- A building that made for entertainment is as only as good as the events and people that fill it...and this one has been better than most. It's called the "old barn" and it sits in a town that is known as the "Sweetest Place on Earth." When Milton Hershey built this beautiful structure is was the first of it's kind in North America. Recently I took my camera to Hershey, Pennsylvania to check in on this historic building that housed so many memories. What I found was a Classic Venue.
What a marvelous arena no doubt and am so surprised with Hershey Park's endless need for more land this building hasn't been demolished. Alot of great memories and not a bad seat in the house!
@4640jds I'm not saying it should be demolished I'm saying I'm surprised it hasn't! Hershey isn't exactly known for keeping what's old just for the sake of it. I love the old Arena... Saw many a Bears game there I hope it doesn't go anywhere!
I remember as a kid climbing up to those top seats. It's freaky. It almost feels like if you fall, you'll fall all the way down onto the ice.
I learned to skate and play hockey there. I was an usher there for two years while in high school. I was the on ice mascot "Coco" for five Bears games in 95 when the regular guy was on vacation. Also, my grandfather was a carpenter on the construction crew. Love that old barn!
As a Bears fan, I'm still begging for the Hershey Bears to return to play a game at the HersheyPark Arena!!!
Love this old arena. Thankfully, we played our 1991 state championship game here when i was afreshman basketball player at hishop hoban high school in w-barre. we changed in the old locker rooms. that was in 91 ...30 years ago and it was archaic n moldy and rusted n dirty then. the floor boards were old. the seats were faded. its just suc a classic venue. so fortunate to have played my state champ b-ball game at this arena
This brings back memories. I grew up 5 miles from Hershey and I can remember as a teenager going to watch Hershey Bear games here with my also teenager cousin in the 1970s. We paid $2.50 to sit in the Peanut Gallery otherwise known as General Admission.
I wish I could’ve gotten to see a game there. My dad has told me stories about how he and his brother would go to games when they were younger.
Hershey must stay forever old classic arena
Lot of great memories in that building.
Wilt with the all time performance in the arena
Fantastic mini-documentary on a truly classic venue! Home sweet home!
Great vid.. Thanks for posting.
Two things at Hershey Bears games that wish I could have seen
1. Bears winning the cup in 2010 at a game I was at ( was at a game that if they won the cup would be presented)
2. seeing a regular season or playoff Bears game at the Hersheypark Arena
I was the representative for my Middle School and High School Choirs when we competed there and was standing in the center of the arena in the round during the awards ceremony. Such a thrill for me!!
I miss watching games in there.
Oh Bruce, how you are missed! Wish you were still running Hersheypark.
ahh the arena of my youth!
I like the music
What about all the great WWF wrestling moments that happened here?? And on national television no less....appreaciate you mentioning that, SMDH
Went there on road game from Springfield in 1976 and I thought then there were wooden seats.
Can the wretched "music."
In this arena wilt score 100 points
