Even if it does, perhaps this should not have been bayonetta 3 with this plot, but bayonetta 4 instead. Have bayonetta 3 give a spectacular senfoff to the convoluted intertwined timelines of bayo 1 and 2, and its theme of balance.
For the abstract combat opener we delve one last time into the themes of this trilogy, balance, free will, and the price of fighting for it.
Bayo 3 opens on a halloween cityscape, that quickly escalates through the prologue into the apocalypse. Demons invade purgatorio, and your demonic summons will not head your call. We make it to the Gates of Hell cafe, and get the explainer: with us finishing off the god of unified creation, and the god of chaos, now there is no one left to guard the barrier between the realms. Only a lumen sage, and a powerful one at that, could put this right. Loki, knowing as usual where to be and when, offers a suggestion. Bayo is a child of the lumen sages. She can probably learn their arts, if he sends her back in time. Act 1 through 3 see bayonetta trying to find a lumen mentor. Earning the right to speak to the head of the lumen sages but ultimately gets rejected. She is about to give up on this plan and start looking for another way when a lumen sage catches up to her. He has gone rogue from the order for this but agrees that if things in her time are that dire he will not let the world end if he can help it. This is an even younger Baldur. We take him to a hidden training grounds and begin to spar, when we are caught there by an umbran witch, bringinging the story of the past to completion with bayonetta accidentally causing her parents to meet.
At this point we hit the first major plottwist, as we're yanked back into present day with only very basic training. Why? Well, the Gates of Hell cafe is under attack, breaking Loki's focus. Act 4 sees bayonetta trying to escape the place with Enzo who is somehow always there, and loki, while our favorite bartender unleashes his full might to stop the big nasty from persuing us. The plot from there would then see us return to Isla del sol to learn more from what was left behind by the last lumen, as well as other special locations both new and returning as bayonetta slowly learns the to her unnatural ways of the lumen sages to take the fight to the Father of Lies, which is what i would call the big bad of hell title wise. For summons in this game she learns hoe to bring out her father's angelic companions.

The most ironic thing about Jeanne’s “first” death is that right before she gets stabbed, Bayonetta gets GUTTED by Strider and just brushes it off with hair regeneration. Multiple times throughout the many singularity fights, in one instance the Bayonettas are kicking ass just to all be wiped out with some kind of power wave from Singularity Balance. When one of the BIGGEST things about Umbra witches is their dexterity and swiftness, it makes no sense to be this inconsistent. This game has such great footing, then rips it away with little dialogue and lack of effort in writing a multiverse scenario.

My biggest disappointment was that they did barely anything with the Brave Cereza plotline.
I understand that it’s important to set realistic expectations. But I really did expect to see Cereza travel to our Bayo’s universe to save her, in a nostalgic play on the events from the first game. Especially in conjunction with the lyrics of Al Fine, which I thought were about Cereza’s connection to OG Bayo, not… Luka x Bayo.
The end result instead feels like a clumsy attempt at fan service, rather than an epic, full-circle reunion.
They could have made her death scene work so well with this concept, too! Imagine ‘We are as One’ playing as Cereza comes to OG Bayo’s aid during the final boss, smiling as she sacrifices herself to save everyone in the multiverse. COMPLETELY AGREE!!! The game's story really is the epitome of "why did I bother?"
I especially got that feeling in the last of the Egyptian chapters. The game has really big levels, and lots of hidden collectible, so it always took me a lot of time to finish each chapter on my first playthrough. And after having seen the first 2 variants die, then the Jeanne variant die as well, I thought "ok, well maybe Jeanne was the Arch-Eve and this Bayo variant will survive", but then obviously no. I spent 1hr on a chapter just to see our Bayonettea fail again!
And there are so many other example, the worst I can think of are Viola's fight with Strider in Egypt where she gets defeated in cutscenes twice (even after activating her Faerie powers!!!) and the final battle against Singularity where Bayo needs to be constantly saved just to die in the end.
Also, the game really disappointed with the variants. The first two games really made me expect an interaction like "hi, I'm the Cereza you saved, I didn't get locked up by Jeanne, we fought angels together and ended up rebuilding the Umbra clan, this girl Viola is one of our apprentices", instead we got "I'm you from a universe stuck in medieval times for some reason, no time to explain because I'm going to die soon, teehee"
Also, the game really introduced the concept of the multiverse, but didn't actually have the balls to outright say that this version of Bayonetta is Brave Cereza! Sure, there are hints, but when the game tries to gaslight us into thinking the second game was an alternate timeline instead of a sequel, can you blame me for not believing this to be Brave Cereza?

You know, i think the most tragic thing about blowing their load with Multiverse so soon, is that the story actually had the *perfect* excuse to segue into it set up by the second game (the effects of which i don't believe they ever brought up again). With Loki erasing the Eyes of the World which preside over time - 'The world will be destroyed, or it will find a new path. Human free will shall determine which way it goes.'
The setup for that reverberation of events to lead into a world in revolution trying to turn over a new order was practically on a silver platter. so that if they must, with 'time is no longer being watched over', could say that the barriers of parallel timelines are not being clearly defined anymore.
and you know what gold mine that would've been ripe for? Worldbuilding. Show us the cultures of the Lumen Sages and Umbra Witches before the fall (or as if they never fell), their cities and legends, duties and rituals, struggles and conflicts in their roles as overseers of Paradiso and Inferno. There's no way the freaking bible and Christianity 'only' had enough content for two games barely dipping one into the other of the otherworlds.

I replayed the trilogy recently and it's just so jarring how out of place 3 is in tone and execution. Even though Bayonetta 3 took 5ish years to come out I feel like it's developed was rushed. Kamiya mentioned how he pitched 3 after Scalebound was cancelled. Moral must have been pretty low due to the cancellation since many platinum veterans left the company-many of which worked on Bayo 1 and 2. I also remember reading a few articles mentioning how they wanted Bayonetta 3 to be open world-which never came to fruition due to hardware limitations causing the team to backtrack and readjust their development plans. I'm assuming this maybe lead to a "shadow delay". Not to mention we also know that unlike 1 and 2 being developed in stages in chronological order of the games' story sequences, 3 was developed in parts out of order-I'm not very educated in game development so I do not know if this would drastically affect their opportunity to change anything in regards to story or environment. Overall, I feel like they were rushed to push a successful product due to their recent cancellation and other failures which lead to it's story and characters being an afterthought. Bayonetta's stories have never been praised as masterpieces but they've always been props to demonstrate Cereza as a strong and confident woman which 3 lacks drastically.

So many of the points you make I agree with all my being. Bayonetta is my favorite game and just favorite fictional character in general. It's so rare to find a female protagonist who is powerful without sacrificing their femininity. What made the games great is the control the player feels when playing Bayonetta. The developers even said when after defeating angels she blows a kiss to destroy barrier that's important to show that she could have done that the entire time- she was always in control. Enemies literally run away from her because SHE'S the boss fight. While in the third game Bayonetta was never in control, in most cutscenes she's struggling or not,,, owning the situation at all. Not only she had no control, her personality was so terribly watered down in the third game. Like you said it was almost as if Bayonetta was an after thought in her own goddamn game. I also think the entirety of the multiverse plot was very...... dumb. Never once are we even given valid facts in the game stating singularity's motives or who he even is like he's just here.... destroying stuff... also he gives viola and bayo the fake task to go out and seek all of the chaos gears so he can betray them later and claim them for himself but..... throughout the game it was us.... taking them from his goons.... or an alt bayo..... that he easily killed....... so what was the point..... he already had them..... what was the fucking point 😭
But yeah Bayonetta three and the games to come betray Bayonetta as a franchise, I could really list more gripes I have but I don't think there's enough time in the universe for me to display my immense disappointment and resentment towards this title. Literally never felt so cheated from a freaking video game or work of fiction in general.

This can either be a serious scenario like Bayo saving Jeanne's soul just in time and acting like she didn't almost cry, or a goofy situation like Luka "saving" Bayo from a fall only to have Bayo reject his help since Bayo wouldn't even struggle falling from high heights.
The games never took themselves too seriously, but still had serious moments to show that it can pull off a good story. Bayo 3 forgot that rule and took itself way too seriously, trying to pull off emotional moments at every relevant corner.

I agree that the Bayo-variants should've been able to join the team, similar to Viewtiful Joe (I think). There could've been a challenge where Brave Cereza at least was able to save them, rather than just waiting for them to die and get her new weapon. If they were failed to be rescued in the challenge, the moon and singularity fight would've been harder, resulting in the game taking a turn for the worse, akin to a pacifist, neutral, and genocide run(like in Undertale), each with its own ending and reward to the player. The game's ending where Bayo is defeated could've been the genocide ending, with the failure of saving the other Variants. A full savior(pacifist) run would've been hard to achieve but led to the best ending: Bayo, Luka, and Jeanne are safe, Viola is able to actually earn the title of Bayonetta(if the story will still go on that plot point), and dark eve's fight actually not feeling like something hastily added in.
Heck, they could've had Viola interact with her multiversal moms to learn from them, even if Viola wasn't revealed to be her daughter. Even the clocktower fight in France, where Rosa dies, it could've given Bayo an idea of how to save her French-Bayo counterpart, rather than just exploding her with songs. Or when in Egypt, one of the Bayo's could've just activated witch time and safely bring her back. There could've been so much that happened in the 3rd game, where it should've given a sense of accomplishment and nostalgia than just disappointment and letdowns.

For me it was the underused variants. The whole point of the multiverse in fiction is to fuck around with characters and see what they would be like in different worlds. Yes we do have Bayonettas from different countries and backgrounds, yet they are really lacking in depth. It feels very much like they just thought "hey wouldn't it be cool if we had a Bayonetta from a different country??" and rolled with it. We barely get to know them! The dialogue is almost nonexistent between the variants and brave Cereza and they just die immediately after the fight's over, so why am i supposed to care about them when there's so little of them to begin with?
For me, the most interesting of them is Egyptian Bayo, because we actually get to see her little arc and see her struggles and her desire to be better, THAT makes me get attached to her, she's actually a character and not just a cool new skin. Her death actually made me sad compared to all the others, which were just plain dumb.
Imagine all the cool interactions we could have had if they were more developed and omg the dialogue on this game is ridiculous, Singularity is shit talking bayo and she's just like 😐

    hope it's lost.
In Bayonetta, Bayonetta should always be capable of having enough power to overcome everything she faces, not die to a perfectly telegraphed attack.
Look at Bayo 1, she can dodge bullets without even looking at them, and in Bayo 2, she can destroy bosses even without a Climax Attack, but she does them anyway because it's Bayo identity to be extra, it's not about showing her power, it's about how THAT power is her very own identity.
Remember in Bayonetta 2 when Loptr actually is capable of hurting her, after 2 completely games of cutscenes of Bayo dodging everything? THAT'S was impactful, an enemy that actually is a real danger to Bayonetta, because it's equal to her in power.

This game tried so hard to sell the idea of Bayo 3 being "the bravest Cereza" even though she felt the least capable out of the 3 Bayonettas.
Bayo 1 felt like a seasoned fighter and really knew what she was doing. She still had setbacks, but made up for them while doing it Bayonetta-style.
Bayo 2 took Bayo 1 to the next level in terms of story, telling us more about the Lumen Sages and even showing what they're capable of. She reasonably struggled throughout the story, but still kept it lighthearted because that's what Bayonetta does. No matter the situation, she's still campy and makes every fight a fun spectacle for herself and for her opponents. Nothing goofier than doing a father-daughter dance ritual that summons a giant lady in order to punch a naked man's spirit into an elephant's mouth.
Bayo 3 threw out half of what made Bayonetta... Bayonetta. Her seasoned fighting skills, fast reactions times, abilities as a witch, and her confidence all felt so muted. Her campy attitude did show up a few times like doing a dance off with Baguetta, but it wasn't nearly enough. She just watched as people died most of the time and Witch Time was painfully under-utilized. It never felt like Cereza was in control of the situation.

From the first game and everything that showed her character growth in the second game and threw it to the side.

It almost felt like someone just wanted to completely spit in the face of the franchise enforce everyone to see that they were going in a new direction. It felt like they intentionally wanted to kill the old bayonetta's off and ever sense that they could.
And I honestly feel like that's what they did, they killed off any hope that the players had a bayoneta and Jeanne. Force one of the most sexually fluid characters in video game history to become a mediocre damsel in distress and get with one of the most non sensible characters in the franchise. Don't get me wrong both of them could have ended up as a couple but there was no buildup over the past two games of this and if anything it just feels odd.
In the way they killed both her and our favorite characters off with no remorse or any type of build up is just a lazy way of killing them off. It just feels like someone had a complete grudge against the series and just demolished everything it stood for it within one final game. For all that I wish they would just sold it or had someone else come in who liked it and finish the last game. This ain't it ☹️

There are a lot of good points in this video, but I think the one I agree with the most is how the Demon Masquerade mechanic de-emphasizes Bayonetta herself in battle. For me, I really liked how in the second game, using the magic meter was for Umbran Climax, which made bayonetta’s personal attacks stronger, with occasional aid from her demonic summons. But in the third game, especially with the constantly filling magic meter, I felt like when comboing enemies, I was just buying time to summon a demon who was stronger than bayonetta to complete the battle. Don’t get me wrong, I do think that the demons in three are really cool and I like the weapons and their designs, but I felt that the demonic masquerade gameplay pulled too much focus away from Bayonetta and her own personal strength.

Her outfit in 3 does not hold a candle, imo, to the outfits from 1 and 2, which both had a high fashion aesthetic fit for a larger than life character. Both accentuated her exaggerated, gorgeous and feminine physique and had that sexualised factor that was meant to be empowering but not objectifying or tasteless, each in its own way, the first one with a more witchy allure and the second one with a more high class elegance. Her outfit in this one fails at delivering all that and instead opts for a more cutesy style that is needlessly heavy with ornaments, especially with the braid bow and the tutu that make her look, imo, like a frail ballerina.

Thoughts I had about the game multiverse, etc.
    1. The prologue did not give us any context regarding what Singularity is or what is happening to the world. The first game introduced the two European clans: the Lumen Sages and the Umbra Witches, overseers of history. The prologue [in Bayonetta 2] told us about Asier and the Eyes of the World. The third game gave random information about Viola's father. Viola should still be the narrator but have her talk about the Humuculi instead.
    2. The game did not address the consequences of Bayonetta 2's ending. With the eyes of the world gone, how is humanity affected? Perhaps the lack of eyes caused Singularity to become self-aware. I am unsure whether the game directly addresses Singularity's origin.
    3. In the 1st game, we are shown and told that the Lumen Stages and Umbra Witches settled in Europe. Perhaps in the other timelines, they settled in different locations (Toyko, Ancient China, Egypt, France, etc.). That would explain the differences between realms.
    3. The witch hunts seem like a fixed event; they will happen no matter what. Since there is a Bayonetta in every world, that means Balder and Rosa will always conceive a child, which eventually triggers clan wars and witch hunts.
    4. The angels were oddly quiet during the events of the game. Perhaps they are up to something?
    5. I doubt we'll see the end of Bayonetta. She was sent down to Inferno with Luka, who has his fae powers. Additionally, I believe Madama Butterfly is guarding Bayonetta's soul. So in Bayonetta 4, Viola will have to rescue Bayonetta, Luka, and Jeanne (her soul is probably there given the fate of all Umbra Witches), similar to Bayonetta 2.

    • @JohtoJonnyYT

      Here are my thoughts.
      1. Singularity really does seem like a stand-in for natural disasters. Man-caused, similar to climate change (for reasons I mentioned in my bayo 3 betrayed video), eventually bringing an inevitable extinction event. Humans were able to cause this catastrophe by no longer having the eyes of the world preside over them.
      2. My guess is he is never explained further or in this context cuz they didn't want rando americancs sending them death threats over a "woke agenda" (a.k.a something real that does need attention lmfao)
      3. Witch hunts might be set you're right cuz even the timeline Rosa was alive the Umbran Clock Tower was knocked down during the witch hunts still
      4. Possibly. The absence of Rodin, angels, and demons intervening here was so weird. Same with dark eve and adam. Why go after the person who could help you take revenge on singularity?
      5. Yes or maybe even Bayonetta 1 and 2 trying to save her from hell. I've been thinking about that possible scenario a lot lately

There is also a clear turning point in the story - the bit where Jeane introduces Singularity to Bayonetta before the ending - it's so obvious that Singularity is a bad guy (his mannerisms) I'm actually stunned they both fall for it. It is against character for them. This is a great video, you hit on many points. It's unnerving to see this character so easily defeated considering her capabilities. The first Bayonetta has a bit at the end where it could have been "R Type Final" depressing - she thinks jeane is dead after she defeats a literal GODDESS, and almost lets an asteroid hit her - then Jeane shows up, and it's happy again. What bothers me is that a story like the one in Bayonetta 3 would work in a whole different game, it's just that this isn't the franchise for it. For me, the themes of this game parallel the themes of TLOU (Part 1, Part 2 tells its own different story).
In Bayonetta, we could probably get away with most of what Bayonetta 3 does but at the climax Bayonetta would straighten her glasses, get serious and save the day. Not just give her all and get a hopefully maybe possibly draw between her and Sigurd.
The idea that the world is going to hell, yet people still give it their all to survive and how every person has to make that choice fits for a game where the outlook of life is bleak. We have all the other Bayonetta's fighting like hell to their last breath to save their worlds, it leads to the idea of Young Cereza making the ultimate sacrifice for a "maybe". A chance of a better future for everyone else within Viola.
That by itself is fine, if it was a standalone story where this is our first time meeting Bayonetta. A woman fighting with all she has and realizing that sometimes calamity is so strong that all we can do is entrust the next generation with the chance of a better tomorrow... but Bayonetta as a franchise has always been against that.
Both Bayonetta 1 and 2 follow the themes of "forces greater than you ain't shit, you are what you make of yourself. Humanity will thrive whichever obstacle is thrown against it because that is its nature" when fighting both Jubileus and Aesir. In a series where we've been shown that Bayonetta's real super power isn't just her abilities (as in Bayonetta 1 we saw how Jeanne also had said abilities but wasn't able to defeat Bayonetta) it's the fact that even when she's fallen right into Balder's trap, she believes Luka may be dead, and everything is against her, she can still beat the shit out of the enemy, load her gun with a fucking lipstick and say "Don't fuck with a witch!" while being fucking badass when doing so.

Bringing the astrail chain director to direct a bayonetta game was a mistake, I genuinely hope he retired from the franchise. Bayo 3 feels more like an astral chain sequel than a Bayonetta title, the tone, the story and everything feels like the complete opposite of what bayonetta is supposed to be.
I bet Yusuke Hashimoto left during bayo 3's development because he couldn't stand what they were doing with the character and the world he cared so much about.
Cerezita being the main character, travel the multiverse and see different possibiltiies for her and her loved ones and ending up meeting with the original bayonetta and both teaming up to defeat the main antagonist sounded like the most fun and interesting concept imaginable, the way they delivered the story was the complete opposite of that, it's like they tried their best to ruin the idea they had... and I mean... come one, not a single universe where balder won the custory and tought cereza lumen magic? No character interaction between other bayonetta, no nothing... Lame

Yusuke Miyata was not the director of Astral Chain.
Takahisa Taura directed Astral Chain, and he was the Gameplay Designer for Nier Automata.
Miyata worked as additional team in Wonderful 101 and Astral Chain, and was heavily involved in the cancelled Scalebound game.
I do think the fact that Bayonetta 3 is so different, is because there is a lot of new people in charge of the game, and so little of the ones that worked in Bayo 1 and 2.
Hashimoto left Platinum to go back to Capcom and is now working on Street Fighter 6. I don't think he left Platinum because of Bayonetta 3 since he was a founding member of the whole company, plus he's been tweeting and retweeting stuff about Bayo 3 happily. I don't know where this idea that Hashimoto was directing 3 came since in the Platinum's blogs it was stated that Miyata was in charge from the beginning.

Joking aside, Thank you for wording out all of the grievances I had with Bayo 3.
My idea for Masquerade for fights would be like an Umbran Climax where you had a resource that would grow and change depending on which demon you used the most before using it. Doing this incentivises the player to experiment with the Demon Slave mechanic.
As for traversal, maybe just partial manifestations would have been nice. Like having Alura create vines to ride on but Bayo is still in bayo form. This would act like a teaser for how Alraune would be as a masquerade.

As a queer non-binary afab, playing Bayo 1+2 makes me feel confident in myself as Bayonetta's existence is stigmatised in her world yet she's not ashamed of it. Playing Bayo 3 did not give me that feeling, the ending just felt like the first 2 games were just a "silly youngin' phase" bayo had, now she's a mother she's a model figure? She was a tutor figure to literally herself, Loki and Viola before she found out she was her daughter so Bayo being a mother doesn't make sense, she didn't want that lifestyle and would never go out with Luka. Idk man Bayo 3 confuses me ALOT.

I don't understand where you LGBTQ individuals keep getting this weird notion that Bayonetta didn't want to be a mother/dosen't have motherly traits, when the forst two games specifically highlight that beyond her aggressive and outgoing personality, that she is soft, sweet, and cares for the youth, even though she may not act like it. In the first game, while she is caring for little Cereza, she is obviously highlighted to be a great caregiver, and a person who would risk her life for a child. She cared for Cereza even though she acted like it was a hassel. Watch the movie as well. This expands on that fact. In Bayonetta 2, the way she watched over Loki like she was her own child was literally a main plot point, and it drove the story further. Tutor figures don't risk their lives for you, Bayonetta showed love to Loki and it was obvious from the first game that she and Lukas relationship would grow to something bigger. I think Bayonetta 3 did it in the absolute worst way writing wise, but saying it wasnt obvious just makes you look a little slow imo.

Viola essentially plays the same role as Nero in Devil May Cry 4. DMC4 generally has weak writing but when it comes to character is a masterpiece. Nero while also meant to act as a replacement for the main character (Dante) doesn’t really replace Dante. They both go through CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT throughout the game. Nero unlocks some of the power of his Sparda blood, grows closer to Kyrie, and exits with new found wisdom and a fellow Devil Hunter friend who sorta replaces the role Credo for Nero, as a master type figure. Dante discovers a new son of Sparda (Nero) which is huge for Dante as he exits his silent edgy DMC2 phase and becomes fun & cheesy. The last time Dante saw someone like him was on Mallet Island, his brother Vergil a husk of his former self, twisted & corrupted by demon king Mundus into the demon known as Nelo Angelo. Nero and Dante (and Vergil) are all expanded upon in DMC5, if Nero were to lead the Devil May Cry series I wouldn’t be all upset and pissed (as long as it’s executed correctly) because Nero is a likable and well defined character.
Viola on the other hand just gets handed on a silver platter the role of Bayonetta. They can’t coexist, nope, there can only be one.

My thoughts exactly, because Viola, as far as I'm concerned, is definitely unworthy of the Bayonetta name, and for this reason, I don't care what anyone says, I'm not going to give her a chance for shit! Compared to the incompetent Viola, Nero is more mature, competent, and disciplined due to his resolve to save Kyrie from the machinations of Sanctus in Devil May Cry 4, and to stop Dante and Vergil from killing each other, which he succeeded after awakening his true power in Devil May Cry 5.

Honestly I been a Bayonetta fan boy since Bayonetta 1, I have always loved the story and gameplay of Bayonetta. I remember when Bayonetta 3 was first announced I was holding my breathe for it to come out for so long when I first saw it’s first teaser. I replayed Bayonetta 1 and 2 probably about 15 times before Bayonetta 3 and I loved the story most of all in Bayonetta. When Bayonetta 3 came out I was immediately confused honestly the main problems is just how it just doesn’t respect it’s core values.
    1. Yea Bayonetta 3 brings in a child Bayonetta has to take care of through out the game in the form of Viola, okay, cool. Thing is viola is so damn annoying and honestly serves no purpose in the game I believe. Baby Cereza served to help Bayonetta remember, Luka served to help Bayonetta get to Jeanne, Viola…..helped her get killed??? Honestly viola could’ve been deleted and the game would’ve been the same except everyone is a lot less annoyed.
    2. New enemies just because?
These new enemies shouldn’t have been added. It makes no sense, Bayonetta 1 we went against angels because they served the Balder, okay. Bayonetta 2, now demons and angels because the imbalance of inferno and paradiso, okay cool.
Bayonetta 3 Homunculi, an enemy we never seen before, know nothing about, came out of no where, WHY? Bayonetta to me was always about fighting heaven and hell and what not, so why bring a new enemy that was not even built up to out of no where? Just makes zero sense
    3. Multiverses? Why? This was NEVER built up to? Like with something like multiverses you either gotta start off with it or build up to it which Bayonetta did neither of, just brought in a new enemy that was stronger than literal angels and demons and brought in mutilverses because why the hell not I guess? It’s such a out of the blue choice they did. It’s the third game why the hell they just randomly decide NOW is when they should bring Homunculi and multiverses to the mix like the hell?
    4. JEANNE, my god do I feel bad for Jeanne, talk about a character that always gets the short end of the stick. Bayonetta 1 she played a major role, okay cool though she was under mind control we still loved her at the end. Bayonetta 2, she’s basically deleted from the entire game and shows up at the end like what the hell, and then in bayonetta 3 SHE DIES. It’s like they couldn’t find anything Better to do with her so they went with the “okay Ive had enough LETS JUST KILL HER” and make us do this sneaky side quests with her instead of expanding on the character. She was really a gold mine of possibilities they just ignored.
    5. Luka, why out of all characters you give the character that has been human for two straight games, powers just because? It honestly felt like they did what they did to Jeanne but to Luka and said “idk what to do with this character let’s just give him powers.” Like what they did with Finn at the end of starwars. Luka being the goofy human that has a thing for Bayonetta was always funny and just charming about the character but then giving him powers out the blue was such a let down and just something that’s so different from the character it just leaves people scratching their heads.
    6. The looks of the game is awful, compared to Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta 3 just looks awful, Bayonetta 2 was just so vibrant, fun, easy to look at while Bayonetta 3 seems like gloomy, dead, and overall unfun. It’s like they’re trying to stick a fun character around a gray atmosphere, it just looks off and swallows the character making her hard to looks at, keep a track on, and just cause the game to be unfun especially with this bad story.
7.the ending, Jesus Christ talk about a worse ending. It’s just horrible, she uses gamorrah who she has lost control on before and WOW just like in bayonetta 2, SHE LOST CONTROL OF IT?!?! Who would’ve guessed right???? Wowowowow and then it kills her. Like when did Bayonetta get so dumb? Oh and having it be Luka that can cause a blow to singularity but not the thousands of Bayonetta and not bayonetta 1&2? Bayonetta has killed gods before right? Oh yea she did but something made from humans she can’t all of a sudden, wow okay game. She gets dragged to hell too because her witch heart broke too like what? This is supposedly THE most powerful witch but she can’t control her own powers even though we went through two games of her controlling and learning her powers perfectly?
    8. Viola, again. Why her taking over? This character served no better purpose than Bayonetta actually a worse purpose, why replace the main character with a character that’s just the complete opposite of Bayonetta? It makes no sense and I’m scared to see what she’ll make in a Bayonetta 4 because the character to me is just cringey as all hell.
Honestly if I were to sum up Bayonetta it would be the TikTok sound, “LOOK AT HOW WE PROBABLY WERENT SUPPOSE TO DO THAT? But we did :)” that was my rant on how bad the story is from someone who use to have a deep love for the series.

The Multiverse did honestly feel kinda like a massive missed opportunity really with all the things they could do, what ifs involving things like moments from the past games going differently or maybe a world where her father raised and trained her instead. And what we got were just Bayonettas themed after some locations. It felt more like Bayonetta on a cosplay binge than seeing new alternative versions of her.
It's sad (and funny) to say that Hideki Kamiya's other game child Devil May Cry was able to come up with a more interesting concept for an alternative timeline in a Light Novel than Bayonetta 3 was for a game which is focused on the multiverse for crying out loud!
And fun fact fellow fans: we have those dmc light novels to thank for Enzo in Bayonetta. No I'm not kidding, he first appears in those.

  • @superzilla784

As much as I loved the game, I admit I am disappointed with the lack of creativity and missed opportunities. I mean, it was an interesting idea of another universe where it was China or Egypt across the entire globe. they took over, and so now the whole Earth is like this, but it feels like we could have done even more.
    - What if Cereza was raised by her father instead of her mother and became a Lumen Sage, and attacked our Cereza when she entered that universe because it became her duty to wipe out the Umbran?
    - Jeanne is secretly a superhero when no one is looking. What if we entered a universe where superheroes were more common and they attack our Cereza because the Cereza of this universe is a major anti-villain.
    - If Luka is a Lumen Sage in one universe, does that mean the Cereza of this world is a human who chases Luka to prove his existence? a reverse of the roles.
    - What if the war between the Lumens and Umbran never happened and Cereza, Rosa and Baldur are all together?
    - What if Rosa had a son instead of a daughter and he came the first male Umbran? he was born with his father's white hair, but his mother's demonic powers. he dawns a red jacket and a large sword in his adult life. he known to be a chill dude. he loves pizza and starts a business of wiping out monsters. the Jeanne of this universe is also male, wearing a blue jacket and wielding a samurai sword.
It just feels like alot more could have been done. but that's just my opinion.

It should’ve had GOOD and BAD endings. Similar to BotW where if you win/lose to the boss of each universe, that Bayonetta will/won’t appear during the final boss. Only in this case if you don’t have X number of Bayonetta’s, you get the bad ending, and vice versa for the good one. The main issue would be finding a reason the saved Bayonetta’s aren’t in cutscenes. You’d need some reason why they aren’t with you. Perhaps they get sent to save other universes and they’re the reason a handful of those apparitions appear during that fight. Something like that.

The only issue with this multiverse plot I have is based on the name, Bayonetta. If we're supposed to believe that this is Brave Cereza then where did the name Bayonetta come from?
B1's plot was that Jeanne sealed Cereza and when she woke up, she remembers the kid nickname Bayonetta and assumes that's her name. This would be confirmed in B2. However, Brave Cereza never went into the coma, yet Luka and Enzo both call Brave Cereza as Bayonetta.
How do they know this nickname? I mean Jeanne never calls her that and she would be the only one (other than Bayo) who knows of this nickname. It would kinda be weird for Brave Cereza to just go and tell these two about that name, right?

Problems i have with bayo 3:
1: She is literally watching herself die, the egyptian level can be excused since was uncouncious but the rest, there is no reason why in bayo 1 and 2 they are reacting faster then the speed of sound but in bayo 3 she just sits there and watches herslf get killed.
2: Inconsistency, this basically my beef with her divine sin summon in the egyptian level, how the heck was she able to keep concious ontop of queen butterfly in the ancient china zone but blacks out in the desert level, that ticked me off so bad.
3: The way they just nerfed jeanne should be a crime. It says shes on the same level as bayonetta but thats a clearly a lie if she got blind sighted by a freaking crazy scientist, if you want to debunk this look in bayo 1, her and bayo literally threw lighting fast punches but yet they kept getting caught off gaurd its so stupid.
4: I literally hated that ending, if your gonna kill the protagonist could you atleast end on a NOT so crappy death scene? If i could i would erase the whole bayo x luka kiss scene and make it to where jeanne survived to fight singularity so they can BOTH go out with a bang like they shoudl have, it felt jeanne just got pushed to the side.
5: Just a small detail but why does the game feel so cencored?? Literally bayonetta in this 3rd game is the ONLY ONE WHO LOSES HER CLOTHS WHEN SHE SUMMONS DEMONS, even when you have bayo 1 and bayo 2 costumes ther hair doesnt come off it feels so cencored and it sucks really cause again in the last 2 games they didnt have this problem.
6: The whole bayo x luka thing i hated the most. And the fact that they have a child really bothers me, i love luka as a seperate character but him and bayo just....no an viola i dislike too mostly cause she has no hint that shes bayos child. Shes literally a copy and paste of luka and its really sad cause we could have gotten so much better

Those blue orbs you collect are so abundant, just scattered randomly everywhere, so there's basically no feeling of reward when you get them from enemies, as there was in 1 and 2. You barely even have a reason to go to Gates of Hell to spend them in the first place. Lollipop ingredients are EVERYWHERE. I remember actually grinding to get ingredients in the first game so I could save my halos for new moves. It was slightly annoying, but it added to my engagement. And then moves aren't even available at GoH anymore, replaced by the branching moveset screen which, while a cool concept, honestly felt way too overwhelming for me. So, basically, you're left not even wanting to collect the 'prizes' you're awarded from defeating enemies, unless you just want to collect useless junk. It just adds onto the "what's the point of even playing" feeling you talked about.

There was definitely something about Bayo 3 that felt different. I just couldn’t put my finger on it.

I think a good way to fix Bayonetta 3's flawed narrative is to have the next game reveal that someone tampered with the passage of fate, whether it be the doing of Singularity, Loptr, or an entirely new villain.

This is coming late though, but My fix for this game are:
-Well singularity is dead, keep him dead!!
-Bring back Bayonetta, I don't mind Viola being the main playable character but make her more like her mother an umbra witch, than a street punk, sometimes mother or aunt Jeanne(yes Jeanne has to come back somehow) will have to step in, as Viola is still under-experienced compared to those two.
-The way all arch-Adams were merged into one, merge all Arch-Eve into one also so we go back to having one Bayonetta and none of that "Bayonetta in the multiverse of madness" thing anymore.
-bring back the angels and demons vibes, keep the fairies though, since they can actually contribute to the story going forward.
-lastly I hope they don't forget that Bayonetta still has a dormant lumen sage blood in her, she could be the key to reviving lumen sages.
