      Yes, I was yelling too :) Because of the 4,9 pair in box 8 and the 4,9 pair in box 2 the box5 c4 pair must be 4,9 ; nothing at this stage indicated that cell 4.4 has to be a 4.
      Also, cell 4.5 must be an 8 ; leaving only 4,9 pair. Otherwise a great tutorial ! Thanks Robin.

    Perhaps you could try pushing us a little harder. I'm not sure "Intermediate level" is really an appropriate description here, as this puzzle is very easy without notation. It's obviously an asymmetrical cut-down from a symmetrical puzzle with 34 givens. Oddly, the two cells with removed givens can easily be solved first, making the removal somewhat pointless (93 = row 9 column 3):
    93, 98 (symmetry restored),
    89, 88, 96, 19, 66,
    51, 72, 95, 97, 33,
    41, 55, 22, 15, 14,
    65, 59, 77, 38, 99,
    78, 29, 28, 67, 47,
    64, 75, 74, 44, 25,
    46, 45, 36, 35, 21,
    82, 85, 91, 81, 13,
    11, 32, 63, 43, 61,
    49, 69.

      @bluerizlagirl 2 года назад +1

      I thought it was a good exercise in applying an important rule that is necessary for advanced Sudoku techniques.
      In this puzzle, it matters that a digit locked into one box within of a row or column can't go in the other two thirds of that box.
      Now that follows from a more general rule, which states that if a digit is forced into one of a few cells, then any cell that sees *all* those candidate cells *cannot* contain that digit. That forms the basis of every advanced Sudoku technique -- X-wings, swordfish, Y-wings, skyscrapers and so forth.
      It's important to keep practising applying that rule until it becomes second nature, because there's no way to master advanced Sudoku without it.

    • @AnonimityAssured
      @AnonimityAssured 2 года назад +2

      @@bluerizlagirl I see what you're saying, but before moving on to advanced techniques, it's a good idea to base as much of one's solving as possible on the simplest techniques available. A very good exercise, perhaps best suited to Easy or Medium Sudoku grids, is to try to identify all cells that can be filled in right from the start just by following the numbers. Here's my list for this grid, in no particular order:
      R2C2 (follow 1s),
      R1C9 (follow 6s),
      R3C5 (follow 5s),
      R9C6 (follow 1s),
      R3C3 (follow 7s),
      R8C9 (follow 7s),
      R9C3 (follow 2s),
      R9C8 (follow 5s),
      R7C2 (follow 6s).
      These are only first-level deductions, based on the numbers already present. I'm not saying that the list is complete, but I think it's a healthy start.
      A more difficult exercise, not for the faint-hearted, is to try to solve as much of a grid as possible without filling in any cells. For an Easy or Medium puzzle, that's not as hard as it may sound. With a bit of practice, you'll soon find you can solve twenty or more cells mentally. Believe me, you don't have to be a "Rain Man" to do it. It's just a matter of storing information. Whatever sort of memory you have, you need to tailor the exercise to suit it best. Some people are better at remembering rows or columns, whereas others may be better at remembering boxes or even just individual cells. I find that I can store the contents of boxes best. I have a very poor visual memory, but I seem to have a fairly good conceptual and positional memory, which partly makes up for the shortcoming. Boxes keep things local, which is good for positional memory. Before you dismiss this as a hopeless task, please give it a try. Naturally, you'll have to reinforce the memories with a certain amount of retracing your steps, but you'll find that it becomes easier and easier. This particular grid is well suited to such an exercise, as it can be solved entirely in one's head.

    • @SudokuGuy
      @SudokuGuy  2 года назад +2

      @@bluerizlagirl absolutely correct. memory is a skill needed when solving particularly if you do not wish to add little numbers. the time may caome when you may have to put little numbers in. Look at Tutorial 91 part 2

      There can only be two possible 1’s in the 3x3 below where the 1 will be forced. No matter where the 1 is, it will eliminate all other possible 1’s in that row, which gives only one spot in the top left 3x3 to be a 1

      That was an error. He got confused. He got the right answer because row 2, column 1 had to be an 8 (because row 1 and row 3 both had 8 already), and R2C1 is 8, then R1C1 had to be 3, then R1C3 had to be 9. So he got the right answer but used flawed logic.
