I find this technique very useful when solving puzzle found in the newspaper. It should be part of your introductory video. I first learned sudoku using the iPhone app where all the possible candidates are shown.
I am new to your channel. I like your tutorials a lot. They are extremely well organized. Great job.
How come you don’t deliver your tutorials wearing a suit like this guy? 😊

The first video you are referencing is demonstrating the "Naked Triple" puzzle-solving technique. In this video, dxSudoku #63, I showed you two ways of solving the same puzzle. The first way is using Snyder notation. The second way is using a modern software approached that is not based on traditional paper and pencil methods. My #63 video is probably more about a demonstration of why you should not do Snyder notation than it is about teaching you how to use Snyder notation. Since I now never solve puzzles using Snyder notation anymore, my channel is promoting the modern software approach because it's a much more enjoyable experience. If you are interested in using the modern approach to solving Sudoku this video is my non-Snyder-notation beginners guide:

Now I've had this discussion with many people. And many people have tried to convince me Snyder notation is way to solve a Sudoku puzzle. The thing is I've solved puzzle's for years using Snyder notation. And I solved puzzles for about three years now without using Snyder notation. Not using Snyder is a vastly superior way for solving puzzles. I've done in both ways. But the people who are telling me I am nuts for not using Snyder notation have only done it one way. So I don't think they really understand my point-of-view.
P.S. Thanks for the complement on the channel.

It is interesting to observe the different RUclips channels Sudoku solving techniques. Cracking the Cryptic uses Snyder on their classic Sudoku puzzles. Harold Nolte uses no notations at all and you use computer fill in of all possible candidates. If you are using a computer your method seems like an interesting way to go. If you are using pencil and paper it looks like Snyder would be the way to start the puzzle. The Nolte method requires some memory challenges that seem to work well with easy to moderate puzzles but becomes very difficult for most of us on the more difficult tests . Thank you very much for this video.

Thank you for the thoughtful commentary. For years I did paper and pencil and Snyder notation. And when I started getting involved using Hodoku I struggled with it. But eventually it won me over. I have utmost respect for Bernard Hobiger who created Hodoku. His way of thinking about Sudoku has completely changed me. It's an interested debate over which way is the best way. But as I said in the video, the satisfaction experience is the same regardless of the puzzle-solving strategy. Otherwise, we would all not be so addicted to this madness! In the user guides I did for Andoku 3 (Android phone) and Sudoku Joy (iPhone) both programs have a camera scanning feature. So you can take your favorite paper-and-pencil puzzle, scan it in, and use the compute candidates feature and cell coloring feature and match exactly what I did in the video with Hodoku. Thank you again for your comments. I also like hearing your thoughts!

May I ask what Sudoku program you are using here?

I use combination of three programs. I start with Hodoku and it's cell and candidate coloring features. I then use Microsoft PowerPoint to create slides with backgrounds and graphics. And then I use Camtasia for creating the video. Camtasia also has a set of graphic overlays and animations I use to make it easier to see conceptually what I am trying to convey.

I was thinking of wearing a clown outfit....not really. But I figure people are too busy to spend time looking at me do theater. This is why I concentrate just on the Sudoku content. One of the aspects about Sudoku I find fascinating is just from a few simple rules and a grid of numbers there is just so much to talk about. I think Sudoku is a great model for understanding systems knowledge in general. There is just so much to talk about I just stick to the topic.

I wish. Unfortunately, my throat has a bit of old man disease at times. After 40 or so videos I thought it was improving. Hopefully, the quality of the content will make it worth enduring.
