thank you so much for your help! because of this video, i was able to successfully put a new battery in my macbook pro :) a few tips for anyone following this tutorial who also doesn't have any experience or knowledge in this area:
    1. the cover on the old battery is most likely going to rip when you try to remove it. the adhesive is super strong, and no matter what you use to push under and pry it apart, the battery seems to rip open. it's going to smell as soon as you do, and it's most likely going to spark a bit at some point. it freaked me out a bit, so i'm warning everyone else.
    2. removing the bottom cover from the macbook requires more force than you think. those clips really hold it on. try to go around the edge with something flat to pull it up. and it's kinda fussy to put back on too, so try to get it into the clips and press on all around the bottom.
    3. make sure those little connectors with the gold on them are fully inserted into the new battery. mine weren't pushed all the way in, so i had to go in and redo them when i saw the new battery wasn't charging.
    4. make sure to do the PRAM and/or SMC reset. my computer didn't stop giving me the "service battery" message until i did it. that seems to be the way to make sure the computer recognizes that there's new hardware.
thanks again for this video! i couldn't have completed the process without it.

This instructional video is superb. It walks through all of the details of the battery replacement. Binh, I have one suggestion which will save you quite a bit of work -- instead of using rubbing alcohol to remove the adhesive, use naphtha. You can get it from the hardware store in the paint section (VM&P Naphtha) or use "white gas" or Ronsonol Lighter Fluid, which are also naphtha. Dampen a paper towel with it, hold it on the adhesive residue for a few seconds before any scraping, and within a few minutes the foam tape residue will get super soft and just peel off. If you apply the dampened paper towel a couple times and just wait for the naphtha to do its job, you don't have to do any scraping, and it leaves no sticky residue. And it is quite gentle on other surfaces, unlike acetone and many other solvents. Thanks again, and I hope this tip returns the favor!

    • @ItsBinhRepaired
      @ItsBinhRepaired  2 года назад

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about is it'll damage other components like the plastics. The alcohol works the same way if soaked a while it comes out easily, but I'm impatient. Haha

@@ItsBinhRepaired I believe that Naphtha is safe for most plastics. The first time I saw it used for cleaning was someone removing price tags from textbooks -- it didn't harm the shiny book covers at all! I've used it on countless surfaces without any issues. And since it doesn't contain any water and dries clean, it works really well. Give it a try! It will save you a lot of time and effort.

Hi, so I’ve followed the video and replaced my battery, however although it shows the screen where it say it needs charging, when I plug it in and turn it on, it doesn’t seem to show a battery up in the top left menu. Is this due to the flex cable or is it because I haven’t done the resets?

Why skip it? It's so easy to do and takes no time at all. It resets things Apple stores in the memory so it doesn't get confused by the hardware changes. Always good do it when making any hardware changes. For specifics of what it does, you'll want to Google it.

Just did the whole process. Everything went fine.
A couple things that scared me but ended up being just fine.
First time I boot it up, the battery icon in the upper right part of the screen showed the "plug connected" icon and 1% battery. I rebooted doing cmd+option+P+R and it showed a 70% battery but "battery not charging". Left it some minutes and started to show "battery charging 72% 4 hours 30 minutes to full charged". Few minutes later it showed 85% charged and 27 mins to fully charged, which I assume is the correct information. Seems that it takes a while to "recalibrate" the whole battery thing.
Also first time that I booted it it took longer than normally, which again I assume is normal (but is scaring af...)
Also, as an advice, the most tricky part for me was placing the battery correctly. If you don't place the center part just right it might affect the trackpad assembling. I was lucky by a tenth of a milimeter... I think is useful to practice with the stickers protected and once you know where to the battery has to be exactly, remove the sticker protection and go for it.
Here you have a couple amazon links of what I bought to do this (it is Spain's amazon but I'm sure you can find in your local amazon:
Battery replacement (the screwdrivers that come with this started to be worn out at the end, be gentle or they just go round): www.amazon.es/Bater%C3%ADa-Repuesto-portátil-Compatible-Notebook/dp/B085LB4LCC/ref=sr_1_5?__mk_es_ES=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&dchild=1&keywords=bateria+macbook+pro+2017+13-inch&qid=1618422332&sr=8-5

Other than that, thanks a lot, the repairing cost of this in an authorized service shop in Spain would be 300€. I just spend 60€ so the least I could do is gave you a small tip on Patreon as I just did.

Seems not everything went fine... left the computer in sleep mode with the charger connected as I do every night and when I wake up this morning the battery was at 0%. Somewhere at 2:00 am started to drain and at 7:00 am was at 0%, here is the chart from battery preferences: www.dropbox.com/s/2guu3kee0rph1bv/Battery.png?dl=0

Check the battery connections. Most likely not connected properly/misaligned.
