of all the chess commentators, you have the best balance of review/explanation and action, and your English is spare, clear, and sometimes playful. and I love to "pause the video" and search for "killer move." more than before I started watching your vids, after a bit of familiarity and practice, I even nail the best move fairly often, a great feeling for someone with little chess talent. thanks.
Agreed but agatmator has a goodchannel too despite the fact he gets me lost by playing out all possible moves and hypothetical moves in the middle of the match recreation/simulation.
Mato, svaka Vam čast, zbog Vas sam zavolio šah. Vaše analize su fantastične. Uvijek uspijete šahovsku partiju uciniti tako zanimljivom! Pogotovo mi se sviđaju videi gdje nam pokazujete Talove partije...nevjerojatan igrač, meni osobno najdrazi. Veliki pozdrav iz Hrvatske!
Extraordinary play by Kasparov. Boris Gelfand has also written about these positions, where white has a tiny edge in development to go along with his unrestricted, fianchettoed KB and is able at times to cook up a tasty soup and win. It's one reason players love the Queen's Catalan opening.
Mato, your videos are always very interesting. Congrats. I particulary enjoy the detailed options and you "storytelling" style of narrating. Keep up the good work, thanks from Argentina. "Where is Argentina"=? "Is way downsouth of South America" :)
Mato you are the best you make chess look so wonderfull and understending...all the others (on youtube) makes it look so boring and they loose them selfs in everything exept the game that they showing SO BORING .. ok not everybody ...5' of your videos is 1:00 hour from others..thanks sorry for my english and greetings from Greece...
Sería fantástico si éste análisis tuviera un sobre-impreso en Español, porque entonces, mucha gente más, puede entender tus comentarios It would be great if it had an over-analysis printed in Spanish, because then, many more people can understand your comments
Was Petrosian singularly hard to beat? Let's see. Overall record, Petrosian: +691 -157 =1059 (64.0%) Overall record, Carlsen: +656 -265 =661 (62.4%) Granted you'd have to correct for strength of competition, but it's interesting that over the length of a 40 year career Petrosian lost far fewer games than Carlsen has lost already, and Carlsen is only 26 years old.
3:57 If anyone is curious why you dont take the Nc4 because after that, Rd8+. After Qd8x, white captures back with Qd8x++. Checkmate =). I didnt find the killer move but it was a great move!
I think the move that lost the game for Petrosian was dxc4. As a renowned positional player he should have opted to develop a piece than to capture material.
Yeah some chess advices are full wisdom. The fact that a legendary positional player like Petrosian forget them from time to time gives me hope that humans making mistakes like me can become good players.
Kasparov is sadic in this this game that may represent the conflict between two generations ; Kasparov once commented on Petrosian saying that he had an exagerated sense of danger ,may be this made him less free and agressive, fortunately Kasparov did not torture or kill Petrosian in reality. Mato you tortured me with your comment ,i'll get you !
The bishop on c8 never came into play and was completely dominated by the white bishop. I think it was necessary to play Rb8 at some point or black should have saced his b pawn to generate counterplay along the b file and to activate his LSB which would also connect the rooks.
Mato, i've only recently started watching your channel and i enjoy your overview and input; especially when you say "you may pause this video and try to find killer move." however, i wanted to ask you: who is your favorite chess player of all time?
@d3sibeast After Ng4 there isn't a safe place to put the queen. If the queen travels up to g7 or h8, Rxd8+ is winning the queen and the game easily. If the queen travels downward instead it is also essentially hanging itself and giving up the game just as easily to white.
Mato, could you analyse ACP Golden Classics game between Anna Muzychuk and Emil Sutovsky? I have seen analysis already, but it was so interesting game that I would like to see it from your point of view as well.
Why is it so important whether Kasparov was right- or lefthanded? Isn´t it just some odd mythology created by his supporters? By the way is it possible that we could have Mr. Mato create some opening lectures sometime? I´d like to have the Nesjmetdinov-gambit in the Siestavariation of the Ruy Lopez explained...
It is said that the right side of the body(right hand) is controlled by the left side of the brain (logical brain). On the other hand, the left hand is controlled by the right side of the brain (creativity) Must artists, such as DaVinci and MichelAngelo were left handed.
Mato mozemo li ikako izmjenit e mail adrese??stvarno bih volio te imat za prijatelja...kolko ja znam ti i gaja kuljisevac ste jedini iz balkana da rade šahovski video....a ti si mi nekako draži
Hi Mato, do you have instructional videos on how to play the sicilian for black? I'm a sicilian player, and I root for those who play the sicilian lol, even against my favorite GMs.
Mato, what would have happened if black moved Qf6 instead of resigning? This way the rook is still defended and no forced queen exchange is necessary. Seems like Petrosian is still in the game! (However I am no more than an average chess player, so I suggest this only out of curiosity haha.)
How could Kasparov castle even after he was checked by black bishop from b4 on 3rd move & again on 5th move Kasparovs King was checked ?Can we still castle after being checked? Please enlighten me.
+sat ash Once you become Grand Master, you are entitled to castle even after check. that is a joke. I am searching for guru to enlighten my in spirituality, yoga etc. But I am happy to enlighten you on the way. Check does NOT disqualify the king from castling(but just prevents temporarily). Only moving the king earlier disqualifies. i.e. King cannot castle if he moved already. Other situations prevent king from temporarily castliing are being on check, or the castling squares are in attack of opponents army.
I'd have one question. Is it true, that Kasparov was left-handed? In the videos where he is shown moving his pieces he seems to be moving the pieces with right hand as well as writing down his moves with right hand but there are still people claiming that he was left-handed? So what do you think is the truth? Thank you :)
Kasparov moved queen to attack queen and he resigned. The move I would have chosen is white knight attacks black knight, because if this knight is removed, white has queen and rook attacking rook.
As a Russian, I love watching this because it's an example of the student surpassing the master. It's one Armenian Grandmaster replaces another Armenian Grandmaster and moving up. Petrossian, Kasparov, Aronian just 3 of the names of some of the greatest Armenian Grandmasters in a long list of Armenians who are good at chess. For a small nation they have A LOT of great chess players. What do you expect from the ONLY nation in the world that has made chess a required and core part of the school curriculum for ALL students. I hope to visit it again this summer! It's such a beautiful country but make sure you know Russian because other than the tourist parts of the capital most people do not speak English well though can understand it. Still its amazing place for chess fans, the whole nation, every age group, men women they all play chess and Levon Aronian is like the Cristiano Ronaldo of Armenia. It's clean, cheap, safe and 99% Armenian so they are REALLY friendly. Tells you a lot about what they value..... As my Armenian friends say: "I'd rather have a hero with a full mind and a not attractive body, than a hero with an attractive body with an empty mind". We Americans and Europeans can learn from them. Instead of glamorizing people on reality tv or talentless prostitutes like Madonna who do nothing but degrade our cultures and provide or give nothing back to the community, we should be glamorizing and idolizing people who are truly national heroes and have intelligence not simply money or Fame.
Kasparov is only part Armenian lol most people don't even know that about him. You're right about Armenia adding chess to education but the rest are your opinion. Are you saying that Armenians aren't that attractive? They're people just like everyone else. Their culture and mindset is a little different than Europe or US, doesn't mean they have to try extra hard to make up for lack of good looks. Personally, I'd choose a country like Ukraine or Belarus, they value chess fortunate for their looks.
RulezAPower positionally black doesnt have any counter play. their is nothing black can do and if he continued to play he would experience a slow, painful death.
+Ben Hamilton If you did not stop counting after only 2 moves , you would notice that white will continue [24.Qc5 R:d1 25.Q:e7 R:c1 ] 26.Q:f7+ and mate in the next move.
of all the chess commentators, you have the best balance of review/explanation and action, and your English is spare, clear, and sometimes playful. and I love to "pause the video" and search for "killer move." more than before I started watching your vids, after a bit of familiarity and practice, I even nail the best move fairly often, a great feeling for someone with little chess talent. thanks.

'WOW' killing him softly"
great game of Kasparov
Queen side out...of the blue.
Mato thanks a lot for the beautiful vedio
Mato made a move.. And Spassky offered a draw. You're my hero
Right. To become draw offer from former World Champion, that means, you are doing very good job.
thanks Mato, because of your videos my interest in chess has increased so much..
Mato, you make great videos and the passion you have for your subject is obvious. I hope you keep doing it for a long time.
HI THIS IS MATO

I love it when mato says "What's the killer move?"
First win for Kasparov against Petrossian. The other games that didn't end in draw were won by Petrossian even more impressively.
He did a Petrosian on Petrosian.
loveley said
I found this continuation on my own and came here to doublecheck im so proud of myself lol
Wonderful video. I would LOVE to see some Tal videos. He is great
Thanks yet again for the excellent video, Mato.
Excellent commentary. This is one of those games in which it's difficult to figure out what the losing player did wrong
2:36 "Rook is in troblo"
"pon teks pon"
and now the kiing is in troblo
pon to dee van
Do Du Not connecting rooks may be the fault!
Hhhaytch pon
Nice, another great game by Mr. Jelic

Wow what a game! Beautiful. Bonus for me was I found the Queen c5 killer move.
Incase my simple "like" is insufficient, I also didn't see this right away. Thank you for pointing this out to me!
Mato, your videos are always very interesting. Congrats. I particulary enjoy the detailed options and you "storytelling" style of narrating. Keep up the good work, thanks from Argentina. "Where is Argentina"=? "Is way downsouth of South America" :)
Ofc I will I see I really good commitment to your videos !
Mato, great quality of videos. Very good work and thank you. I'm very interested.
A classical counter positional rendition by Kasparov.Thank you.
my sister won't shut up. So, i'll watch this later. -_-
+Baha Rahman Okay
+0047 when does women shut up?
(no offense to ladies this is just a joke)
+Baha Rahman We never shut up. It's just that men don't listen, so they don't always hear us.
(just kidding)
So... try saying something worth listening to? :)
Thank you so much for these videos! -chess fan
Very nice annotation thanks!
thanks for the effort! great game by Kasparov!
Great video as usual Mato.
Excellent analysis. Well done.

Petrosian was super underrated.

The king is back: Chess legend Garry Kasparov comes out of retirement
first i like videos of Mato then watch the video :P
i love Ur videos Mato
Kasparov is sadic in this this game that may represent

Mato you tortured me with your comment ,i'll get you !
holy CRAP i made the same move as kasparov. are you serious Qc5
How we know you're not a liar
The moral of the story is:
"When in Bugojno, don't play Bogo-Indian"
Incredible..
Ha ha ha. Hvala na komentaru.
(5:35) "Torture". Haha interesting way to describe playing chess against Garry Kasparov.
The bishop on c8 never came into play and was completely dominated by the white bishop. I think it was necessary to play Rb8 at some point or black should have saced his b pawn to generate counterplay along the b file and to activate his LSB which would also connect the rooks.
Mato, i've only recently started watching your channel and i enjoy your overview and input; especially when you say "you may pause this video and try to find killer move."
however, i wanted to ask you: who is your favorite chess player of all time?
looks Petrossian resigned quite early, he could have attemped to resist further!
@djhavok101 But Kasparov had just one pawn more!
@d3sibeast After Ng4 there isn't a safe place to put the queen. If the queen travels up to g7 or h8, Rxd8+ is winning the queen and the game easily. If the queen travels downward instead it is also essentially hanging itself and giving up the game just as easily to white.

Never seen a grandmaster game where one side had so few options for moves that he was forced to waste moves like that ...
very good
3:20 why kasparov didn't take Nd5 wining a pawn ? Is there any tricks, or he wan't to improve his position ?
this proves mato is between 48 and 53 yrs atm.
How could Kasparov castle even after he was checked by black bishop from b4 on 3rd move & again on 5th move Kasparovs King was checked ?Can we still castle after being checked? Please enlighten me.

What program do you use for this?

+Andreas Hoppe If Kasparov was left-hande that explains why right handed people had problem playing against him
+Andreas Hoppe Why WAS ? Did he died ? Or did he become right-handed ? :D
+Luciano Raffaelli 😂😂😂
yes
3:59 whats wrong with Black knight taking white knight?
Wowwwwwwwww !!!
Some matches of Paul Morphy are welcome Mato :)
Matoo legendoooo
I am not sure why he resigned?? Stockfish shows that this game may go until only Pawns remain.
Hi Mato how 'bout some Wesley So matches :)
Kasparov moved queen to attack queen and he resigned. The move I would have chosen is white knight attacks black knight, because if this knight is removed, white has queen and rook attacking rook.
i wonder how Houdini would have escaped from such a position.
As a Russian, I love watching this because it's an example of the student surpassing the master. It's one Armenian Grandmaster replaces another Armenian Grandmaster and moving up. are more tal matches coming?
I can't call why black resigned... Seriously!
RulezAPower positionally black doesnt have any counter play. their is nothing black can do and if he continued to play he would experience a slow, painful death.
What about Rxd1 Qxe7 Rxc1 and black is better 2 rooks to a queen?
+Ben Hamilton If you did not stop counting after only 2 moves , you would notice that white will continue [24.Qc5 R:d1 25.Q:e7 R:c1 ] 26.Q:f7+ and mate in the next move.
I still don't understand what was so bad about queen takes queen in the final position.
i've laughed for 2 minutes when he started to say 'killing him slowly' and 'torturing petrosian' :))
