- The Terraria book that breaks progression... The Razorblade Typhoon. Since the introduction of Duke Fishron in Terraria 1.2, the early hardmode progression has given you quite the choice. Do you go through the game as normal mining hardmode ore and defeating the mech bosses? Or go above and beyond and take out a boss meant for post Plantera? Today we take a look at the best risk/ reward weapon in the game, which if obtained will make the rest of your playthrough laughably easy. Enjoy!

Even after the nerf, the Razorblade Typhoon is still an absurdly powerful weapon.
They nerfed it to the ground and still is really good lol
It wasnt nerfed, it now can hit faster due to stuff and has better dps

Honestly, it was just the only weapon that wasn't bad, i felt like. I've played ranger, mage, and melee, but mage felt the weakest post golem, pre moonlord
obviously, it's meant to be post golem. also, the nerfs were kinda dumb cause the tsunami and bubble gun were and are already better so i kinda hope it gets buffed since i love typhoon
I wish the Tempest Staff was as game breaking as Dukes other drops. Pain that summoner always get shafted
Well its not that bad. It actually has a good dps and its imo better then most of other staffs, even blade staff and sanguine, at the point of progression. Not that fantastic against some mobile bosses yeah, but excellent in mob farming and some more stationary bosses like planterra and golem. I used it most of my playthrough until i get Xeno.
at least duke is probably getting a whip next updatr
@@nikmarkal8972 it has good dps but whatever it is you're attacking has to be pretty much stationary otherwise the sharks will just miss, tried using it against empress and they would only ever barely hit her during her sundance attack
@@aseldesubruh you chose one of the most mobile bosses to fight with a summon that is supposed to be non-optimal against fast targets, of course it would look like it sucks
@@cluelessmango768 empress is not at all one of the most mobile bosses, she stays put for a lot of her attacks and even with her moving slowly for sundance they would just barely keep up; all the other bosses are way more mobile than her with the exception of maybe plantera
the weapon really needs a whole rework: either make the sharks hit multiple enemies to be good against invasions and farming or give them slight homing so that they are actually useful for bosses
I swear that back in 1.2, this weapon was much stronger and a lot faster. It used to be one of the strongest weapons in the game

Both razor blade and tsunami are both great but razor blade is on another level both ease of use and efficiency

My opinion about the early Duke cheese is always: If you manage to beat Duke early, why do you need to cheese the easier bosses?
because its satisfying to watch the mechs melt like butter
truffel worms should spawn after plantera (or even golem)
Because they're not as fun and they unlock more content when killed

the reason sock usually struggles with weapon drops is because he spends all his luck finding truffle worms

I’m not one to say that this weapon is bad. I’m just more of a melee player. But fight the duke with this weapon was such a breeze
When you play terraria on mobile you will see how shit melee is
@@TM__H3it's absolutely so hard being melee on mobile I mostly see people with a melee weapon with homing projectiles but more people with ranger, mage and summoner builds cause of how melee's (untrue melee weapons) need you to actually see the enemy not to mention the controls too..

I'd recommend getting the gelatinous pillion first if you want to defeat fishron pre mech. Even after the nerf it got in 1.4.4, it helps a lot with vertical mobility, which makes the first two phases much easier and turns the third phase into a joke.
i still prefer the amphibian boots for duke, and third phase is always a joke, especially after u learn it.

@@hell.png. You don't even need shield for duke, and many people actually struggle with this absolute joke of a boss so idk why you're saying duh. Also, there are much more effective weapons than mimic ones for duke, maybe try and beat him for yourself next time before replying.
I agree I use it for fast descent as the character can’t fall fast enough
I remember using this in 1.2 and it was so amazing. Back when your only melee options were the underwhelming Terrablade or the insanely annoying to get Horseman’s Blade, branching into the mage weapons was really the only way to get good damage output, with this thing being by far the most fun
Ah yes, the weapon that carried me through the final boss my first times fighting him. While not as nostalgic as the Razorpine for me personally, it is still quite possibly my favorite weapon in the entire game.

Duke fishrons pattern is entirely set in stone and 100% consistent. The only things you need are an option for high horizontal speed, like the unicorn or similar, a high vertical speed to switch to a platform higher than the tornadoes, and the shield of Cthulhu for a quick burst of speed to ternary avoid phase 3.
I feel like Truffle Worms have been made less rare over time. No proof of this, but I remember it used to take forever to find them. In 1.4 it feels like they’re a similar rarity to normal worms, which is super odd!
(Gelatin Crystal has definitely replaced it as the “optional boss summon thatll take an obscenely long time to get” though)
Really? I’m able to farm like a dozen gelatinous crystals within the span of like 10 minutes. I haven’t found them to be very rare at all

I think they're adding a Duke Fishron whip in the next update and I'm beyond excited, because if it's comparable to the rest of the loot it'll end up being the second or third best whip in the game.

No they aren’t. Anyone who told you that is assuming from the pictures (which by the way none look like a duke drop)
heres some tip: in the first phase when duke fishron is about to release his tornadoes, lure him to one edge of the arena and for the second phase make sure the tornado follows you to an edge of the arena. After the tornados are deployed just dont go to that edge of the arena. use a unicorn/goat right after a dash to run away from him and have 1 platform above the water + 1 platform at the extent of your wings
This weapon is absolutely bonkers. I've never tried to get it pre-mechs but on my next playthrough I'll be sure to try it out.
I feel like calling duke weapons pre mech is a bit misleading. CAN you get it pre mech, yes. Will most people be able to get it pre mech, probably not. It’s effectively a built in sequence break for those who can pull off fighting a boss designed for much later in the game.
by all technicalities, it's pre mech due to being able to be obtained that early. It's just INTENDED to be obtained later
Me enjoying this video knowing damn well I’m never going to be able to beat duke straight into hard mode.
I remember getting it the first time when I played Terraria for real (going mage first because I like mage in general). Got a lot of oddball stuff, until I went to razorblade when the guide proposed it (pre-golem, wich is normally when I manage to do the fight).
I went all the way until moonlord with it. normal mode you really don't need anything else. Today, after the nerfs, I learn the pros and cons of other weapons, but getting razorblade is a key part of the progression for me.
It's insane how this weapon can be used for the entirety of hardmode. If you get it early as possible the rest of the game is such a breeze. The other weapons are strong too, but you need brain power to kinda use them, meanwhile razorblade is just hold down left click.

@@MrMonkey2150 Okay, but you can literally run really far away from the boss and still deal insane dps. Tsunami, flairon and the midshark staff you need to have the boss on screen.
@@MrMonkey2150summoner requires the most skill out of all of the classes and the duke summon is just bad. Summoner requires you to be up close with subpar dps and the lowest defence out of all of the classes. Even its good hardmode weapons require skill to get (sanguine needs dreadnautilus terraprisma needs daytime eol)

i remember getting this on my first time fighting Duke Fishron in the first world i made (back when i got the game in 2014).
loved it, and is one reason i tend to favour the mage class.
though i haven't fought him again since that world, lmao.
Its been my favorite weapon for ages, and recently I've been using a texture pack that turns it into my favorite videogame weapon, I will never stop loving mage and I will never stop loving the razorblade typhoon.
I have used and I didn’t really like it idk why I didn’t but that’s just me. I do see how some will like it and how it could be very powerful. I believe the main reason I don’t use it is I don’t usually play mage, I usually go ranger

I love all the spell tomes in the game, and this one is definitly part of the reason for that, as well as the golden shower (for support) and the demon scythe (as it looks cool)
Tempted to try doing a spelltome only challenge at somepoint, though maybe i'm not brave enough to go poke demons with a keen copper shortsword 😅
Love Razorblade Typhoon, got it after Plantera my first time playing Terraria, and used it for EVERYTHING.
This weapon was super powerful when I used it in 1.2, and it's still powerful today. The Truffle Worm should really only spawn post-plantera
Yes, but actually no! Duke is for challenge and optional boss so its not bad to have it right there. Duke need more investment than other bosses and gets challenge vs rewards good

Literally every weapon the Duke drops can break progression in half, even the tempest staff to an extent
Obviously, considering that Fishron is a post-Golem boss. Breaking progression would obviously give you progression-breaking weapons

I got RT on my first play through in 1.2. I was waiting for other weapons to beat it out but they never did. Even during early 1.3 it had the best mana cost to damage ratio.
Bonus fact, it has an amazing projectile design and sound effects

This is my favorite weapon of the duke and mage clases in general, And just a few days I tried the duke pre mechanical, And they gave me the razorblade typhoon

The even more funny part is that nothing ever actually outclasses it imo. There's not a better homing+piercing mage option in the game even post moon lord.

This weapon is so good, even tho i got things like the purple glove and the last prism, i find myself using the typhoon, because it deals damage pretty much as good as the other two and doesn't need as much mana.

I beat the game with 4 weapons, the vilerhorn, bee gun, meteor staff and then the razor blade typhoon. Master mode for the worthy was hard but dang it was fun.

Before the nerf, I've been using Typhoon and lifesteal set Spectre armor, and rails to beat moon lord, though it's sad that it only fires 1 disc now 😢

Realizing I have trouble with fast bosses because I use my off hand for the arrow keys, meaning my dashes come out like 2 frames later than intended. I usually save Fishron for post Moon Lord...

If you fight duke fishron after golem, it isn't really that big of an upgrade on higher difficulty. I find myself using laser machine gun or razerpine more effective; it doesn't feel as satisfying after the nerf and i was dissapointed when i got it and felt like it was really slow :(
This and the Nightglow are tied for my favorite weapons in the game. They're the reason why I main mage.

This weapon singlehandedly makes every pre moonlord magic weapon obsolete
Crystal assassin armor provides mobility without sacrificing an accessory slot for shield of cthulu and its class agnostic you can make it work on any build.
Adamantite and titanium to me only seem helpful for destroyer to survive a surprise laser or 2 thats honestly it. Dont waste adamantite or titanium on armor its not worth the hassle save your rescources for pre plantera prep.
they need to make it so that the Duke gets super enraged if you fight him pre mech bosses as he used to be the final boss
I remember playing with friends in mobile terraria 1.2 version and I dont remember how exactly, but I think I broke bookshelf and got razor blade dropped at first 2 hours of our gameplay, so it defeated the whole point in playing essentially.

Lucky me since in one of my terraria worlds there's a very specific special place that always respawns a truffle worm and i have absolute loads of them sadly I'm trash at beating Duke fishron and took me till i got the Zenith beaten empress daytime set up loads of turrets from the moon lord and potions till i finally beaten duke fishron beating it on mobile is hard for me

I'd go "it's just sad that it got nerfed" but it's still legit a really great weapon.
It didnt really got nerfed the gane reduced the fire rate and increaced the damage now it does better single target dmg but worse against groups, so its better for bosses
@@lucisnoandadre2334 even after the fire rate nerf, it got nerfed to shoot 1 projectile of 90 damage over 2 of 60 in 1.4.1- an update where most magic weapons got a flat damage boost.

@@sarojandongol1482 pre nerf the single target dps was worse becouse it shot so fast that the inmunity frames ate part of the proyectiles, now, that doesnt hapen but its still a nerf
hardcore dps mains use the bubblegun
I would seriously recommend you try out a pinch of evasion accessories, since duke fishron does some massive dmg, so you should try getting hollowed armor and a BOC, so you can make duke much easier
As a player who occasionally skips to Duke Fishron at the start of Hardmode when playing vanilla expert mode, true.
