Asking for a friend - Do you recommend high schoolers to start shadowing a general dentist in high school or to wait to start shadowing until in college?
It’s good to shadow for a few days in high school to confirm that you for sure want to pursue dentistry. It could also be helpful if you think they might let you work at the office one day if you start shadowing early on.
Great video!!! Helped me learn a lot more about perusing a dental career. In addition, I'm currently a Sophomore choosing my science class for Junior year, would you recommend me to take Anatomy or AP Physics as I would be taking AP Bio, my senior year? Thank You!!
I want to major in biochemistry to get into dental school, and eventually own my own practice. Do you think it might be a good idea for me to major in business or something similar? This video was super helpful as I’m a first-generation high school student and learning everything about college from scratch!!
I think biochemistry is a great major choice. You could minor in something related to business but you dont need to. You will learn about practice management through involvement in dental school and through your first jobs as a dentist. Good luck!
I am going to be a junior this year and i am debating whether i should take my school’s dual enrollment dental science course as a junior or senior. What would you recommend? I just don’t want it to be so hard on me since i’m a junior so will it be better taking the class as a senior or junior?
thank you for saying that highschool shadowing hours do not count because i was confused about that lol, i have 15 shadowing hours and i'm a senior in highschool
It’s still an awesome experience that I also did, but during high school I would focus on quality over quantity! See as many different offices as you can and get a feel for different types of dentistry rather than going to the same office for 50+ hours like you’ll do during undergrad :)
Hi !!! i love your videos and i am an international student from Dubai and i am currently in a british curriculum school in year 12 , i just came across the pre dental courses and i am tad bit confused about how that course works , can we directly apply to a pre dental course after high school or is there any other way ???
If you want to dental school in the US, you would need to complete a bachelors degree in undergrad (after high school) including the pre-requisite courses and take the DAT to apply to dental school. That is usually 4 years and then dental school is 4 more years!
@@HaleySchultz Thank youu, and last question the undergrad bachelors degree can be in anything I am interested in as well as the pre dental course on the side is that correct!?
I'm a junior in highschool, my school only offers one dual enrollment class of "African American History". Should I take it? Or will it be a waste of time since it's not really a science class?
Typically it takes people 4 years to earn their bachelors degree (undergrad). And then if you do not do a gap year and start dental school right away that is 4 more years!

Whatever you think you can handle! Dual enrollment in general will be a great option.

Do you think a nutrition major would have dental school prerequisites?
My dental school roommate majored in Nutrition at MSU. She had to do some extra classes but some were included!

It’s up to you! That’s one less class you’d need to take at a university during undergrad. Plus, it would be a really cool class!
Lovanas oh bb African American history is never a waste of time 🤣🤣
@@brianadixon3786 thanks for letting me know
