I’m 62 and this is the most informative & well presented video guide on foundations I’ve ever encountered. Thank you so much! New to your channel & I’m subscribing. 👏👏👏👍
Thank you for your video! Having exactly the same skin, conditions and age as you, I am following yours products and formulas, and am very happy. Just like you, I always thought I am pink undertone due to my redness and rosacea, but I am not. Please keep posting!
Hi Kiki, Thank you for this helpful information. I have realized in my morning routine that my vitamin C was causing my skin to have an orange cast no matter which foundation or tinted moisturizer I used. My favorite is Nars , I feel it is most flattering on me. I love Estée Lauder also. 🌺 have a wonderful day
Wow - this is a video that I’m going to have to re-watch. So valuable and educational! I feel like there is room for you to elaborate on some of these issues - especially color selection. Thank you!!
You are so right on having to go to neutral for those of us with broken capillaries and a few little scars with yellowish scar tissue. I am 1N in Dior Face and Body and look at all lines to their lightest neutrals.
So many of us do. I noted when I was wearing yellow foundation, even though I looked like my head belonged to another body - I noticed the color was flattering. That helped me come to the conclusion that I am yellow - just not saturated. Keep playing and observing!
It’s so hard … every brand is different you have to test them in store I’m 10 different shades lol … thank you so much for all your wonderful videos! Thanks for all the Help !!! 🤍🤍🤍
I'm so enjoying your masterclass series. You offer alot of good information - and I agree I wish someone had explained in detail "the how to find your foundation." I'm better armed now going to the store to purchase my makeup...I also loved the eye shape video -my gosh girl how many eye shapes are there?? I am mature but by golly I will get this makeup routine right. Thank you thank you.....
I’m 48 and have worn makeup since I was a teenager. Just in the last 6 months have I realized that I have a fair olive undertone. I’m relieved to know why I’ve always had such a hard time finding foundations (and learning that surface redness does not equal a cool undertone) but now I understand how few foundation brands actually offer something that is a good match. I’m really enjoying this series. Such good information - even for a makeup guru 😂
I hope you have found a fair olive! Check out Armani - I think they have olive, Lisa Eldridge (I don't love the foundation, but you might) has olive. I think Haus Labs does. I'm seeing more and more fair / light olive but I just can't remember from where!
I need to research Armani. The one everyone recommends is too dark. I have Lisa Eldridge and 2.5 is a decent match, but I don’t love the formula either. I’m finding the YSL All Nighter in LN3 is a good match, but full coverage. The struggle is real!! My other complaint about neutral shades in foundations is they’re so often peach. I guess that’s the combo of pink and yellow. But I just look like a pumpkin in those shades. Surratt 1.5 is ok. Not quite olive but because the dew drop is fairly light coverage, I can get by with it.
I love an undertone video-probably because I’m light and olive, and it’s always been a challenge finding something. I’ve come to terms with getting more than one shade of foundation and mixing. While there is some progress with olive tones, companies still don’t take into account saturation of undertone. And that’s not an olive specific problem. We need to consider scale from light dark as well as desaturated to saturated. I can’t understand why companies keep coming out with foundations that are straight down the line pink, peach, or yellow esp. in the light shads(Haus Labs!).
I completely agree as a light olive - not to mention olive can be cool, neutral or warm. It seems impossible to have it all as an olive. Have you tried adding blue color corrector? I haven't tried that yet but it's supposed to be a game changer.
Hi Kiki. Thank you for this vid. Very in-depth and nuanced...I like the idea of taking notes, and thank you for the final words of encouragement. Interestingly enough, I am a light to medium but with cool olive tone. I generally do not use much foundation, except for a special occasion, so use a concealer around the eyes but spot conceal the little sun spots around my face. (Dior's Forever Skin Correct has been just perfect for me in 2CR) I have a big sunspot on my cheek that can NEVER be covered so I just embrace this and work around it. My journey into foundations is only just beginning, and as you said, there are so many products out there, so much choice. Something would be right for each one of us.
Ruddy mother/sallow father - I'm a unicorn combo! So far Rose Skin tint shade 50 is my favorite - wish I could find something with a little more coverage.
Kiki, That was just brilliant, thank you so much!! I am fed up with this foundation business. Yes, it is so important to get this first step 'right' (like a good fitting bra!). BUT finding a store that offers samples in the UK (unless you live in London) is a no no. So, it's down to trial and error and of course expense. I also find that my skin changes so with the climate. For example: it's humid and overcast here at the moment making me feel uncomfortable and itchy- especially my face for some reason! I have good skin so want a light coverage but finding one that layers well, feels hydrating throughout the day and is fragrance free is a bit of a nightmare. I would love to try the Rituel de Fille but they don't ship to the UK ; others such as Eborian BB just oxidise as the day progresses. It feels lovely in the morning but just pills by lunch. UGGHHH. Do you get the impression that I am not ageing gracefully? ☺
No, I don't get the impression that you're not aging gracefully! It's not too much to ask for foundation colors that suit real people (who are these orange people??). I'm glad you found the video helpful!
I have a pretty neutral undertone but my veins are more green than they are blue but what’s weird is I look so much better in cooler undertones I think bc my chest is always so pink/red … I seem to look best in golden or neutral cool foundations…almost like I have pink surface tones….Im interested to try the Valentino foundation in one of the “pink surface tone” shades!
Great information!! I would love to cover all my sun damage/age spots. However I agree with you that if I try to cover/wearing full coverage foundation isn’t the answer. I would love to find a great medium to light coverage in a light medium neutral. Seems like a unicorn these days.
Super helpful and detailed. I am a definite neutral and so few brands really nail that undertone. No savants in my stores. Usually people who wear dramatic makeup. One rare moment I was helped by an associate with the most perfect poreless porcelain skin. Striking! Much lighter than mine by far, but she understood the fair skin challenge. Nevertheless, we still struggled together. I really liked her effort and of course she no longer works there. 🫤 The reference to Working Girl was great.
That's a great video with very useful tips!! 😊 However, I would not recommend the "veins method" at all: I have only clearly blue veins, but my undertone is very yellow! I don't know if my veins look blue because I have an extremely fair complexion, but despite being so fair, I have no pink in my skin for sure
The Vein method doesn't work for everybody - but it works for many. In the same way the patch check on the side of the face works for some people, but not people who have discoloration.
I super love your videos. I have very similar skin, eyes and age as you. I was wondering if you could do a more in-depth video about setting concealer and powder. I have Hashimotos which is likely the cause of my puffy eyes. I have a trough as well. I know you like By Terry powder, but presently it's out of my price range. I also use the Beauty Blender skin tint which I love. Thanks for all your great videos. I stopped wearing makeup for a long time. I also love the way you don't overdo your makeup and go for a more natural look. You are super beautiful! I'm growing my hair out as well and have long hair. I also went for went for more yellow tones, but it just made my skin more yellow. I realized I need neutral tints.
Ulta gives me samples… buffet style 😂 I bought a bunch of plastic sample jars w lids on Amazon n I take them to ulta with me 😅 I also keep white and blue pigment on hand bc I order on Mercari alot. It’s better to order darker than lighter since I have those pigments
Funny, I have a few different foundations which all look great on my skin (in my opinion) but comparing the colours on my arm they look pretty different! Which means to me that you can make different colours work on your face maybe depending on the finish and how much product you use? I have no explanation for that😂 I love the NARS Soft Matte foundation as a matte one. It really does what it claims to be.
I also have many different foundation colors that work for me and look great. But - I've owned many foundations that are just wrong. Our skin is comprised of thousands of colors, so there is a "range" I feel, we can work with. When I swatch my foundations that work for me - I do see similarities between them.
At department stores, the people work for the makeup brands - not the actual department store. I do find them to be much more knowledgable and trained (especially skin tones). Nordstrom has probably the best and I find them not to be pushy. I have never been matched correctly at a Sephora or at an Ulta.
I use the original bare minerals in ivory. I need more coverage but no settling/caking. Im 50 with light cool skin and redness and texture. Any suggestions?
Lols. I've never had a good color match at Sephora. You are so right! Had to figure it out myself. 😊
I also think you can see different consultants for the same brand in different stores and get 3 different colours.
Amen! It's maddening!

Glad it was helpful! Thanks for subbing!!
Hello....I hope you are not too badly affected by the storm! Stay safe. 😊
That was a fabulously comprehensive video. Informative and great delivery. I would question the Melanie Griffith analogy though. LOL
My skin is very similar to yours. I too find neutral works best
Thank you for your video! Having exactly the same skin, conditions and age as you, I am following yours products and formulas, and am very happy. Just like you, I always thought I am pink undertone due to my redness and rosacea, but I am not. Please keep posting!

Wonderful video. I completely understand the oxidizing happened to me so embarrassing. I was orange! Anyway thank you very much for your advice 💕

This was an incredible broadcast!! I gave up wearing foundation as i got older. Many thanks once again ❤
You are so welcome! I hope it's helpful!
This was very informative and helpful. I have trouble determining my undertone.

Hi Kiki! You should name this series, Kikis Makeup Klasses. Just a thought. Have a great weekend. xo
lol - made me giggle!
This was a great video, Kiki! Thanks for all of your hard work 🤗
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
So very helpful - and just what I needed! THANK YOU!

Saturation of undertone is key!! Like I said, I'm a yellow undertone, but very lightly so and most companies produce very yellow undertones!
I completely agree as a light olive - not to mention olive can be cool, neutral or warm. It seems impossible to have it all as an olive. Have you tried adding blue color corrector? I haven't tried that yet but it's supposed to be a game changer.

Take a look at the foundations I've listed in the description box. Might be a great starting place.
Great information. Thanks for taking the time to be so thorough and helpful.

I love it when an SA wants to help investigate and seems to take an equal interest in finding a solution! The struggle is real!

I have a video called Concealer 101 you might want to check out
I'm light-medium neutral golden, its tricky though. You're right most are too yellow! Frustrating!
and "golden" and "yellow" are different, which can be confusing

Do you mean the mineral powder foundation?
Great video!!!! 😊
Thank you!! 😁
