  • The Peace Prize for 2023 was awarded to Narges Mohammadi for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and for human rights and freedom for all. Globally, while the women's struggle has made significant progress in many democracies, recent years have witnessed a substantial mobilization of movements supporting anti-feminist ideas.
This polarization has also had political consequences in European, American, and South American countries. Recently, Javier Milei won the election in Argentina, often referred to as "Latin America's Trump," known for highly conservative views regarding women's and LGBTQ+ rights. In Southern and Eastern Europe, the Catholic Church, along with extreme right-populist and national-conservative movements, has mobilized against gender equality. In the United States, abortion is now prohibited in over a quarter of the country's states.
This trend is not only evident in politics. The self-proclaimed "king of toxic masculinity," Andrew Tate, has become one of the world's biggest influencers, and various studies indicate that online misogyny is a growing problem.
While it has long been a widespread belief that older men are less open to gender equality than younger men, a new EU study suggests that it is particularly young men who perceive increasing gender equality as a threat.
Some connect these trends to a broader conservative counter-revolution in culture. In this panel discussion, we will talk about the commonalities behind these reactionary tendencies and who or what is driving them. We will also touch on the recent grim statistic of women being killed by their male partners in Norway.
    PANEL
    - Filmmaker and activist, Deeyah Khan. We will show a few short clips from her latest film Behind the Rage: America’s Domestic Violence.

Moderator for the discussion is philosopher and social scientist, Henrik Syse
