    I read that hens need 14-16 hours of daylight a day to continue to lay. So, as the sunset's earlier and rises later, there is less light. A bright light or two can mimic daylight and the hens should keep laying as usual.

    • @merakimagic777
      @merakimagic777 12 дней назад +17

      You're right, they do lay less and less as the sunlight gets less. My chickens are still laying 1 egg each a day. You can put up light to mimic sunlight but I think it's good to let them stick to their natural pattern. It gives them a little break from laying, they need that extra energy through winter time.

    • @shawnas7984
      @shawnas7984 4 дня назад +1

      Hens, similar to human women, will always release eggs, regardless if they're fertilized or not. Actually, the eggs we eat are the unfertilized ones! I always love making the joke that we eat chicken periods. Fertilized eggs would have a chick inside, and is actually a delicacy in Asian countries called balut. So no, hens will lay eggs even if there's no rooster. In fact it's better to not have a rooster if you only want eggs

      It depends, if it's during summer and the chickens are young they'll llay a lot, but during the winter you'll definitely have days with zero eggs even if you have more chicken, they also lay less if they're too young or too old, but in their prime during peak weather they will pretty much lay an egg a day

    • @aloras405
      @aloras405 14 дней назад +3

      There are many breeds that lay white eggs. The most common breed used in egg production is the leghorn.
      As far as the brown egg more expensive than white, it’s all about the perception of the culture at the time. Since white eggs are the most common (due to previous preferences of people) people started assuming that brown eggs were “farm fresh,” and therefore will pay more for them.

      Change it to a layer feed and just make sure they are getting plenty food and clean water it takes a while for them to start laying often but you will not always get an egg from every hen every day sometimes they need break days I have 6 hens and I get 5-6 a day. Just really make sure they are getting food because me and my family were on vacation for 3 days and our sitter forgot to feed them one day and we only got 2 eggs and at that time we were getting 5-6 a day! Hope this helps!

    How did they get pregnant?

    • @AryaRosePrepper
      @AryaRosePrepper 14 дней назад +5

      They don't need a rooster. Without the rooster, the eggs are simply unfertilized is all. With a rooster, they become fertilized and thus can have chicks. This is why many jurisdictions (counties/cities) in the states don't allow roosters (noise and too many chickens). Where I'm at only allows 6 hens and no roosters in residential areas.

    • @aloras405

      Chickens don’t get pregnant hun.

    • @sam_vos
      @sam_vos 13 дней назад +2

      They lay eggs regardless, doesn't mean they "pregnant", the eggs she has are unfertilized so no baby chick can be hatched out of it, those are the kind you usually buy in the store as well, but if you have a roster, you can have fertilized eggs and chicks if one of the chichens decides to nest on them or you can put them in an incubator

      They don't get pregnant. They lay eggs regardless of pregnancy. They eggs are sterile ie: no life, no chance of turning into a chick. Only with a male can the sterile eggs become chicks before the hens lay the eggs, of course.

    • @noraovermann2042
      @noraovermann2042 16 дней назад +4

      They aren't. They do lay eggs but those are infertil, means that no chicks can hatch from them. So you need a rooster for baby chickens but not for the eggs. :)

      They are birds, so they dont get pregnant, but I get what you mean😂.
      Remember that humans don't need a sperm to release an egg every month either, the unfertalised egg is discarded every month with the menstrual period. Similarly hens lay their eggs whether they are fertalised or not. The main difference is that they wont hatch into a chick because there was no male to ensure the eggs are fertalised.
