  • Follow up from my other video. Turned out to be a cracked block, not a blown head gasket. Symptoms are the same, but a cracked block is covered under a 10 year extended warranty. Thanks in advance for your likes and subscribes. They matter and are much appreciated!

    have a 2006 civic. backs in august 2018, and after only 43K miles on my car, the engine cracked. Honda did extend the warranty for 10 years from production date so my warranty expired in august 2016. since i was 2 years outside of the warranty, honda would not replace my engine for free. they wanted me to pay $4000 and they would pay "the rest" - stating it would be 7K plus. turned out it was $5500 so I still had to pay $4000 and Honda got off paying only $1500. Since getting my car back, the transmission is not shifting smoothly and the engine light came on. Honda wanted $190 to run diagnostics. I said eff that!! Honda makes me sick!! they knew about these faulty engines - they should pay regardless of years.

      An unlucky story. There will be some blocks that will fail after the warranty period. I'd get a good mechanic (not the dealership) to replace the engine for you. Just make sure its a model year 2010 or newer. My costs were only about 3500 bucks and I've had nothing but reliable performance since.

      My civic engine block cracked as well, I filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration , if they receive enough complaints they can force honda to recall the engines and fix it.

    I have an 08 SI which is supposed to be excluded from cracking... but nope.. cracked at around 150.. Honda needs to be held responsible for this shady bullshit

    • @DoctorFixMaster
      @DoctorFixMaster  Год назад +2

      Sorry to hear it. It's worth an inquiry to see if they have extended their warranties again, but 08 is a long time ago. They might be reluctant to pay to replace a 14 year old engine. That said, an overhauled engine from a non-problem year is much cheaper than a new or even used car nowadays, if you have a good mechanic that is up to the task.

    • @DoctorFixMaster
      @DoctorFixMaster  Год назад +2

      @@Th1zzardOfOz They extended their warranty to 10 years. When I posted this, I was still barely within the warranty period, so Honda paid to replace the engine. That said, the engine replace was a few thousand dollars. Even if it was out of warranty and I had to pay for it, I'd do it. It's way cheaper than a new (even used) car at today's prices.

    Expired warranty? Cracked block woes? Step 1: drain remaining coolant. step 2 :Scuff cracked area with scotchbrite, or emery cloth Step 3: CLEAN AREA with brake clean , or rubbing alcohol, whatever ya got.Step 4: Apply JB weld, Wait like 3 days if you can, then button it back up n top w/ coolant. Step 5: GET AAA.

      In case all previous methods fail. Basiclly peace of mind. My 07 hit 9x,xxx miles recently, always smells like coolant. No visible signs yet.

    I have an 08 Honda Civic with a code P0128, the thermostat needs to be replaced according to that code. I will check tomorrow morning and see if there’s any coolant mixed with the oil. As well as see if there’s any leaking of coolant anywhere else. Is there anything else I should keep my eyes open for, I’m really concerned that it could be a crack in the block…

    • @DoctorFixMaster
      @DoctorFixMaster  2 года назад +1

      I'm sorry to hear it. If there is a crack in the block, it should be pretty obvious when you check or change the oil. Really strange behavior of your temperature gauge too is a dead giveaway. Good luck!

    I have an '08 Civic LX coupe i bought about 4 months ago. Just hit 132,000 miles and mine is cracked. I never heard anything about this problem until it happened. I noticed a strong scent of anti-freeze and the car started to overheat. I'm going to attempt to see if Honda will do anything for me but with it being over a year past the 10 year deadline, i'm assuming they wont help. I've heard some people stating that JB Weld has worked well for them, so that will be my next attempt at trying to fix it. But even then, I'll be cautiously driving around and always worried how long that fix will last.

      Have you contacted Honda yet? What did they say?

    • @SickNaban
      @SickNaban 5 лет назад +2

      @@uaChuk yes, I went to the dealership and explained the situation. They asked for my vin #. After providing my vin # they tried to tell me that my specific car was never affected by the 10-048 TSB. I said that was impossible considering it is leaking from the exact place the TSB shows it will leak from if the problem does occur. The clerk (service writer) then told me she would have to speak to her boss and that they can't personally do anything for me until they contact Honda of America. They said they would do so and get back with me. About 1 to 1½ hours later, my local dealership contacted me saying Honda of America wouldn't cover any of the costs or help me in any way. Because my vehicle was outside of the Extended warranty period.
      I know, it doesn't make sense that they said it wasn't affected at all after running the vin # and then came back to say they wouldn't help because it was outside of the warranty period. Seems like they were just looking for any excuse as to not help me.
      Sinse then I have used JB Weld on the area and it seems to be holding up good so far. I've only driven it a few times since applying the jb weld.

    My car got hit got it back after they fixed it took back to Honda because the motor bracket that hooks to dog bone cracked Honda told me to bring car back they will get lady insurance that hit me to fix it. Well days go by months go and I go there after 4 months witch I took pics of my car setting there and they just threw a rag on top of my car encluding Honda just paid 2,700 to repaint the whole top of car from were it started crows feeling In the clear coat dude at Honda first told me they would take bracket off take pictures and have lady's insurance fix it. I had all this all recorded well Honda said torque broke bracket that it wasn't defaulty parts so refused to fix it so they tell me come to get car. Set down gets better I drive car there right well come get car there box in passenger side with all the parts just laying in it I walk to front counter was like came to get my car but I will not drive it with out them parts back on why didn't fall put them back on. The respond was the holes in the head that bracket is held on by r stripd ok let's rewind Honda head people refused to replace bracket and claim I did it by over reving to much torque broke it. Ok there is no way torque broke that bracket u can have 600 horse power that bracket isn't breaking just saying. The reason why it broke they strip out the holes in the head that hold the bracket and 2 bolts will be out of bracket because they strip the holes putting it on last time so bracket was getting in a bind and breaking and they try to leave me with a 4,700 dollars bill to get new head and labor to fix car. I had everything on recording so called tow truck got my car back home. Dude at Honda was trying to get I'll with me while I was recording saying after 4 months he could of taken owner ship of my cad. Then I said u told me to drive car to y'all and y'all get lady insurance to fix me car when it was driveable then I come get my car and yall leave it undrivable and tell me to come get it. All on recording plus other things went to another Honda shop and sold a car for them if they help me with my car and fix it and let there head man there hear my recording the recording the other Honda shop left me with a bill for 4,700 and this other Honda shop fixed it for 1,700 plus fixed that head and reuse it plus new timing chain and extra work and sent other honda shop the bill. But was wondering on the recall situation my car 09 Civic si so it in the recall bracket but the head before they fixed it was showing crows feet also with hair cracks also before they took it to machine shop. And there Transmissions r junk complained since day one of buying my car and they would never fix there problem of second gear grind and 3rd gear popping out witch at 103,000 miles 3rd gear syncro ring went out so won't go in 3rd gear no more. Honda won't fix it and they wanted 375 dollars for OEM 3rd gear syncronizer set for me to do the job my self I laughed and left. Got deal on another transmission that I got a week ago that I am putting in my car this weekend. I changed transmission fluid every 25,000 miles and Transmission syncronizer ring still gave out on it

    Is it true that by 2009 some engines were fixed ?

    • @DoctorFixMaster
      @DoctorFixMaster  Год назад +1

      I believe that is true, yes. They found and fixed the problem. By 2010, the root cause was fixed. You'd have to contact Honda to find out what date codes in 2009 were affected. I'm not exactly sure.

    • @DoctorFixMaster
      @DoctorFixMaster  6 лет назад +1

      It's not going to happen to all the blocks from those years, but it was enough to issue the technical service bulletin and extend the warranty out to 10 years. I have heard of some people having the problem after ten years, but I don't think that is very common. I'd say just enjoy your functioning car and watch for the telltale signs. And watch your oil and coolant levels carefully. If your car is 12 years old and it hasn't shown up yet, I bet it never does.
