but what saddens me is seeing how this man played one of the most iconic and inspirational roles in the entire history of acting and has only degraded with age, not improved. I used to say that LeVar has become nothing more than the black version of Mark Hamill, but now that he's indeed white, I guess they're both basically the same Marxist fool in two different bodies. Very heartbreaking.
Same with Whoopi and her character on TNG now look at her.
I can't stand either of them now.
As difficult as it is, especially for actors like Levar and Hamill who portrayed such incredible characters, try to separate the actor from the person. It's not easy, but once you realize they simply "acted out" dialogue that was written by someone who doesn't share their horrible worldview, it makes their performances much more palatable.

Did a DNA test for our family a few years ago. Most of it was as expected ( 80% Western European, 10% Northern European) but that last 10% was a bit of a surprise (native American, southeast Asian and African). Just proof positive most Americans aren’t pure anything. Racial pride is a fools game, no matter which side you are on.

Very few people are 100% of one thing. Almost every person has divergent roots. To ignore that is to ignore history.

Ethnically, sure, but racially, most people aren't racially mixed. I'm entirely white, mostly ethnically British, with the rest being German and Swedish, and I know this because I did the DNA test and researched my family tree.

Almost as iconic as Don Cheadle finding out his slave ancestor was owned by a Native American.
Several Blacks and indigenous people owned slaves. The few that were free occasionally purchased lovers, wives, and family members. An entirely different dynamic than what was experienced on a commercial slave plantation.
@@AldiAldiFPen There's an old census document from I believe one of the Carolinas that showed there was hundreds of black men that owned thousands of slaves, meaning the majority of them owned multiple and thats just in one state. Some had their own plantations as well. The first person to own a slave in the US was a black man who took it to court and won. What doesnt get talked about enough is that people from all backgrounds were slaves to some degree, many people who came over here were indentured servants and had to work years to pay off their debts. Many orphans were also sold or just given away to random families and used as servants or farm hands and it basically depended on luck as to how nice or mean of a family you got but many were abused and treated as 2nd class citizens, always below the families actual born children. Look up the orphan trains if you havent heard of it.

His black Great Grandfather served as a State Legislator in Arkansas as a Republican.
Year 1887.
As my grandfather got older, he began to look into our family history. One day there was a picture of a white man on the wall in the small room where my grandfather enjoyed watching tv. He explained that he was my great-great-great grandfather. It didn’t phase me at all. It made sense. And I was a young man at the time. LaVar’s hypersensitivity regarding race is a gimmick.

A lot of black Americans have some european ancestory from like 15-25% is pretty normal. You can tell just by looking. That's why it's not strange for 2 black parents to have children of varying skin tones.

It doesn’t necessarily mean he was a slave owner it wasn’t uncommon for white men to have black mistresses usually maids or nanny’s in the post war south. A lot of illegitimate children came from this up until the time interracial marriage was legalized. This wasn’t unique to the south it was practiced with the same servant class’s in Europe that blacks had then started to take over in the south.
If a huwhite actor had cried about a black ancestor.....yeah.....we all know how that would go. Racism is racism folks. You either care about color and make a big deal about it at every single turn, or you act like a normal person, shrug and move on, because it aint that big a deal in the end.

I'm going to date myself here but here goes. I was in the 6th grade when the Roots mini series aired. I remember the teachers made it homework assignment to watch the entire series and write book reports on it. I remember that Lavar, playing Kunte Kinte / Toby, was the first one on the screen. I really liked him and thought he did a great job. Then I was really enthralled with him as Geordi La Forge because I was a Trekky from watching the original TV series... Reading Rainbow...etc. But really disappointed and saddened with all the woke type garbage spewing from him recently. 💔
A bit of back story about me. My ancestry is western European North of the 45th parallel. The first one to arrive in America, came on the Mayflower as an indentured servant. His descendants fought in the Revolutionary War for America and the ones after that, the Civil War for the North. I have always been proud of Lavar's accomplishments because he was a fellow American.

A Great Great Grandfather is only 4 generations back from where Levar is. His Grandfather had to have known that his own grandfather was a white confederate, and for that knowledge to not reach Levar likely means that his someone somewhere along the line omitted or suppressed that information from the family history, to, and excuse the turn of phrase, 'black wash' him out of history. That isn't something that people just forget.
This also means that Levar likely has white relatives out there he has never met.
I'm sorry, how do you grow up in America, born and raised, you're black and you don't already know it's very probable that you have a white predecessor? Everyone used to know this, and he's definitely old enough to have been around then
