  • In today's video I complete a full in-depth review and explanation on how to install a double din radio in a Saab 9-5. This one is particular to the 1998-2005 9-5, but its the same situation for the 2006-2009 9-5 model as well. Below are links to all products purchased and to the forums I used while researching. In addition, be sure to now the steering wheel controls are easy to program! I hope you enjoy this video as there wasn't many out there on this topic that were solid educational videos. Thanks for the overview. One thing I discovered is that the instructions Crutchfield provided do not mention the pre amp out connections. Rather, their instructions have you connecting Alpine harness speaker wires to the Metra speaker wires. I guess most people would have caught that error, but not me! After thinking it through, I realized the error. Splicing RCA male to the Metra speaker wires then connection the the RCA female on the Alpine solved the hiss and poor audio quality. And the PAC is a little finicky, too… Directions for that ALSO needed revisions, but now we are enjoying upgraded audio! Thanks again for the video!

    Wow. That’s a lot of work, but glad you sorted it. Satisfaction.
    I used to use an FM tuner, but got annoyed with white noise and re tuning when moving areas, so I plumbed in a Saab Blue unit. Cost around £80. Had to take unit out, and it feeds of CD multi changer feed. I use a (lovely) Brodit iPhone holder on dash, and Bluetooth to car. All steering wheel buttons work too. Total time, c 30-40 mins install. No change to dash unit looks👍🏻

      Used the Pac for steering wheel controls on my 9-5, but only some of the buttons are working. For instance, skip forward works but not backwards. Volume up and down work, but not source button or next button. Any way to fix this? Brought to 2 installers, and neither can get it to fully functions 100%. I even bought the metra steering wheel control harness, which metra says doesn't fit, but a bunch of saab people have used with success. But the installer won't put it in, because the metra harness needs to be spliced into the wires on the SID. Help?

      What did you do with the SID in relation to pac steering controls? I saw you mentioned that in the video, but what? Maybe that is where the install of mine is wrong?

  • @aranarth1988
    @aranarth1988 3 года назад +9

    Nice work.
    Just a couple of suggestions: you didn't need to run wires for switched and constant +12 from the light switch, both those signals can be found in the SID connector. I cannot quite understand the concept of an additional switch to trick the head unit into thinking that emergency brake is engaged, I would either tap into the wire going to pin14 in the main instrument unit connector, or wire permanently to the ground, but that's just me.
    Do you have an AS3/H-K system? How is the sound quality after the install? I'm asking, because factory unit uses balanced audio signals going to the factory amplifier, thus sending a regular line output from aftermarket HU can compromise the sound quality.
    Nevertheless, great job covering the whole topic, since installing an aftermarket head unit in 9⁵ is not an easy one hour job and as far as I know, no one made a video covering all the aspects of it.

    • @denzellima3079
      @denzellima3079 Год назад

      Some head units that allow for video play require you have the emergency brake engaged (twice in a row for that matter) in order to allow video play. If you were to have a USB stick loaded with movies and plugged it in, for safety matters, it would require you to be in park and with emergency brake engaged. Can't be watching movies on the freeway.

My factory radio is untouched so I also have AM/FM, CD and tape. And I can just take it from one car to another.
