Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on RUclips, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on RUclips. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on RUclips, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

Well, well. Now that you've got into Peter, Paul & Mary territory, you just have to do their song called Puff The Magic Dragon, written by Peter Yarrow(the Peter of the group name)...and no ahead of time, it's not about drugs, it's about the innocence and adventure of childhood and the wistful end of childhood. Beautiful song.

Peter was getting married, Paul wrote the song for the wedding, intending it for them alone. Paul said the song is only attributed to him, because the lyrics were divinely inspired. He originally wrote it as inspired, with Jesus speaking in first person ("Whenever two or more of you are gathered in MY name") but when he sang it at Peter’s wedding, he changed the pronoun “I” to “He” to avoid misunderstanding about who was the troubadour and Who was “among you.”. For the longest time it was played at pretty much every wedding I attended.

As kids we hijacked my mom's copy of PP&M's "10 Year Togeth" album and played it to death. Loved every song on that album, but I think "Early Morning Rain" was my favorite. PP&M version of "Blowing in the Wind" is the definitive version imo, although Bee Gees covered it when they were quite young and that's a fun version just to see their talent even that young.

Although most young reactors think that John Denver and Mama Cass' version is iconic version it is actually Peter Paul and Mary that did the original. Shawn, if an old guy can throw out a bit of background. One of the many ways the Beatles changed popular music was that they wrote their own music. For the most part...before them in the early 60s almost all pop music was written by songwriters who sold the music to performers. (Even today, the songwriter is the one who gets royalties, regardless of who performs.) For example, Carole King wrote a whole bunch of hit songs from the late 50s to late 60s & never recorded them herself....until finally deciding to try it on her own around 1970...and had the biggest selling album of 71 or 72, "Tapestry". David Bowie began intending to be only a songwriter, but had trouble selling his songs...so decided to start singing them himself.

Love this trio. They were an American folk group formed in 1961. They had a lot of great hits such as "Puff, The Magic Dragon", "Lemon Tree", "500 Miles", "If I Had A Hammer", "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", "Day Is Done". They recorded quite a few of Bob Dylan's songs such as "Blowin' In The Wind", "The Times They Are a-Changin'", "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right", "When The Ship Comes In" etc.

The Beach Boys, Beatles, and Simon & Garfunkel, of course, but also Peter Paul & Mary, The Kingston Trio, The Seekers, The Mamas & the Papas, The Hollies, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, even bands like The Who... it was a time of amazing vocal music. Another big PP&M song is "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?"

Peter Stookey was called by his first name Noel until the group formed in 1961 and he started using his middle name as his stage name, because face it, Peter, Noel, and Mary doesn't work as well. The group broke up in 1970 and reunited in 1978, stayed together until 2009 when Mary died of complications from leukemia treatment. Peter and Paul are still with us and remain lifetime friends. They still occasionally perform together in concert. You can check their websites for performance dates.

PP&M are overlooked today...and that is a tragedy. Their records are great and filled with many wonderfully intelligent and tuneful songs. Back in the day, even the Beatles were fans! But don't take my word for it...listen to some of their albums. You can start with their first - Peter, Paul & Mary with songs like "If I Had My Way", "If I Had a Hammer" (by the great Pete Seeger), "Where Have All the Flowers Gone", "Lemon Tree", and so forth. And there is a great Peter Yarrow Vietnam protest song on their Album 1700 called "The Great Mandella (the Wheel of Life). That entire album is a gem! There are so many great songs on their many albums that it's hard to list them.

When my sister and I were kids in the 60’s, our dad surprised us with guitars for each of us. When we learned some basic chords, we went on to learn a bunch of Peter, Paul and Mary tunes, which we played and learned to sing with the harmonies. A few years later, we got to see them in concert. Dad and Joanne are gone now, but great memories!

We probably had every album and record they ever done, so I'm very familiar with them. Many of the folk / country / easy listening music writers of the time shared their works such as Arlo Guthrie, Woody Guthrie, Pete Segar, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, and so many more.

You did read that Mary did a lot of covers of John Denver songs over the years in single songs! My favorite of Mary/John matchup is "For Baby (For Bobbie)!" Now for PPM, "If I Had a Hammer," "500 Miles," "Puff The Magic Dragon," and Paul wrote "The Wedding Song" which is fantastic! You can't be wrong with PPM!

For much of their earlier recorded music, Mary sings center, Peter sings right, and Noel/Paul sings left. REQUEST: I Dig Rock and Roll Music. They name-drop and imitate some of the big names in mid-decade pop music.
