@@RetroRepairs right I found a copy of Eye of the Beholder Sega CD for a review of hex coding and yah those prices are reaching, I wanted a copy of Dragon's Lair because I rented the entire console and game as a teenager and was hooked on getting past the flying horse scene. I laughed too much and would always run into the wall like The Family Guys portrayal of the game. nostalgic to say the least. Oh by the way steady soldering skills awesome fine trace rework on those game carts.
I found simple lid fixes for both models in my Jan vid. :) The Model 1 fix required a simple screw. I was ready to fire up one of the 3D printers for the model 2 until I found a better solution that anyone could do.
Looks like you didn't put the clear plastic piece that sits underneath the psu back properly. It's supposed to be slot in underneath the surrounding metal tabs that's molded as part of the top metal shielding.
I wouldn't say it's a stupid design, so much as an impractical design, though yeah, it would have been better if they had installed fram rather than sdram in the system so that it could maintain the save without external power, but at the time fram was about 10x more expensive than sdram, so it was a cost savings measure.
I would really be disappointed if you swapped the bottom cases. So fa I remember the serial number is on the bottom case, if you swapped it, you replace the serial number with the false ones....
Thanks for keeping these aging vintage tech alive and working, only thing now we have to worry about is disc rot namely for Sega CD.
Yeah, and it's crazy how expensive sega cd is getting too. It'll be a sad day.

Call me crazy but I like the overall look of the inside guts for the non-working one (left). It seems easier to handle, clean, and fix.
techeadache I'm working on that one now, there's a couple extra parts which you have to be careful around as they're fairly delicate.

Just fyi, that battery was probably replaced a couple times by the original owner, they only last about a year.
matilija yeah, it's a stupid design, you lose your save data when that happens too.

I hope you don't throw the other Saturn away just because the case is bad.
