They sang against ALL social injustice and for peace love and understanding, they were never about personal gain but about using music to transcend all divides/injustices right up until Mary passed Sept 16th 2009. It was actually written in the 1950's but was given new life during the protest years of the 1960's when several people and groups performed it. This particular video of their performing the song was a great suggestion and I have not seen this video before. Many of us were in the peace movement in those days and I did see Peter, Paul and Mary in concert. They were such beautiful folksingers. Mary Travers had a clear and resonant voice. Two other outstanding folksingers with beautul voices in the peace movement were Joan Baez and Buffy Sainte-Marie.
