- Australian businesses are facing even longer delays of goods from Europe as the war between Israel and Hamas affects a major cargo shipping route.
A voyage through the Red Sea would normally take two days, but under siege by Houthi rebels, it can now take up to ten days.
Cargo ships between Asia and Europe are being rerouted with Houthi rebels making the area Rea Sea a no-go zone amid the conflict in Gaza.
Vessels are now forced to bypass the Red Sea to avoid the militant group and instead make the long journey around the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.
Adding thousands of kilometres and causing heavy congestion at the Port of Singapore, the major freight hub between Asia and Australia.

The time of the unarmed merchant ship is over. Ships sailing dangerous waters should have security teams. Disruption of global trade is not acceptable. Insurance companies need to insist. Ships have safety equipment. It's accepted as a cost of doing business. The same should go for anti-piracy equipment. Also, this is why we have navies. The US Navy was created to deal with the Barbary pirates. We are already paying for this protection bud we are not getting pay for. We need small, fast, economical warships. Frigates, corvettes, patrol craft. Also, helicopters and drones. This is the reality. Pretending it's not happening is not an option.

Listening to a Maritime expert on YT he said that there isn't a huge price increase having to sale around cape Good Hope, as the ship owner don't have to pay for passage to get through the canal in the red sea, he stated its more of the extra time it takes.
Diesel costs money, it's triple the cost in diesel alone.
